For a place that advertises the best burger, it should be advertised for the worst burger. I've always heard how good they are but it was less than satisfying. My stomach even hurts as I type this review. Pros. Service was good as were the tater-tots and sweet tea. My friends and I agree it's a spot for apps and drinks, not food. Great dive bar! We were seated fast and the waitress was very helpful. It has a fun bar atmosphere. My margarita was great, and hubby's smoked whiskey was good too. We all had a different type burger. My Pimento cheeseburger was delicious. We will definitely go back soon. read more

Ordered a Togo order for pick up and no one greeted me at the door to ask what I needed help with. They forgot the onion rings so I had to stay for another 10 minutes and wait when my other food was already ready. The food tasted like plastic. My nachos had barely any cheese sauce and what was on there was cold and soggy. The burger bun was extremely burnt, but cold and my burger was dry and well overdone when I asked for medium there was no flavor and it was all cold and soggy. Highly disappointed read more

George's is known for their burgers and they have several sizes of burgers. They taste like a homemade grilled burger. George's is also a Runners hangout so the majority of the crowd is very fit. If you are looking for a good time to catch a game with some good classic burger, try George's. SO GOOD! My partner and I ordered the Jalapeño dijon burger and the Bbq bacon and cheddar burger (we love to go half/half) with onion rings and french fries. They were the perfect combo!! Both were chunky juicy burgers with medium cooked patties just the way we wanted. Jalapeño definitely has a kick which I personally love. If you love bbq sauce, you would like the bbq bacon and cheddar - it did not disappoint! George's seems like a roadside, small town dive. Their menu is pretty simple, mostly burgers, wings, fries, salad and soup; the staff is very nice. Their standard 1/4 lb burger with lettuce, tomato, onions and fries is $9, cheese is extra. It's rare to find something on a menu for less than $12 in Atlanta in 2022 but here it is! Now, I will say if you're in the mood for an affordable tasty burger you probably should not come here on Tuesdays because The Highland Tap across the street does a $6 Steakburger. But any other day, definitely worth the trip to George's! read more

We sat outside, there have been venties and additionally we ordered sweat tea as a cooling ;) We had Mozzarella Sticks as entree and the Jalapeño Dijon Burger and Chicken Finger Salad as main dish. Is it four star cuisine? No. BUT it is some really good, quality bar food in the most chill place in the Highlands. Reasonably priced drinks and the best tots in town. Ask for the Fried Chicken Salad Buffalo Style. This is a far better place to hang and people watch than some other places on the block. We love George's...the people, the food, the whole deal. George's is a restaurant and bar known for its burgers. No, it's not a Holeman & Finch or one of those trendy burger joints (e.g. Flip, Farm, Yeah). On the contrary -- George's has been open in Virginia-Highland since 1961. After reading about this place on Yelp and wanting to come here for a few years, I finally made the trip for dinner and had a burger. I am pleased to report the burger was very good! I guess they haven't been open for 50+ years for nothing. This is an old-fashioned bar with TVs aplenty. I wouldn't necessarily classify George's as a sports bar. However, this isn't a bad spot to catch a game. They even carry premium sports channels like NBA TV. Patio seating is available. In the wintertime, the patio is enclosed. The restaurant offers a dozen different varieties of burgers in 5 or 8 ounce patties. 5 ounce burgers are no more than $8.25 per and 8 ounce burgers are no more than $9.50 per. The burgers are hand-pattied and charbroiled and come inside a whole wheat bun. If you're not interested in a burger, you can order from a limited selection of soups, salads, sandwiches, wraps, and hot dogs. I ordered the Bacon & Jack burger. This burger was once featured on the cover of Atlanta Magazine. It came with three small, extra crispy strips of bacon and Monterey Jack cheese. The burger also came with lettuce, tomato, red onion, and a pickle spear. The veggies were fresh. I added a bit of ketchup, mustard, and mayo and chowed down. The burger was delicious. I had the beef cooked medium. The beef was hearty, sufficiently juicy, and chock full of flavor. The whole wheat bun, lightly grilled, was soft and fluffy. One of my tablemates ordered the Mushroom & Swiss burger. It looked more appealing than my Bacon & Jack burger. Next time I come back to George's, I will be ordering the Mushroom & Swiss burger. I tried four of the restaurant's sides: potato salad, onion rings, tater tots, and French fries. The potato salad was cold, salty, and too vinegary/soggy. I don't know if the potato salad had been sitting out too long or what, but it didn't taste fresh nor very good. It was the only food item I tried that I didn't like. The onion rings were excellent. I could taste the beer-battered flavor in them. They were appetizingly crispy, as were the tater tots. I recommend both the onion rings and tater tots as sides. They're not too greasy or oily, either. The fries were fries. They weren't bad, but there wasn't anything special about them. Service was great. George's is located in the heart of Virginia-Highland. Free (parallel) parking is available along many of the neighborhood side streets. Fun fact: There are celebrity name plates of many of the tables. It's a record of all the famous people who have eaten here. I ate at the table where Justin Timberlake ate at when he was in town filming the movie "Trouble with the Curve" (2012). read more

