Dr. Joy changed gave me back quality of life while pregnant and postpartum and I'm SO thankful!!…read moreEveryone should go see her. By the end of my first trimester and beginning of second trimester, I was suffering with horrendous back pain. By 1pm I could no longer stay on my feet for more than a few minutes without a break. By 4pm every single day my back would "lock up" and I couldn't get my legs to move to walk. So I would crawl to use the bathroom. And crawl to the kitchen to feed my toddler. I thought this was normal pregnancy stuff and wrote it off as me being 39 (an old pregnant lady). Then my wonderful midwife, Chavah,
recommended Dr. Joy. Within 3 days of seeing her I had my life back! Zero back pain. Zero mobility issues. She has an app and uploaded some stretches for me, and I'm telling you they changed my life. I once skipped them for a little over a week because life got busy and I just kinda forgot about them. And the back pain came back, I slowly lost mobility and couldn't twist as well, I experienced sharp pelvic pain, and found myself spending more time in bed. Then I met with Dr. Joy again and she got me loosened up again and reminded me to do the stretches at home. Zero issues after that. The entire pregnancy I was able to stay active playing with my toddler, and doing everything to keep the household running smoothly and it was EASY! I felt great! Pregnancy no longer stopped me from living normal life. I had no idea that was even an option for me. I wish I knew Dr. Joy during my first pregnancy. Okay, some details I appreciate about her: she always talked to my baby and was SO respectful and kind. I felt so safe with her. She would gently put her hands on my tummy to feel the position of the baby and I felt absolutely confident my baby was in good hands. I trust her. I brought my rowdy toddler to every single appointment and he was able to chill on the sofa or play with hot wheel cars she kindly provided. it's very family friendly! Eventually we needed to do some delicate interior work, and Dr. Joy had a great setup in a private room that preserved my modesty while still allowing my toddler to be in the room with me. Which was totally a personal choice! My point is that she can accommodate your preference and make you feel as safe and comfortable as you need, even if your hormones are making you crazy and you can't stand the thought of leaving your toddler with a babysitter. If you've never been to a pelvic therapy session and don't know what to expect: the first half of my sessions I laid on a massage table and Dr. Joy basically observed the damage before giving me a tune up, haha! She methodically checked from my neck to my toes for muscle tightness or soreness and worked on those areas, listening carefully to my loooong list of complaints. Then during the second half of our session, she would guide me through stretches and simple exercises (cat-cow, lunges, twists, squats, etc.) and adjust them to my needs that week. Then she would update the movements in the app so I knew exactly what to do at home between appointments. She also gave me so many useful product recommendations from supportive clothing, to lotions and oils, to supplements, and so much more. She literally had a solution for every issue that popped up. Craving a relaxing massage and facial? she knows the perfect person. Found yourself snoring at night and not sleeping well? She helped me find a myofascial specialist which resulted in achieving the best sleep of my life. I ended up having an elective c-section and Dr. Joy came to my house for appointments while I recovered! she gently inspected my incision, massaged my uterus, and manually helped my organs go back to the right places, helped me with belly binding (because that's something I wanted to do) and made some great product recommendations for that as well. She even told me about supplements to help balance the crazy postpartum hormones. Later on she massaged my scar and helped it heal faster and better. My husband finally saw what a wealth of knowledge she has, and now he's a loyal client, too! He has chronic back pain from breaking his back 12 years ago and she has been able to help massively with that. I think part of what makes her so effective is she really takes the time to think and analyze each person. She figures out WHY the problem exists and solves the root issue. If you're planning to get pregnant, are pregnant or postpartum, perimenopausal or menopausal, go see her!! The only regret you will have is not seeing her sooner.
