It was my first time coming to this location. I usually go to the HomeGoods/Marshall's in Lombard. I like this location, it's less congested than the one in the mall. The one attached to the mall feels like a madhouse with the narrow aisles and big shopping carts. This one you have two different size shopping carts and it's more spacious. Parking lot is ample. The products are placed neatly on the shelves vs the other location. I do have to take off a star for customer service. We stood in line for a few minutes and most of the employees were just standing around talking. Only two were actually working. One stopped talking to check us out, by that time the line got longer. It's easier if they just clear the line instead of letting it build up. read more

I asked the manager for a different size in one pair of pants she went on a rant about how she can't check the whole store. First off, anyone with basic common sense knows you only need to scan and the system will tell you if there's another size in the store. She was post-menopausal, and you could just tell. She was highly irritated with my question of whether or not there was another size in ONE garment in a retail store. How obscene it is for me to ask such an unheard-of question. I even told an employee about this terrible experience at the store, and she told me they've been having issues with customer service lately, that employees are becoming rude towards customers. I am comparing this TJ Maxx to other locations and my general feelings towards the store. This is a bargain store and a lot of the clothes section has a feel of a thrift store where everything is put together on one long pole. If you aren't wanting to dig through options, probably not the place for you. But they do have some clothes selections on display with all that sizes sorted behind them. I love this store because there is a variety of clothes, home goods, and tons of yummy and unique treats. I went on 11-21 and there are stocked to the brim with Christmas gifts options. The center aisles have additional tables with candies, gift baskets and other stuff for the season. Great place for those hard to buy for on your Christmas list. Also for a discount store, everything was very clean and has everything put in its place. There were some young staff chatting with each other in the corner of the store and the manager had to come redirect them, but I believe they were just seasonal help. I've always had good service with those I've interacted with directly, so not going to let that impact my review. read more

Hey management, corporate, WHOMEVER needs to hear this: STOP shoving your credit cards down people's throats. It's near harassment and unethical. I stood behind an elder woman yesterday whom did not want to open a card. She said this multiple times. She said she has cash she wants to use. And the cashier told her "you're going to lose $37 for not opening one. It's cheaper if you open it."... the customer was confused, and it was again explained to her that a discount is given if she applies. She politely refused and the cashier again asked if she wanted to open a card. Then I went up to the register, immediately was asked if I want to open a card to receive a discount on my purchase. I stated (hoping I would make myself clear): "I am not interested in opening a card, I don't need a discount, I'm paying with cash.".... When she gave me the total, she said "you'll be losing money by not opening a card." This is unethical. It makes me wonder how you're treating your employees that they are so prone to trying to sucker customers into opening a card with you. What's not mentioned is that you can save $9, however will be responsible for a 29% interest rate, in which you will lose money. Leave your customers alone. I won't be back. read more

Told the cashier no to the credit card application that they both you about and she shoved my clothes in the bag. She was so upset she forgot to place an item in the bag. I called the store, they confirmed they have my item and told me I would need to go back for it if I wanted it. I told the manager I wanted them to refund my card (I have the receipt) he told me he couldn't do that. (I feel like that's basically stealing from the consumer) if you don't refund them for something YOU the cashier forgot to put in the bag. Horrible customer service! Hope they close down. read more

We're glad that our house is finished. We renovate it into a modern look. We also decrease our home equipment. So my wife and I planned to come here to buy new things for our house. We first went to the cooking equipment section. We bought a casserole since our old casserole is missing when our house is being renovated. We also bought a rice cooker, glass, cap, plate, spoon and pork, and a cooking set. After we bought it we went to the section of the mirror. I want to buy a minor mirror for our living room. I found an aesthetic mirror that is perfect in our living room. Our cart was full and we went to the counter to pair our purchases. Gladly we bought everything we needed. read more

