I've been to several Saltgrass Steakhouse locations in different cities. The food has been good at each, but more often than not, there is some tip-off that Saltgrass is not a high-end steakhouse. At the location at Golden Nugget Lake Charles, the tip-off involved something as simple as silverware and a napkin. I ordered a salad and steak. The salad came. It was then that I realized I had no silverware. On her next pass, I asked the server for utensils. She brought a silverware tray, saying they had no already-wrapped cutlery. I selected a knife and fork and mentioned that I'd also need a napkin. "You want linen?" Thinking she meant linen or cloth, I told her anything was fine. Oops. She brought me bar napkins. Seriously?! I figured this was a quick fix as she searched for something more appropriate. Nope. The steak came. Still looking at bar naps. I asked for a real napkin. She finally brought one. Look. Would this scenario have played out at Vic & Anthony's? No way. I suspect someone at your highly revered sister restaurant would've solved the problem way back in the process when the supply was getting low. This is a steakhouse. Be proud of where you work and give your customers not only good food, but also a good experience. Never ask your customers to "settle" for less than the best that you can offer, even if it only involves napkins. read more

He was on top of our needs and all his tables around us. He didn't stop moving! We tried something new this time, for both meals. We had the steak topped with crab for dinner, which was amazing. Let me start by saying Saltgrass Lake Charles, you got it right today. After a string of bad experiences tied to a former manager named Norma (who is no longer there, thankfully), I decided to give this place another shot. For the record, upper management never contacted me after my prior complaint no apology, no follow-up, nothing. Professionalism was clearly left off their checklist. But today, Sarah M. made me glad I returned. She was outstanding attentive, friendly, and clearly took pride in her work. She turned what could've been an average dinner into a memorable one. The kitchen also nailed it. My steak was cooked to absolute perfection, sides were fresh, and everything hit the mark. The team on the floor deserves recognition. They're doing the heavy lifting while corporate stays silent. So while management's response to feedback is still nonexistent, the staff on the ground like Sarah M. are holding it down. read more

Love! Coming to eat at this restaurant every time I'm in town. Blowing into Louisiana for the Mardi Gras festivities and decided to stop for a quick dinner before making the 2 hour drive east was completely blown away. Food was excellent! I ordered the Steak and Cake, while my husband ordered the Cajun Ribeye. By the end of it there were no leftovers! Restaurant was quite dim however, as i saw a few other people using flashlights to look at the menu. But our server Teddy was awesome! we normally eat at Saltgrass before we head back to Houston! generally the food has always been good! Our latest visit was this past Sunday! I only have one recommendation! Take that horrible Crab cake off the menu! It's a thin piece of corn bread with a few flakes of crab meat on it with some type of sauce poured over it! I tore the corn bread apart and found two or three small slivers of crab meat! On top less than 10 small pieces of crab. I've been here a few times and the last couple of visits have been disappointing. On my latest visit, after receiving a severely undercooked steak, the manager couldn't be bothered to come out and talk to me. The place has really gone down in the last couple of years. Go to Outback or even better... a locally owned steakhouse. It'll be money better spent. read more

I was in Lake Charle, LA. on a business trip. I had 90 minutes for dinner. I was served promptly. The steak was cooked perfectly. The sides were hot and tasty. She made sure our food was perfect and our drinks never went empty. Never had a dirty dish on our table and she treated each of her tables with the same service. If I could give them a 0, I would. My husband and I were staying at the Golden Nugget Casino. Got a little hungry around 8 pm, on Christmas night. We waited for a table for about ten minutes, then was seated. We had to ask for server for silver ware and bread. We waited 45 minutes and were served a cold rib eye steak and baked potato. I asked for a manager, Gabriella showed up. The butter would not melt on the steak or the baked potato. I asked her to touch the cold steak, I was served. She told me she could not. She told me she wanted to fix my situation by taking the steak back to the kitchen and put it back on the grill. If she was to put the steak back on the grill it would no longer be medium well it would be well done. After waiting 45 minutes and was served this cold food, I was just ready to leave. I have been to this restaurant before and had a great experience, that is the reason why I returned. I tipped the waiter and left. Thanks so much Gabriella for ruining my Christmas! read more

I'm a Landry's select club member and get an annual $25 during my birth month that can be used at any of their restaurants. I decided to treat myself to the Golden Nugget where I could apply it towards any of their restaurants and/or casino there. I don't gamble but I love resorts and fine dining but this time I decided I wanted Salt Grass, which is more casual. I ordered their ribs and shrimp dinner with macaroni and cheese. The ribs were fall-off-the-bones tender, the shrimp was perfect, and the mac and cheese was a wonderful, creamy, and delicious side. The place was very busy but since I was traveling alone, I was able to find a seat at the bar. Eh. There was a considerable wait (15 mins) for 2 and I couldn't see why when I entered the dining room. I went to the bar for drinks while we waited for our table. It took the entire 15 mins to get two frozen drinks. The bartender was taking a Togo order and simultaneously working the bar. I ordered the frozen crown and coke and a mixed peach and mango Margarita. If I didn't refuse to throw out booze and if these weren't $23 we probably would had left them at the table. The coke was flat and the rita just tasted like syrup. For our meal, we ordered the fondue, queso, grilled chicken sandwich and chicken fried chicken. The fondue was not saucy, very thick with cheese and served with over-toasted bread. The shrimp was not fully peeled and we had to spit shells out while trying to force ourselves to enjoy it. The queso was tasty. The menu is a bit limited if you don't want steak and my boyfriend and I both settled on our entrées. They were just okay. The breading fell off of the chicken fried chicken which kind of defeated the purpose of it being fried. But the cut of meat was juicy and flavorful. I wouldn't want to return here but I probably would anyway for the same reason I went this time...convenient when you're tired, hungry and don't feel like getting back on the road just yet. read more

Manager brought us an additional cfc but it was small as well. Took two smalls to make a normal size cfc. Waitress kept getting our drinks mixed up, and ticket took three trips back to the kitchen to get correct. Crazy. Remember that we got seat right away, but still took 4 of us 2 hours for the whole process. One star is because the taste of the food was great. read more

Visited this place for lunch. Service was good. The food was very good; although, my mash potatoes could have been warmer. The grilled shrimp was flavorful. The fried shrimp was good but nothing to brag about. The redfish was delicious according to gf and the asparagus was good just as requested. First off the service was wonderful. The soup was fantastic. The mashed potatoes was blah and plain and not tasty at all. The 8 ounce WAGON BOSS CENTER-CUT TOP SIRLOIN was absolutely dry and one of the worst steaks ive ever ate. The steak did not taste seasoned at all. The pink (medium) streak was correct BUT there was absolutely NO juices coming out of this steak as I squeezed it. This use to be one of our favorite places in lake Charles. My wife and I would eat here weekly but the last couple of months have not been very good. The steaks are not cooked to order and the loaded baked potatoes hardly have ANYTHING in them. The service staff is not trained at all. If management has changed, it needs to change again. You can't just throw someone off the street in a management position like Burger King! Definitely Texas Roadhouse from now on. read more

I can relate to a few of the reviews on here. I received a burger that was the same size as the kid's burger, and mine wasn't dressed. It was identical to my nine year old's burger but cost twice as much. After getting the vegetables for my burger on the side, my husband was eating his steak and midway through, it was blue, very raw! I was shocked when both the server and TWO managers came and said it would get put back on the grill. He had already eaten half of it. How sanitary is that?! Also, the steak was full of gristle. Needless to say, I was really upset about paying a high price for substandard food. I tried to express my displeasure, but every person who came to the table ignored it.
