Overall the store is clean and most of the employees are friendly & helpful. I definitely suggest using their app (or weekly ad) to save money as they are extremely proud of their merchandise. I swear, it took me half a year to find out there is a vons in SLO! This is located further in of San Luis Obispo, near a dollar store, styleforless and I believe a taco bell.. Stopped in for an ice cream run (Blue Bunny Banana Split mmmmmmm) - it was on sale for $3, which is a steal. I appreciate Vons/Safeway for the weekly sales, BOGO, and their deli deals, but it's hard to shop there for everything you need without getting ripped off on something - I think it's how they make everything back from the sales. Produce here is a total no-go - Food 4 Less all the way. Since I live up the street, I'll be back when I need more ice cream. Cashiers could be a little bit friendlier, and they would get 2 more stars if they had the self check-out option of some of the more up-to-date Vons/Safeways. The grocery store has a lot of selection and the produce is quite good. They have a nice meat selection as well as fish. It is great that they are open 24 hours a day. It's okay. A bit pricier than other grocery stores in SLO unless they are having a sale/newspaper coupons, but it's due to the superior products they have in stock. The produce lasts a week longer than what I have bought at food 4 less, but costs around 1.25-1.5x more. It's clean and organized pretty well. All the employees seem friendly and nice. I haven't tried anything and the other services other than plain ol' grocery shopping so I can't give much info on that. This Vons, overall, is nice. It doesn't do anything to really wow me, but it doesn't have or do anything that would make me complain(other than the prices) It meets my standards for grocery shopping and I generally don't mind shopping there, but to reiterate why I'm not rating it higher is due to the pricing (for 4 stars) and nothing that really wows me/leaves a lasting impression (5 stars). read more

Second time here 03/27/17 to buy an office plant on a whim after a stressful morning at work. I was assisted by a woman named Julie in their floral department. I had such a positive experience. Julie is very knowledgeable and offered all kinds of tips on how to care for the anthurium plant I had selected. She even took the time to water it and spray leaf shine on every leaf! Talk about great customer service! The store also has some of the best made chips/salsa/guacamole! Their deli offers a variety of hot and cold items such as fried chicken, potato wedges, and pasta salads to name a few. They also have a small seating section if you want to eat there. I received a gift card and needed to get wic items. One of the wic items didn't get substrated from my card which I didn't notice till I got home. I didn't see any wic tickets on the eggs so I took the cheapest ones I guess they didn't count. They should have the wic stickers displayed but I didn't see any. This store is very pricey! Quite disappointed with this store. Very long lines and the prices seem expensive vs. the competition...unless your shopping all organic which I'm trying to do more. I would not recommend this Vons but it is close for a lot of people and has a built in customer based from it's location to local neighborhoods. The deli is a joke and it's hard to get any help. I call it Safeway. It's all the same. Their produce quality is above average so I tend to buy most of my produce there. The prices are fair - it varies by location. The meat section ALWAYS smells so FOUL. I don't know what the hell is rotting away but every single time I have gone there it reeks of death. They need to fix that. I can't even concentrate on buying my meat there because I just want to leave. The fish always looks fresh, I've gotten tuna and salmon there for my sushi and it was superb. Love the savings you can get. I don't have complaints other than the foul smell from the meat section. read more

Worst Vons experience I've ever had. Needed to grab a few quick items, half the checkstands were closed and the ones that were open all had 5+ people in line. With all of the grocery stores closing we are getting fewer and fewer choices. That being said, I am glad for Vons to be here, as it's one of my choices! The craft beer selection at this location has only improved over the last few years and it's now, in comparison to other major grocery stores, fantastic. All beers are chilled, half cases, big bottles, singles, love it! The deli has great fresh fried chicken too. The produce selection is really good too, and includes some organic stuff, if you're into that. Flowers, Starbucks, pharmacy, pretty much a one stop shop. And they are open until 1am everyday. So helpful for those late night time ice cream runs. read more

