I had a surprisingly pleasant dining experience at this Waffle House. We arrived a little before noon on Sunday to grab breakfast. We sat at the counter/bar because the tables were full. Someone opened the door for us and cleaned off the area to seat us (perfect timing). The waitress was pleasant and took our orders and we received a good meal that was quick. You know how they say the dirtier the Waffle House the better the food? The meaner the staff, the better you'll enjoy your meal? Well maybe it's been a while since I've been to Waffle House but something's happened to the staff at this one cause they were on it! When we walked in, there weren't any seats open but one of the servers spoke to us immediately and told us to hold on while he cleaned off a spot for us to sit down as a group just left. We sat down and the usuals, menus, waters, orders taken. As we waited, I noticed how organized they run. They seemed to work together very well and communicated clearly to each other. I'm amazed cause this is just not the norm at the WHs I've gone to. Pleasantly surprised and the food was so good as always! First of all, let me be perfectly clear. I worked for Waffle House after high school while I was attending college so it holds a special place in my heart. Second, it's a freaking American holy land. Third, if you don't like Bert's chili on some scattered smothered, covered browns, then get off Yelp. Now. Ok. It is up to each location and their management / employees to make sure the experience is up to my high standards. All waffle houses are not created equal. This particular location is an absolute gem! The staff was so welcoming and service oriented. The place was spotless. The food was on point, came out all at once, and wasn't wrong! I tipped the waitress $30. It's a hard life. Not everyone is doing this to work through college. Most aren't. I love the yellow beacon of hope and will always take care of my family. Tables were dirty when we came in and when they wiped one down for us, I only halfway wipe the table where we would be sitting and I had to get napkins to dry off the table. We always enjoy stopping in for grub when we travel. Have stopped at this very one for 9 years. Today, however will change that. We ordered a meal with a waffle. Were asked if we wanted the Mardi Gras waffle so we opted to try it. The waffle was very good but we were not told it was $1.50 each extra. This is not cool and it will cost the waitresses if this is how they are trained. If you are charging extra for something it should be disclosed to the customer. Clean! I'm not saying that this is a franchise known for grime, but when a lot of your food is cooked on a flat top, oil can get into some interesting places. I sit at the counter at any Waffle House I go to. Why? Because 50 years ago I wouldn't be allowed to sit there. Maybe I wouldn't be allowed inside Waffle House. How old is Waffle House anyway? Ok, the first Waffle House opened on Labor Day weekend, 1955 at 2719 East College Avenue in Avondale Estates, Georgia...so yeah, I definitely would not have been allowed to eat there, let alone sit at the counter. Not sure if I'd be safe anywhere in Georgia either. But I'm safe here now and that's all that matters. Because the first time I tried hash browns smothered, diced, and peppered was a magical moment. Good food good service! Consistent food wherever we go. Hubby loves the omelets anytime of the day. I got a simple chicken salad. Chicken is never dry. Cheap simple food when traveling. The worst service by far today. Believe the waitress was Kimberly. We had to wait for refills, didn't get our waffle with our breakfast, had to ask for it. Went to check out and stood waiting for a while with no acknowledgement. Husband was very disappointed he didn't get to put his hot eggs on his waffle. It's a bird, its a plane, no.......ITS WAFFLE HOUSE! A Waffle House in Sulfur, LA definitely saved the day for my wife and I on our hellish icy trip attempt from Houston, Tx to New Orleans, LA. So to make a very long and cold story short. My wife and I headed to New Orleans from Houston on 1/24/14, which just happened to be the day of a severe ice storm in Houston and Louisiana of all places. A drive to that was full of detours through Beaumont,a 30 minute trip over a iced over bridge right before the Texas-Louisiana border. and 2 hour drive from the Louisiana border to Sulfur, LA, a drive that is only suppose to take 30 minutes. Needless to say after a nearly 4 hour drive to Sulfur, LA (which is right before Lake Charles) my wife and I were a bit hungry, cranky, and tired. But first and foremost, HUNGRY! We were forced to exit the highway due to an icy bridge that had been closed. But awaiting us at the end of that bumper-to-bumper exit ramp was the savior to our growling stomach and restless eyes. Waffle House. Oh truly like Superman or Spider-Man or any other brave superhero men (or women), Waffle House came to our rescue and saved us from the evil villain, Sub-Zero (aka cold and ice). We entered this Waffle House not really knowing what to expect because neither of us had ever eaten at a Waffle House. But we were greeted by smiling faces and a warm reception. Although it took a second to get formal service, our waitress was incredibly nice and she offered us some great suggestions on what to eat. My wife and I both ordered waffles but i got the grits and she got the hash brown. Our waffle was delicious! It was not a crispy and we liked, but it tasted amazing and it had a fluffy texture. My grits were out of this world! Some of the best grits I have had in a long time and her hash brown were fresh and delicious. But not only were we able to satisfy our hunger but we were also able to rest our weary and exhausted bodies. This allowed us to think about if wanted to continue our journey to New Orleans or head back home to Houston. We eventually headed back home and endured a 7.5 hr trip. But in the end, if it were not for a pleasant trip to Waffle House this trip would have been even more disastrous. So thanks Waffle House, you definitely came to our rescue in our time of need. read more

Not sure how the food was because no one ever greeted us. There was a meeting of some sort with plenty of Waffle House employees but we couldn't get a waitress to look in our direction. They all avoided eye contact with us. It could have been because of the color of our skin, I can't be sure. We left and will of course never return. read more

Been eating at the Waffle House in Sulphur for over 5 years. They treat all of their customers like family. They are courteous and their food is always fresh and delicious. WH is a diner and a patron cannot expect more than that when they walk in the door, but the waitstaff are top-notch. The cooks are also second to none. I know this because I used to own a restaurant and would have hired any one of these people in a second. I'm very proud of them as if they were my own employees. Our waitress Donna was so rude to us. There was 4 16 year olds and 1 17 year old. She told us we couldn't all sit together and when one of us talked to the other, she assumed we were talking bad about her. she was incorrect about our seating and when we confronted about it, she got very defensive. would not recommend this waitress. Small restaurant with an open kitchen. You can watch them cook your food. The staff was friendly. I got the Texas cheese melt (something like that). It had eggs, bacon, cheese on Texas toast. The bread was very greasy and the bacon had a lot of fat on it. The hash browns needed salt and could be crispier. read more

Ugh. I'm a fan of Waffle House but not this one. They didn't have a manager there and that explains a lot. 7 employees chatting, only 2 other customers there on a Saturday night and they were already served there food and yet no one waited on us until we asked for a manager. A waitress approached us and explained that the waitress we were supposed to have was all stressed out but she would take our order and "write it on a napkin". My husband ordered the bacon burned. We sent it back twice to get it right. I ordered cheese eggs with raisin toast and received scrambled eggs with white toast. When I insisted that it wasn't right and the cook brought over the corrected order, he handed me the plate. What service. Not cool. There was one nice guy there who offered to make it right but we weren't going to accept a comp. I wish him success. I see there is another Waffle House close by. Try that one. read more