Treat the Black woman who returned a $300 rug the same way you treated the Black woman 2 days prior when she purchased the $300 rug....hassle free. Receipt in hand, w the $300 rug tag staples to it from purchase visit, and two days later from original purchase. Mike A, coordinator, says he has to open up the rug etc for the return. We wait no problem because the rug was towards the front and were further away. He comes back and says the rug doesn't match the receipt. I believe he called someone from the department but we were so far away. He comes back and says he can't return the rug. Eventually, he comes back deflated and says, "We are going to return the rug". I ask him are they going to take the $300 out of his check because he looked disgusted. He says, "No they not going to take it out of my check". Hmmm, this is the coordinator? After the return, I asked for the manager again now by the returned $300 rug. Cathie, the store manager, comes up. I ask her was she the store manager for clarification because of her attire.She informs me that Mike A is not a coordinator. Hmmm, so why are you allowing him to wear a name tag that reflects that. When I told Cathie how long I had been in her store and how he behave she kept asking me and my partner what did we want her to do. I told her more training for Mike A would be the first step. She said the tags didn't match originally. I show her on the rug the department #, sku, and price on the rug. I showed her the tag I that was staple to my receipt by her store. She said the size description didn't match the tags...something about it said 5x7. Whatever tags that were on there originally was still on it. But who can't see that rug wasn't 5'7? Purchased in 5 mins but the return is over 20 minutes. Cathie, kept asking what did I want her to do. Receipt, rug, lookup machine done in 6 minutes tops. This store is 5 minutes away from my home and I'll drive 20 mins to Yorktown or Countryside. I will never step foot in this store again Clutter! When customers stand in line for 15/20 minutes to get a view of the cluttered back counter. Is this a new directive from the company? read more

I went for a return and had my receipt. One of my items didn't have the packaging. I showed the lady what one it was on the receipt and she said that the return window was 5 days. Funny enough today was day 5... and on top of that the receipt stated January was the return window. Then she said it looked used but I did not use it since it didn't fit my kitchen sink. She called her manager and she was also very rude to me. She processed the return and she tossed the receipt at me. I have never felt so disrespected. I was full of anger and I just walked away. I couldn't even go in and shop for my Christmas decor because I was so upset. Rude workers. I wouldn't recommend going there read more

Armed with my trusty tape measure, I set off in search of the perfect lamp. I was side tracked by the cute purses, but regained my focus and headed toward the lighting department. Up and down each aisle, measuring, turning on and off ~ SUCCESS. I could have spent a great deal more time browsing, but happy with my find, I headed to check-out. I was very happy to see that there was a single line and multiple registers open. When you got to the head of the line, an announcement told you what cashier to head toward. Now, I did almost get knocked down by the person behind me as she charged to her cashier, but I found the staff to be very pleasant and the whole experience to be a positive one. I walked out of this store today a truly happy camper. My bathroom needed help and this store was exactly what the doctor ordered! I bought beautiful glass jars with cute lids to hold cotton balls, ear swabs, and soaps... That look great! Each only cost $6.50! I also snagged two identical soap pumps to keep my face wash and lotion in: it looks fabulous! My bathroom looks stylish and everything is right there! I have to admit that the lamp section was a little disappointing. I visited other home goods stores and TJ maxx stores and even a marshals but all the lamp sections seemed kind of bare... Maybe it's bc of the season? It's darker longer? Idk. Ppl working there are nice and efficient. It's really pretty organized for all of the stuff they have! RUDE WORKERS!!!! if i could give 0 stars i would. My cousin and I were shopping at T.J Maxx and asked a worker for help with a situation. There i was met with complete disrespect. The worker was being very rude and not helpful when it came to my question. She also was being rudley perssistant when it came to signing up for a credit card, after i said no thank you, i was met with eye rolling, and rude comments for not signing up. Purchased a men's Tommy Hilfiger leather belt, Hilfiger silk tie, and Calvin Klein cologne for what that one bottle would normally cost at a department store. I breezed past the ladies clothing but the ladies handbags caught my eye with several well known names including Steve Madden, Kate Spade, Calvin Klein, and Michael Kors. It's a clean and uncongested store. The parking lot gets a little hectic as they're next to Best Buy and across from Old Navy. You can defiintely find me in here when I'm having a Maxxinista moment. read more