Bacon and jack burger: A-OK, but not in the running for best in Atlanta. Onion rings: better than most. BBQ style chicken tenders: very good, and somewhat spicy. Tots: solid example of a side everyone seems to like. Ambiance: one of the reasons you come here. Nice layout, nice atmosphere, good booths, music not blaring. Very comfortable. Beer: also one of the reasons you come to a bar, but George's is a little weak with their draft list as compared to so many places around town. Still, they have a few good ones. Menu: not extensive but I have no problem finding something to eat. This is not a gastropub by any means. Service: stellar. Quick to greet you, quick to get your drink order, prompt on refills, food is delivered quickly, friendly, not pushy, they deliver your bill when you say you're done. Recently I came across a prompt that asked, "If you could only eat two foods for the rest of your life what would you choose?" Well, I'm still undecided on the other item, but cheeseburgers would have to be one of the two, no question. You've got meat, cheese, bread, and veggies all in one tidy and delicious package. After street parking and wandering in and not being sure about the seating policy, a friendly employee directed us to seat ourselves. I heard her repeat this a few times, so maybe a sign could help clear that up? There are two dining rooms and a patio. We snagged the last available booth, and I got to sit where Jimmy Carter once dined. Awesome. George's has been around since 1961, impressive. The burger menu boasts 13 choices; therefore it's highly likely one option will strike your fancy. And there are other bar food dishes if you don't feel like a burger. Each burger can be had as either a quarter pounder (~$7-9) or half pounder (~$9-11) and comes with your choice of sides, mostly potato-based. I was feeling especially southern and opted for the pimento cheese burger with a side of fries. The pale fries were okay but nothing amazing. The burger was very satisfactory, on a wheat bun, with the traditional trimmings (lettuce, tomato, raw onion) all fresh. George's pimento has more of a pureed consistency, and they don't skimp on the pimento; you'll be able to taste that. I was satisfied. Service: Nice, attentive. Atmosphere: Casual, laid-back. Do not bother, there was an open 4 top outside that I was denied sitting at because they told me there was a birthday party but there were clearly three other tables not part of the group. The staff was rude, unaccommodating and unprofessional. Get a clue on how to run a hospitality business. I actually come here all the time but telling my senior citizen parents they are not welcome when there is an open table is unacceptable. read more

I've been dining at George's since the 70's. A small group has been dining there regularly for the past 20 years. Tuesday, as we were leaving, we were discussing our meal. Fries overdone. Onion rings overdone. Two medium burgers, both well done. Medium rare burger, well done. Replacement for one overcooked medium burger was raw in the middle (not just rare but still cold), smashed flat, and broken. I'm OK with uncooked beef so did not return it... even though it was not what I'd ordered. I ordered another medium burger with fries as takeout for my daughter. I warned her that the burgers were not being cooked properly and that the fries were overdone. She insisted. Her burger turned out to be half well done and half rare. Her fries were overdone. One member of our group, "Why do we keep coming back, expecting it to be better?" George's "Killer Burger" ? For the past few years, inconsistent. This last visit, consistently BAD. The service was the most disappointing because we had 3 different people covering out table and they messed up the 1 beer we got and the food. Does George's have the best food in town? No. Does George's have the best atmosphere in town? Nope. Is George's the quintessential neighborhood pub, and therefore "as good as it gets?" Yep. George's is cheap, friendly, quick, and delicious. They serve up a mean burger, but don't expect some fancy Holeman & Finch number. This is a classic bar burger: greasy and messy and completely satisfying. I loved that they served it in a smaller size so I can splurge within reason. The fries were mediocre as was the coleslaw, but the burger was worth it. And for under $8, it was really worth it. Beer is cheap, service was the right amount of friendly, and it just had a great feel that I can see myself craving again and again (the kind of atmosphere where you can throw your hair up and saunter in without makeup: a rarity in this neighborhood). Plus, it's a bar that feels like it'd allow smoking, but it doesn't. And man, I love that. read more

My most recent obsession has been with onion rings. My perfect onion ring criteria is simple and includes: 1. Must be crispy 2. Entire onion strip must not slip out of casing upon bite #1. After craving rings for days, I entered "best onion rings" into the search box on yelp. George's was on the very top of the list. So George's it was. NONONO! these onion rings were not good. First, they were not crispy at all. Second the breading was really thick and the centers were strangely juicy. At one point during my onion ring consumption, onion juice squirted on my face, yum!....last time i checked, i didn't sign up to eat a watermelon. Third and most disappointing, the onion strip came right out of its shell like a 5 year old on a freshly lubed slip and slide. We took two nieces and one of their husbands here for a lunch on a Saturday. Parking was mildly challenging, but that is more due to the Va-Hi area than to George's. There is a pay lot just down the street beyond the woodworking place, or you could probably park further away in the neighborhoods. Our first choice was whether to eat inside or on the patio adjoining the sidewalk. The inside seemed overly dark (dim lighting and dark wood) plus they didn't seem to have more than one table the could easily accommodate more than 4 people. The patio was brighter, the table-arrangement was flexible, and you could people-watch. We opted for the patio. Service was a bit slow at first, but I think they were just ramping up for lunch. Once we got connected with our waitress, things ran smoothly. Everyone ordered a burger of some sort, and we didn't have to wait overly long. We had come at one niece's request for the burgers, and no one was disappointed. George's burger is among the better that I've had lately. It is sized well and they have a fair variety on the menu. Different people in our party got different sides so we shared those also; the fries and tots were both good. If you're in the Va-Hi area and want some bar-food, George's is a good option. read more

I loved this place! A friend brought us here for a late night burger while we were visiting Atlanta after a live music show, so warm, comforting, and maybe a tad greasy food was in order. The restaurant itself is homey and screams old school greasy spoon diner in the best possible way. Our server was delightful. We all had different burgers, with combos of fries and onion rings. So good! All cooked to perfection, special requests happily honored, and so tasty. And I had an exceptionally good martini with mine, which I wasn't expecting (I know you are saying, "it's a martini, how hard can that be to get right," but if you're a martini drinker, you know that proportions are everything and if they're a little off, the drink is only average). And the prices were very reasonable, at least to this Brooklyn girl. If I'm ever back in Atlanta, I'll be running back to Georges's. read more
