I must say though, my shopping experience at Food 4 Less in National City was surprisingly a vey good one. Compared to Chula Vista, this location was much more quiet, calmer, and not crowded. Lots of available carts. Registers had no more than 2-4 persons in line. I was happy. There was lots of parking, but the parking lot itself looked ragged and old. I went to buy my groceries like I do every week. I've been going to this location for the past 3 years, and lately I've noticed that I was charged for items I didn't buy. But today was outrageous!!! I was charged THREE TIMES the same bill?!?! I noticed when I got home and checked my bank account. This is obviously THEFT!! And when I went back to the store a I was told that they couldn't do anything about it, that I could go back on Sunday at 4am to speak to the accountant?!?!? REALLY?!?!? What's wrong with you?!?!? I didn't want to spend more than I did! I didn't planned to spend more than I did!!!!! The less you could have done is give me my money back!!!! And it get my attention to see that this kind of "transactions" are made on weekends, when a customer can not complain?!?!? I went tonight to do a little of grocery shopping. I think I had about like 18 items and I went into the 15 or less cashier because I had my mom with me and she had like about four items separately , so we stood in line and then I started putting all my groceries on top of the check out divider and the cashier that was there she has glasses with short black hair and I didn't get her name, but I was on the phone when I was putting my groceries on the check out and she gave me this really dirty look and I got off the phone and then she shook her head and said you have more than 15 items and I said so I'm sorry and she was very upset and disappointed at me and I said what would you like me to do cause I already put all my groceries on top of there ! The. She goes get them off and put them back in the cart and I said what are you for real? And she went around the counter and put all my groceries back in the cart in front of my mom and other customers she made a spectacle out of me, scolded me and threw my groceries back in the cart really aggressively. I have it on video and then I asked for the manager and she said yeah Jon he'll help you like get away from my register and I was really embarrassed, and I felt really bad. It was the worst experience ever I live in national city and I always go to that Food 4 Less like that's my go to place that I go to and I've never been treated this way. It was the most horrible experience. Like the name states "Food 4 Less", cheap affordable food but still good quality. They have a wide selection of fresh produce, meat, seafood and offer a deli department. Quality and quantity of different food and supplies is amazing for the price they offer. Something that sets this place different from the rest is the amount and diversity of spices they have. Service and staff are average. Minimal cashiers so the lines were long. Self check out kiosk are available. Overall; great for saving money for groceries. Highly recommend. read more

Have not shopped here much since covid started. However it was one of my many go to grocery stores based upon it's quality, quantity and pricing. But like everywhere else pricing has seemed to go up. They have a security guard who watches the door, sometimes I feel like it takes a while to check out and this location does not have self check out. The liquor is now moved to the front of the store in a locked glass cabinet. Also there is nobody who man's the customer service desk and it's typically one of the cashiers who will assist you.I feel like so much has changed since covid that was not normal practice. This location does have fresh meat as well as seafood available to purchase by weight.They also carry Starbucks creamers which a lot of grocery stores it's hit-or-miss. The downfall is when they do have special sales if you don't get it the same day the ad comes out you are SOl. They used to do rain checks but not sure if that is still being honored at this location. read more