I have found some really great deals at this TJ Maxx. I have had smooth experiences here. -----Unfortunately though I have had several rude interactions with staff here that lead me to my 3 star review. I was in there the other evening around 5:45). When I asked for an employee for the store hours she replied : "we close in 10 mins, please stop shopping and get in line". Scolded with my tail between my legs I scurried up front to the line. Product in hand I walk towards the register. I look up at the cashier and she takes my item, I say : "Hello!" ...She looks at me. She puts my item in the bag...I swipe my card, get my receipt and then say "Have a nice evening!" and she looked at me...again...blankly. I say "Have a nice evening!" a second time...but with no reply. I guess I prefer silence over rudeness but when given the option...I'll take neither. read more

I drive over an hour to visit this location once a week every single week religiously. I always bring in my small dog. It's NEVER been an issue. My dog is very well behaved and only 12 lbs. she was in her stroller when I walked in and a woman stuck her face in the stroller and scared my dog and she barked. Well I walked away and the manager in there named Jen a little over 5 ft. With a little longer than shoulder length black hair came up to me and the people I was with and told me that if the dog barked again she would throw us out. Well while she was scolding us the dog barked again (perhaps because she was in my face yelling at us) and then asked us if we wanted to take turns in the store but the dog had to leave. And I told her perhaps if she wasn't in our space yelling at us that wouldn't happen. So I put everything back and left. I don't think we deserved this treatment as we spend hundreds of dollars there every week between the three of us. I could see if she had told us nicely to get the dog not to bark but she was very aggressive and rude about it. Also the dog wouldn't have barked again if she wasn't in our space yelling. Maybe you should consider hiring a manager that's not aggressive and rude before you lose all of your customers read more

Where else can you get stylish Chip and Pepper jeans for $39? I'm amazed by the selection here. AMAZED i tell you. Honestly, I usually don't leave the front part of the women's department. I park my happy ass and browse for at least an hour. They carry great (expensive) brands at fabulous prices... and I love coming here looking for cheap work clothes. And I got me a Paula Deen cookbook for $12!!! OMG it's Paula Deen! And lo and behold, I've ACTUALLY used it about 6x already. So, it's already paid for itself. Because it made me cook. Which is a miracle really. Granted, everything has a stick of butter in it, but my cheap purchase is making others think I can actually bake and such. SCORE! And if you want purses, I've found plenty. This is usually my first stop...and I always get millions of compliments on the ones I buy from here. So, this is just some general information, don't go and buy them all up...I have my seasonal needs to be met still... Overall, one of the better TJ Maxx's I've been to. Allowing shoppers to bring carts out of the stores without having cart corrals is an extremely careless and negligent oversight. The sloping parking lots make it neccesary to park away from cars and the building to keep from returning to a car with a fresh dent. The staff surely doesnt get payed enough to go fishing for carts around the parking lot either. Do better. read more

I LOVE GOOD SAVINGS! This is one of the best TJ Maxx/Homegoods stores in the suburbs. They have the benefit of having a TJ's and a Homegoods under one roof and I believe that the consistently have some of the best products. I have had more WINS at this store than at any other location. They are my go-to store for gifts for others (and myself!). I was recently invited to one of their private card member events (That's right, those events are REAL!) My sister and I were so excited to shop 2 hours before their general shopping hours and loved being able to view their new arrivals before everyone else. Their store card is one of my favorite store cards too! For every $200 you spend at TJ, Homegoods, or Marshall's they send you a $10 giftcard. SO EASY! read more

