I've been shopping here for over two years, and this review is long overdue. My biggest complaint in the past was the lack of cell service due to the store being located in the basement. It was frustrating not being able to text or call my wife to check what we already had in the fridge, which often led to overbuying--though that's never really a problem at TJ's since everything is so delicious. The great news is that they now have Wi-Fi, which is a total game changer for this location! I'm a huge fan of their sheet cakes; I always pick one up to share with my co-workers. Trader Joe's consistently delivers quality products, and on the rare occasion I've had an item go bad before opening, the staff has been incredibly helpful and happy to exchange it. The team here is friendly, efficient, and always provides a great shopping experience.

I was there as a haircare product demonstrator to give out samples and take a count of some of the products there. They refused to give me a table. My product was close to the bottom shelf, which I counted, dusted, and then typed up a report on my phone for my business. They kindly reported me to my company for texting on my phone and sitting in the aisle. What, they expected me to kneel or lay on the floor? There were almost no customers, so you would think they had their own restocking to do instead of monitoring what I was doing. Plus it was super-dusty. I guess those bishes didn't dust? What absolute bishes. Maybe it was because smartphones were newish in 2011? I had just been at Erewhons and they were all supernice to me there. The contrast was glaring. While this was in 2011, it left a very bad taste in my mouth, so I can't support their business when they treat visitors so poorly. I probably should have immediately complained to management. So here I am complaining to Yelp 15 years later. But seriously, anywhere I go as a demonstrator, I am also a potential customer for lunch, groceries, or whatnot. So I guess it's Erewhons and Whole Foods for me.

They work hard and are tired but have always been professional. I try to make sure that, if I can have one of them help me at the register, I do so. Parking: If you have an SUV and the lot is full, just leave, honestly please your car won't fit into the spots because people don't know how to properly park. I saw an elderly lady crash into another lady's car. They were in a full-blown argument. People will just back out into your car while pulling out and are not even paying attention. There is very limited parking spots because people park and then go to the beach or into the permitted residential area because there's no parking there. The illegal parking isn't enforced. There's also people living out of their cars. Prices: This place is expensive. Check your receipt before you leave. Lines and customers: Sometimes the line is long and sometimes it's not. Customers are mostly very understanding and they work together to speed it up. Inside the store the customers are polite. Outside the store it's way different. I had one man mocking me and harassing me because I wouldn't do what he wanted. I was pushing a heavy shopping cart and he was stopped, wanting me to cross in front of his car for no reason. When I signalled and told him to just keep driving, he started mocking me. Very odd. At night it's like the walking dead zombies. They do have a security guard but be careful in the parking lot. There is a man who wears all black and is unhoused/homeless outside. He hides between cars and will come out of nowhere like a shadow. There's nothing anyone can do about it, so be armed if he comes at you. I had to go running to my car and lock myself in with my groceries still in the shopping cart until he wandered away. This is around 9ish when they come out. I've been going here a decade. Never seen it this bad. I hope they open more self-checkout stations and tell some of these cashiers to seek mental health help. It's a stressful job, but take it up with management or the company don't take it out on the customer.

This neighborhood grocery store on Montana Ave in Santa Monica is a fine place for a freshly made…read moresandwich or cooked items in their deli case. They've got a nice butcher section with fresh meat and seafood. There's a deli case with close to 20 items -- ribs, chicken, lasagna, mac 'n cheese, soup and more, depending on the day. They've got about a dozen salads, including three potato salads, and about as many deli meats for sandwiches. The beef stew was excellent, the lasagna, chili and meatloaf also very good. The sandwiches are solid and very reasonably priced. Two things stand out for me here: their weekend barbecue and the tamales. Someone in their kitchen makes delicious Oaxacan tamales (which are not always available). These tamales are chock full of chicken mole -- perhaps the highest ratio of filling to masa that I've had -- and are neatly wrapped in banana leaves. The burritos are similarly pre-made and stuffed to the gills with the protein of the day. As for the weekend barbecue, every Saturday and Sunday morning they grill select meats from the deli (prime steaks, tri tip, chicken, etc) which you can buy throughout the day at the deli. The Farms also has fresh vegetables, premade salads and all the other items you'd expect from a neighborhood grocery store. Service is super friendly, and there's free parking in back. It's definitely a good spot for a meal to go.

