I like this type of B&B, one more focused on welcoming you and making you feel comfortable than killing you with cuteness, doilies and teddy bears. I really liked the Barcelona room. Like a lot of the rooms, it has a private patio. It was sweet to lounge in the sun and read with the sounds of cooing doves and songbirds in the air. It's rare that I stay at a place with a comfortable bed worth noting! This one was a luxurious California King. Nice sized room, with nice touches. It's not quite Architectural Digest, but I like the villa's vibe. The bathroom was large, featuring a shower/tub with good water pressure. The toiletries are only halfway to upscale, but don't people who care the most about shampoos and lotions bring their own anyway? The wifi worked well. Cell service is spotty - but that's the valley. I was happy with everything about the room and facility. And I didn't even take advantage of the bocce ball court! The highlight of the breakfast included with your stay is the house-made granola prepared by Roy's wife. It's served with fresh fruit and yogurt, juice, coffee, a selection of bagels, English muffins and hard boiled eggs. There are tables in a couple of rooms and outside, so you can chat with other guests or keep to yourself. I think the timing was 7:30 - 9:30. Roy is a retired language professor and a hoot to converse with. How often do you meet a real polyglot? And he does some great accents. Here's my take on staying here versus other options. If you're feeling flush, the Harvest Inn across the valley has an even more beautiful setting and a more extensive brunch spread. But sometimes, you don't want to empty your wallet just to visit the slice of heaven known as Napa Valley. Or maybe you just want to have dollars left to buy more bottles of wine... You may want to take advantage of the discount Spanish Villa Inn offers if you pay with a check or cash, instead of a credit card. You'd pay a little less and get a lot less in return at some of the "bargain" B&B's and hotels around these parts. Roy's villa is quiet, clean, comfortable and inviting. And being in St. Helena, instead of down in Napa is a huge advantage for really enjoying the entirety of the valley!

Pros: Superb views, a beautifully maintained garden and landscape, very private, incredibly clean and comfortable, well-appointed, very friendly owners, short driving distance to St. Helena, Calistoga, etc. Con: Driveway is very difficult to pull out of, being on a blind curve. I believe that a simple measure such as installing a mirror or two would remedy this, and we suggested it to the owner. I suspect that they will be responsive.

They supply cozy and comfy robes, a duraflame log for the fireplace upon request, and a sweet turn down service with stamped cookies that shout "welcome home." We enjoyed the walkability to visit art galleries and boutiques in St. Helena. We attended brunch at Mustard and Dinner reservation at Charter Oak. *Yum*!! After a long day of wine tasting, the restaurant next door/attached has delicious wood fired pizzas which we could not pass up! The drinks at the bar were generous and was a nice switch up from wine (although they have wine too, of course!) while we watched the sports game that was on. We dropped off our Continental breakfast selections which are delivered straight to your room the next morning. We felt so pampered, eating breakfast in the comfort of our own room in our robes and slippers. The mini fridge allowed us to save extras we might want to snack on later. The Illy espresso machine made it so we could enjoy espresso throughout the day and even a decaf shot at night. The pastries served are on another level and pretty much awards them the best Continental breakfast we've ever had!! We were sad we didn't get to take advantage of the health spa privileges, but it felt very nice to know we could have enjoyed the spa and sauna should we have chosen to. They give you a complimentary tasting at Merryvale across the parking lot which is an exceptional value since to reserve online was $60/person. Their wines are fantastic and the people are just as great! Our trip to Napa Valley was superb thanks to the staff and grounds at Southbridge. Decided to hop on an app that shows me last minute hotel deals and saw Southbridge at the top of the list. Since we had a babysitter and the room rates were great, we decided to book our last minute stay. Just right across the street from Gotts and next door to Charter Oak, there was plenty of parking in the back. Front desk staff was very helpful and friendly and to our surprise, we were given Room 8 which was a big room that had a balcony that faced the street. Highlights - beds and pillows were comfortable, water pressure in the shower was probably the best I've experienced in a while. A quick little walk over to the next building over and as hotel guests, you have full access to all of the amenities at Health Spa Napa Valley (heated lap pool, hot tub, full gym, steam room). This was super nice to just unwind and relax after a day of over indulging. You can also place a light breakfast order to be delivered to your room at your selected time; boiled eggs, croissant, fruit, coffee, etc. Something to be aware of; the hotel is situation right off of the main road Hwy28 so if you're a light sleeper, you will hear cars, trucks and motorcycles all times of the day and night. And this year we have also been fortunate enough for her to provide us with these incredible homemade organic exquisite unusual iced teas again from various ingredients on her property. They are delicious and unlike anything we've ever had. The breakfast that Mimi made consisted of fresh fruits, homemade bread, and different egg dishes on our two days there of the highest quality. The 3 acres contain a plethora of fruits, flowers, trees, and is there to enjoy. There are many areas where one can sit and simply enjoy what's there. Mimi and Ed are extremely hard-working hosts and enjoyable to talk with. One may wonder about the price; when I mentioned it to my daughter, she said, "oh that's cheap!" While I may not agree with that, I can say that it was alright for our celebration. I don't know how to price an experience; it's different for everybody.