I can't go visit my parents without stopping by here to take a look. Out of all the TJ Maxx stores I have to say this one is usually the bomb. Unfortunately yesterday nothing caught my eye. Or maybe it was all the thrift stores I stopped at made me think everything was way over priced?!? Issues I do enjoy their jewelry counter and tried on a green amethyst ring that ended up not needing to come home with me. I don't bother looking at shoes any more. Great savings are possible if you go regularly and look at the clearance shelves /racks. I have had some pretty good scores here. I usually head for the food and cooking area. I've gotten some nice knives here as well as a variety of cool kitchen accessories. Based on a tip from a friend, I found a Himalayan salt block for use in searing proteins (scallops in my case). I also have been impressed with the luggage selection here. You'll be able to find brands that are on popular luggage websites for much cheaper. You can get some pretty nice name brand clothing here for excellent prices. Again it requires coming back to check regularly. This seems a little organized than a lot of TJ Maxx stores I have seen. I like the checkout system--they take the next person in line, rather than trying to guess which line is moving the fastest. If you haven't been here, I recommend you check it out. read more

I am still giving the Lemont location only one star, but wanted to report that I took the defective handbag to the TJMaxx Oakbrook location where I was able to return it for a store credit. While they weren't "cheerful" about it, they also did not argue and no one was rude. So, what I have learned from this is that even though you're looking at an expensive handbag, don't assume anything. Look it all over both inide and out for shoddy stitching, etc, so that you don't end up fighting for your rights. The idea that the "customer is always right" went away long, long ago. This is a good TJ Maxx. It contains the HOME GOODS too, so it has a nice selection. As you know, you gotta have patience and time to shop at the Maxx. But sometimes you find the BEST things here. Name brands at great prices -- or as their slogan goes, Max for the Min. But friends, the best TJ MAXX is in Countryside, where you also have the RUNWAY (designer high end clothing). This particular location in Downers Grove is probably my second fav TJ Maxx. When I come with my sister, we usually never spend less than 2 hours at TJMaxx. We sometimes have a competition to see who can find the cutest piece of clothing for the least amount of $. Serious fun. If you have time and patience, go to the Maxx. The store managers are both very useless and mean people specially Mike .The guy has absolutely no acknowledge about business , very poor communication skills and never look happy .We were asking for "price" on item and they completely misleading us with there prices .We try to purchase item without tag from RALPH LAUREN(men's vest) so they find item from NORTH FACE(men's jacket) and try to tell me this is the "best match " they have .So I was looking for better match&price my self and I did find exactly same vest from RALPH LAUREN (just bit darker) and try to explain Mike that this is the best match from same brand and Mike was keep telling me no you wrong .The best match is NORTH FACE vs RALPH LAUREN not RALPH LAUREN vs RALPH LAUREN not because I was 100% right but he just don't know and possibly don't like his customers as well. This T MAXX on Lemont RD is ok..........they are falling off in merchandise, the PERFUME DEPT. is usually CLUTTERED, and most of the SALES REPS, appear to be under a lottttttttt of STRESS, I shop there often and I pick up on body language as well. I ALWAYS ALWAYS find a BARGAIN when I go, the CLEARANCE rack is not the same. This store is changing, not sure what or WHY , but it's not the same as 2 years ago. EVERYTHING APPEARS TO BE CLUTTERED IN CLOTHES DEPT................( LADIES DEPT.) WE NEED ROOM TO MOVE AROUND THOSE RACKS . Furniture #1 / Teas & Coffees #1 / FOOD #1 , and the Houseware goes without saying #1. I hope they get to ROOT of WHAT'S really going on! I'm a Home Goods fanatic. If there is a Home Goods near me, I must check it out and spend hours browsing! This Home Goods isn't great. The TJ Maxx section offers a very good variety of clothes; I love it. The Home Goods section is so lacking. There is an odd selection of items - they have a gazillion dishes, and barely any pillows or florals (seriously, literally 10 flowers to choose from.) Also hardly any acrylic items (makeup/bath organization). It was hard for me to find great pieces here. Just overall a poor variety. Probably won't be coming back here read more
