Absolutely wonderful staff! We rushed in with our 14.5 yr old peekapoo who was in heart failure (she was diagnosed a year earlier) but her symptoms had worsened she was at the end, it was heartbreaking but this staff (on 4th of July no less!) was SO compassionate & patient. I had to make 3 visits. First was unknown pain with my catahoula, her symptoms presented as a back injury, but it wasn't, vet caught cancer on her leg and had me follow up with our regular vet asp, and sure enough, it was and surgery was done and she recovered. Next visit was for our big boy, copperhead bite, they treated him quickly and sent us on our way, and 2.5 weeks later we came back, our boy had collapsed after tracking scents in the yard, immediately they caught that it was another snakebite, and determined to be rattlesnake. It was serious, he stayed 24 hrs and was released. We've got a long road of wound care and such, but they saved him. I've had nothing but great care and they saved both our pups lives. The vets have taken their time listening and explaining, very patient and caring. Top notch!! read more

IMO The only reason we even went here is we Had No other choice. We needed to get our dog to a vet asap... wish I had read the other reviews first, I would have gladly driven to Temple or somewhere else . so do yourself and your pet a favor and read all the recent reviews.(to make your decision.) but as for me , I will never use this place again. They told me they would email everything they did to his primary veterinarian. I even asked before I walked out. They kept coming up with some lame excuse as to why they would not do it right then.. so naturally when I got to our primary veterinarian. They could not get hold of anyone here. And clearly they had already closed and left the office without emailing any information... I didn't really get good vibes when I walked in. The receptionist was very unfriendly . I should've listened to my gut instincts and left. This place is a complete waste of money. They have clearly changed staff /doctors. Brought our cat Little Girl into the clinic due to not eating or drinking. Had Kirby as our LVT and Dr Wilson as her doctor. They were wonderful treating her. Very caring towards our girl, and very knowledgeable in diagnosing and treating our girl. Little Girl is eating and drinking, still recovering, but is doing so much better. Lilly, my 1 year old dog was not eating, nor moving.  We are here from Virginia and I am grateful for the staff at Waco Animal Emergency they saw Lilly and ran a few simple test, gave us meds to help so she will settle her GI tract and be able to eat!  While there several others came in with real life threatening emergencies and the staff were quick to take care of them.  I had a great experience and am grateful for their treatment of Lilly! read more

Epic Fail! I LOVE my dogs. BUT this place makes you TELL them a Dollar amount you are willing to spend BEFORE they tell You what it cost. NO SET Prices! Took my dog back like She was gold, until I finally gave theman amount I was willing to pay. Then they said they would be back with an estimate. You can Bet it was going to Be the exact $ amount I said I Would pay. No, " this is what we need to do. heres what it will cost." oh no. it's how much will you pay? then We will give you an ESTIMATE! They wouldn't take my hurting dying dog until he passed away on his own because they were "full". My mother didn't even get to say bye to him, they just took him in the back, asked for their money and that's the last time we heard from them. Staff was very upbeat and polite. Went in with my 17 year old dog who was having severe coughing. The vet did a physical exam and I explained I only had $200 dollars in my checking account. I hate having to say that, makes me feel like a complete loser but times are tough for me right now. They thanked me for telling them that and diagnosed her with a cough and "prescribed" cough tablets. That was $155, $125 for the visit and $30 for the cough tablets. I later looked online and saw you can order these tablets online without a prescription - 50 for $10. WHAT A MARK UP! Here's the best part, they didn't help at all and I spent $155 dollars on the vet telling me something I already diagnosed. So I'm broke and my dogs still sick. My dog got into a lot of Ibuprofen and I rushed him to this clinic. I was terrified and in shock, I knew it was bad before I even got there. They took him straight in and started doing what they could. The doctor gave me facts and was thoughtful and sympathetic, he came in to speak with me multiple times because I had more and more questions. Putting my dog to sleep was the toughest decision I have ever had to make and this clinic did an amazing job from the technicians to the doctors. Yes, it cost money because business need money to stay in business. They allowed me all the time I needed to say goodbye and my baby boy died in my arms. Their jobs can't be easy, but they made one of the hardest days of my life as comforting as they possibly could. My pup had a short three years, but he had the best three years a pup could read more

