This review is for their Pick Up and Go service. While looking for a safe alternative in Grocery shopping, I tried out the Pick Up service from Von's because of the ability to first see if there are any Pick Up slots on their website. The first time was testing my patience, getting 70% of my groceries, another 20% were reasonable substitutions. I waited in the Pick Up area for about 45 minutes. I know were in special times so I gave them the benefit of the doubt and tried them again. The second time I arrived on time for my 5 PM pick up. While waiting I was told that I was supposed to get an email confirmation first and to come back later. I was angry they didn't send me notification that it would be delayed. While waiting on the Customer Service phone line for 10 minutes (debating to just cancel/get a refund for everything) I finally get an email confirmation at 8:15 PM. I arrive back at the store parking lot and I'm waiting for 30-40 minutes. They were out of about 10-15% of my grocery list. They said they were slammed and apologized for the wait - but the waiting and lack of communication is not worth it and I'll be looking to shop elsewhere. read more

When it comes to grocery delivery, no substitutions MEANS no substitutions. This is the 2nd consecutive order from this store that I requested no substitutions prior to submitting, and yet these instructions were not followed. The last time was right before Thanksgiving, a pecan pie was ordered, and they substituted a mince pie. Tonight they sent cups of noodles, when ramen packets were ordered - normally this wouldn't be a big deal, but plain ramen was required for a recipe, and the cups of noodles already have seasonings and vegetables. I called Von's customer service line, and after 20 minutes on hold, I finally gave up and called the store directly. After discussing the issue with a store employee, they advised that everyone from the department that handles online orders had gone home for the day (at 5:30 in the afternoon) and that the store manager could not help me, that I would have to call back tomorrow to talk to someone from that department. How incredibly frustrating that simple instructions cannot be followed, and even though it's Von's error, there is no one available at a reasonable hour to address the issue. If this were the first time this had happened, I wouldn't even bother writing a review, but seeing as it's the 2nd consecutive time, it might be time to consider a new grocery service. read more

Always a helpful friendly staff. Brought in my Rhino Propane tank for a switchero. $19.99 with a trade in tank, $50 without. Leave the empty one outside and then get a manager to help you out. Tanks arent allowed in the store. Oh and their ice cream cakes were surprisingly delicious! read more

I've been here so many times, I can tell when something is truly on sale, or if there just f*cking with you. The service depends on the worker, but most of the time it's average. There's even that worker here that hates her job, but it's all good. There are many things here that are a bit overpriced compared to other places. But, they do have some deals here and there. There are 60-70 cookies for about five bucks. The soups is delicious, with a hand full of free crackers, makes it a pretty good deal for the large size. There chips do go on sale here and there, but I don't recommend to buy them on regular price, better to get some at a overpriced liquor store. If you want one of there subs, ask for a fresh one; you may have to wait, but it's better to get a fresh one than a week old one. One in a while they have some great fruit here, most of the time, they're delicious. The ready cooked meals are a bit overpriced, but they're great. There's a small Starbucks inside for you coffee lovers. read more

This is specifically about the deli I've come here a few times and bought hot or fresh deli food, and it's always pretty good, if not just run of the mill or a little more expensive than say Albertsons deli and sometime they run out of the popular items like fried chicken or potato wedges Minus another star because I've tried to find broccoli Cheddar soup and they kept sending me back and forth between different people to ask and it turned out they were just out. I used come to this market for all my groceries until the employees at the deli were rude repeatedly to me and other customers. I not only noticed it once I noticed it every week. It really seemed like they hated their job. No smiles or thank you ever. This morning I didn't feel like driving further to the other market, it was just to hot. Just used their bathroom. OH MY GOD. Disgusting beyond words. Far from clean, smells (more than just a public bathroom), graffiti and tagging everywhere. The sink and floor has brown markings everywhere - it was clear that nobody has cleaned that bathroom in a long time. The mirror is completely tagged. I understand that customers or kids have come in there and messed up the walls but no excuse for the bathroom to remain unclean. Also, it's a Vons - a huge corporation. A truly cringe-worthy Vons. Vons survey question #2 : Employees make checkout as fast and efficient as possible. The survey should be reworded. Dont put the burden on the only people who are actually working. The Employees are great (it seems they hate their lives and their boss but they're nice!) at checking people out, generally pleasant and quick. Management is oblivious to how many of those employees are needed for the job. I shop here at night on my way home from work, and it is ALWAYS a miserable experience. 1. The line is too LONG! The brilliant manager waits until there are about 35 people in the one open line until he opens one more. (To be fair, the one at the very nice and very rich South Pasadena store does too. Knock that shit off.) 2 The stock is always depleted, especially the meat department. The displays are empty. 3.The butcher hits one me as I scavenge the nasty picked over meats, and it is downright revolting. 4. Before, after, and during my shopping trip, I am begged for money from various junkies and unconvincing 'charitable organizations" outside, and the same happens at the checkout. I'm tired of being berated for my money. There are too many panhandlers at this vons, and that includes Vons! 5. This vons is dirtier, shabbier, and more like a food4less than any other vons I have ever been in. You guys should be embarrassed. Most recently, the dirty old coffee grinder was broken for several days . 6. The produce. Never mind. I'll just say with a few exceptions, I will never buy it here. If they want to hear about why, they can hire me as an area consultant. 7. The wine selection SUCKS and I really need a DECENT CAB after the disappointing and draining experience of being harassed for my money before during and after shopping, not being able to buy $3/lb chicken breast I came for, not being able to grind the coffee I bought here ONLY because it was on sale. 8. They block off the door at one end of the store. I am so tired and done, wishing I was home and I go all the way across the store to the door closest to my car in an attempt to dodge your lot roaches, and I'm not allowed to exit, and have to turn around and parade all the way back and around. 9.The parking lot is on a hill. In order to keep my cart from rolling away, I link my foot through the bottom and hold on with my flexed ankle and, as fast as I can, load groceries. Meanwhile I contemplate how I spent $60 on a 5 lbs of potatoes, 2lbs of tomatoes, a 5 lb chicken, and a bag of grapes with Disney princesses on the plastic while various zombies attempt to convince me to hand over what ever money is left. I know this particular store is on the wrong side of the blvd., but regardless, it is utterly surrounded by people with A Lot of Money. I would think Vons, as a corporate entity would at acknowledge and respect that if nothing else, and make it a bit more approachable and accommodating. read more

