We were…read morehaving a fall neighborhood stroll in the Lockerbie Square district this rainy fall past weekend and popped in here to check things out. What a treasure chest! The Whispering Shelf features a fabulous assortment of stationery/ cards, gifts, books with handwritten recommendations (always a sucker for these little personal touches from a bookstore) and an expensive children's section. I was especially enamored by the children's section and display. There were several interactive elements to keep kids busy while you peruse the shelves (smart!). They offer a variety of events throughout the month for book clubs, storytime and more. Can't wait for more future visits and to do our Christmas shopping here!

Their collection blends books and zines you haven't heard of yet with popular titles you often see and ones in between. They have a good range for different ages, too, with a nice young adult section, children's books, and middle grade as well as the plentiful shelves for adults. There's a local author shelf and there's a fun mix of local talent there in a variety of genres and age categories--plus sometimes, signed copies. They do carry some gift items like candles, and their custom stickers and apparel make me smile. The little book guys are fun! Tomorrow is well worth a stop if you're downtown. Whether you're wanting a book haul or supporting local with a sticker purchase, you'll find something here. Parking on Mass Ave is metered, but free on Sundays! There's also a parking garage nearby, and if you don't mind a walk, you may find some of the limited free street parking.

Back in 2000 it was called Golden Books. I was hired through a temp agency. The first day I was there the security guard told me where to go. He said, do you see the letter P? I replied yes and he said I am to go there. That was the only training I got from that place. I felt like a fish out of water and dreaded showing up there. I didn't know what I was doing most of the time cause of no training. I had this paper that you had to fill out after the end of each job. I asked this older guy how to fill it out. Instead of explaining he looks past me to my right and says hey he thinks it's time to leave then laughs. He then just walks away. I took the paper wadded it up and tossed it over my shoulder. This one lady said they should have somebody training him. I asked her for help and she proved to be a hypocrite and didn't help. I ended up quitting after week there. I had a bad experience and will not go back. Now to the current day. Last year I applied via indeed.com a job site. I eventually got a call from some lady that works at Random House. She interviewed me over the phone and said you have to be "fast,fast,fast,and you will be all over the place". Kinda took that as over reaction and a cut. Its a fast paced job like all places. For her to talk to me like that was silly and demeaning. I told her I worked there before back in 2000 and you guys didn't train me. She goes you worked here before? Later on in the call she said the supervisor won't be in till Tuesday and we will call you then about the job, okay? I said sure. Two hours later I got an EMAIL saying they hired somebody else. So they lied to me. If that "supervisor" wasn't there, then how did they make that decision? I think he was there. I never heard of a boss not being there every day. I will not work there due to this. I was lied to and talk to like a child. Referring to the fast fast fast and moving you all over the place. I am not stupid. Bad company!

I visited turn the page with a gift card and I loved their selection of books which was a combination of local Indy authors, best sellers and some really good picks by the store owners themselves. I had a great time chatting and picked up a book basis the book keeper and a friendly customers recommendation. The store is small but still houses lovely reading couches and a kids play area. This is a nice spot if you are looking for something quite but not too far! They have their own book clubs and authors book reading events so do check it out!

Their kids section is super cute and we found a fun scratch-and-sniff magnetic bookmark that we definitely walked away with. The shop owner was there and very kind when we spoke! This is the place where you'll find some used treasures, but also new books and and some rare and collectible books. Whenever I visit a new bookstore, I gravitate to the children's section. This bookstore has lots of children's books, from picture books to graphic novels. I saw some ancient Nancy Drew novels, with original covers. I'm not a Nancy Drew head, but I can appreciate a vintage mystery collection when I see one. One of the best things about Fallen Leaf Books is that they leave (leaf?) you the eff alone. I don't remember if anyone greeted me or talked to me, and frankly, I don't care. All I need in a bookstore is books and cozy nooks and quietude, and that's what you'll find here.

I browsed and shopped for quite awhile. I checked out the Science Fiction and Mystery sections for a long time. I perused the Wii, Wii U, PS2 & PS4 games too. I pretty much walked through the whole store and every section. The Historical section was interesting. They must have bought somebody's old Playboy collection because they were selling them as collector's items with each issue individually sleeved in plastic. Their latte prices are also as cheap as they can make them while still making a profit. A latte here would run you around $5 compared to the $8 or $9 at other cafes. They can also order any books you'd like if they don't have them in stock. Great book selection though and such friendly staff who are happy to help! This place is way more than a bookstore and cafe though- they host community events, have book clubs, hold poetry nights and more! You can really get involved in the community through a place like this! Wifi is good and free, plenty of space to study

Even with all the space they look pretty busy whenever I pass by, but that's only been on weekends, so it may be quieter during the week. On a weekend afternoon, though, you will not find quiet here. They have all the standard drinks you expect at a coffee shop and lots of fun specials, but the food selection is a little limited. I think they normally serve soup Mon-Sat but they were out when I got there. I got a bagel with schmear, a zebra (chocolate crinkle) cookie, and one of the February specials called "Opposites Attract" which was a raspberry chai latte. Everything I got was pretty good, especially the fresh, chewy zebra cookie. They warmed it up which made it just a little gooey. The raspberry chai was an interesting combination. i wasn't completely sold on the raspberry - I didn't dislike it but probably wouldn't get it again - but I think I liked the chai itself. The baristas and bookstore staff were all welcoming, and the vibe is very inclusive. I've come in and looked around the store a few times, and the staff seems approachable if you need anything but will leave you alone if you're just browsing.

Its a medium sized spot but they fit a childrens corner in. I was pleased to find vintage Richie Rich and Sugar and Spike comic books for 1.00. This was certainly a wonderful place to stumble upon which had alot of gems inside. The vintage type writers were a really cool touch as well. Everything about this place was inviting and warm. At the cash register I came across an assortment of stickers and if you know me, you know I love stickers..Of course I grabbed a couple to complete my purchase. There is a space right by the door that has a sitting area, the leather chair was so comfortable but it was thw huge leather ottoman for me and the chess set that makes you wanna learn to play, if you do t already no how too.
