I've seen Southbridge pop up on different travel/hotel apps so its been on my radar. Wife and I were in town on a Sunday, had great food and drinks and didn't feel like driving home back to the East Bay. Decided to hop on an app that shows me last minute hotel deals and saw Southbridge at the top of the list. Since we had a babysitter and the room rates were great, we decided to book our last minute stay. Just right across the street from Gotts and next door to Charter Oak, there was plenty of parking in the back. Front desk staff was very helpful and friendly and to our surprise, we were given Room 8 which was a big room that had a balcony that faced the street. Highlights - beds and pillows were comfortable, water pressure in the shower was probably the best I've experienced in a while. A quick little walk over to the next building over and as hotel guests, you have full access to all of the amenities at Health Spa Napa Valley (heated lap pool, hot tub, full gym, steam room). This was super nice to just unwind and relax after a day of over indulging. You can also place a light breakfast order to be delivered to your room at your selected time; boiled eggs, croissant, fruit, coffee, etc. Something to be aware of; the hotel is situation right off of the main road Hwy28 so if you're a light sleeper, you will hear cars, trucks and motorcycles all times of the day and night. We Loved - and I mean LOVED - our stay at Southbridge. From the small details to the amazing walkable location, we couldn't have asked for a better place to stay to visit St. Helena in Napa Valley, CA. They welcome you with a nice personalized sign in your room, complimentary water and apples. The sustainable features are impressive - Instead of plastic bottles and paper cups, they give you a glass carafe and glass cups. The towels are so soft and plentiful, extra pillows and a blanket supplied were nicer than my own linens at home, certainly not just the extras. They supply cozy and comfy robes, a duraflame log for the fireplace upon request, and a sweet turn down service with stamped cookies that shout "welcome home." We enjoyed the walkability to visit art galleries and boutiques in St. Helena. We attended brunch at Mustard and Dinner reservation at Charter Oak. *Yum*!! After a long day of wine tasting, the restaurant next door/attached has delicious wood fired pizzas which we could not pass up! The drinks at the bar were generous and was a nice switch up from wine (although they have wine too, of course!) while we watched the sports game that was on. We dropped off our Continental breakfast selections which are delivered straight to your room the next morning. We felt so pampered, eating breakfast in the comfort of our own room in our robes and slippers. The mini fridge allowed us to save extras we might want to snack on later. The Illy espresso machine made it so we could enjoy espresso throughout the day and even a decaf shot at night. The pastries served are on another level and pretty much awards them the best Continental breakfast we've ever had!! We were sad we didn't get to take advantage of the health spa privileges, but it felt very nice to know we could have enjoyed the spa and sauna should we have chosen to. They give you a complimentary tasting at Merryvale across the parking lot which is an exceptional value since to reserve online was $60/person. Their wines are fantastic and the people are just as great! Our trip to Napa Valley was superb thanks to the staff and grounds at Southbridge. We attended a function at beautiful Napa Valley Masonic Lodge right at the cebter of Main St and stayed at Southbridge. One thing that impressed me most is the check in. A true indication of a great hotel is how they rectify an unpleasant encounter, and turn that experience around. My husband and I arrived at this hotel on Friday night. The room was beautiful, quite large, with vaulted ceiling and a small balcony that overlooked the pizza restaurant. We were assured by a front desk person that the restaurant closes at 9:30 PM so we shouldn't hear anything in our room after that hour. Unfortunately, between 11 PM and 1:30 AM, four male guests decided to have a little party outside our window in the closed restaurant. We asked them to please keep it down, as they had awakened us. They did not. So my husband spoke to the desk person a couple times, and on the second time the men were told to leave. We were not pleased with our interrupted sleep and spoke to the concierge in the morning. We left for the day with no expectation of ameliorating the situation . Upon our return, we discovered a bottle of wine, two beautiful pieces of chocolate, and an apology note. Additionally, we received a discount for the first night. I was very impressed with their customer service! So much so, that I would absolutely come back to this hotel because I feel confident that they would ensure that my experience was favorable. The hotel itself is beautiful. Continental breakfast is included in the price, and it's delivered directly to your door! The staff is all very nice and friendly. The bed was comfortable. While the price is quite steep, the value for what you pay is greater than other hotels in the area. Do you have access to the Spa, which is fitted with a Jacuzzi, pool, and steam room. The hotel is very conveniently located to downtown St Helena. If I felt like splurging for a night, I would definitely return here! read more

