First time here and it's as really good since I only got a salad (unfortunately on a diet) and fried pickles. The house salad with chicken and ranch was really tasty and the full size was definitely filling. Fried pickles were good but a bit crunchy still but still worth the little cheat on my diet. It is 21+ so no kids and they do ID you at the door. Cool atmosphere but it is really dark inside for a restaurant but it's the ambiance and it's a cool vibe. The burgers that passed our table did look great so I would definitely go back and do a cheat meal with one of the yum looking burgers. There is a small parking lot next to the Vortex and special Vortex only parking which you don't have to pay. Wow! We were on another long meandering walk via Atlanta's stellar walkable streets, paths, and trails and ended up in the Five Points area. You cannot miss this place on foot or when passing by in a vehicle. The ginormous skull entrance is a real statement. We entered and were immediately seated in an upstairs enclosed dining area that was currently sealed up against the cold. I'm sure it's a hopping place in warmer weather and an enjoyable open space. We were impressed with the menu -- lots of entertaining reading material. The interior artwork also serves as a major conversation starter every where your eyes land. Waitstaff were awesome and super fun to interact with during our visit. We enjoyed cold beer and VERY juicy sloppy burgers -- in a good way. Food was top notch and looking forward to return visits. It's really disappointing that such a good, well known burger spot doesn't make in-house veggie burgers. Beyond Meat & Impossible Meat are both disgusting! If you can tell by the pictures, there's a lot of red light but I assure you it does not distract from the food. The ambience is cool but the food is the star. They have a delicious black bean burger that can be subbed in for any meat patty, which is rare and special! It goes beautifully with their blue cheese mushroom burger. This place is quite an experience! It's hard to miss the iconic dizzy skull exterior of this restaurant, but the inside has even more character. This place is decked out in eclectic and some explicit decorations, and I truly understand why they strictly enforce 21+. My boyfriend and I were carded upon walking in, were promptly seated, and took a second to soak in the vibes of this place. I got the BBQ Bacon Mac N Cheese burger and it was good! I really like how the cost of the burger includes a side. I got their tater tots which were exactly to my liking. It's not the most impressive burger that I've had, but it definitely is a solid burger. Would definitely come back to try some of their other burgers, as well as take out of town visitors here. It feels like the essence of rock and roll if that makes sense. Great! I've been twice now. Service is always quick and friendly. Cool cocktail selection. And decor inside. Bathrooms were accessible and clean. I got the swiss and mushroom with an impossible patty and my lover got the ka'mana wa'na lei'ya, both with tater tots, very good. My friends have enjoyed their cocktails, I've yet to try one. My friends and I came here the other day and were seated right away. Our server was nice but the service was bad. We all ordered the bbq bacon mac & cheese burger because it sounded really good. What a huge disappointment though. A place that is known for burgers doesn't make them well. The burger was barely cheesy. The mac was so dry. When our server asked if we wanted any sauces on the side, he didn't tell us it would cost $1 per sauce until we got the check. Food and service was bad. The Vortex never disappoints! Hubby and I sat on the top patio, which was a first for us. We enjoyed the atmosphere, even though there was lots of pollen. I have been to this location twice now once for brunch and once for lunch. Of the items I've tried out. I would highly recommend the brunch burrito. It basically has all the same ingredients as a hamburger, but for some reason, in burrito form, it's even better than a burger. I also tried two of their fruity, refreshing cocktails, the bramble jam and the booze beery. Each time I went the staff was friendly, it was busy but we didn't have to wait for seating. Although I was a bit skeptical at first, with its gimmicky skull entrance that seemed to be a tourist trap, but I ended up finding its kitschy-ness pretty cool. What really sold me were the burgers. Now, I'm not even a huge burger person, but wow, that guac burger (medium-rare) was magical! Super juicy and tender, it almost melted in my mouth. All the toppings and fixings paired perfectly with the patty-- my only wish was that there was a bit more guac in the burger (after all, it's called the guac burger), but otherwise, a really REALLY solid burger. Service was nice and attentive, and I will say that, while The Vortex is touristy and gimmicky, they know what they're doing with their burgers. Go for the quirky, alternative vibes (21+ only), but stay for the food. You won't regret it! read more

We've been coming to Vortex for many years (since the cigarette vending machine by the bathroom) and this was the first time we left where we were like dang it wasn't hitting. Friday night no wait. Sat and literally waited about 25 minutes just get acknowledgment for drinks or anything. A lot of the original decor the motorcycle the things that made it stand out has definitely changed. Wings and eggrolls hit the table first and my wings were sad and dry. Being hangry I drenched it with ranch and ate. My onion rings were drenched in grease burger patties were bland. I was very pleasantly surprised by my visit to Vortex. It's in a very hipster area and the outside seems a bit gimmicky so I thought it would be a cool place to drink but the food would be mid. But actually the food was delicious, the drinks were affordable, and the patrons were actually very diverse. We went on Saturday night and were able to find a parking spot upfront. We were told it would be a 30 minute wait but we were sat around 10 minutes. That's usually the case for party of 2. I haven't been to the vortex in probably over two decades. Could it have been that long really. Maybe one. Out running errands and a girlfriend suggested we get burgers. This place was right across the street. I tried a burger with jalapeño ranch, which was delicious. The server encouraged me to get it on the side And fear that I can't take the heat but my yelp friends know that that's not the case. However, I'm glad I did get it on the side because of calories. The burger was made to my specifications. The tater tots were delicious though. I wish they were a little hotter. The service was great and our experience was lively, and the restaurant was clean. It's pretty tasty, though, but just be careful about how much you order (they do put the gazillion calories of each thing on the menu LOL) The exterior is cute with a big skull sculpture as the entrance, with his eyes having the "vortex" swirly theme too. I ordered just a regular burger, and even that had a patty on it that was the size of my hand. The meat was super well cooked though, like your family cookout would serve up off the grill. I got the tots as my side and they were nice and salty and plentiful.
