Food was great and cooked perfectly. Our waiter, Lex, was very attentive, helpful, and eager to make sure we had a great experience. We were seated at a smaller table, and he was very accommodating with the limited space. He noticed we hadn't finished our appetizers, brought us to-go boxes, and even boxed them up for us so we could enjoy the rest of our meal comfortably without crowding the table. My friends and I were on a Lake Charles trip and decided to make a night out of hanging at the Golden Nugget. We are very familiar with the Landry's brand of restaurants and personally, I am a big fan of Saltgrass Steak House. We arrived for a late dinner and asked if they were still seating and was told with a little wait we could definitely dine there. The wait was shorter than expected which was a big plus. Once we were seated, we did not have one person acknowledge us for quite some time. Once our server did arrive, he was apologetic but the slow service continued like that for the rest of the night. It was very discouraging as we were having an amazing night and the service here was a joy killer. Drinks were our first order of business. The drinks took forever to get to our table and when they did arrive, some were not right. My friends had to actually get up and go to the bar to fix the problem because our waiter never came to check on us. Our entree arrived way later and the temps were off on most of the food. I will say that my entree was cooked right and up to temp. I always go with the chicken fried steak at Saltgrass and I have never been disappointed. That streak continues as my meal was delicious. Out of the five of us, I think I was the only one that didn't have some sort of issue with my meal. I know for sure the service we had here is not up to the Landry's group standard. We arrived 8:30-9p. They had us in a wait-list, took about 20ml minutes before we got a call. All good. Then we were sat, and we waited. It took a solid 20 minutes before we flagged down a passing waitstaff David, who happened to be our assigned staff, paying us no-mind to request service. One of our group ordered a titos and soda. They brought a titos and sprite. He was nowhere to be found, we went to the bar to correct it. 20 minutes later we asked about bread, 30 minutes later we received our cold food. The same friend's order was incorrect, and then she was told they were out of it. Literally every portion of her order was wrong, and he never addressed it once. Nor did he ever once check on the table. Though he was quite quick and communicative with the two tables near us. In fact they were in and out three times faster than us, and we were sat first. We ordered the porterhouse. This was thin, dry and cold. The picture couldn't look good even if AI took a stab at it. Then we waited for the check, there were only two tables left in the place as they were closing, but David was again nowhere to be found. We had to ask. Overall, very poor customer service and quality which was sad, because we left the casino we were staying at to come here. Luckily the casino itself was a fun time, even if this meal was not. We came here for dinner while we enjoyed some gambling. The wait was shorter than we expected. Unfortunately, that was the best part of the experience. The service was very slow. We sat for at least 10 minutes before anyone even acknowledged us at our table. The food was cold, it clearly sat under the hot lamp dying in the window before making it to our table. The worst part, our friend's entire order was wrong. From her drink order, to the side she received, to the salad dressing. Every item she received had something incorrect. The mashed potatoes were very salty too. Our server was very nice, but it couldn't make up for the slowness and inaccuracy. If you're in lake Charles, I suggest going somewhere else. read more

After a string of bad experiences tied to a former manager named Norma (who is no longer there, thankfully), I decided to give this place another shot. For the record, upper management never contacted me after my prior complaint no apology, no follow-up, nothing. Professionalism was clearly left off their checklist. But today, Sarah M. made me glad I returned. She was outstanding attentive, friendly, and clearly took pride in her work. She turned what could've been an average dinner into a memorable one. The kitchen also nailed it. My steak was cooked to absolute perfection, sides were fresh, and everything hit the mark. The team on the floor deserves recognition. I've been to several Saltgrass Steakhouse locations in different cities. The food has been good at each, but more often than not, there is some tip-off that Saltgrass is not a high-end steakhouse. At the location at Golden Nugget Lake Charles, the tip-off involved something as simple as silverware and a napkin. I ordered a salad and steak. The salad came. It was then that I realized I had no silverware. On her next pass, I asked the server for utensils. She brought a silverware tray, saying they had no already-wrapped cutlery. I selected a knife and fork and mentioned that I'd also need a napkin. "You want linen?" Thinking she meant linen or cloth, I told her anything was fine. Oops. She brought me bar napkins. Seriously?! I figured this was a quick fix as she searched for something more appropriate. Nope. The steak came. Still looking at bar naps. I asked for a real napkin. She finally brought one. Look. Would this scenario have played out at Vic & Anthony's? No way. I suspect someone at your highly revered sister restaurant would've solved the problem way back in the process when the supply was getting low. This is a steakhouse. Be proud of where you work and give your customers not only good food, but also a good experience. Never ask your customers to "settle" for less than the best that you can offer, even if it only involves napkins. read more

