I stopped by really quickly to pick up a Carvel cake for my man's younger brother's birthday that Sunday, January 5, 2020 and was delighted to my amusement that they were stocked with large ice cream cakes and small ones. Considering their freezer space I opted for the smaller one since his son used to have a note on their fridge saying "No Ice Cream For Daddy". I wrote on the note "why can't he have ice cream?" And he wrote back "cuz he's fat!" Hahaha! Little kids! You gotta love them... his dad is a scuba instructor and avid rock climber so he is hardly fat at all! Living on Long Island, NY when the Islanders has their dynasty in the early 1980s, we looked forward to celebrations with Carvel Ice Cream Cakes and I'm ecstatic that Vons carries them so I can continue to share our family's tradition we loved so much! What's awesome about this particular Vons is their staff! They're so accommodating and genuinely nice! When Ben & Jerry's discontinued their Banana Split Flavor, they attempted to order it for me and took down my name & number to let me know the results. THAT'S service!!! I brought the cake to the bakery attendant and she was more than happy to write his name on the cake personalizing it at no extra charge! People that work here are genuinely nice and foster the spirit of helpfulness and actual service! They're positive and just add to the overall goodness of our community! Thank you Vons for such a wonderful experience and giving that ice cream cake that extra special touch! read more

Not a big fan of this Vons. The parking lot isn't horrible but no one can drive so be very careful especially around Walmart and Home Depot. Prices are super expensive but it's Vons, so what do you expect? $6 for asparagus? I think not. Their produce selection can be worse than the 99 cent only store on a good day. Store can be overly crowded which I can see makes some of the employees annoyed. I was especially disappointed the other week when these two cashiers were SO extremely rude and impatient to this older woman. She was having difficulty using her debit/credit card. She couldn't remember her pin or there was another issue. The initial guy was obviously eager to get off register so he kept on repeating "Your card is not processing. You need to call your bank. Do you have cash?" He would never let her answer and just walked away for another cashier to take over. The new cashier was actually more rude than the initial one and I almost had to step in. Thankfully the older woman pulls out cash to pay the new cashier which could have been easily straightened out if the first cashier wasn't frustrated. What got me even more was the first cashier wasn't even going on break or anything, I know because he was still lingering around the area pretending to sweep or something. I know what being frustrated with a customer is like but ignoring and over-talking to an old woman is my final straw for this Vons. After this debacle we asked how much money we saved on a certain item by buying in multiple. Second cashier could not answer the question without asking 3 times. She then had the audacity to apologize for the wait to the next customer in line and not us for the wait she made happen minutes prior... yet we were the issue. Yeah. NO. Will NEVER go back to after this interaction after what I witnessed. I drive to Chula Vista to get my groceries now and never from Vons. read more

Vons is pretty consistent as is. This one has it all and I cant complain about a thing. Once had a vendor go and get me a product off the restocking truck. I have gotten many of the deli meats, and ready to eat items. Enjoyed them all. Great parking. It is my local grocer and not have much else to say. read more

Quality of goods can be a challenge here, and the customer service suffers because of mediocre management. This is NOT an isolated incident. Today I watched 3 people in front of me drop their groceries and leave the store after waiting for over 10 minutes for the checker to complete a transaction. The checker kept running the credit card over and over for the customer. Then, she ran several other cards over and over, while all of the open check stands were moving smoothly and efficiently. This line did not move for over ten minutes!Fifteen minutes later I went to the manager on duty to explain how his store and it's customers were suffering. He could care less, he just shrugged his shoulders and nodded his head. Really? That's how you manage a grocery store? That's not a manager-that's an overpaid-under qualified employee only there to get a paycheck. Hey manager-Do us ALL a favor, and get out of the grocery business. Maybe get a dummy job at parks and rec-LOL. You certainly do not belong in retail, let alone management. I will take my business elsewhere! I am reporting this to corporate, as well. I came here at 1am to get a couple of items and the door is already locked as if you guys where closed. Online you guys have it posted that you're open until 2am. So I drove all the way here just not to get inside. Vons is great with sales that's mainly why I go. I usually get all the things I need at Walmart and target. But vons also got great things too. When I need fresh veggies I get that here. Walmart and target don't have much selection or fresh stuff like vons. Anyways other than that that's my review on vons. This is the supermarket I go to. What I like about this Vons, is that they are always well stocked. The produce department is Ok. The Meat Department is not bad, they have a good selection of items for BBQ'ing. The Beer and wine isles are decent enough. The Bakery is somewhat average, But they do sell slices of Cheese cake, Carrot Cake, and German Chocolate Cake. It usually isn't too packed inside and the lines move pretty quick. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. I called and checked if they would have canned pumpkin and was told a definite yes, of course, it's in the baking aisle! I had a total let down last night. My husband came home to cook me a birthday dinner he brought home wine , rib eye steaks and some snow crab legs... as soon as he opend up the crab legs...... gosh damn it lit up our entire apartment. The stench of ammonia was overwelming. I have never been so dissapointed, I would expect this from Wallys market but from Vons, come on people you are a big corporation making lots of money but all you can provide is spoiled seafood?? This Von's is okay. Doesn't have a Starbucks inside. Every time we come here on a Friday night, the $5 dollar specials on Friday are always gone. This place is clean & the lines can get kind of long. I really like Von's selection of organic produce. This isn't my go-to place for buying groceries but it is great for those times I cannot make it to Trader Joe's or the commissary. I love that they have 12-packs of their Safeway brand of Refreshe Lemon Sparkling Water & Club Soda. We go through cases of that a week and they are so reasonably priced there (with the Von's club card of course). read more