We stayed in the Mollie Day room and it was so luxurious - a king-sized bed, a spacious bathroom with a Jacuzzi tub big enough for two! It's downstairs, in the back (very quiet) and features its own patio and exit. A true home away from home. The Inn St. Helena was once the home of Ambrose Bierce, the famous humorist and writer. It feels like it: a place where you can relax and let your imagination go. It is fresh, clean, bright, and at the same time historical. It is a place to drop out of the busy world and catch up with yourself. And afterward, you'll have a cherished memory you may keep forever.

It wasn't just one or two drops--there were several, in different spots throughout the bed as well as the blanket. It seems that housekeeping is not doing a good job of cleaning the sheets each night. The poor housekeeping is especially concerning amidst the pandemic. It's concerning enough that blood is on the sheets and not being cleaned, and it's a whole other concern that housekeeping didn't even notice the stained sheets. We called the front desk to request new sheets and blankets, but they were only able to provide us with a very thin sheet, so despite booking a deluxe king room, we had to sleep without comfy sheets and blankets. There are several other gorgeous boutique hotels in the Napa area. Book another place that takes cleanliness more seriously.

What a treat. Friendly service here and timely response to requests. The rooms are cozy, spacious, and well-maintained. The heat/AC works well. Most importantly, the beds are excellent and the pillows are nice. I'm always surprised how many hotels miss these points that you'd think would be essential. The fitness center is a good one, with treadmills, pull-up bars, TRX bands, a bench, and dumbbells up to 75 lbs. Can't wait to return.

DONT buy olive oil, there's lots in the bottom of the serviette! The owner Jennifer provided solid communication and addressed any issues promptly. The property offers a pool (unheated) hot tub, fire-pit, grill and a wood burning stove in the Farmhouse. While we ate out most nights our grill night was great. It's a bit rustic, so wifi & tv are spotty but our cell service was perfect. Dishwashing is by hand. We would definitively stay here again!

Scarlett's is definitely more rustic than country chic, but it is utterly charming, the proprietors warm, and their dogs loveable and friendly. Staying here definitely feels like staying with close family or friends. Scarlett's is nestled back from the Silverado trail and accessed via a narrow, one-car gravel road. There is no prominent signage from the road except for some a nice of red reflector lights above the house sign - useful when driving at night along the poorly-lit Silverado. There are only 3 sets of accommodations available - ranging from the smallest Arrowhead Room (and most inexpensive) to largest (Camellia Suite) a few steps away from the main house where breakfasts are served and the pool/ hot tub is accessed. As other folks have mentioned, breakfasts are delicious - French toast, chicken apple sausage, fresh-squeezed OJ (lots of pulp!), coffee and fresh fruit on Day 1; poached eggs, bacon and warmed breads assortment with more fruit, coffee and juice on Day 2. We reserved the Gamay suite in advance and were upgraded to the Camellia suite when we arrived - the Inn was not full that weekend, perhaps since it was still a bit off-season. The Gamay and Camellia are attached as one structure and we were allowed to take a peek at both to make up our minds as to where we wanted to stay. The Camellia Suite is a full ground floor, and includes a large living room connected to a "wet bar" consisting of sink, dishwasher, microwave, and teeny tiny fridge which housed OJ, yogurt, vitamin waters; there was a bowl of fresh fruit on the kitchen table. The bedroom features a Queen-sized bed and a darling window seat that was perfect for perching, reading & netbooking. Derek showed us around since Scarlett (his mother) was away at a champion water-skiier's convention. He very thoroughly showed us through the rooms we were to choose from, and when we finally settled on the Camelia, he went through the quirks specific to our home for 2 days...(heater in the LR tends to run warm; the fire is easily started in the old fashioned wood stove; free Wifi is available, but not great for downloading large files). He showed us how to operate the hot tub, and kept it warm/ on for us for the couple of days that we were there. The property is surrounded by some beautiful woods that are great for a nice & easy rambling hike - the dogs are likely to join you and the littlest - Chewie - will probably stay with you the entire time. So many thoughtful little details - the umbrellas by the door, the coffee maker and various creams and sugars; the extra linens and pillows in the large wardrobe, the umbrellas by the door (which were really helpful for the deluge on our last day there) etc.