Blowing into Louisiana for the Mardi Gras festivities and decided to stop for a quick dinner before making the 2 hour drive east was completely blown away. Food was excellent! Take that horrible Crab cake off the menu! It's a thin piece of corn bread with a few flakes of crab meat on it with some type of sauce poured over it! I decided to treat myself to the Golden Nugget where I could apply it towards any of their restaurants and/or casino there. I don't gamble but I love resorts and fine dining but this time I decided I wanted Salt Grass, which is more casual. I ordered their ribs and shrimp dinner with macaroni and cheese. The ribs were fall-off-the-bones tender, the shrimp was perfect, and the mac and cheese was a wonderful, creamy, and delicious side. The place was very busy but since I was traveling alone, I was able to find a seat at the bar. Eh. There was a considerable wait (15 mins) for 2 and I couldn't see why when I entered the dining room. I went to the bar for drinks while we waited for our table. It took the entire 15 mins to get two frozen drinks. The bartender was taking a Togo order and simultaneously working the bar. I ordered the frozen crown and coke and a mixed peach and mango Margarita. If I didn't refuse to throw out booze and if these weren't $23 we probably would had left them at the table. The coke was flat and the rita just tasted like syrup. For our meal, we ordered the fondue, queso, grilled chicken sandwich and chicken fried chicken. The fondue was not saucy, very thick with cheese and served with over-toasted bread. The shrimp was not fully peeled and we had to spit shells out while trying to force ourselves to enjoy it. The queso was tasty. The menu is a bit limited if you don't want steak and my boyfriend and I both settled on our entrées. They were just okay. The breading fell off of the chicken fried chicken which kind of defeated the purpose of it being fried. But the cut of meat was juicy and flavorful. I wouldn't want to return here but I probably would anyway for the same reason I went this time...convenient when you're tired, hungry and don't feel like getting back on the road just yet. read more

We waited for a table for about ten minutes, then was seated. We had to ask for server for silver ware and bread. We waited 45 minutes and were served a cold rib eye steak and baked potato. I asked for a manager, Gabriella showed up. The butter would not melt on the steak or the baked potato. I asked her to touch the cold steak, I was served. She told me she could not. She told me she wanted to fix my situation by taking the steak back to the kitchen and put it back on the grill. If she was to put the steak back on the grill it would no longer be medium well it would be well done. After waiting 45 minutes and was served this cold food, I was just ready to leave. I'm a chairman card hold, so got seat right away, which was appreciated. However, portions of the chicken fried chicken were unbelievably small. Manager brought us an additional cfc but it was small as well. Took two smalls to make a normal size cfc. Waitress kept getting our drinks mixed up, and ticket took three trips back to the kitchen to get correct. Crazy. First off the service was wonderful. The soup was fantastic. The mashed potatoes was blah and plain and not tasty at all. The 8 ounce WAGON BOSS CENTER-CUT TOP SIRLOIN was absolutely dry and one of the worst steaks ive ever ate. The steak did not taste seasoned at all. The pink (medium) streak was correct BUT there was absolutely NO juices coming out of this steak as I squeezed it.
