I don't live in the South and had NEVER eaten at a Waffle House and decided to give them a try. Pretty well organized chain diner. Saw the "House Rules" sign as I walked in. Noticed it said to seat yourself. Place was pretty empty and was about to sit in a booth when I saw the sign that said they are for two or more people only. Went to the bar/counter and grabbed a seat. Was impressed with the friendly staff and the banter between servers and cooks. They seemed to be having a good time. Counter view watching the cooks was also fun. Ordered the popular combo with eggs over easy, toast, grits. Bacon, and waffle. Everything was good and I see why the waffle carries the chain name. Nothing fancy here but prices are cheap and service was good. Won't be my last time coming!

I've never been to a "Waffle House" ever! Why did I wait so long? This place was incredible. I was heading back to New York when I needed to gas up. I drove past this diner and decided, why not, so I when after I filled up. There was plenty of parking at 5am so that was good. Outside the place doesn't look like much. It has the iconic Waffle House yellow sign and that about all I knew about this place. Inside, there were only two ladies working. One of them was teresa, the waitress. She was stern, but friendly and took my order. I thought because this was a chain the food would be generic. But I saw them pull out real bacon and crack egg which they scrambled with cheese. They served hot coffee and refills are free. But the food took first place. I couldn't believe how good this breakfast was. The bacon crunchy, the eggs cheesy, and the grits, were maybe only the way the south can do! I was definitely surprised about Waffle House. If you're driving for hours and need to fill up, Waffle House is definitely your next stop.

How long has it been since you have heard something like that? Talk to the waitresses here... you will hear things like "I've been here for 19 years, and just love the place." These are the sort of people who you just know are the best grandparents on the planet. I've been a few times for Breakfast and have enjoyed every meal I have had... BTW their Sour Dough Toast is the best... I usually get the special, two eggs, bacon, toast, grits... I know it's hard to mess up breakfast. The coffee is good. The service is just like I got from my grandparents. These people are the salt of the earth. More than once I've given $100 for a tip. Yesterday morning the lady checking me out said "I think you made a mistake on your tip." I said "No Ma'am, I was shooting for 200% and that's pretty close"... She offered me a piece of cake to take home. :-) These people are simply your grandparents, your Sunday school teachers, Aunt "B" from Mayberry... I'm always on the hunt for Old Style Family restaurant's and this place did not disappoint. A lot of choices on the menu, decided to try their Club Sandwich. The bread was some of the best on a sandwich I have ever had, nice and soft and not too little or too much bread where it overpowers the rest of the sandwich. Every bit of the sandwich and fries was tasty (picture was from their website- forgot to take one). The service was friendly, didn't take long at all before we had our food and they were attentive but not annoying. For those that love the old style family restaurant's, this is a must visit.

I went in the Farmer's Market first. It looks like an old barn. There were lots and lots of homemade choices- "canned" soup bases, fruits, vegetables, salsas, jams, flavored oils to name a few. There were also fresh fruits, nuts, honey, vegetables, dairy products and cakes. There are four areas you can eat. The main "restaurant" is small with only a few tables. Evidently it's a favorite of older local gentlemen to gather for an early breakfast. There is also the "Pig Sty," "The Chicken Coop" and the farmer's market area. Some of these can be cold in the winter and warm in the summer so dress accordingly. The farmer's market area is heated by a wood stove. The staff here are so friendly. It felt like we were visiting family. The food was good ole country food. The hubby and I each ordered the breakfast plate. I had coffee with my choice of several flavored creamers. If you pay in cash you get a discount. If you are in the area you should check it out. You can order from the breakfast or lunch menu. Plan to stay a few extra minutes and look around and support local farmers. We brought home some boiled peanuts. Fun experience and good breakfast.

One side has a bakery where you can watch the delicious goodies being made. The other side is a small cafe. Although there is limited seating I have never had to wait for a table. I haven't gone on the weekend (pretty sure the Sunday morning brunch would be a different story). A friend and I met for lunch at 1:00 pm on a Wednesday. My friend had the Café Club with the pasta salad and a sweet tea. I had the Quiche of the Day, the pasta salad and a hot cup of Clemson Sunrise (Vanilla, Caramel & White Mocha). The pasta salad wasn't my favorite-next time I'll give the potato salad a try. The service and food were very good. The café closed at 2:00 pm. Since we were still visiting, my friend and I grabbed our drinks and walked a few steps to the center of the lovely town square and found a swing to continue our conversation...but that's for another review. The Village Bakery & Café is worth a visit whether it's to grab something from the bakery and enjoy a cup of coffee or to meet a friend for breakfast or lunch. Lovely outing.
