I was very impressed with this store. It reminded me of the old Marshall Fields in Chicago where the store was very elegant and the sales people were very courteous and friendly. My items were actually folded and put in boxes with tissue paper !! Normally, I'm just handed a bag with my purchases, tissue paper, and folded up boxes for me to assemble myself. Also, i have to ask for a box, I'm not automatically given one. The quality of the merchandise is excellent and priced reasonably with great sales. I had an outstanding customer service situation in the ladies' shoe department. I returned a pair of Eileen Fisher sandals which had been worn a couple of times and had broken down on the side and the heel was coming off. Clearly the shoes had only been worn a few times due to the rest of the appearance. However, I had no receipt or box. They figured out in the system how to return the value without making me feel like an annoyance or someone trying to pull something over on them. This is why I love supporting stores such as Von Maur who truly value their customers. You won't find that experience online!! read more

Basically walking into Von Maur is walking into a time warp. Or the twilight zone. Suddenly everything moves slowly and all the clothes and accessories and brands are from trends past. The employees look oddly glassy eyed and out of it. And they are not helpful, but I probably wouldn't be if the entire sweater section of a store I worked at was ugly Christmas sweaters on purpose. But I could maybe forgive all this and chalk it up to the fact that different people like different stores if they did not force the female employees to wear skirts or dresses. They are not allowed to wear pants. And with those skirts and dresses they can not wear boots. Only heels or flats... Maybe because boots cover up too much leg? How on earth in this century is that ok?! I mean I guess we should be thankful they allow the women to work since our place really is just in the kitchen...But dictating how we dress and dictating we dress like "ladies". That straight up grosses me out. I can't shop there based on that alone. Women have come to far to spend our hard earned money at places that are sexist and think we are less than. I guess since it's a "family owned company" anything goes, but I wouldn't want to have any part contributing to a family like that. read more

The customer service here was great on my visit with my son. I took my son to Von Maur because he needed a new navy blue blazer. They fitted him and provided alterations at no additional charge. Also, they had a Thomas the Tank engine train set up in the children's area which helps keep the little ones happy. Many items were pretty high priced, but we also were able to find several options at more reasonable prices. I found a terrific jacket here that I wore out and wish I had purchased two more of so I could still wear it because it was so unique looking and reasonably priced. The shoe department stocks a good variety of options. The no interest credit card is useful in a pinch, though I prefer to use cash. I HATE shopping, but I don't mind going to Von Maur when I need something because I know I will be well taken care of. read more

Von Maur is pretty nice, but it is soooo expensive! All the fashionable stuff is over 100$. Even though it's better than those snotty designer stores. I do like the Free Gift Wrapping, though. I'd say that I stop to see the deals at this store half the time I go to Yorktown, but sometimes I can't afford to spend all that money. read more

My partner and I love Von Maur. The customer service is absolutely wonderful. He is not a shopper, but he eagerly goes to the Yorktown store, because he knows that he will find quality merchandise and excellent help should he need it. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, but not overly pushy. Von Maur will wrap and mail anything - even sale items - free of charge. We have family out of state, and this is something we definitely use. No other store that I know of has that service. We have even had salespeople send us thank you notes and call us to see if we received the help we needed. We like to take our time to find what we want, stopping to listen to the piano player as we shop. It's a beautiful store, and going there is a real pleasure. read more

I wanted to find . . .then send . . . a special gift to a very dear friend out in California. After calling a 800 number, I was connected to the Lombard store and one of the most pleasant and helpful sales associate that I ever dealt with. Her name is 'Chris ' and I want her superiors to know what an asset she is to this company'! (No! I'm not related. LOL Never met her.) She made my experience one of the best ever. Free wrapping and shipping was just more icing on the cake. On top of that, the one that received the gift was thoroughly surprised and happy with the choices I made - with Chris' help. Thank you. Love this store. They have a wide variety of clothing for different price points and ages. I love their sign "please touch the clothes!" Von Maur is what Nordstrom used to be...service oriented with clothing for all. They have a nice shoe department (although not many narrows), wrap for free and have an interest free credit card. Large and clean rest rooms too. They also carry some unusual brands.....I can get Ralph Lauren and Not my Daughter's jeans anywhere. Their staff is helpful and professional. read more

