OH MY GOD WE HAD APPETIZERS. We didn't expect much of a wait on Sunday afternoon... but we got to stand around for about 40 minutes. This is not a complaint, because I was willing to do it: it is worth it. I don't wait 40 minutes to eat ANYWHERE... except the Vortex, apparently. I had my heart set on finally trying the fried pickles. But they were out. Despite this, I still received a dill pickle longer than the average man's penis with my sandwich... so I guess they ran out of pre-packaged stuff? That made me sad. But instead we got onion rings, and they were the best onion rings I ever had. We also had the cheesy cheddar balls, and ohhh my goodness. Cheese is my weakness (as if my preference for queso-covered Mexican food weren't indicative of that). The big blue buffalo burger that I had was much more to my taste than the cajun and blue cheese I tried last time. I could taste the buffalo sauce, and the blue cheese was a really good compliment to it. Appetizers and the burger and the tots expanded my meat stomach so much that my dessert stomach was grossly contorted into the approximate shape and size of a peanut. What kind of place requires an ID to put your name on the waiting list? Came here for lunch today and were asked to see ID's. I told the hostess we were only eating lunch and not drinking and she insisted we still needed ids. My car was parked a few blocks away and offered to go back and get before we were seated during our 45 minute wait. The girl at the front insisted I have an ID in hand in order for her to put my name on the wait list NO EXCEPTIONS! Vortex Bar & Grill had everything I was looking for: hot, tattooed waitresses; cold, locally-brewed beers; & delicious hamburgers. As a first time customer, I went with the basic...the Vortex Burger. I added bacon because it's f***ing bacon! The burger was delicious and not dripping in grease and oil like some competitor's burgers who will go unmentioned YUMMMM!!!). The beer was exceptional and an excellent beverage to accompany the delicious meat festival that was the burger. My colleague had the Fat Elvis, which looked exceptional. I never thought of peanut butter and fried plantains on a burger, but it seemed to work. I'll be back soon and I'll bring more friends. Come early because the place gets packed. Go for the coronary bypass burgers if you don't have any plans for the day that require you to be away from your home throne. Service is always good and take note that they have their own Parking spots if you're just eating there so don't get tricked into paying to park until you check the spots they have against their building. So for the longest time I've always heard how vortex had a reputation of having really amazing burgers as well as other foods. So finally yesterday was my first time eating there. Upon arriving the parking lot was tiny but we came at a reasonable time and had a good parking spot. When we got in first view is the decorated walls all cluttered but organized at the same time. And you pretty much sit yourself on a slow day. There was no waiting list. We ordered the fried pickles, classic ole vortex burger and I got the mad horsemen. And also a ATLien from the bar. The portions are huge I had trouble taking bites but it was juicy and the horse radish sauce on my horsemen burger worked so well! I was skeptical at first cause I don't normal like horse radish but wanted to try it anyways. The potato salad I got as my side was a little too creamy almost like cream cheese It was good for a few bites but nothing I could finish. The ATLien I thought would be sour but tasted more sweet like a candy drink but was also good. Overall my first experience was good. I wouldn't say vortex burgers are the best burgers in Atlanta but they do hold a title of being a good burger. I was glad we didn't come on the weekend I heard how hectic this little burger joint can get with waits and parking! So be safe and save your cravings for a slow Tuesday afternoon. First it was more like a 3.5. I was seated quickly, Waiter was nice kinda sorta attentive, but he did have a big section. I got the classic coronary my friend got the Lone Star Tex she enjoyed hers. I though my burger was dry and didn't have much seasoning. I asked for it med-well, but got well...the burger wasn't bad just would have been a lot better had it been cooked the med-well. My sister in laws sister and I wanted to explore the area, so we drove down to Little 5 Points to go shopping. I loooove Little 5 Points, it reminded me EXACTLY of 4th Avenue in my hometown of Tucson, Arizona. Very bohemian with cute boutiques and tons of bars. We walked around for a bit until we started getting a rumbly in our tumbly. We were immediately drawn to Vortex because of the giant zombie skull they have outside of the place. Not really knowing what to expect, since we were both out-of-towners, we ordered a couple of burgers with fries. While waiting for our food, we pointed out the cool decor that made up Vortex, slightly grungy-goth with a tad of biker, and I loved it! Figuring that I got the plain and boring burger, there wasn't going to be much to write home about this meal but I remained optimistic. OMG I was SO impressed. The plate of food was HUGE, the burger was cooked perfectly and was deliciously tender, and the fries were out of this world! Now I understand what all the huss and fuss was about this place! A friend end recommended this restaurant after we met at the neighboring coffee shop. They definitely get busy later in the afternoon but they do have seating upstairs. Tables are available on a first come seat yourself based. They have a lengthy beer list with sandwiches and great burger options. I decided to be basic and just get a cheese burger with a few additional options. The burger was amazing and not one bit dry. The fries look plain but are salted/seasoning with a great blend that don't come across as salted. My food also came out really fast despite the restaurant being pretty full. Oh how I love grabbing a few brews, and a burger at the vortex. The vortex is no stranger, to the local carnivores of Atlanta. The burgers are pretty darn good, and fairly priced for what you get. I do warn you, that you will be faced with a pretty long wait if you go during a weekend so be prepared. The only reason I didnt give a 5 star this time around, is because service is extremely slow during busy hours. Takes forever for food to make it out the kitchen. Finally got to eat a famous Vortex burger. It was a quality burger. I ordered the Tasmanian Devil burger with fried plantains. The burger was good but I would order something else next time, maybe the Spanish fly (I was the only one at the table that didn't order it). Plantains were great! Perfect. I'd gone to the Midtown location previously. This one is every bit as delicious, but the