Shoutout to Vulcan Towing & Recovery - Anchorage, Alaska On August 11, 2025 I set out to haul away a very old sailboat with a cracked hull and what I soon found out had a rotten trailer tire to the Anchorage Regional Landfill. The plan went sideways fast when one of the trailer tires blew out, the rim hit the road, and I had to limp into the Carr's Quality Center Aurora Village parking lot. A couple of towing companies told me flat-out, "No way, we're not set up to handle a boat." Then I called @Vulcan Towing & Recovery. Without hesitation, they said: "No problem, we'll be right there." Sure enough, they arrived quickly, and within 10 minutes had the boat safely loaded up and on its way to its final resting place. I was stranded this past week during a rough snow fall at JBER. My front bumper came off and was stuck in the snow. Needless to say, Vulcan came to the rescue! i have known and used vulcan towing for 30 years now or so, 5 star rating up until yesterday, never again will i use them, nor recommend them, in janury i had them move 2 tool boxes and 2 tool carts, took two trips from down in the port of anchorage to artic and international, cost a lil over 300 dollars, i was good with that, paid 350 dollars total, yesterday, for half the move, 1 trip, two boxes, from artic and international to dimond and old seward, 360 dollars, double what i paid last time, 1 trip, way better road conditions and half the trip mileage wise, oh, and you literally have to help them load your boxes, sorry justin, you just lost a lot of respect, and over the next 7 years or so i got left in my career as a tech, thousands of referals read more

I don't enjoy writing bad reviews but when a company proves to be incompetent I feel I should warn other possible customers . I had to take my car to the shop .I went to Agens Automotive .( review coming ) They called me the next day and told me my problem was computer related and they advised me to have it towed to the dealer. I called Vulcan towing at 2:45pm . I told them Agen's closes at 5:30 and they had to pick it up before then . My appointment with Chrysler was at 7:15 a.m.the next day , Friday . They assured me that wouldn't be a problem . At 5:28 the tow truck driver called me and told me he wasn't going to make it . Vulcan assured me ( ha once again ) that they would get my car at 8:00 am . My car finally made it to Chrysler at 10:00 am . Vulcan probably cost me two extra days of having to rent a car . read more

If you read on their web page it states u have to pay 125 to access your vehicle and any personal belongings in it. What ever you do DONT pay it you as an alaskan resident are protected by Alaska state Ordinance code 9.54.070 section C subsection 3 that states any tow operation may not charge the owner of a vehicle a fee in order to retrieve animals or personal possesions (not actual quote from ordinance code) in short they are holding your items for ransom which last time i checked is illegal Beyond legal issues the lady on the phone will lie to you if you ask to speak to a manager she says hold on goes silent and then gets back on and low and behold its same snooty stuck lady really wish i could really give it negative stars but not how the world works P.s. i will be taking them to small claims court and reporting to the BBB anyone who expierences the same issue stand up some one has to stop these crooks read more

Mafia in Alaska? These guys have more ways to squeeze money out of people! The mafia could probably learn from Vulcan! Towing fee, impound fee, storage fee, access fee, it goes on and on. Then they sell the vehicles at auction because most people can't afford to bail their car out, or end up owing more for the compounded fees than the car is even worth. It gets better. They sell your vehicle at auction, keep all the money, charge the buyer at the auction a 'buyer's fee', then have the nerve to tell the buyer "you can't legally remove the car you now own, you have to pay us to tow it to where you live". Wonder how much kickback the cops/city gets to let these greedy parasites stay in business? read more

Nothing against the drivers. I'm sure the drivers are all good guys who are great at their job. That said, this company does business for the city impounding vehicles from people who owe the Municipality money so that the vehicles can be held for ransom. That's the real situation. You can try to dress it up with legal words all you want but that's exactly what it is: they're taking the cars for ransom. The city then allows Vulcan Towing to charge the customer incredibly high rates as their end of the deal. My work truck was impounded by the Municipality of Anchorage for unpaid traffic tickets. After paying off the city for the tickets and fines and being charged another surprise $410 "administrative" fee which I wasn't prepared to pay, I was finally cleared to reclaim my truck (and all my tools), only to be hit with a $889.00 fee from Vulcan Towing. They wouldn't even let me retrieve one tool until I paid them. They had towed my truck only two miles. I realize they're a business and need to make a profit, but it's disgusting the way they squeeze you for more money when you're already hurting. read more