This place is a joke!! I took my sick puppy that had parvo to this place. Told them he had parvo. They charged $363 that had to be paid upfront to test him. I informed them before I got there that I didn't qualify for care credit & I had limited income. Then they gave me a quote of $4306.16 for a one day treatment for my puppy. This had to be paid upfront. I couldn't pay it and they wouldn't even give me a prescription for an antibiotic. Basically I was turned away because I couldn't afford to pay the money they wanted. They don't care about your pet. All they care about is your money. By the way, my puppy died despite everything I was doing to care for him. The rating I give is a zero. PLEASE, please, please read the other one star reviews from other people about this "emergency vet clinic." Because if you want your animals to receive emergency care, this is NOT the place for that!! They schedule in surgeries, which makes their veterinarian (they only have one on staff??) unavailable to address emergency care. We sped up the highway from McGregor as my dog, who got bit by something on the face, was having a hard time breathing due to swelling. When we walked in the lobby was completely empty, however the lady upfront told us that we could not be seen because they had SCHEDULED surgeries and were about ready to start. She then proceeded to tell us that we would have to drive all the way down to Temple! 45 minutes away!! This was so distressing and upsetting to hear, because we had nowhere else to go for emergency vet care on the weekend. It makes me sick to my stomach that this place can advertise their services for emergency care, and then simply turn people away because of their business practices; and makes me even more sad to read the reviews so similar to mine where people have lost their animals because of these unethical practices. Thankfully, our animal pulled through and we were able to consult with our local veterinarian. However it scares me to death that if my animal has another emergency after hours I will have nowhere to turn to. read more

My heart is broken. And my poor 16 month old baby died in my arms under cardiac arrest being turned away from this unethical ER. A the ONE & ONLY ER clinic in McLennan County (we are a rancher's county too with thousands of animals) turned us away at 2:30a Friday night when my baby could NOT breath or lay down to sleep, or sleep for that matter, he suddenly died from cardiac arrest. Thanks to this clinic, my baby had no chance of being saved. They said "ma'am it's our policy when the clinic is booked up" "ma'am it's our policy, we only have one doctor at all times" someone should tell you YOUR POLICIES ARE UNETHICAL!!!!!! Brought our in distress pregnant dog in, Instead of taking us into a room to wait, they made us sit in the lobby while the dog began to give birth to the first puppy breach. We had to call to have the vet tech come out, who says has that puppy been hanging out of her long, not a let me help. But stands over my wife while she's pulling the puppy out. Then the vet Pat Griffin came out snapped his fingers like we're a fricken animal and directed us into an exam room. Where he proceeded to talk to us in a condescending and out right rude manner. To the point that I had to raise my voice. I wouldn't take my dead hamster to these people. They're a complete fricken joke. Cottonwood Creek will be getting my business from here on out. My dog was 14 years old and she wasn't doing well I called them before I went in and told them her conditions and they said they would keep an eye out for us when we got there! When we arrived the woman at the front desk was super nice and explained that the vet or technician could go over pricing with us before they did anything with my baby. They were very considerate of the situation and answered all of my questions no hesitation unfortunately I had to go the route of putting her to sleep peacefully but they were so respectful and gave me all the time I needed. I held her as she crossed the rainbow bridge and they only came back in when I decided it was time to let her go. They even explained the cremation options for me and how that process works and how long it takes and I actually got her back already and it's only been a week! read more

this is where yo I go if you want them to kill your pet. They didn't ask me if we wanted to see her, which with all our other pets at other emergency hospitals they always ask if we would like to see her and make a decision based on how our pet is doing. all they would keep saying is she's not doing good. they took over30-45 minutes to come give us an update. then when we said we wanted to take her home. doctor comes back a few minutes later to tell us she passed. extremely suspicious. our pet was very calm and extremely sweet, when she was handed over to us, she passed looked extremely afraid. do no trust this place with your loving pet. good thing money was not a problem to us, we were using care credit before we used our own debit card, but we had set no limit on how much we will willing to invest, as long as they are willing to invest their time. they didn't want to invest the time. I highly suggest you take your loving family member somewhere else. I wish these doctors didn't have a chip on their shoulder and actually cared for our pets instead of their wallets. I beg you to not make the same mistake. This place should never be an option. read more