So I done come up here, and I brought some of my dad's bomb ass salsa for the GF's family to partake in. We got to the part where we ran out of chips. Not cool. We drove our asses to the local Vons, and they had what we needed. I bought a "Family Size" bag of tortilla chips, and a few other things, and out the door we went. I believe this was on Thanksgiving "eve", the place was pretty dead, it was the afternoon, so they may have closed early--considering it's SLO town. Frankly, I only shop here because I have to. Vons here is very overpriced and the employees seem to lack motivation or enthusiasm. This is magnified in the deli department. I came here last friday to get some deli chicken, what a pain in the u know what. Barely any help and the customer service was horrible. The employees, without a doubt, did not want to be there, I'm guessing because it was $5 fridays and they had to actually work. This could be a great grocery store but currently sucks. read more

We love our Vons. It's about a mile away from our house and they are one of the few places and the only place close that sells prepared free range rotisserie chicken. It has an acceptable amount of organic vegetables, a great wine and beer selection, and very friendly helpful staff. If I had to complain it wouldn't be about the store or staff, it would be their customers. My wife and I are artists and at times run to the store in our paint clothes. We are by no means lower in class, yet we are just not pretentious. We can feel the air of entitlement when passing by some other customers and have received a few huffs as if we were in others way. Anyway love our store, it has great parking and is conveniently located near many other shops. Would love to see more organic options and more GMO free products. read more

Their online inventory is not current with what's in store. It lets you add an item to your cart that is not in the store. Then, when someone goes to actually find that item, it's non-existent - not even is there an empty shelf label. It defeats the purpose of online ordering. One would think you could call and ask if an item is on stock, but prepare to have your call dropped before you hear back. Vons' eggs & other dairy products are often bad. The deli has also made my family sick! When there is a power outage, you suddenly see eggs, milk, etc on sale. They shouldn't be selling dairy that's been in a warm room! It's dangerous!! We once bought 3 containers of their mashed potatoes in the deli section. You didn't even have to open the container to see that they looked like grits, all separated! Even the guy at the customer service desk looked shocked! This sure isn't Bill Davilla's Vons anymore. I used to shop at this store at least twice weekly, for like 10 years. But in the past few years the overall shopping experience at this store has gone way down, yet the prices have gone sky high. The most annoying to me is how they pack the aisle floors full of displays. There is not one aisle in the store where two people can pass each other for the entire length of the aisle. You have to stop at least three times in each aisle to let someone pass. I don't understand the purpose of clogging the aisle floors with stuff that can already be found on the shelves. This store is also noisy! The use of the store's intercom is excessive, and the intercom volume is LOUD! On Friday's they read the list of items that are on sale for $5.00 ("Five-Dollar Friday") over, and over, and over, and over on the intercom. Whenever someone calls the store via telephone, it's turned into an automated intercom announcement ("customer service has a phone call on line 201, deli has a phone call on line 202") and this goes on seemingly every ten minutes. During "breast cancer awareness" month, employees at the register announced on the intercom every time someone made a donation to breast cancer awareness - about every five minutes!! The intercom noise is so pervasive in this store, it makes me feel like I'm shopping on the NY stock exchange. The lunch meat counter has poor date rotation, and I am always finding something that expired two days ago. Check-out accuracy has become a real issue for me at this store. In the past two months, I have only shopped there three times - and all three times I had to go back because I was overcharged. Too many gimmicks!! Either put an item on sale OR DON'T!! Don't jerk me around by requiring me to buy 3, 5, or even 10 of something to get the sale price. The "everday" prices at Vons are horribly expensive. I can't afford to shop at this store, except to buy what's on sale. Now they want me to buy 3, 5, or 10 of something just to get the sale price. It's really sad, I used to enjoy shopping here. Now it has just become a noisy, annoying store with clogged aisles, high prices, and expired