I called to see if they have in stocked 2 cycle MERCURY OPTIMAX oil and they said "Yes we have plenty". I went in person to purchase the oil versus ordering it on line, that would take days to deliver. I need the oil NOW to go fishing the next morning. Do not bring your boat here unless you want to get scammed. Brought them my boat because I was too lazy to do the tune up myself. Needed a carb rebuild. They ran a "diagnostic " and all of a sudden, "the cylinder 5 is low compression ".. boat ran perfect with the exception of a broken spark plug and a clogged carb. Got the boat home and checked all cylinders and they were all within the same compression. Engine rebuilt 5 years ago and mainly sat. 3 years before they did a full checkup (old owners) and compression was good and even amongst all cylinders. They even said the engine would have to come out to do a head job. Friend asked for a good oem starter on his boat and paid for it, they sneak in the junk one. Too bad the old owners are gone. I took my Pontoon boat to Dick Sheerer Marine in March 2025, as this was highly recommended by friends and family who would only take their boats to this company..... Before we took the boat to Dick Sheerer we called and spoke with Rafael and explained in detail, the Pontoon was located in Big Bear for the last 10 years and the boat just sat in my friend's driveway. We know nothing about boats and are very green to what the boat needed or what was required to maintain a boat. We asked for the boat to be checked out and to see if this was even worth our time and money. (Service engine, reupholster, carpet, replace Biminis, etc). Delivered the boat to Dicks and received a quote, and was told the engine appeared almost new, very clean. We agreed with the quote and approved for the work to begin. Prior to the boat being completed, I called and spoke with Carlos and asked what we needed to do to maintain the boat, as I never wanted to pay $4,000 again. Carols stated I needed to have the boat serviced yearly (roughly $400-$600) and every 2 years we needed to have a little more service which included replacing the water pump (roughly $1,500). I made clear communication I'm not taking the boat out in the water anytime soon, as upholster was next on the list. Finally in August the pontoon boat was completed. The original owner of the Pontoon boat lives in Big Bear and wanted to take the boat back to the lake to have a little fun, and also receive some lessons regarding the boat. The boat had all the maintenance it needed, including rebuilding the 4 carburetors. The weekend of Oct 4, I started the boat and something didn't sound right, I ran the motor for approx 8-10 mins, turned it off and said the boat needed to take back to Dick's to have the boat looked at. Monday 10/6 the boat was back at Dicks, then on 10/14 picked up the boat and was charge $858.37 to CLEAN the 3rd carburetor. Dicks Sheerer stated I had bad gas in the system. I didn't put bad gas in the boat nor did I run it longer than 10 minutes. The boat has yet to leave the DRIVEWAY. They accused me of putting bad gas in the boat and /or running the boat. This company doesn't honor their work or even back it up. Using this company you will end up flushing your money down the drain. I should not of been charged to clean a carburetor they just rebuilt, the boat has never been used. They were never a 5 star service facility, but they always took care of customers and honored their work. I never had any bad experiences with them. New owner and customer service and quality are out the window. Just picked up my boat after 3 consecutive days of them bugging me to come get it. Right off the bat they are charging me more than they actually quoted me. It wasn't an estimate it was a quote. They said they had forgotten to charge me for something when they gave me the quote. They would not honor their pricing. After a little back and forth with Rafa, I figured I would let this one pass. They brought the boat out, Bimini was not secured like when I left the boat. Went into the boat and saw the mess of tie strap bits, a cut hose and lot of oil on my Gatorstep. They agreed to clean it and couldn't get it 100% clean. Seats had grease stains that would not come out and a portion of the seat was actually damaged. Now I'm looking it over with a fine tooth comb and realized there is a scratch on the front corner of the boat with the fiberglass shreds still there. All Rafa could say is "if you want we'll buffet out". After I told him to forget it, he said "don't come back". I had to laugh at him, as if anyone in their right mind would. HORRIBLE WORK AND CUSTOMER SERVICE!! Rafa has no idea how to run a business. It's a shame he's going to run it into the ground. Go at your own risk, you've been warned. read more

Took my boat in for a trim leak and a hard start. After some back and forth with two different guys who claimed to be the owners, one quoted me $1,800, out the door for all repairs. When I called to pick it up the told me the final cost would be $3,000! According to one of the guys, the forgot to charge me for a sea trial which was about $500, among another repairs that I never knew about or approved. They literally ripped me off! I needed the boat back so I did not argue and just paid them. When I picked up the boat it was stained everywhere with oil and grease. It took me two days to try to clean and remove all the grease stains. Do not take your boat there! read more

