My first visit to a dermatologist in many years and I am so glad I went to Waccamaw Dermatology. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I was sincerely blown away at how nice Dr Jenna Coakley was as well as Emily her assistant.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]They left everything up to me to decide on what they would look at regarding concerns and since I am body shy they allowed me to stay fully dressed and just moved my clothing aside just enough to expose the skin tag /growth concerns[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] . I had 3 frozen and 1 removed and there was very little discomfort. No pain. I am glad I chose this practice and for sure this Doctor ! Super nice and accommodating. read more

[[HIGHLIGHT]]The only reason I give this even one star is for Dr. Coakley and Chesea Clay (wound specialist).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Otherwise, run, don walk, away from this organization. I had Mohs on my face over a year ago; Dr. Coakley could not have done a better job or been more professional. In April of this year, I had Mohs on my leg, this time done by Dr. Lucariello. I did not appreciate his unprofessional attitude nor the fact that I was not made aware that the place on my leg could be worse than it appeared. I believe Mohs was pushed as the "only effective treatment" when Gentle Cure radiation was available (though not at the location I used; however, I would have driven to another location). Had I known how large an area of skin would be removed, the horrible process of healing involved, or the scar it would leave, I would have never consented to this procedure. [[HIGHLIGHT]]As for follow up care, Chelsea was helpful, but there was no getting a prescription called in or even a text message asking if I was any better[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. I had a brief follow up with Dr. Lucariello which consisted of nothing more than a cursory glance at my leg. This was only after appointments with the wound care specialist did not provide pain relief (and I had requested a meeting with the office manager). I got a "Sorry, you're having so much trouble" and "No one looks at your lower leg" when I expressed concern over the pain and the scar that was being left. Not nearly as sorry as I have been for choosing this practice, this doctor, or this procedure. My dogs get better follow up from their vet. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I have never been able to talk with the office manager although I have tried numerous times.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I surmise that once insurance paid for this debacle, they were done with me. Since you may not get Dr. Coakley, particularly if the skin cancer is not on your head or neck, seek treatment elsewhere. I wish I had. Now, I will have to look for someone (at another practice) to do laser resurfacing if I am ever going to wear shorts or dresses again. read more

I am being generous giving this place 2 stars. I can go into great detail because I wrote down a lot of things that bothered me. I'll spare you the great detail, and give you the highlights. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ultimately, I think this place is very poorly run. There is nothing remotely welcoming[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. [[HIGHLIGHT]]If you go to a reception window after waiting in line, you might be sent to the window a few feet from it to wait in line again, because some receptionists will only perform certain duties.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]They appear to hate their jobs as much as I hated going there.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I've been there many times and have ALWAYS had to wait a minimum of 30 minutes past my scheduled time, just to be taken back to a room. And, of course, this is where I sit and wait again for a medical professional to see me. Notice I didn't say doctor. Ok, great. Probably competent, so let's go with that. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When I did see a very pleasant nurse practitioner (a welcome personality after dealing with the drudgery of the reception area), I told her that my fiancé (also a nurse) noticed something that I should have looked at and needed to have my skin checked.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Everywhere. Embarrassing, but ok. I told the NP that and she began looking me over with her gadget. She found some spots and was to perform a biopsy. Well, I hadn't been looked over everywhere and she began negotiating with me as to what was necessary. I told her again that my fiancé (nurse) was the one pushing this and everything should be checked out. Seriously, it was embarrassing enough and now I have to tell her to check me out, which I honestly didn't want her to do. Well, guess what, she gave a quick glance without the eye thingy at a distance. So, I didn't actually get checked out thoroughly. Whatever. I didn't want it anyway. And what are the odds that I had cancer? 100% actually. One of the biopsies came back positive positive for Stage 0 Melanoma. I schedule a surgical procedure for February. I get to the facility and sit for 30 minutes, per the norm. Finally get taken back to have my cancer removed. I was told what was going to happen. I was given a choice between a larger eye shaped wound that will be stitched and make me less mobile for a time or I could have a quarter sized would that need some care but I could stay mobile. I chose to stay mobile. Made sense given the info I received. MOHS was never offered and I only found out about it after I had a gaping hole in my leg. What I wasn't told was how big and nasty this scar would be. What I hear virtually any time a see a family member or friend is, "What the hell happened there?!" When I went back for my post op visit (and waited for 30 minutes past my scheduled appt) the NP looked stunned at what my wound looked like 2 months later, even though I was religious about the prescribed wound care. Date a nurse. You won't escape methodical wound care. And they want me to come back every three months to check my skin for cancer. Not a chance. Follow ups cancelled. They waste my time. They sap my happiness every visit. They gave me a scar that people point at. I don't really care, but the people that ask me about the scar all the time sure seem to. Hey, maybe it's just this office and not the whole organization, but I'll definitely look elsewhere to find treatment. Maybe another Waccamaw, but not this one. [[HIGHLIGHT]]And "Sorry that you had a bad experience. Please contact our customer care team. " won't do any good. Every time I went there, I have had a bad experience. The problem is systemic[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. Again, 2 stars is being generous. read more

