a waffle on a plate with a cup of orange juice
    Halley M.

This was my first visit to a Waffle House. It was everything I hoped it would be. The waffles were suprisingly good. Like really good. The bacon was fantastic. The orange juice and coffee were terrible. The service was perfectly mediocre. Our waitress asked us if we'd like her to wipe off our sticky table when we first sat down... We said yes. The ambiance was exactly what you'd expect at a Waffle House in a small town in Virginia. I went next door to the Shell gas station to use the bathroom. I'll probably be back.

After being seated, the service was prompt and friendly. Enjoyed a cup of potato soup and fresh salad to start. The arrival of the entrées was perfect. Thought that was high but commensurate with hotel rooms in the area.... Checked out and got a bill for $400 per night at a total of $904.... When I questioned the charge the lady at the desk told me that the increase was due to an "event" rate.... I showed her my original confirmation email for the inn back on 11/30/25 and she said she was sorry, but that event pricing overruled that rate.... I said this sounds like bait and switch and she was totally uncaring.... Make sure when you book that this does not happen to you.... As for the inn, our room was "old" and while I was expecting an older experience I was not expecting cracks in the walls, a lamp on the ceiling with a chunk out of it, a broken window pane and a old a/c unit in the room that made the whole room feel damp.... The room also smelled so badly of mildew that I'd like to know how the department of health allows the hotel to operate.... No, I will never stay here again.... It should probably be shut down due to the scam nature of the whole experience....

We actually tried eating here a few months prior but the wait was nearly 2 hours long. This go around we had no wait. We were immediately sat and our drink orders were taken. Both my daughter and I chose apple juice. We also ordered a small appetizer b/c she was starving. The appetizer was yummy, can't remember what it was called but it was basically like doughnuts without the caramel it comes with. Our server was a young man and he did a fantastic job. He was very attentive to our table and our needs. The food was amazing, now I see why there was a 2 hour wait last time. I rarely eat other people's grits but these were pretty tasty and cooked just right. When I got my check I was in total shock though. Two apple juices (with no refills mind you) were approx. $5 a piece. WTF, why so expensive? I could have purchased a large jug of apple juice from Kroger. Yeah, I know I sound cheap. Nope, that the case just shocked at the price of a small glass of apple juice was with again no refills. We will definitely return next time I visit but we won't get apple juice again, we will stick to water.

Very popular place, service was very quick and food was great. Large selection…read more Go Hokies!!

We came in on the morning of 11/16 after we checked out of Main St Inn. Our plan was to grab a late…read morebreakfast, do a little shopping, tour Blacksburg to witness how much it's changed, then attend the basketball game. Joe's was a nice start to the day as they provide good food and good service within a tiny, but capable venue. Joe's is located near the Main St-College Ave intersection, next door to Hokie Hair (mind you, College Ave is no longer open to traffic, it's now a huge sidewalk). They are small and, since all the buildings along this portion of Main St are older, its interior is dark and dated. A makeover could be in order, but its old school look and feel lends itself to the friendly small town vibe I've become accustomed to in Blacksburg. This diner was nearly full, so we sat at the bar. There were three servers on the floor - all students. All three were friendly, helpful and loquacious (we talked about college in general, how to take advantage of a college's resources, and even discussed desired future outcomes of their educations - plenty of interesting topics for a chill Sunday morning). Neal had the t-bone steak and eggs, while I ordered a dish known as Joetaters (diced potatoes, cheddar jack, eggs, onions, peppers, tomatoes, mushrooms; and a choice of either bacon, ham, country ham, or sausage). Joetaters also came with a choice of white or wheat toast (or you can choose a biscuit for an extra $1.50). I chose wheat toast, and the entree was excellent. Neal ate his entire meal, so it's safe to say we enjoyed our food. Joe's is an excellent diner with awesome food and service. I can't wait to dine there again when I return. Thank you, Joe's Diner!