We absolutely LOVED our visit to Southbridge, From the moment we walked in, till the moment we turned in our keys. The staff were great! So nice and helpful. First thing I noticed when I walked in is, how fresh it smelt inside. The sound of the water fountain in the court yard helped set the soothing & relaxing mood that never went away. Our room was beautiful and modern. We had a view of the main road that also gave us a chance to watch the Wine Train roll by. The pool is not set up to be hanging out and relaxed in. You RSVP a lane and get a time to swim. The Hot tub is nice and big and the relaxing can be done in there. Full Gym, and other spa choices to enjoy. They also serve breakfast to your door. Make sure you fill out the card and leave at front desk. Great location to walk downtown, you can get to anything from Southbridge. Plenty of places to eat and wine taste by foot, wear comfy shoe's. this will be our place when we are in town. I did not take pics and I apologize. read more

Stayed here for two nights during COVID times to get away from SF, and it was fantastic. I'm surprised there are very few recent reviews, but in late summer 2020 the rooms are modern, spacious, and luxurious with high vaulted ceilings in both room and bathroom. I included some bathroom photos too, for those who are PICKY about these things (I am a self-proclaimed bathroom snob). The room was a haven during the heat wave, and nicely air conditioned. The fireplace was classy but during the heat wave + fires it went unused of course (would be nice during winter). Complimentary breakfast is delivered to your room at the time of your choice to minimize interactions - just mark on a paper your choices of hot and cold beverages, continental items like pastries and fruit, and cheeses and drop it off at the front desk. Super easy and a great amenity. We still ate brunch on Main Street after. They left a little "good night" paper bag of mini water bottles and dark chocolate cookies on the door in the evening - what a nice touch! A pizzeria with happy hour $1 oysters is directly downstairs around the corner, and we happily ate there every day. The grounds are lush and shaded, and felt like a magical getaway from the city. We also used the complimentary health spa facilities next door - mostly lounged by the pool to escape the heat. There were a few exercise machines inside and outside but we didn't use these (it was 115 degrees outside). We saw personnel wiping down chairs after patrons left. Minor cons: the WiFi was indeed spotty as some had mentioned. We inquired at the front desk and they said something broke overnight and wouldn't be fixed until several days later. So if you are WiFi dependent for work or whatnot, this might not be the most reliable place for you. A few cobwebs here and there behind outlets and from the high vaulted bathroom ceiling (not sure how you would clean that except with a 20' broom). read more

We stayed here in room #6 in mid February. Reserved a basic King room online but got the suite King which wasn't made clear when reserving but that was okay. Didn't have as many shared walls so very quiet. It was cold and rainy so complimentary umbrellas were nice. Room heater worked well also although a bit of a hum. Front desk staff was helpful and accommodating to my questions about the spa and breakfast. Kitchen staff were very friendly and on time with our continental breakfast. You also get apples/bottled water in your room. This room is above the restaurant below and there is a slight smoky smell near the bathroom which I assume is from the pizza oven although we didn't hear any noise from patrons below. It was lovely though to have the restaurant so close and be able to eat in our rooms. We had a chicken sausage pizza and it was excellent, lots of sausage in every bite. The room was clean, comfy bed, and had a fireplace and couch/chairs. Be aware though that sometimes the hotel has work done during the day so be sure to ask. We were surprised to see men on ladders at our windows during the day without any notice. Not awful but just closed the blinds quickly. Also there might be a leak on the roof at that end of the hotel because there was some buckling on the paint on the ceiling. They use cards as keys here, and for some reason, they stopped working twice. Technology! The best part is the free use of the gym/pool/spa. The pool is long enough to swim laps but you have to reserve time. Gym had the usual good supply of equipment and free weights and I felt attended to by the staff. The locker room was well supplied with towels and products, very clean and they even have a steam room with eucalyptus scent in the steam. There is filtered water with lemon/cucumber slices to drink. Very nice. You do get some street noise but not like a highway, and very close to other restaurants and high end shopping. It's not in nature but has a nice small town feel with plenty of amenities. read more