big crazy skull in the front is what the Vortex is known for, a definitely must for visitors of Atlanta. The surrounding area is a bit more "interesting" compared to the Midtown location. I had a few semi-vegetarians in the group, so I was pleased to find out that they can substitute a black bean patty for any of their burgers. I had the Lone Star Tex Melt this time, and omg my tummy was so full ugh. Definitely yummy, but artery-clogging at the same time (but what yummy thing is healthy?!) so can't come here too often ;). We were on the hunt for best burger in Atlanta. We also likened this place to our fave burger spot in Orlando (Oblivion Taproom - go there!) so the BF tried using this menu to recreate what he gets there. We started off with some beers. The Cherry Street Coconut Porter is out of this world good. I don't know what the BF got because I was so totally focused on my beer. For food we got - the Rebel Outlaw (add onion rings, sauce on the side) with a side of tots and hot sauce and bleu cheese for dipping. We also got a Bleu 'shroom fried chicken sandwich (add sauteed onions) with waffle sweet fries and marshmallow goo. I wanted grilled chicken but, alas, they ran out. The verdict - it was all delicious! I thought adding hot sauce to the Bleu 'shroom would make it even better but it didn't. That bleu cheese spread is just really tasty on its own without extra sauces. The BF really enjoyed his burger. He said it was cooked well and had good flavor. The hot sauce and Bleu cheese dressing are also both very delicious. Our server, Ariel, was friendly and helpful. The restaurant itself is fun. It was a total win for us. read more

The main bar/grill part was super loud and packed together, I could barely hear myself think--it honestly gave me a little anxiety. My date was concerned. Thankfully when we got our table, we were led to the attached upstairs area that was more calm. The food here was good. Nothing to write home about, but it had plenty of flavor and was worth the price, which was fair. I will say, it was very messy, though, as all good burgers usually are. I told the bartender (brunette, heavy set Caucasian woman with her hair pulled back in a ponytail) -describing only because I didn't get her name- I wanted an impossible burger. I observed her serve every other person at the bar with patience and kindness. (Blonde hair pulled back in a pony tail) She keeps trying to not serve my friend & I. But it's only her and 1 other employee at the bar. I choose to be patient. She comes back, I tell her the order of 2 burgers then ask, "do you have a sweet and spicy sauce for dipping? She sighs, "we have a lot of sauces" I respond like what? Do you have a sweet chili sauce? "She says we have smoky bbq and some other sauce then she says WHAT DO YOU WANT??? I ask kindly, can you mix some sriracha and honey togeth...before I can finish my sentence she rolls her eyes at me and walks away....to type in the order that was not even finished... I was literally about to say "if that is too much just a side of sriracha & honey separately?" I didn't realize asking about sauce was such a bother...the entire time she spoke to me she acted as if she was aggravated and didn't want to speak to me. She did not talk to anyone else at the bar this way. Instead of responding to her rudeness during this sensitive time, I decided to leave. I understand Vortex's theme is unfiltered and raw but I've never experienced this from their employees and I've dined with them many many times. Maybe the employees are too tired to be kind paying customers. Unsure. But prejudice treatment will not keep your doors open. Please little 5 points management address this. Yes I said PREJUDICE. My best friend came down to visit. She had looked up popular places to eat and this place was on there. The place was cleverly decorated. I loved all the little signs and decorations everywhere. There was not one dull wall. The menu was so funny to read (it took us a minute to order something because we were laughing at everything we were reading). The only thing I would have to say about the place was that it seemed a little small. Would have been nice if there was more room. Our waitress was nice and offered suggestions which were helpful. If I had to pick one restaurant to stop at in Atlanta every time I passed through, The Vortex would win EVERY TIME. My wife (her first trip!) and I swung by during our latest trip and it was just like I remembered it: awesome. After we walked through that beautiful skull, we were seated right away and brought some waters. The Vortex has an impressive amount of brews to pick from, both on draft and bottled, but since we had been brewery hopping all day, we decided to hydrate instead. Like most people, we came for the burgers and after a lot of deliberating (most of them sounded great), we chose the Ka'man Wa'na Lei'ya and Hell's Fury, both with tots - a no-brainer, to me. Our burgers came out quick, especially considering how busy it was, and were cooked to temp, a rarity when you play the burger game as often as we do. Both were blood red and juicy as all get out. The Hawaiian inspired burger I ordered was sweet and spicy, with the chipotle cream cheese giving it a little extra something. I could not have been more happy with it. My wife's burger was intense and delivered on the spicy. Still, delicious and totally worth ordering as long as you know what you're getting yourself into. The burger platters were huge and we really didn't NEED dessert, but we were too intrigued by the funnel cake fries to pass them up. Good grief, these things were fantastic. We didn't manage to scarf all of them down but the raspberry jam sauce that came with was the proverbial cherry on top. I felt guilty leaving it there. There's a local restaurant back in Orlando that caters to a similar audience and has a similar feel and it just really does not compare. The prices here are fantastic, the beer selection is just as good, and the burgers are miles better. I wish I lived near The Vortex so I could grab a burger on the regular. Ohhhhhhhh my goodness where do I begin? Well my Husband and I are here on a Monday night, and we where seated immediately. My Husband ordered the "Rebel Outlaw" burger, which is a hamburger with teriyaki sauce, pulled pork, bacon, cheese. He said it very spicy, but very very good! I ordered the big as hell "Coronary Bypass". It was absolutely the BEST burger I have ever eaten! It had 2 bacon grilled cheese sandwiches for the bun! It has a really juicy burger patty, bacon, cheese, and a fried egg. Damn that is all I know to say! We are there last night, and headed back there tonight! All the employees where very sweet and helpful. If you can get your butt into one of there chairs, you will more than likely eat one of the best burgers of your entire life!