I have to start out by saying that the quality Yorktown in general has really declined in the past five years or so, the clientele is nothing like that of those who live in the general area, and I think it really has sent this mall on the decline, which I do not enjoy. Von Maur is supposed to be an upscale department store, and it is if you compare it to the other department stores you can find in Yorktown, like Carson's and TJ Maxx, but in and of itself I would not consider it to be upscale. It is honestly just the lesser of the evils when at Yorktown. The biggest issue that I had there was that I bought a MARC Jacobs watch, and within a year the dial of the watch fell off so I was no longer able to change the time. I took the watch back to Von Maur and ask that they send it to the company to have the dial replaced and they tell me I need a receipt. I call MARC Jacobs and they informed me that you are to take it to where you purchased it, with or without a receipt, and they should send it to MARC Jacobs. MARC Jacobs also explained to me that if the watch is a counterfeit and you didn't get to from them, they will send it back without fixing it. Made sense to me, so I went back to Von Maur and explained the new information I learned. They still wouldn't send it back. So what I did was I took it to Nordstrom's, explained the situation, and even though I didn't get the watch at Nordstrom's, they sent it back and had it fixed for me. Since then I have made all expensive purchases such as bags, shoes, and watches at Nordstrom's, I do not want to give this awful establishment any business. Honestly, if you want a decent department store experience, dive the two miles down the road to Oak Brook, and shop at one of their options. No need in spending time in a wanna-be upscale department store that does nothing but disappoint. read more

Unfortunately, I wish I could give a rave review about this department store I once enjoyed shopping at when it first opened up, but that isn't the case. After the holiday, I found myself at Von Maur trying to use the gift card my Mother got me for Christmas. Upon my arrival on the second floor of the Men's Department, I began to venture into the immediately into the Men's Shoe area. After spending 3-4 minutes in this section, I realized that I had not been greeted by one single associate. "No big deal" I thought to myself. So I wandered over to Men's Sportwear in an attempt to find myself a nice winter coat that may be on sale. I began trying on coat, after coat, after coat - and after about 10 minutes of doing this - I suddenly realized that I had still not been greeted or even asked if I needed help with anything by an associate in this department either. I wasn't in a rush, so I still didn't think it was a big deal. I was unsuccessful in finding a coat, so I ventured back over to the Shoe Department to take a look at a pair of shoes I had my eye on before. Once I arrived there, I realized that there were 2 associates working and on the floor and one of them was helping a customer check out. So I grabbed the shoe of my interest and sat down to see how long it would take before someone helped me. After being seated, on this very 'slow' Tuesday afternoon at Von Maur, I decided to push the 'Start' button on my iPhone's stop watch to time how long it would take for someone to actually help me. Sadly, once the time hit 10 minutes and I still had not been helped - even though I was the only 1 of 2 people in the department at the time, that this was no longer a store I would shop at... EVER. I highly recommend that if you are looking for great customer service, Nordstroms, Macy's, Lord & Taylor and (hell even) Target does a better job of customer service than Von Maur. I can get clothes and shoes anywhere, and unfortunately Von Maur doesn't understand that. I hope your experience is far better than mine if take a trip out to Yorktown. read more

I have always loved this store for their great selection, impeccable customer service, free gift wrapping, and interest free credit card (that is very forgiving if you accidentally pay your bill late) but my last visit took the cake. Last Saturday evening I made a quick stop with my mom to look for a dress for an upcoming event. While I didn't find anything for the event, we both found some great deals on their sale racks. The best part, however, was the gentlemen playing the piano that night. He was playing all of these pop/hip-hop hits (very classy versions, of course). It was quite amusing as my mom and I took turns "naming that tune." I didn't have a chance to stop by the piano and thank him for the lovely entertainment but it sure made my night! read more