lunch meat. The store gets two stars for being clean, and having friendly staff. But my self-esteem is not that low, that I really want to endure all of this store's flaws because their employees pretend to be nice to me. This rating is for a DELI platter that we purchased for my daughter graduation party! It was gross! The roles were stale, the lunchmeat was scarce and wrong! The cheese was nasty American cheese! It was suppose to be a hoagie, but it was lies! We expected more than a thin slice of lower case meat and old tomatoes slices with old ragged lettuce... What? We didn't even notice until we opened it an hour later for the party! What an embarrassment! They should be ashamed of themselves!. We also purchased a cake from the BAKERY.... When we first ordered the cake the guy who took our order was not properly trained and they had to call us back to get the information for the cake and it was still wrong the second time around . THE MENU HAS CHANGED!! :( VONS Deli... it pains me to do this. Had I posted yesterday, I would've had COMPLETELY different things to say. I would like to start by saying how nice and helpful the staff is there. But today, I went in there and felt like I was 'Lost in Translation'. The menu and ordering system has changed considerably. Although most people probably weren't effected by this, I surely was. The top 3 awesome things that help put VONS Deli on the map for me were... 1: Build-Your-Own Sandwich from the ordering kiosk is now GONE! This feature made it so easy for me to whip in, order what I'm feelin at that moment, and send it on down the pike. Now, I can only order from the select sandwiches available, even though the sign at the counter says 'Create your own. Sandwich made your way". 2: No longer has whole wheat rolls. Those were by far the best available, both in taste and for the body. I really liked how it made a healthier choice more healthy. 3: (This one doesn't hit as hard) But the Pesto-roll is also no longer available. This was my 2nd choice and sometimes swing-choice for bread here. I went in today and literally felt lost... The ladies at the deli were so nice about it and understanding, and helped a grown man order a sandwich. (lol) VONS... I will not stop shopping with you... but I gotta honestly say I will order far fewer sandwiches from the deli. I'm really not a fan of these recent changes, and I have a feeling I'm not alone. They even took down the threes a crowd signs because they never have enough checkers. Ugh. I avoid this store as much as possible due to the shortage of checkers. Consider this a 1.5 star review, but you can't do half stars. I'm rounding up because the pro's slightly outweigh the cons. Here's the good and bad... Pros: -Decent selection of organic produce (and non-organic produce) - mind boggling amounts of produce, actually, which is great. Produce staff is AMAZING. So nice. - Awesome selection of bagged salads, pre-cut fruit, etc. 5 stars on that. - Good selection of bread, dairy and general produce. Some items I wish they carried, but that's to be expected and I'm sure the managers might take suggestions if they had time to carry on more than a 10 second conversation (see cons below) - Bakery: Cakes are really delicious. Like incredible. There is one with a chocolate ganache frosting that is the best. Plus they have good single-serve desserts like cake slices, bread pudding, etc. I wish they had a cookie/brownie bar like Whole Foods for single-cookie purchases and a better bagel selection but it's not a deal breaker. - Great floral and gift selection for a grocery store. Good succulents. Balloon help is A++. - Has a Starbucks, great pharmacy, and Wells Fargo. They also have a dry cleaner which I haven't used but it's kind of a nice thing if you wanted one, I guess. - Breakfast burritos (not five star ones but whatevs, it's convenient)... - Rotisserie chicken selection always good. Cons: - Prices are higher (wait for sales because they can be good) - LINES and the WAIT to be helped!!! Jesus Christ, they need to hire more checkers, bakery staff and deli people. The wait at the deli is unacceptable every time I go. The lines at checkout are regularly 4 people deep with multiple lanes unmanned. SCHEDULE MORE STAFF!! Or put in self-checkout lanes for people with only a few things. - Baggers really need to be trained. I called today because yesterday two loaves of bread and a bag of what were firm grapes (now not firm) got crushed as well as a bag of 4 avocados that were so smashed, the skin was broken and I had a bag of guac instead of avocados. Plus my egg carton was UPSIDE DOWN in the bag. They need way more training. This has happened here before - I have gotten peaches/nectarines smashed, too as well as loaves of bread crushed on the regular. Basic training is needed here