This location is can get exceptional busy at times. It's located in National city adjacent to Toys R Us. Be prepared for Looooong lines no matter what time of the day. They are only 3 max 4 cash registers open at one time. The parking is ok. Fresh guacamole is now available!!! The have recently made some upgrades in the past 2 years they've added a butcher shop in the back of the store. Produce is average sometimes overly ripped but the prices are extraordinary. They do offer some organic fruits and veggies but the selection is limited. Download the Ralph app for digital coupons (extra extra savings). The store is fairly clean. The aisle are organized, free of debris & with a limited number of misplaced items. Shelves are normally well stocked but when there's a sell on a popular item get there early. This store has a lot of whatever you are looking for. In the meat department they even have a Carniceria / Meat Counter with real Carniceros / Butchers. The best butcher is David. **Businesses Operating During 2020 Pandemic** REVIEW #1 I wanna start off by saying I've never shopped at Food 4 Less at all, but this was the first store that my husband and I have gone to during all this craziness going on and let me see that day from what our friends tell us have been pretty stocked up with food... So we gave it a chance and went there since we had no look at any of the Walmarts and when I tell you we walked out with probably out of a list of 30 things we walked out with 25 out of those 30 I was extremely happy. We then ended up going to a second location of theirs but we ended up getting the rest of what we needed. Soooooooo darn HAPPY! Everyone that worked there was very courteous and helpful as well as we were trying to navigate through the store and find what we needed! So I want to say thank you to all the hard workers!!! You can find most of your grocery items here. It is convenient from my parents home which is a bonus. The store can be messy sometimes specially late at night and the lines can grow long, but it's not that bad. I keep having problems with this Food 4 Less. Staff are friendly and the place is generally clean. But time and time again, may of their products on display are expired. Twice, I've had to return meat products while in the middle of cooking due to bad or expired products. Just now, I'm cooking a pork product and our e tire house smells rancid. I've had to make it a custom to DILIGENTLY look at the expiration dates of EVERY product I buy. A typical Food 4 Less. Nothing special.Overall,not a bad place for grocery shopping. I stopped by at around 11 pm and it appeared to me that the store was checking out it's last few customers. Confused, I asked the security guy guarding the door if they were closed. He assured me they were open till midnight. The store was clean. It had reasonable prices. Well stocked. Other than the brief encounter with Security Guy, I didn't feel valued appreciated or welcomed. I found items in my list fairly easily. Checkout went smoothly. The checkout person was professional. Some what courteous, not really friendly but accurate. The restroom was ok but on need of a touch up. Which I'm sure they've attended to by now The food items I bought were fresh, of good quality and reasonably priced. Once I'm treated like family or or friend I may update and add a star. Over the years, some of my favorite independent grocery stores like Save-A-Lot have went out of business so I had no choice but to move on to one of the bigger retail chain grocery stores like Food 4 Less. Although I miss my old stores, the transition to Food 4 Less in National City has been pleasant. This store has received some negative reviews but I have never received bad service from the staff. The cashiers have always been friendly & I never have had any issues with parking. Of course I always park way in the back & not try to compete with others for the prime real estate near the front doors. I also avoid the busiest hours for shopping. The store is generally clean & well stocked & I feel that Food 4 Less offers competitive prices for their product. I really like the 59 cent prices on canned veggies & sometimes I score big time on meats like T-bone steak, bacon or bread products that are nearing the expiration date. By law they have to get those items off the shelf so they slash the prices in order not to lose money on the item by throwing it away. I clean house in the discount section & put the goodies in my freezer to be eaten another day. Food 4 Less also has regular sales on pork shoulder roast & pork chops which I buy in bulk when the price is 69 or 79 cents a pound. Sometimes they also have killer deals on pork & beef ribs as well. As stated by other reviewers, sometimes there is not enough cashiers for the amount of customers in the store which can get annoying. Also I think we got overcharged once or twice so my wife watches the cashier like a hawk while I am bagging groceries. Other than that I am happy with this store & will keep coming back! read more

I stopped shopping here a while back because they were rude and made excuses when they had a recall on Chobani yogurt and they failed to pull the recalled lot off their shelves. I finally decided to give them a second chance on 5/11/15 and tried to be as vigilant as possible when selecting my items. Unfortunately, I picked up a strawberry spread at the last minute. I was pleasantly surprised by this store. I came in to the National City store because I had the proceeds from an awful experience at the RE Planet store at the west end of the parking lot. The prices were much lower than I had anticipated, although, as other Yelpers have noted, it is best to check the shelf expiration date BEFORE buying anything here, not afterward. I found what I was looking for quite easily, since the layout of the store is rather logical. Food 4 Less is owned by Kroger, which becomes obvious when you notice the Kroger labels on many grocery items. By and large, I have found the Kroger label to signify good quality and good pricing. It's the in-house "generic" label for many nationally advertised brands. I don't need any help while grocery shopping, so I can't review the service staff here, with the exception of the checkout cashier, who was very efficient and pleasant. I will come back to this store, keeping in mind it is not a pricey, classy Kroger or Vons store. It's a store that specializes in low prices on good brands. It is therefore fairly basic. read more

First time I've been here since all this COVID19 bs started. They have someone at the entrance to wipe down your grocery cart. They have signs everywhere encouraging social distancing and even their check out lines are spaced out and marked on the floor. They are well stocked and this was on a Sunday around noon. This store is great, it has very low competitive prices, its just your basic grocery store with out all the frills. The reason for the low score is everything else. This place is way understaffed (a way to keep prices low) parking is horrible because you never have a person collecting carts so they are in the the parking spaces. The worst thing about this place is the horrific waits. Never have I seen more than 3 registers open, and thats with at least 10 people in each line. I like coming to Food 4 Less when I don't have a lot of grocery items to buy and I need general items. They have majority of food, produce, meat, and dairy items here, but it is more catered to a Hispanic population. If I'm looking for a certain brand of greek yogurt, am I going to find it here? Most likely not. Food 4 Less is a Kroger affiliate and a they have a lot of Kroger Value items that are significantly cheaper than the Kroger brand the other name brand items. The parking lot is big but can be dirty with trash... usually that's speaks more about the people of the neighborhood though. The prices are great and again, pretty much like any other Food-4-Less.