Attention service desk: Two, Zero, Zero" I hate Vons/Pavilions, ALL OF THEM, for this annoying message your hear CONSTANTLY on their loudspeaker: "Attention service desk: Two, Zero, Zero". This is a message to the service desk (the butcher or the baker or the florist) that someone is on the phone. But why do they have to announce it? Why can't they transfer the call to the right department and the phone will ring there (they do have a phone otherwise that message will not make sense). If they are available, and they should be available, they answer and if they are not available for some reason (they are in the bathroom or they are serving a client) then the phone will ring until someone answer or the caller decide to hang up. But at least they won't annoy the entire store! Hey Vons! You are annoying all the customers in your store just because some jerk sitting at home in his underwear wants to ask a question, which I'm sure is a stupid question. Why do they have to drag all their customers to the fact that someone made a phone call to the store? It happened to me more than once that I left the store because of this. "Attention service desk: Two, Zero, Zero". Every 30 seconds? Attention service desk: Two, Zero, Zero"....Attention service desk: Two, Zero, Zero". And why don't they answer? What are they doing? Each time I look the employees are at the bakery, are at butcher. The flowers I don't know, but if there's little traffic there, then remove the phone. Sometimes I'm in the store and I will buy only the one or two items I wanted and get the hell out, instead of staying and saying to myself since I'm already here I might as well buy also this and that, but because of the annoying, irritating environment I don't! I just buy what I wanted and get the hell out. And sometimes as I said I leave the store without buying anything. I go to Ralph where they don't do this annoying thing. Vons/Pavilions is not the only store in the city. And Ralphs outnumber them ten to one. There are very few Vons/Pavilions. One in West Hollywood, One in Beverly Hills, One or two in Culver City (Sepulveda and Jefferson) and one in Santa Monica. That's it. For the West side. But in these areas there's plenty of Ralph. There's three on olympic alone. There are several on Wilshire there's one in Westwood, One or two in Culver City. Just google "Ralph Los Angeles" and compare with "Vons/Pavilions in Los Angeles" and see for yourself. So leaving a Vons/Pavilions to go to another supermarket is easy. I told a friend that I left the store without buying anything because of their annoying "Attention service desk: Two, Zero, Zero" and she said "Oh, I did that too!" "You did?" "Yeah this is super annoying. And it doesn't stop!" "I know it's going on and on." Another friend told me that he knows two people who feel the exact same way. And I see on the Web that many people are asking what the hell is that Attention service desk: Two, Zero, Zero". For the life of me I can't understand why Safeway/Vons/Pavilions will do such a thing; they try, as all business do, to satisfy their customers not chasing them away. This is ridiculous! Who is in charge? Perhaps they should ask themselves why so many Vons stores closed. I understand mergers and closing stores that are not profitable but ask yourself why is it not profitable? Why are people not coming to your store but goes to other stores? I am not aware of Ralphs stores closing or if they did, it just a few. Vons on the other hand closed left and right. There is no reason to go to a Vons/Pavilion. Therefore I am starting a boycott of all their stores. read more

I can't believe the way that management treated me there today... I have been going to this Vons since last October, with my backpack and some other forms of equipment. I am a Technology Consultant, and I walk from client to client, passing by this store most every week. Today, I was harassed by a security guard, then a cashier, then a "manager"... I was not allowed to take my backpack in there! I explained to them that I would only be going to Deli to order a sandwich. They said that I had to leave my bag at Customer Service. I walked over to the CS counter, and I asked the guy there if he had any place I could put this. He said no, and they are not responsible for any personal items in any way. I made it a point to mention that I am a consultant, traveling on foot from site to site. I was wearing the company shirt, etc. I had an external hard disk from a client in one hand, and a client binder in the other. The CS guy asked a manager, and I put this in quotes above, because he couldn't manage his IBS, let alone the front desk. Long story short, he says to me... Who brings a bag into a store anyway? I was getting really agitated with him and told him to look around... every woman has a bag, no? I tried to explain that I have sensitive client information that cannot be left unattended, and he turned his back to me. I threw the free sandwich coupon I had at him, and told him to eat it. Absolutely disgusting store. This place is an embarrassment and should be shut down. A dozen or more homeless junkies sleeping in the parking lot at all times harassing customers. What's worse is they go in the store barefoot, smelling like last Month's garbage, covered in dirt and bacteria, and they pick up and fondle all the fruit and vegetables, them put them back down for you to buy and get get their food poisoning. It's absolutely gross. They also constantly shoplift left and right because Vons is too cheap to hire real security. So they just pass the cost of stolen items on to their customers. They keep the place freezing cold - hoping it will keep the homeless crackheads from staying too long - but it only makes it even more of a horrible experience for paying customers. There's only 2-3 checkout aisles open - with no baggers. It takes forever to get out of there - forget about buying ice cream unless you want rocky road soup. Whoever is managing this place is an absolute, incompetent fool. The health department should shut this place down ! At least they should investigate to see what's happening there with disgusting junkies spreading around their bacteria in there. Love my local Vons. Whats not to love about a store that stays open 24hrs and is in walking distance, it one of the reasons that makes this area tolerable. Overall, the selction and variety for most iteams are pretty good the same goes for the produce. The highlight foodwize is the deli and sushi section, the ladies who make the sushi are friendly and helpful. The various deli salads are delicous and always taste fresh, the only down side is they change the selection frequently, which means if love something one day it may not be there the next. I may be bias in regards to the customer service since I've been going there for 10 yrs but I find most of the cashiers and workers friendly and always egar to assist, even if some don't readily smile I have yet to get anything close to attitudes from any employee I've delt with there. Because of these reasons I will continue to go to Vons instead of Jons which is the same distance from my place. read more