They found skin cancer and went out of the way to reach out continuously to ensure I knew next steps and if they could help answer any questions. On 6/23/25, I went to see Jenna Coakley for my 6-month check. Upon arriving in the exam room, I spoke to her assistant, Bethany and expressed my concern about not having bloodwork done since 12/2023. She then told me that her records said I went to Labcorp in January and I was also given bloodwork in April at my last appointment on 4/10/25. I told her that I only see Jenna 2 times a year, June and December. She argued with me that I was there 2 months ago, to which I replied that was incorrect. She left the room, came back 5 minutes later and said that Jenna also said I was here in April and they have notes on my visit. I told her I did not have my glasses with me and was unable read what had been written. I told her I had some very bad insect bites I wanted Jenna to look at. Bethany told me that I was only allowed 1 symptom check per visit. I needed to decide if I wanted Jenna to examine my scalp as I was having issues with the medication she prescribed, or if I wanted a body check. I decided on the body check. Jenna came in shortly and reiterated that yes, she saw me 2 months ago. I reiterated again that I was not there 2 months ago. They both chimed in that I was there in April. I was very upset the entire ride home. When I got home, I checked my calendar and saw that there was nothing on my calendar for April. I then went onto Labcorp's website and verified that the only time I went for blood work for Waccamaw Dermatology was 12/21/2023. The medication I am on requires blood work once a year. I called Waccamaw up and asked the person that answered the phone when my last appointment was other than today. She replied 12/11/24. I did not hear anything back from Waccamaw. I called the next day to ask who Jenna reports to and was told it is Heather Zolabek. I called Heather 3 times, every other day and left the same message asking for a call back and clarification if my personal information had been given to another patient. I still have not received a return call from anyone at Waccamaw. After 10 days, I called the office back and asked who Heather reports to and was told it was Alicia Clark. In the next few days, I called Alicia twice and did not receive a response. I also had a biopsy done 3 weeks ago and never heard back from anyone from Waccamaw regarding the results. I am understandably frustrated with this terrible office practices and would appreciate responses and results of my biopsy immediately. read more

I have had many Dermatologists over the years and usually they are very quick to ask what your concerns are address them and be done. Olivia Miller was the first to do a whole body check and mark on a chart my freckles or age spots. She is very thorough and I have referred others to go see her. I have complete confidence in my care with her. I appreciate the texts to remind me of when my appointments are. Overall I highly recommend Waccamaw Dermatology. read more

Arrived for my appointment after leaving work early, only to arrive and be told that the doctor is running OVER AN HOUR behind. No call, no warning, nothing. I asked why and was just told "this is common." Clearly a lack of respect for others' time and incredibly unprofessional. read more

Starting from the nice lobby and the warm reception as soon as you walk in the door. The staff is superb. Doctor came out and shook my hand after my 89 year old father had cancer cut out the top of his head. She went above and beyond.. Highly recommend. I wouldn't go anywhere else. read more

Waited over 2 months for an appointment. Arrived 10 minutes early into a packed waiting room. Waited 35 minutes past my appoint. time and was still not called in. When I got up to leave, there was a line in front of the reception area so I left, refusing to stand in line yet AGAIN to tell the desk I was leaving. 45 minutes after my appt., I received a call from a rude, belligerent girl demanding I pay for the visit and that patients mush wait "a few minutes" This practice overbooks, packs people in like rats and expects patients to put up with rude office girls yelling at patients for leaving. I hope the Drs. see this review and fire the staff for over booking and treating their patients disrespectfully. 45 minutes is unacceptable! wait time but worse is a toddler raising her voice to a patient that will not tolerate poor scheduling practices or front desk staff trying to force patients to PAY for it. What a disgusting disgrace. read more