Absolutely amazing job. went in for the normal annual maintenance. i Forgot I had a couple more issues. I didn't tell them. so I gave raffa a call back and told him the horn wasn't working. The gauges weren't working and wanted them replaced. they had it all done in no time. they were very kind pleasant to deal with. I would definitely recommend them. I'll keep this short as possible. I've done business with this marine shop on three occasions. The total I've spent for boat repairs is around $4k. The owner Sheldon was rather friendly at first but after paying and bringing the boat back for repairs on items they should've corrected he became annoyed and very rude. I ended up picking the boat back up after two weeks with a quote from him for over $10k. I declined. I went another route and corrected the issues for under $500. On another occasion I went back to get a part, the lady at the rest stated they did not have it in stock. I asked for the part number and she declined saying they don't give out part numbers. I expressed to her how much money I've spent at her business and she ended up writing it down. It ended up being the wrong part number. Long story short I would not recommend this boat repair shop at all. Scott the mechanic seems like a nice guy but overall the company seems shady. I went to another shop in Orange County and received exceptional service for a way lower price. I will not do business with Dick Sherrer marine again nor would I recommend them to anyone. read more

Dick Sherrer Marine has and can get any part for inboards, outboard, and outdrives pretty quick- thats the good. The bad is that they are eeeexpensive!!!!! I mean, this place will make you touch your toes and you will say ouch! The ugly is that if you take your boat for repair, they will keep it for months before they are done with it. They diagnosed my blown head gasket! Requested they completely rebuild my engine so it would work for another 20 years! Head gasket blew after less than 40 hrs. because they failed to properly re-torque the head after breakin time! Head gasket blew (all 4 cylinder)! Was told it was my fault head blew! Told to take it to another marine engine shop to have them diagnose the reason it blew because Dick Sheer did not want to take responsibility. Took it to Independent Engine and they found the head was so bad it should have been replaced when engine was rebuilt! Still Dick Sherrer refused to take responsibility! But, they did offer to replace head gasket for ANOTHER $4000! Very poor mechanical personal and do NOT stand behind their work!!! read more

Horrible experience with this shop. We have brought our boat on about 3 occasions and have spent over 6 thousand dollars with repairs. This last time was the worst off all. We had the boat back with engine service including lower, filter an oil change. We ran the boat on an average fishing trip about 8 hours and noticed oil coming out from the bottom lower for the engine. After having the boat at the shop to see what was wrong the shop said their was too much oil and had to remove about a quart of oil. It wasn't my mistake but the charged us 130 after I was noticeably upset and a shop fee was dropped. Why am I the customer paying for a mistake the shop made???? I didn't overfill the oil the shop did. Ridiculous and just sad to see this happened. I will never use or recommend this shop ever to anyone. read more

Very fair and knowledgeable. It also helped that I wasn't in a rush to get my boat back for repairs as I was able to kind of use them for free storage for a few months. :) They fixed my head gaskets, did a valve job and rebuild my corroborator. Boat now runs great thanks to them! Price was good. I was worried at first due to my inexperience with boats and engine issues that we might not be on the same page. Wow. I just called this place, as it is listed with SuzukiMarine.com as one of their warranty repair locations. I am trying to get help with my brand new motor, which after mounting, gassing, new battery, etc., doesn't start. I got cut off by the person who answered who asked why I don't call the place where I ordered the motor. I replied that I got it online since I didn't even know this place existed until I had to search for a repair place. She rudely suggested that I should take it to the online source. Everybody else I have called has been at least polite, most being helpful enough to point me at a nearby repair place, which unfortunately doesn't have any openings until September. I wouldn't buy a motor from this place now if it was 50% off. I would have been happy to pay for some advice, or to cover the time they would have spent on what is hopefully a simple fix. Well, I have been coming here for boating items and service for since the mid 80's. They don't try to sell you stuff you don't need like other places. They are honest people here. They work with you and if they don't place the part, they be more then happy to find it for you somewhere else( but I usually order there and wait a day or two). You will not find a more honest service department either. They are up front about saving you money using after market part that perform just as well as OEM parts but cost half the price. I went there took my boat for a simple water pump issue estimate was 250 + labor that soon turn into $4,900 they wanted to charge me for various things that didn't need to be done. told him that I just want the pump on there so I can get it on the water they said okay call me back and said $2,900. I told them never mind I'll pick up the boat on the weekend. Well they returned the boat to me dirty, parts removed and not put back and charged me 145.00 for doing absolutely nothing !!!!!!
