I went with…read moreCalloway & Sons solely based on their positive Yelp reviews as my friends really didn't have anyone to recommend. I'm not going to lie: getting this system installed in a home we were living in at the time was not a pleasure and I won't ever go through it again. We had to get the duct work done which is a horrifying mess (there's no way around it) and to Calloway & Son's credit, they did suggest we go with a split system. Live and learn. We also thought we were getting a system with zones which didn't happen and it was never fully explained why, but in these old homes with impossibly high ceilings and two levels, your bills are going to be extremely high if you have one single unit. It is what it is. I certainly don't blame them for that! But on to the most important stuff: the system is pretty good. Again, old house, not the greatest insulation and taking all that into consideration we are comfortable 80% of the year. The other 20% of times are where things are a less than awesome: this year's blizzard and any extremely cold days mean for a very hot upstairs, requiring us to run the window AC unit. And on those blistering hot summer days, there's no way we're comfortable upstairs without the window unit. Again, my house... it's ancient. It wasn't made for these types of systems. Last summer, there was a day in August when the system stopped working on a Friday. I was more than a little disappointed when I was told they couldn't give us a service visit unit until Monday. If you live here, you know it is literally unbearable to not have AC on a summer day. Luckily the very kind lady on the phone worked with us and fit us in. I also now pay for insurance that ensures priority service. I was only able to afford to get the HVAC on the owner's side of my two family house done and that was about 25K. The financing was not great... if I hadn't paid it off ASAP, it would have been almost double that. So try to pay it all upfront if possible. At least the option is there if you need it.

    Nash Heating & Air Conditioning

    Nash Heating & Air Conditioning

Bad experience! November 2023…read more My air conditioning contractor died and I had Nash came out to evaluate my units. I knew that I had a small refrigerant leak in one unit as about a half pound of refrigerant was added two years before as well as one year before Nash came out. This first unit would run a little longer than the other. The second unit had not previously been found to be low on refrigerant and always performed well. Nash's technician allegedly added 2 lbs of R410a to the unit which I knew had a slow leak and 2.5 lbs to the unit with which I never had an issue. Total for the refrigerant = $562.50 for 4.5 lbs. I also requested that the technician check the first unit for a refrigerant leak. He said he had to call his office to get the price. He came back and quoted me $142.95. He reportedly checked for a leak and came back to me, sooner than expected, and indicated he could not find a leak. As I thought the leak check went rather fast, I asked if he checked the refrigerant lines under the house. He told me that he had not because that was an extra charge. What? You were supposed to check the refrigerant lines for a leak. He never said $142.95 but that does not include crawling under the house. After allegedly calling the office again for a price, he came back and indicated checking the lines under the house would be another $125.00. I told him to do it. He never found a leak. He spent less than 15 minutes under the house. He also advised that the first unit was sloping in the wrong direction, affecting drainage. I asked if he could handle that since he was here. He came back with a quote of $100.00 to level the unit and advised if he could not get it done by himself, he would have to come back with help and it would cost me several hundred dollars, or more. Hmmmm. The unit can be lifted with one hand to add shims. I asked him to handle it because I would probably not make the time to go in the attic and do it myself. The technician also failed to re-tape / re-seal the access door and when I asked about sealing around where the lines penetrated the access door (these were not sealed and the grommet was gone), he just shrugged his shoulders. Total bill: Refrigerant leak search $ 142.95 4.5 lbs refrigerant $ 562.50 Refrigerant leak search under house $ 125.00 Level furnace and coil $ 100.00 Total $1,240.85 About a week later, I ordered a refrigerant leak detector for $199.99 and spent about 30 minutes checking lines under the house and in the attic, including the evaporator coil in the attic. I found a leak in the coil. That was early-to-mid November. As I was curious about the refrigerant leaks reported by the Nash technician and the alleged 4.5 lbs of refrigerant that I was added by Nash, I decided to wait for a while to allow the refrigerant a chance to leak out. I had both units checked about two weeks ago. The first unit was about a half pound low. The second unit was not low. Hmmmmmmm. Just had the evaporator coil changed out by another company. So far, all seems fine. I must also note that Nash quoted to replace a condensing unit for me several years ago. They were almost twice the cost of the contractor that did the work. They also recently did significant work for my elderly father and he seems happy, although he indicated he found the prices to be high. High price isn't necessarily bad if you get good results. I got bad results and feel like I got screwed. Nash was recommended to me by two friends, who use and like Nash. Seems like I got a technician who must work on commission or similar and who thought he would take advantage of a customer. Never again will I do business with this company. The new company that changed my coil also spent about an hour going through the attic and checking for leaking ducts and re-sealing numerous things. They sealed penetrations through the removable access panel that Nash ignored. They taped the doors where they meet the housing. Extra charge $125.00. I felt like I got value from this new company. I felt like I got screwed by Nash.

I hired them to install a new a/c in 2020. They also sold me an "air scrubber" for $900.00 and when…read morethe UV light died, they told me it would cost $600.00 to replace. Ridiculous. What a scam. I also purchased a service contract and they wouldn't do the fall service "because of Covid," but they charged me for the service. Very disappointed. I gave them 2 stars because the installers did a good job, not their fault Nash has pathetic support..