Extremely satisfied with our stay here! Staff was great room and facilities were nice, but most importantly the room was very clean! That's a must and they delivered on cleanliness! As far as the location goes it's perfectly centered around the best wines and food napa has to offer from what we can gather ( based on yelp reviews) Price was good, we booked on hotels tonight and saved about $40 which was cool! Bed, in our opinion, was very comfortable. Also they have a FULL gym, only hotel gym I have ever seen that has real dumbbells that go up to 95.... so I can do my curls! And a beautiful pool! I had high expectations for Southbridge given the hotel's location in posh St Helena and the manner in which the hotel markets itself, as "A darling little gem of a hotel . . . The words intimate, informal and warm come to mind." The reality falls far short of the hype. While half the rooms overlook a pool or fountain or lawn area, the other half overlook a parking lot with the garbage dumpsters just below the room such that guests on that side are entertained by the sounds of refuse being dumped and cars driving back & forth. We were not told of the choice to be made so ended up being given a room on the parking lot side. That meant that we had to keep our shades down during our entire stay unless we wanted to have everyone in the parking lot able to see us. Has the designer never heard of bottom-up shades to at least provide some sky and sunlight to guests on this side while still providing privacy? The rooms are modern and pleasantly furnished and have a fireplace. Unfortunately, the thoughtfulness for guests' basic needs, beyond the rather ordinary decor, is entirely lacking. There is no full-length mirror despite multiple places one could be easily installed. A skylight provides natural light in the bathroom but at night, the artificial lighting consists of one light fixture and that fixture is at one's back when standing at the mirror so absolutely no illumination when looking in the mirror. There is a small lighted makeup mirror but the light in ours failed to work so putting in contact lenses or makeup became virtually impossible at night. In addition, while one side of our King bed had ample electrical outlets, the other side had only a single dual outlet, both of them in use for lamp & phone. In a modern hotel, does one really need to unplug the room phone in order to charge one's iPhone at bedside overnight? The worst part of our stay was breakfast. Using the excuse of Covid (can't we all agree that, 3 years later, Covid has ceased to excuse bad breakfasts?), the hotel uses a trolley to deliver one's pre-ordered breakfast to the room on a tray with no embellishment (a small spray of flowers perhaps?) and white, institutional-looking dishware covered in Saran wrap. The food is also institutional -- literally tasteless croissants and muffins (Safeway, anyone?), world's worst coffee, bottled oj served in a plastic cup, etc. No attractive basket of local bakery-quality pastries, no whole strawberries or elegantly sliced melon arrayed attractively on a plate -- just a small white dish of unappetizing cut-up fruit that reminded me of my last hospital stay. The most frustrating aspect of the breakfast is that the hotel sits on lovely grounds where a few bistro tables & chairs could be set out this time of year for a Covid-safe breakfast next to a beautiful fountain with birds singing and trees shading one's table. Feeling transported for those moments to a charming French countryside inn rather than to Hospital Corporation of America. What a colossal waste! Who's running this place & how can they be so blind to the squandering of Southbridge's potential as one of the "small luxury hotels of the world." Update: My compliments to General Manager Marcelle who was kind enough to respond to my review in person. Thanks to her proactive approach, our next stay at Southbridge will likely reflect a few important changes that will make it more pleasant for all future guests. This St. Helena hotel is a great location for enjoying all that wine country has to offer. It's a central location to many wineries and restaurants. The room was clean, air conditioning worked great, and employees were friendly. Due to covid, they do not have their breakfast buffet open, instead you order off a continental menu and select a time for them to deliver to the room. This worked out well, although my husband missed having a hot breakfast, but there are some bakeries and other breakfast spots close by if needed. Also, it would have been nice to have a view. Our room overlooked the downstairs pizzeria, and I would guess you only get that view or the parking lot. The hotel offers use of the next door gym/spa which we did not use, but was a nice perk. read more

The Inn provides a few Duraflame logs for your enjoyment. Double french doors open up for plenty of fresh air. Quiet. Hotel has a spa complex with all the usual massages, facials, etc. Fitness room has all the the hi-Tech hamster excercise machines you can want. 100 paces from downtown St. Helena. St Helena is not a cheap destination by any means, especially with hotels. Stayed here on a whim during a road trip to Napa Valley and wanted to splurge a bit (though I got punished for spending too much here!). During the Memorial holiday weekend last year, this was the only game left in town (all other BBs were booked) and while this wasn't a Victorian cottage BB, it was an extremely comfy, cozy, and decadent stay. The room I had got a high ceiling, like a V-shape (2nd or 3rd floor forgot), and the king bed was super comfortable. That room ran $450+ after tax for one night. We got free breakfast, and newspaper with the charges, though just coffee, muffins, fruit, cereal and yogurt + milk, but nothing fancy. read more