Had to go to Waco Emergency Clinic for my cat. I knew it was very bad and chose to have my sweet boy put to sleep because he was in so much pain. I asked Dr. Haberman what could have caused his back legs to suddenly become paralyzed. She said it was probably his heart. I asked "did you listen to his heart." She said "you said you didn't want an exam." (The exam fee was 125.00.) I said "it costs 125.00 just to listen to his heart?" She nodded yes. Since when is listening to the animals heart, which takes a few seconds, considered an exam. I don't know if it's the policy of the clinic or just a cold hearted doctor. Very nice and easy to get to. Pricey of course. They get 4 stars because on a weekend evening I called and wanted to bring my pet ,that was struggling to breath, in to be seen. The girl on the phone said it would cost $750 just to be seen. That wasn't including what might need to be done for my pet. I'm assuming it was because it was after reg. hours and maybe someone would have to be called in? It still was craziness to ask that much. I just had to watch my pet suffer. Fortunately he made it through that episode. I can't even imagine how terrible it would be if they had been run over or something. This is taking advantage of people at their lowest point. I'm surprised they have any business at all. I have taken a pet in during daytime hours and it was $135 which is bad enough but more doable. I was pleased with the service on that day. What a shame people have to be put in a position to have to make a choice to go broke or watch your pet family member suffer. They are so much more than "just" animals. read more

I found a 3-4 week old kitten in my wall and so I tried to help it and it was not doing well. I took it to the emergency clinic and they helped us with a very reasonable price. Although it didn't save my little wall kitty, it did give me an extra week with him. They were helpful and kind. When he passed they put him in a little body bag for me free of charge. I spoke multiple times with a variety of people who work here including the vets that were taking care of my cat and every time anyone would refer to my cat they would refer to his as a girl. He is a male cat. They should of been taking his temperature multiple times how did they not see that he was a male or did no one even look at his intake sheet? This even happen during they actual visits while I was there not just when I talked to someone on the phone. Also he is an otherwise healthy one year old cat and it took them a regular visit and an overnight visit just to figure out he has a uti... other than that everyone who works here was very polite :/ read more

Could not answer the simplest of questions when our dog was in their custody and attitude when asking questions. Not a good experience . HUGE Shout out to Schanece - head Tech and head of operations at WAEC - she oversees everything and keeps everything running as smooth as butter - also she makes sure you don't leave without having all your concerns and questions answered. I brought in my dog who was attacked by two other dogs - actually I brought him twice because he developed some problems - without her - I would have really lost it - she could take the intensity of my concerns and my two pages of notes were no problem and she stayed 90 minutes past her time to go home to be sure my dog and I were good to go. read more

I'm just now able to finally write this. The same place that saved my girl Chihuahua years ago let me down and let her die. She was attacked by 2 big dogs and I took her in. The vet did xrays and some stitches, the wound was not very big. I took her home but she never acted right. The next night she really took a turn for the worse, her breathing was labored and she was refusing to eat or drink. I knew something was very wrong. I took her back and I recognized the same vet tech from the night before. I'm not sure if it's because I protested spending so much (my other Chihuahua was also attacked a few months before, but the cost was only 1/3 of what they wanted that day), but she was not helpful. I felt like she told the receptionist not to bother with me because they thought I didn't have the money (I did have plenty of money, I would have emptied my entire account to save my dog's life). They were busy, but all I wanted was for someone to check her breathing and heart. The receptionist came back and said the vet said going by my dog's previous night's chart, she would be fine. I went against my gut and believed them. My sweet girl died later that night. I lost my mind, if I had known she was in danger of dying I would have driven to Temple or Dallas or Austin. I'm pretty sure it was internal bleeding because I noticed purplish bruising at the bottom of her stomach. I noticed it too late after she died because I kept her in a soft carrier under blankets for her to recover. Any trained vet tech or vet could have figured out in 2 minutes my dog was dying and needed surgery, but they literally refused to even look. It still hurts so much. I truly think it was that one vet tech who unilaterally decided that me and my dying dog weren't worth her time. read more