Other than having to strategically park your car and stealthily plot your entrance to avoid the Girl Scouts / Homeless / Make Marijuana and Hand Job Places Legal people always at one of the entrances, c'mon now haters - how can you less than 5 star this place?. You can get HOOD food and WHOLE FOODS type food in one location (from Canel's Mexican gum to Daiya cheese and organic stuff....it's all here!) Also, their deli counter makes freaking pancakes and sausage on a stick!! Seriously, if you want someone to fall asleep from eating - serve it to them dipped in some syrup!! Also, Starbucks inside that lets you sit as long as you want / Redbox/ safe ATM inside plus ALWAYS lots of lines open. What the hell is up with Costco not having chorizo? Or sausage links? Do they have something against phallic-shaped pork products? Why do they only carry ITALIAN sausage? What if you don't want your sausage international? Costco, seriously, you have movie tickets, but no chorizo. They must have something against Mexicans.... Anyway, thank the stars for this Vons. The problem with making good chorizo is that people want you to keep making it. I pretty much only make it for my girls. And since our monthly Costco trip failed to provide chorizo, Vons it was. Thank you Mr. Produce man for directing me to the chorizo. So helpful at 6:45am. More helpful than I could ever be at that hour. Also, super helpful to have a Starbucks inside. Life saver for sure. Also, they have such helpful bakery staff. We've ordered 2 birthday cakes from here and they've been aight. Believe me when I say they've got damn good sandwiches in their deli. Especially their turkey sandwiches! Wow. $4.99 and Aimee's as happy as a, well, a clam I guess. I especially appreciate the sympathetic looks I get when one of the girls throws a mini-tantrum because I won't buy her Star magazine so she can find out what Paris Hilton's jail cell is like. read more

My family and I have been going to this Vons for 8 years now. We've witnessed firsthand how it has gradually descended from a decent local market to somewhere we don't feel SAFE going to. Originally, our only issues were 1) the hilariously rude deli people (they changed over time and now they're actually nice) It was also a huge nightmare if you had to go to the restroom at this vons. The bathrooms were absolutely filthy! But this is the clincher. They never had any paper towels do dry your hands (at a supermarket no less) nor did they have the air dryer. Which brought me to the horrible thought that If I can't wash and dry my hands properly, how are the workers doing it? The straw (or huge Oak tree) that broke the camel's back is the parking lot and entrance of the store have become hangouts for every drug addicted peddler and drunk homeless people. Every day that I shop here, I expect to be accosted by some drunk or vagrant. I asked the supervisor about this and he said well we have a security guard at night, but he can't do anything, its public property. Really? No its not! its your property. I looked into the crime in this parking lot and found that a man was robbed at gunpoint earlier this year after cashing his check at the bank inside and walking to his car. To all fellow yelpers, please be careful when you go here and maybe someone in Von's corporate could read this and do something about it. We miss our local supermarket. read more

This Von's gives me very mixed feelings. In some ways I love it, and in others I can't stand it. First off the produce is sub-par like all the other Von's I have ever gone to. All the fruit and veggies seem torn up and flavorless. On the flip side their selection of booze is impressive. You can get everything from Stone Ale to PBR and Sparkz in the beer aisle. I have had some of the best and worse check out clerks here, it's spotty. Today I waited in the express line for 15min while the clerk kept running out of change. A customer finally had to break a hundred for her because the manager didn't seem to know what to do. Lame. A big plus about this place in my book are all the "special" people that seem to frequent in or around the Von's. I got to gawk at a lady wearing a big black tshirt that went down like a skirt, with one leg in fish net stockings and the other in a solid black stocking. Life as entertainment makes me smile. They also have a wells fargo in there so you can hit an atm or cash a check or get a new mortgage on your house. Metro rail info? Naw, I am sure you would rather shop closer to home. read more