We stayed here with a group of friends for a weekend in November. The rooms are pretty good sized and have vaulted ceilings. I loved the illy Espresso makers in the rooms!!! One of my favorite amenities. There is a spa on the property and Southbridge guests can use the pool, hot tub and sauna for free. I'm disappointed that I was busy I never had time to use the spa between all of the wine tastings and dinners. Next trip! The continental breakfast was good. Salami, cheese, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, granola, pastries, coffee, tea. I loved the mango coconut water refreshers. Easy to grab a quick, filling bite before heading out for the day. Great location in St. Helena. 5 minute walk to downtown St. Helena's shops and restaurants. 5 minute walk to Farmstead. Very close to Clif family winery and food truck, close to Hall Winery. Only 2 minor annoyances: #1) The wi-fi internet was a bit wonky. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. #2) The on-premise pizzeria was closed for renovations. I had read good Yelp reviews and thought it would be an easy lunch one day. Next time... All in all, we were very satisfied with our stay at Southbridge. I would be happy to stay here again for our next Napa trip. read more

I recently got married on 4th of July in St. Helena. In order to allow all of the guests stay close by to one another, I set up a block of rooms at several hotels in the area. Southbridge was incredibly accommodating and so wonderful to work with. The hotel was chic, beautiful, & the service was great. I had some really tough critics on my guest list and they all raved about the experience & accommodations there. My now husband and I stayed there on the night of our wedding and it was lovely! They sent up refreshments for us congratulating us which was really special. For events, Meghan was an absolute rock star to work with. Her professionalism and willigness to help with EVERY aspect of the wedding was SO over the top and beyond. She helped me organize my rehearsal dinner, the day after brunch, nanny services, & a local space to build welcome bags. All of this simply because we set up a room block for our guests which she could've filled on a busy holiday weekend for a higher rate. She made me (and our guests) feel SO special and I could not have pulled off the 4 days of wedding events without her - no kidding. She is an incredible asset to the Meadowood brand and I hope to work with her again someday. Marcelle was also an incredible help. She made near impossible things happen when guests had difficult last minute requests for services etc. She literally saved the day and my wedding!! She was also incredibly thoughtful. The day my Mum and I built welcome bags in the conference room, she wanted to ensure I was eating (which I hadn't) so she brought fruit and yogurt which was SO sweet and considerate. This is just one small aspect of the kindness, patience, & hospitality that was shown to us there. I cannot say enough about how wonderful Southbridge was. Sorry, had to bump it down to 2 stars because the hotel is extremely over-priced. Comfortable rooms, but equivalent to the size & amenities offered at similar Napa Valley hotels in the $250-300 range. My husband & I thought the "honor bar" basket filled with cheesy snacks & wine out on a side table was very tacky (really, are there people who pay $5 for a bag of popcorn in St Helena? Please put that stuff somewhere less obtrusive at least...). The recycling area for the associated restaurant was directly underneath our balcony (and, by extension, under most everyone's balcony because of the way the rooms are arranged). So, as we were enjoying a little decaf coffee & reading after dinner, there was the constant crashing/smashing of wine bottles. Lovely. Until about 11pm. The fitness center included in the cost is nice. There is a 3-lane, 25-yard pool which was perfectly usable early in the morning (it looked busier later in the day), and a nice locker room. There is a basic fitness area with weights & cardio equipment. The included breakfast is also fine-- there was plenty of fresh fruit (yay!), granola, and pastries, cereal, tea, coffee, juice. I would not stay here again, simply because there are quieter places with equivalent or better amenities for far less in neighboring towns (we will likely return to the Yountville Inn next time). read more