I brought Baxter (my 1 1/2 year old Lab/Retriever mix) there on Saturday because he was vomiting for 3 days straight. We suspected he probably had a blockage since he eats everything! Upon further testing, the vet informed us that our sweet Baxter had PARVO! I was devastated because I have always thought death was pretty much inevitable with Parvo & couldn't bare losing my sweet boy. They told me he had a 50/50 chance of making it & recommend he be hospitalized there for treatment overnight. He ended up staying there Saturday and Sunday night before I had to transfer him to a regular vet since there clonic is only open after hours. During the time Baxter was there he received amazing care & the staff were all amazing with me. They answered my calls to check on him throughout the day & night and also called me for updates. The vet tech caring for Baxter (I believe her name was Destiny) even text messaged me a photo of my sweet boy because she knew how bad I was worrying and missed him. By the time we picks him up to transfer on Monday he was doing better and I knew there was hope! After spending a few more nights at the vet, Baxter is now home & doing AMAZING! You'd never even know he had Parvo & his chances of making it didn't look good just a week ago! I couldn't be more thankful for the staff here! Although I pray we never have to make another emergency vet trip, I know that if we do my babies will be in great hands. read more

Although the staff was super nice and caring, I was really disappointed in the care my 8 yo chihuahua/pug dog received. The whole day before we took him in he was bent over in pain and could barely walk and when he tried to pick him up he would cry and try to bite us. We had just adopted him a couple months before so we were really scared something was wrong so we took him in. After paying $400 for x-rays, sedation, and medication (only basic pain) the vet basically said "he's probably just got old man syndrome". My dog has had 2 of those spells since and it breaks my heart, but I'm not a vet so I don't know how to help him besides just letting him rest until it passes. I was hoping they could give me some concrete answers or even suggestions so I wouldn't have to go looking for answers somewhere else. read more

We lost our babygirl, Nala, due to a car hitting her and taking off like she was nothing. We took her to Waco Animal Emergency Clinic to be cremated. Both my daughter and I were very distraught and upset. They were so caring and concerned. They carried our baby and held her with the utmost gentleness, much like they would do if she was alive. They even cleaned her up and let us sit with her as long as we needed. I am so grateful for all that they did that horrible night. Just feeling like someone else cared helped tremendously. Recently my baby passed away and as hard as this has been for me I couldn't be more thankful for the individuals who work for this veterinarian office. They not only treated me with respect (even with uncontrollable sobbing), but they treated my darling cat with kindness and love even after he passed. They worked with me on the price, walked me through the process, and brought out a decorated coffin which honored my Amos Moses. I've never had to experience something like this and I hope I won't have to again, however the ladies on shift that Sunday more eased my burdens just a little bit. Thank you, thank you! While in Waco, my dog was bitten on a Friday evening, in two places, by a strangers dog. The injuries didn't seem too severe, but I was worried about potential infections. Not knowing any vets here, I went on to Yelp, to find the only clinic open on a Saturday was the Waco Animal Emergency Clinic. I called early in the morning and they said come on in, first come, first served. The staff was very helpful and professional all throughout my visit. The took excellent care of my dog, who thankfully wasn't badly hurt. I didn't find the cost to be out of line with what I would expect to pay for an "Emergency Room", as opposed to a normal vet office, visit.