This market is very clean and the staff is helpful. Had to pick up some milk and other daily items and since I was in the area I came here. Plenty of parking that is for sure. Located near the on ramp and off ramp at Figueroa and Colorado Blvd (134 Freeway) in Highland Park. Walked around the store and everything was organized well and signs indicating what is along the aisles. Picked up milk, bananas, oranges, chips and so on. I thought I had a Von's membership but I was probably using a friends or families account. Gigi was helpful in setting me up with a membership card (exclusive now) and Matthew packaged my belongings. Walked in and walked out in under 30 minutes. Will return again soon. read more

The best Von's in Los Angeles! It is very clean and beautiful inside, all the products are fresh and kept in perfect conditions. The customer service is perfect, almost no lines (that is not typical for Von's chain). Also, there is Starbucks to drink coffee and have a little break. The parking is spacious. read more

This review is for the deli section of this Vons branch. I was hungry for lunch and didn't have anything else nearby back home (FL) I trust the Publix deli to make me a good sandwich for a decent price. Picked the turkey pesto avocado. I dunno, my mistake partially. It still kinda like a good sandwich to me but ultimately it fails. Too wet or too much or something. Pesto is wet and oily, avocado is wet and oily and mayo... Well, you get the point. Sandwich with chips and a drink for... $13. Even if the sandwich was good... That's way over the basic lunch cost. read more

Those magic words: "I can take you over here." One might think it coincidence-- except I hear it almost every time. Like a fairy tale, it seems a Vons employee almost always approaches me as I stagger towards the checkout, and whispers those special words to me, before ushering me over to my very own checkout. Maybe it's the baby flailing in my arms, or the frantic look on my face, but I know of others who have been treated well here too. This Vons is such a pleasure to visit-- with excellent prices, a well-stocked and diverse selection, including the wonderful new "O" Organics line, and, drumroll please, a lovely new Starbucks. While the Starbucks employees tend to be a little scattered, and the pastry selection tends to be sparse, at best, the friendliness and convenience more than make up for this. The Vons on Figueroa is very clean and pretty much has everything I need. The Starbucks kiosk is great! On $5 Fridays, they offer a grande drink with a pastry. Loved this! I usually go for their deli chicken and their discount on bulk wine deal. If you are a member and a discerning shopper, this is a good place for you. read more

Reason being: I purchase their amazing jalapeno cheddar sandwich rolls. 55 cents each. Always very fresh! I suggest you arrive between opening time and 12 noon, because those puppies go pretty fast. If you're late, you might get the gnarly dry one from which all the tasty jalapenos have fallen. read more

The Good I like this Vons because it is convenient, has a ton of parking, is open late, and always has a decent deal on drinks. The Bad I don't like this Vons because of their long lines, lack of service, and bad prices. Overall It's a-okk; Good for somethings and bad for others. Convenience! Close to where I am in Eagle Rock. Great selection of fresh produce and products in general. Decent butcher who makes cuts to your order upon request. Make sure you get the VON's Card ... it will save you a lot of money!!! There is a Starbucks inside and although I am not a great fan of Starbucks in general, this one is not bad. Free WiFi and kind of cosy and relatively calm in the middle of the hustle and bustle of a large supermarket. Ample parking facilities in front. read more

I haven't yelped anything in years! But besides this place being so expensive, the sale price tags are almost always wrong! The wrong product being on the section with the sale items and then I had to go back and got the right product and still came out $2.99 instead of $1.97. When I asked why when it says $1.97 on the tag, cashier told me "i don't know, its coming up at $2.99". Did not even bother to check! I've been coming here for years and so many times they made a mistake ringing up my items. So check your receipts at all times! I live really close but I would rather go to trader joe's or some other place with better customer service and employees who know how to do their job well. read more

Aaahhh, the pain relief aisle-My favorite aisle of late seeing as how I've been in some ass-kicking pain the last couple of days. Hhmmm. . 220 Motrin Caplets. . .on sale with the Vons Club. . .my pain is subsiding already. This Vons got a major makeover like a year or two ago. It looks great, and the dim lighting provides much relief to my eyes. The only things that keep me from coming to this Vons more often are: 1. The creepy people that go there after 8:00pm. 2. Honestly this market location is extremely sketchy. For some reason in recent years there has been an influx of homeless people who like to congregate out front. There are crazy ones who yell and talk to themselves, and ones who sit out front smoking all day long. You need to make your way through the clouds of smoke/ angry homeless/ people begging just to pick up some groceries, and while this may not be Vons' fault, it certainly doesn't make me feel comfortable shopping here. read more