We were checked in to room 5, and that room was very large, including a fireplace and a very comfortable bed. the property is just the right size and very modern, without being creepy and old-style like a Bed & Breakfast, which I do not care for. the staff were all friendly, parking easy, and complimentary continental breakfast very fresh. We also ate at the on-properrty restaurant, Pizzeria Tra Vigne (which was excellent), and tasted/bought wine at the adjacent Merryvale Vineyards (hotel guests do not have to pay for wine tasting there). Pro-tip: if you plan on working in the room, and even if you don't, then, as soon as you arrive, gather everything in it you don't need (wine, wine magazines, 2nd telephones, marketing materials, other religions' books, etc.) and call housekeeping. The breakfast provided is adequate except no one replenished the eggs one morning and the coffee urns were mislabeled. We had no turn-down service although they claim to offer this service. We went here based on a recommendation and were not disappointed. The hotel is charming with lovely cascades of flowers over the balconies and a peaceful relaxing atmosphere. The hotel staff were polite and helpful. The rooms had a homey feel, with a fireplace and high ceilings and comfortable bedding...and illy espresso! We did not have time to visit the spa, but access to the spa would likely make a visit even better. The complimentary breakfast was light but complete and served in a comfortable living room. Clean, spacious rooms with high ceilings, mountain views, nice fireplace, friendly staff, relatively quiet location minus the banda/ranchera music blasting from someone enjoying their new years which is not the fault of the Inn. A pleasant place to stay right next door to Napa Health Club so you have access to their facilities if they'll open (note: very limited hours New Years eve weekend but I digress.) This is my choice of hotel whenever I go down to Napa. I love that there are only a few rooms which keeps it quiet and very serene. The room has a fireplace and it's own balcony. One bonus is that a spa is located just across the walkway. Lots of shopping and local restaurants nearby as well. Guest services were great. They accidentally charged me for a cookie or chocolate but as soon as I let them know they reversed charges and handled things professionally with no hassle. read more

I stayed here for a wedding at the end of January, I didn't have a lot of options left and booked the room through hotels tonight which I've had some unfortunate stays with before so I was pleasantly surprised with the hotel! Decor could maybe use a little update BUT the staff was very friendly! The location was perfect and the hotel was clean! The room was very spacious! BUT what I was most impressed by is that I left a necklace in the room and Michael Scott from guest services emailed me to see if I wanted it shipped to me! So they paid to have it mailed to me! I felt like that was going above and beyond! I wouldn't have even known where I left it if they hadn't reached out to me! It was very much appreciated and I think other businesses could learn a thing or two about customer service from them! Thanks for good stay! read more

The front desk clerk couldn't be nicer and the merryvale wine tasting was fun and delicious. Southbridge is a bit of a hidden jewel. It is located off Main St. in St. Helena in what appears to be a business park ( Although it is in the same building as Pizzeria Tre Vigne which is also the source for room service). Parking is generally easy to find although it can get busy during business or peak dining times. The staff was friendly and VERY helpful at check in. The deluxe room was spacious, as large as most suites in other hotels. With a very high ceiling ( We were on the 2nd floor) and as a result the bathroom was very light and airy. Like other places we've visited the fireplace added a less than ideal scent from past use and it wasn't something we were going to use on a warm summer evening. We were busy visiting family and didn't have time to use the spa. The bed was comfortable and lots of extra pillows were delivered promptly upon request. We enjoyed a wonderful nights sleep. Because we have family in the area we have stayed in a variety of places throughout the valley. In general we are unimpressed and stay once and don't return. The only exception has been the Harvest Inn, but now Southbridge will be another. read more

Southbridge is very plain and basic hotel .There is no extra amenities (no one to take your luggage upstairs,no newspaper etc..The location is good but if you are looking for the ritz this is not the place for you. read more

Since I couldn't afford to stay @ Meadowood - this is the next best thing in the area. Small quaint facility off the main road, yet quiet. Right across from Taylor's Refresher. Pizzeria Tra Vigne is located right below. All the rooms are located on the 2nd floor so you don't have to worry about noisy neighbors above. You have access to their lap pool, gym, and spa facility - just steps away. Guests also have limited access to some of the Meadowood facilities. Also, this hotel provides a daily complimentary continental breakfast w/ a good spread of yogurt, cottage cheese, cereals, variety of fresh pastries and fruits. I hope to back again. read more

We loved this inn. Great location ... Walking distance from cares, shops and great local restaurants like cook, martini house, press, market, tra vigne. It's lobby shares a charming quiet courtyard and fountain with the spa and pool of the napa health spa where you can swim or just hang out and read or order lunch from tra vigne pizzeria. Great gym but not many classes. Also good massages. We got up each morning, went for a long bike ride, then salad by the pool, then hit a winery like duck horn or quintessa then dinner. This is a great place. Only around 20 rooms. Highly personal service, really nice people. You get a buffet continental which is nice. You can walk to the town of St. Helena and enjoy the great restaurants & wine without worrying about driving. Much more reasonably priced than other inns in the area with similar amenities. We booked through Hotel Tonight, so if you can wait until a few days before travel to book you can get lucky too. read more