The only thing good about this vons is the bank inside. The "managers" are always on break. Ive asked 3 times for them and theyre always on a break... The desk for money orders never has people. I came yeaterday and they told me the girl that was scheduled there was on break, the "supervisor" was on a register and the manager was on a break... ok so theres no coverage? They open and close that help desk whenever they want. Last time i came at 10 on a saturday and it wasnt open but later asked an employee and he said they open it at 9... so why isnt there ever people there to help??? One of the nicest Vons i have been to. The place is always clean and stocked! Besides it beats doing to Albertsons! that store looks like doodoo! The only downside to the place, they have two checkers there that kinda just give me the willies! one lady mumbles and you can hardly make out what she's saying, god bless her soul shes nice but the mumble bit has got to go. The other is an old school GANGSTA, like if i ask the wrong question he'll shank me! One of THE worst Von's I've ever been to and a perfect example why union workers, like tenured teachers give some of the customer service ever. The store itself is okay, it's decently clean, plenty to choose from but the morning I was there, I think the old dude had a fight with his old lady because he was the biggest sack of poop I've ever had the displeasure to be served by. I would like to take time to say. one of the butcher/ meat department really shows professionalism with is customer service. Not sure of his name sorry to use description he is extremely tall. However, on more than one occasion I had to interrupt him while he was busy doing his job. Not only did he stop to help he went and got the product for me. Another time I needed to buy meat it was to much meat and expensive. employee took the time to make it happen for me . went in the back cut meat in half came back with two packages here you go is this affordable? the other pack will sale it's a win. You don't see service like this anymore. I had to take time to say great customer service. Love this place. If you want some fresh organic fruits , this is the place to come (don't forget anything organic is also expensive). If you ever feel lazy and dont feel like cooking, they have a signature cafe ,where they make deliciously tasting food and it's affordable. They have fresh meat and sea foods and their bakery section is awesome. A membership card will save you some more money,so yoi should get it! Customer service does a great job! The products department is very limited with produce that won't go bad within the first 24 hours after you take it home. I've had to return produce items 3 times now & I even had to return a box of soup that had been sliced open during the stocking process that I didn't notice until I went to open it. My 5 star rating is for the Vons floor manager, Denise. She really went out of her way to correct a disappointing experience that I had with the bakery. I had placed an order for bagels yesterday for a 10:00 am company meeting we were having today. It was supposed to be ready for pickup this morning at 7:30 am. When I arrived, I was told there were no bagels because their equipment was down. Needless to say, I got upset. I understand that things happen. However, I received no phone call so that I can make other arrangements. I asked to speak to a manager. Denise sincerely apologized and acted immediately to correct the situation. She dialed up another Vons location, asked them to hold whatever bagels they had and said she would be picking them up. She literally went the extra mile (well 5) and delivered them to our office! And well before the meeting time. The bagels were warm, fresh and delicious!! If that wasn't enough, she also supplied us with a pink donut-type box for presentation! Wow, it's the small details, right? I'm happy to say that because of her action, I will not hold it against the bakery (as I said, things happen)... and I will still use this Vons location. I will still use the bakery and I will use the deli for future company meetings/functions! Now that a manager! read more

Well....not joking: Just had a German chocolate cake out of the bakery, aaaaaannnnnnddddd it had a maggot in it. That's right. A real, honest to god, maggot. "Maybe it was coconut!", we tried to convince ourselves. We came to terms that it wasn't coconut, as coconut doesn't move on its own accord and has tiny little brown feet. Nope. A maggot. When I called the manager to let him know that he should throw THEM ALL OUT...he was nonplussed and cavalier about ME.FINDING.A.MAGGOT.IN.A.PIECE.OF.CAKE.....makes one wonder how many times this has happened. My favorite Vons in the South Bay area. The staff is always friendly and almost overly chatty, but I suppose that's better than sullen and borderline suicidal high school students at other stores. The deli is outstanding at this location; I love the fried chicken deals- I just got 50 pieces for $40 for my party today, and was impressed how well it was packed and presented. The meat counter is tops; if you don't see the cut you want, even on sale, let the butcher know- He'll chop your selected cut of tasty dead animal and wrap it with the good price. Lots of tasty baked treats as well, and a good bread section. Hey, the AC is always extra chilly, too, which is why I don't go to Savalot (Calimax North, lol). I've always wondered about grocers that keep it hit and sweaty inside. Pretty iffy. Anyway, Vons Palm City is awesome! read more