I was sent to Vulcan to retrieve a vehicle that had been towed. I live in the valley and my car was towed from the Glen Hwy. Exit area as if returning to the valley. It was towed to Anchorage. On the 2nd of Jan. I called on Friday to ask fees if picked up Mon. Was told tow fee plus $30.00xdy which would be $488.00 if picked up Mon. They specified MON! So out of concern I asked, what was the cost per day, once again. They said $30.00. So I was able to come next Wed. Thinking it would be an extra $60.00. They failed to tell me that on the 6th day there is an additional $300.00+ fee, for getting a copy of registration at DMV (which it was in the glove compartment, why go to DMV?) Even then, it is only a $2.00 charge for a copy of registration! Oh, and the cost of sending a notification to the registered owner , which they must sign for upon receiving. This is FREE at the post office! The most time this would take an employe as POSSIBLY 2 HOURS! Why was I not told about the fee on the 6th day?!? It ended up costing almost $900.00 to get my car. Very dishonest business practice as far as I am concerned. Even after I told them I had a bill of sale as well as a pending DMV title transfer they told me they were going to take me to collections if I didn't pay. I shouldn't pay a bill for property that isn't mine and the fact that they plan on putting a red mark on my credit to try and bully me into paying them is messed up. read more

Horrible service! I wanted to get my truck towed from Anchorage to Wasilla. My car was broken into, so the key couldn't get in. The tow truck could not tow my truck to Wasilla, because the wheels on my car couldn't turn! JOKE OF A TOWING COMPANY! Than they charged me $80 to go less than 5 miles to a car shop! CON's! The good thing about a towing company leaving you in the lurch is that you have plenty of time to write them the review they deserve while waiting for another tow company to come get you... I continue to have my F250 stuck with a flat on JBER right now because Vulcan told me a driver would be coming within 90 minutes of my call and no one ever arrived. When I called the company back, after sitting on hold with the most excruciating, awful jazz flute elevator music for 10 minutes, I was told they were unable to locate or contact their driver. Pretty unprofessional the whole way around. You are better off calling another company than risk being stranded by Vulcan as I was. read more

He gave reasonable price and came quickly. Once there he charged battery of suv to have power assist to get suv onto ramp to be hauled. Was respectful with hubby around. Once at storage place with just me he refused to let suv off ramp unless i paid EXTRA for the charge. Which of course he didnt say anything about that before hooking up or charging in the first place. So it ended up being almost twice the original price quoted. read more

Dead battery & needed to make a doctor's appointment. Car was in garage. Called Vulcan then AAA that said service would arrive in about an hour. Vulcan didn't wait for AAA order & arrived in 5 min after I called, jumped the battery & had me up & running 5 min later with time to spare for my appointment. Fast, polite, professional service! Pretty much the worst company in alaska, Mean, unhelpful and should be plain illegal, they have a contract with the police. My vehicle was stolen the person was caught and the police called vulcan towing to tow my car without contacting me prior to towing the vehicle. The police contacted me and said I should be able to get it out without charge, Called Vulcan and they said it was 350.00 and would not release the car until I paid in full...I did not have the money until pay day, at this point they have raised the price to almost 900.00. I called AAA and this company showed up. I was stalled in the road at an intersection blocking traffic. The guy that towed our car was quick and professional, even after his legs almost got ran over by a truck going too fast and too close to the flashing lights. I didn't get his name, but props to him for remaining calm and taking care of things even in the snow/ bad weather and shitty drivers on a busy street. read more

This company sold my car at auction ILLEGALLY. Im sure they do this to whomever they please too. They were complete assholes and tried to keep the money they sold my car for, which I was entitled to at the least. They tried to spout state statutes and laws that were false. They are degenerate fools that think they can have their way with people. They also were still providing me with updated impound fees weekly even after they were no longer in possession of my vehicle.