desperately. Heavy shit on the bottom. Ugh. - Managers are too rushed to listen attentively or give a crap beyond saying a script about refunding money. I don't want money back but I would like to see someone who had time to process what I was saying and take some initiative. See my note about being understaffed. - Meat department is a f-in fiasco. I have purchased expired deli meat (like lunch meat) and packaged sausages more than once, so now I check every.single.time. I have found expired meat, chicken, steaks, hamburger, etc. on the shelves more times than I would like to even think about (and I took it to the meat dept person). It's so unacceptable to me that no one is going through the products to throw out expired stuff and check dates. Again, probably understaffed. Bottom line: with the prices at this store, and the enormous volume, you'd think they could afford to put more workers on the schedule and train the baggers better. Come on, Vons. Can I just start with, I love this Vons. It's always stocked, always great service and always clean! In addition to all the goodness of a grocery store this store has an amazing selection and always has great deals for their club card members and using the justforyou app as well. It really does save a ton of money! I also thoroughly enjoy and take advantage of their ready meals made that week by their wonderful deli and catering section. Their deli section has great fried chicken meals under $10, and their sandwiches are really great as well and after 7, you get the 8th free! This particular location also has a Wells Fargo, and a Starbucks and has a huge flower section and big customer service desk with dry cleaning too! They sell money orders, stamps and even have rolls of quarters if you're like me and need them for laundry. With a store like this, it really is a one stop shop for all your errands. Let's just start with, oh boi, those LP at vons are quite zealous.(sarcasm) Once upon a time about 6 years ago, I went up to customer service bought two things and walked out. Mabey my walk is too brisk, mabey I look like Lindsey Lohan during her episode. IDK, but LP decides to put the 211 code on as I walk out. Yes the 211 code. This happens the next time I walk in there. I buy something at the regular checkout this time and do that brisk walk to the bathroom because, omg I had too much coffee, and my bowels will fall out if I do not make this in time. Guess what happens? Oh yeah, 211 code over the intercom. This goes on over and over for a casual 5 years. At one point during the this period I had enough, so I talked to management. He told me "Oh no, that could not happen. We don't use the code 211." Hmm that's strange cause you've used it hundreds of times. About 6 months later I sent VONS LP an email. They denied it as well. Unfortunately, today was the straw that broke my back. I bought a premade Starbucks from the Starbucks store inside.After BUYING my item, I turn towards the BATHROOM and go in that direction with a brisk walk. (I fucking wonder why) Next thing I hear is that real catchy 211 jingle. No I never made it to the bathroom. I guess I can't just use the bathroom even though your glad to take my money? Cool that's how you treat people who contribute to your fucking paycheck. Just a quick tip for VONS LP: You can continue to harrass people in this area. But keep in mind, this a more affluent& gentrifying community. One day, someone's aunt in Orange County will hear about it and she'll foot the lawyer bill. I really appreciate the nice people who are just doing their best to earn a living in scary times. That said, the groceries were more than an hour outside the delivery window. The window was 6pm-8pm, I got a receipt when they shopped - at 7:17 - and at about 9:05 they were delivered. As 8pm neared, I tried the customer service to check on an estimated time of delivery - but it wasn't an app - it was an email to a nice person who had no control or real information about where my order was. Overall, it was frustrating and inconvenient experience, but the groceries did arrive in good shape - except one very bruised cantaloupe. I wish I'd been able to tip online, I'd have liked to tip the driver, that's a tough gig - but the driver was gone by the time we got to the door. Fantastic deal!! We bought the fried chicken today what a deal....8 pieces for $5.99 with your Vons card. I waited a while in line as this was the lunch hour, then I ordered my chicken. When I got home and opened the package the chicken looked old and dried out and even smelled old. We were hungry so we ate. It even tasted old. We were very disappointed. The last time we bought the chicken deal we received very fresh chicken that was very tasty. I don't know why they would sell old chicken to their valued customers. Very disappointed. read more
