I finally decided to try this place when I drive by on a early Sunday evening and it didn't look busy. They have everything from basic cake and raised doughnuts to very creative came and raised. Something for everyone! I can see why they are very popular and a good tourist stop! Prices are right for whatever you order. A basic chocolate old fashioned cake was less than a dollar, cheaper than Winchell's. A cake doughnut with a bunch of M&M's was just over $3. Line for a Monday early afternoon was not too long but did take a while to move even with 3 cashiers to serve the customers. So many choices can make the decision process take too long. My husband went with some simple donuts, old fashioned maple and chocolate cake frosted. He said for all the over the top donuts they needed to get the basics not only right but be the best. He didn't seem disappointed in the least. I had a vegan PB&J donut. Tasted just like I was having a sandwich, not like a sugary donut. I had high expectations for this place after hearing about it for years, so it was the first place to stop on my list when we drove through Denver. I was severely disappointed. First off, my online order was wrong. I got more doughnuts than i asked for of basic flavors when i paid for different options ( basic glazed when i asked for old fashioned style and a specialty one). But the one we liked that we actually asked for and got was the blueberry cake doughnut, perfectly sweet and there was no super fake blueberry flavor. I don't usually have to check for a doughnut order to be correct, and no one else was in the store at the time so it wasn't busy. the PB and Oreo one was ok but the doughnut itself wasn't good to me. The test for a doughnut shop is a glazed donut. It is the basic and is a good standard to compare all the donut shops. This place has a top notch glazed doughnut. Unbeatable! Highly recommend. This is such a cute donut shop! We couldn't leave Denver without checking it out as I've seen it in a few "must-visit' lists and TV shows. I loved that the whole shop is painted pink and the decor inside was really cool. There was a line when we arrived but thankfully it moved quick. They have dividers in place indicating it can get pretty busy. I only had the chance to try the famous Voodoo doll donut which was delicious! It tasted very fresh and the raspberry filling was everything. I think it was about $4 in total. They have a good variety of donuts in display, I just wish they had an actual menu of the flavors in the store. They do have one online though so make sure to look through it before your visit. I want to give this place a five because the product tastes so amazing. I had it for the first time while undergoing cancer treatment and a nurse got these for me and after that I was hooked. The only reason I have to ding this place is the " homeless veteran" out front asking for money while he sits on his cell phone on Bluetooth. When my wife and I visited here, we were surprised that it was cash only, in this day and age it's hard to believe shops don't have a card terminal!? I have always gotten Voodoo Doughnuts through co workers who have brought them in but this was my first time in the store. I wanted to support the US Nordic Team while they were at the olympics and the Bavarian cream doughnut I got did not disappoint. The store only accepts cash which makes things a little hard but because it's a chain I am assuming this was part of their business plan to price their doughnuts accordingly. But if you do happen to get a box to go you might want to bring more than $20 unless you get more traditional doughnuts. I've been told awesome things about the Portland store, so I had to come check this one out. I was initially very overwhelmed by the revolving glass case of doughnuts. I panicked and got the Oreo doughnut. (I do the same thing at new ice cream places. I panic and pick Oreo.) I was happy they used real Oreos! On my second trip, I got the Colfax Cream, which was delicious. I liked how much cream was in it. It definitely was heavy. I had a vegan Boston Creme (I'm not even vegan, I chose it because I figured if I was here, I might as well choose something I wouldn't get anywhere else). It was extremely good. Their whole brand is based on In terms of customer service, yeah, it's lacking. Indifferent cashiers, shirts with "VD" puns for purchase, loud rock music (old school Korn was playing when I was there; kind of nostalgic, really). I think it's part of their whole ~edgy~ schtick. The line is long, it doesn't move overly quickly, and it's cash only. Get over it. There are plenty of signs. Once you get to the front of the line, you are greeted with a rotating display case of donuts. If I could actually fit into that display case, give me 7 minutes and I'll show you magic. I usually get the Oreo donut that's stuffed with buttercream. Why people get donuts that don't get stuffed with cream are beyond me. We came on a Monday night around 10pm, and the line was actually decent. I hear it's usually out the door, and we were able to stand inside. The cash only policy is interesting, but at least they have an ATM onsite. The line moved quickly, the employees were helpful and I enjoyed the vibes and merchandise. We ordered the variety box, that was around $37 to get the best of the best! A few of the donuts with cereal toppings tasted a bit stale, but other than that they were all delicious! They definitely lived up to the aesthetic hype, and are great for that 'gram life but don't taste like anything special. I do love the postcards I picked out, and am keeping them for myself. I'm content with my overall experience, but probably won't drive across town and wait in line again next time I'm in town... but then again dat pic got sooo maany LIKES! So if you're a crazy photographer, have at it! But if you're a foodie, go for the experience but don't expect any crazy quality in taste. I've been meaning to check out the Voodoo Doughnuts back in Miami, but I'm glad that I got to experience their yummy-ness firsthand in Denver instead! They have the most interesting options and each donut had their own distinctive texture and taste. We ended up ordering an Oreo, Mango Tango, Butterfinger, and a Cinnamon Sugar donut. If you're into the cakey texture of donuts, I would highly recommend the Butterfinger and Cinnamon Sugar donut. The dough is on the denser side and crumbles the way a cake would. The Mango Tango was AMAZING. I personally like donuts with some fruity filling and this donut did not disappoint. The mango frosting on top of the donut was even a bit on the sour side which went really well with the fruity mango filling. 10/10 recommend. The Oreo donut was honestly just like any other donut, but it was practically the size of my head and had a substantial amount of Oreo bits on top. So I can definitely say I was satisfied. I went here on a Saturday afternoon right before dinner and it was packed. There was a long line all the way outside. Per my friend's recommendation, I had high expectations and was expecting something unique but unfortunately, the hype did not live up to reality. So, I bought two doughnuts, the Oreo doughnut and the Mexican dark chocolate doughnut. Both were okay at best and were just full of sugar. It was nothing extraordinary and was definitely not worth the drive or wait. Overall, the popularity of this place is really hype and I would suggest visiting this place only if you have spare time. I knew they had "vegan option" but was not sure if there would be more than 1 or 2 flavors. No, they have like 12 different doughnuts that are vegan and they all looked delicious. We got the Boston Cream and it was soooo delicious. We live in the mountains and I woke up and immediately regretted not just buying a dozen doughnuts to bring home. Next time!