There are tons of SCATHING reviews about this Vons, spanning over several years & Vons does NOTHING to improve things. Essentially, Vons is telling its customers: WE DON'T GIVE A FLYING FUCK. This is where we're at now in corporate America. These big corporations simply don't give a shit. There was a time when businesses put the customer first & bent over backwards to please even the most difficult of customers. Clearly, those days are long over. The only spot in the neighborhoods that doesn't mind homeless people getting high, drinking, and pan handling RIGHT ON STORE PROPERTY! Manager has been called over and over but he has failed to even attempt to get rid of the problem. No place else in the neighborhood welcomes the kind of activity cons does. To make it worse they leave trash, including human excrement behind. VONS CORPORATE PLEASE FORCE THEM TO TAKE ACTION TO STOP THE CONSTANT PANHANDLING AND HARASSMENT... I find this Pharmacy either 5 stars or 1 star, depending on who is working.. so I settled on 3 stars. I cant remember her name, but the short haired brunette is laid back, funny, always remembers my name and is super poliet and fast. Everyone else is slow and rude. I pick up my perscriptions about 1-2 times a month and 50% of the time I leave happier then I came in, the other half, I wait and wait and am much less happy when I leave. Also they are right next to the fridge with all the juice so its freakin cold. If I could learn that one ladies schedule, I woudl say this is a 5 start pharmecy.. so maybe thats the next step? read more

Hello, I'm here for 6 months so I need to find a cheap and near supermarket and I found it 7 min by foot from my apartment. You can find food from different country's and prices are reasonable if you are club member. I am impressed by the prices of some products in the good and the bad way and they have a lot of promotions. The downside of Vons is in the rush hour. You must wait a long time to pay for yours items, i suggest you go at 3 PM because i don't like spend my time into the queue. I really suggest you to be a club member and go before 7 PM. This local supermarket place is always clean and neat. Always easy to find things with a wide variety of groceries. A few times a year they have great sales on their wine and I stock up until the next sale. If you buy 6 bottles the prices ends up being better than trader joes! There is also a Starbucks inside the store for your caffeine fix. I am taking a star away because the lines always seem to be so long here. Sure you can go to self checkout but that is only if you have a few items and no alcohol . Overall a good place to get plenty of your essentials of groceries. read more

Great place to be if you want to find yourself as a witness to a robbery! Everyday there's massive theft, with a whole host of questionable characters hanging outside and taking turns to run in and grab as much alcohol as they can fit under their jackets. Security just smiles and does nothing. Where to they hire their Security from - arraignment court, having pled and released? On the positive side, store is stocking new and healthier products, though prices are not as low as Von's outside of Santa Monica. I only risk my life for their lowest Rx costs. read more

I used to shop at this Von's every Sunday morning until my son and I were threatened by a crazy homeless guy. He wanted to fight me in the store! I wrote a letter to the Corporate Office and did not get a response (not even a form letter). Since then, the crazy homeless and criminals from the Expo Line have taken over this store. Stay away. I think that Aston is one of the best employee at Von's - so helpful and courteous. Alex, the meat department manager is incredibly knowledgeable about all of the cuts of meat and even suggests some great recipes! The store could use a little updating, but the employees work very hard in that store, and are always helpful when I need it. read more

Yay...SO, on my way home I decided to come here. Ever since my local Whole Foods closed, I have not ventured over to the Venice behemoth store!!! It's a bit overwhelmingly ginormous! My NYC bff sent me a get well gift card yesterday, so my purpose was to pick up Pico's favorite doggie treats. Ofc, I spent the entire gift card $ on some delicious items to help me completely get over this flu which has lasted almost 10 days! OF COURSE I MASKED... hellooo I am doing so much better but still not much of an appetite. TIP: THIS FLU HAS BEEN ROUGH ON ALL PEOPLE OF ALL AGES... please take care of yourself. I did get a flu shot this year but the new strain is long lasting... I wore a super protective mask that fit snugly over my face even though I was told I couldn't spread it to anyone! Better to safe than sorry! Afterall, we are in this world together!!! Some good sales, but a complete and well deserved gift to myself!

I noticed they have security in all areas of the store. Just be vigilant, if you're gonna be using their restrooms, I had a weird interaction in there with a lady. The grocery store is as expected for Whole Foods for their selection items, hot foods, prepared foods, juice bar/cafe. Parking is always packed. It's not a great location but if you're just in need of your groceries it's still a good place to go.

When older, I got Boonsfarm Apple Wine. The owners knew all of us. Four sisters and countless friends, some on skateboards, some on bikes, could be seen there. The Stop sign in front had peace sign stickers on it. The last time I saw my father was a sunny June day when he and I walked there to get one beer and an RC cola in a bottle. It was deliciously cold. The 1960's were eventful years for us. This tiny store was our fun store, a meeting stop, a tiny oasis growing up. With all of the enourmas changes in OP/Santa Monica I'm so glad to see it's still there.