This place is great! It's very upper class without the snooty attitude. I've come in here looking like a scumbag, and they've been so friendly and helpful towards me. They have AMAZING sales (I've gotten a dress on a clearance rack for 5 dollars) and on top of that they also have an interest free credit card that I love! Von Maur is the place to go, especially their Yorktown location, if you want to purchase a nice gift or something quality for yourself. I went there looking for a friends birthday gift. This friend is the toughest person I know to buy for. Nothing is quite right and she's not one to return anything. Thus, every gift I've bought in the past is soon stored in the back of her closet or eventually ends up at Saint Vincent de Paul. Last years birthday purse was the ubiquitous wrong purchase simply because it didn't have a zipper. To try not to have to resort to effortless, mundane gift cards, I head to the handbags. Lo and behold, Jo is "here to help." She's helping we wade through purses that either have no apparent zipper or are too pricey. Showing me some of the Coach bags with a zipper, I pick the one I like best and am ready to roll - shockingly painless...I ask Jo if she can put a new tag on the purse since the one previously on the bag had fallen off. Before I knew it, Jo went in the back and came out with a new Coach bag, the same one I was buying, on this one had fresh tags and was wrapped in the original Coach wrap. For a bag that was $100 off, on a clearance t-stand, was brand new/untouched. There are so few places these days that offer much in the way of customer service. After Jo boxed up my friends gift, I took it too the top floor where my gift was gift-wrapped in perfect Happy Birthday paper. I couldn't ask for more! Even when spending more elsewhere, I usually get so much less. Love Yorktown Von Maur and Jo in Handbags is THE perfect salesperson! If it weren't for her, I would have been walking around for hours, looking for the right gift and likely not finding anything great. Nursing home or department store. You decide. I think it's quite clear. The decor screams 1992 teal, mauve, and brass--everywhere. Lighting is yellowish so the merchandise looks old. Is this department store based in Iowa or something?? The clothes are sooo farmer conservative. The decor so reminds me of a nursing je. Not a Dan. It's a Nordstrom wanna-be. Everyone in here is 50+ it seems. The salon shoes consists of the Paris Hilton brand, not what you would think of salon shoes being. It's fine if you like middle-of-the road places. But this place has some really good sales and carries a pretty good selection of brands, at least for someone in their 20's, I can't speak for anyone. My husband and I love this store. You can get incredible bargains on top designers. One thing to note not previously mentioned, there is no expiration for returns. We have two kids and shop the sales racks for clothes and especially shoes. If they grow past the sizes and don't wear them, we return them. Some of our returns have been over a year! The folks at Von Maur don't care, as long as you have the receipt, you get a full refund. Not a store credit...refund. It is amazing in this day and age. Carson's, Macy's, everyone else has their 90 day policy. Von Maur for service, perks, and sales gets an A+. read more

They have a really nice selection of handbags, There sales really aren't as good as you would think, they are still a little pricey but I like the atmosphere. I have shopped at this location and Charlestowne Mall. This store is Better than Nordstrom by far. Just the mere fact of the sales associates are always so nice, pleasant and professional. You won't find any associates wearing jeans or talking about last night's drink fest. At Nordstrom, the quality and neatness of the store has gone downhill and the sales staff is less than helpful. They have an interest free charge/house account and allow you to have seperate contracts for large purchases so that your payments are reasonable. They carry most of the name brands and merchandise that the big department stores carry. They gift wrap any item free of charge and also have free shipping and free gift wrap a gift that you purchase. They will do alterations for a very small fee. Love this place. The other reviews have pretty much covered all the pros, but some that were not: as a teen (junior in hs) I don't have a ton of money to spend and I often find a great deal here, I can't tell you how many times i have bought a dress here. several have been $15 and the rest $30 or under, like homecoming dresses and graduation ect. They also have good sales on regular clothes i have a pair of vigoss studio jeans (black skinny) that were $12! So for the nay sayers who think it's too expensive or trendy, are wrong, granted they do have old lady things but they have plenty of cute trendy stuff too. If you're looking for good prices you have to actually look and go through the sale racks and I guarantee you'll find something you like, and can afford. read more
