When I first adopted a shelter dog at 7 yo, he stayed here and was overwhelmed and had anxiety from his past. The staff here was able to accommodate him and updated me. I trusted that he would be safe with them. I took him to boarding school for two months to fix his past traumas and let him do a one month daycare here afterwards. He seemed a lot better with more socialization. Thank you to wag hotel Oakland for being patient and letting my dog thrive. Shame on you Wag Hotel! I scheduled boarding for my dog Hans at your facility back on 1/28 in preparation for a trip to Japan on May 3 - 8, which you accepted on 1/31. However, when we arrived at your facility on May 2nd, the day before my flight to Japan, your front desk staff informed me that Hans' 5/2 - 5/8 boarding was being denied due to him having a heart murmur condition. Even though I've been a loyal customer to you for over 10 years; and that Hans' heart murmur condition had already been noted in your system since 2024; and given that my flight to Japan was less than 24 hours away; and given the fact that your facility waited until I was at the checkin desk in order to inform me of Hans' boarding denial; I was still told that there was nothing that your facility could do and that it was simply following company policy. Luckily for me, I demanded to speak with a manager who then took it upon himself to assist me in finding another facility that would board Hans at the very last minute. So kudos to that manager. However, you should know that he had to make several calls going down your "other recommended facilities" list in order to find a facility that was willing to board Hans on such short notice even with him having a preexisting heart murmur condition. So again, kudos to that manager. So unfortunately, this is how our relationship ends after I've been a loyal customer to you for over 10 years. Policy aside, not only should I have been notified far in advance to my May 2nd boarding schedule, but that I should have also been given an accommodation due to the last minute nature of your notification. It was simply amazing to me to hear both your Manager, and your front desk staff all admit that a notification error had, in fact, been made by your boarding authorization unit, but due to company policy there was nothing that could be done and that Hans would simply have to boarded elsewhere. Obviously, both my years of customer loyalty and the fact that your authorization unit had made a horrendous mistake, made absolutely no difference whatsoever in my situation. So goodbye, and again shame on you Wag Hotel! read more

Not for cats I should have known from the marketing but while it is possible to room a cat here, this place and its employees clearly cater to dogs exclusively. My cat refused to eat or drink, or even come out of her carrier the entire time she was here (as I watched the whole time on the provided camera stream) and yet Wag kept sending me these emails like YOUR PET IS SO HAPPY, SHE'S DREAMING OF TREATS!!!!1! the whole time. When I picked her up they made a comment like "oh she was very sleepy and shy, we tried to pet her but she didn't seem into it" like ma'am that is the most miserable a cat has ever been, she's not "sleepy." Luckily when we got home she perked back up and ate her normal food again. They also gave her Wag-provided food, not her regular food (which I gave them a bag of to use), which is the only thing she will eat. I was genuinely afraid that she would become seriously malnourished/dehydrated before I could get back to her. Never again. read more

I see a lot of mixed reviews, this is specifically for the Oakland location. I have two small dogs, one is a somewhat unsocialized covid puppy and the other is a puppy mill rescue. Both are very attached to us and they are out kids. Boarding them causes a lot of anxiety for all of us. I love wag. 1. Tour of the facility left me confident that they would be in sanitary and safe conditions. 2. 24/7 on-site staff allowed us to pick up our dogs whenever we wanted. We came home a day early our first stay, and did not have to pay for the cancelled night. 3. In suite and play area wag-cameras- love them, I was able to see my little ones whenever I wanted, and was really pleased with the care they received. I watched them come out of their shell and actually start playing. 4. Daily photos and "report card". Loved it. I highly suggest one of the larger suites with camera if you are apprehensive about leaving your doggos. It really helped with my anxiety. When they weren't eating, which isn't uncommon when they are away from me, staff called and asked if they could add a chicken topping to their food. We checked out Wag for the first time today in person and it was great! Just picked our girl up after an afternoon of play and she is all wags; plus she smells delicious after her bath and brush. The morning started with a call from Leo confirming our reservation and doing a pre-checkin. As this was her first visit we wanted to make sure she had an awesome time so we booked splash time (puppy pool play) and an ice cream sundae. We also scored a late grooming appointment that someone had canceled. Leo was super helpful answering my questions over the phone. When we arrived, we parked out front, but note that they have indoor parking for quick and convenient check in. This was useful and appreciated at our evening pickup. After the quick desk check-in Leo gave us a walking tour the facility features. (So impressive!) They have spacious rooms for the different sized dogs to run and play, they have space for 1:1 time if you want additional exercise, training or a dog that needs a little more attention. The large dog play area opens into a secure outdoor space. They offer a range of boarding options from glass, high walled kennels, deluxe suites (w raised bed and tv) all the way up to a posh oversized room with an actual queen sized bed, tv and more. We toured the kitchen where they are fully equipped to feed their provided food or food brought from home (wet or dry). The kitchen also included an impressive sanitation setup for dishes and toys. (Bowls were being scrubbed in hot soapy water as we made our way through.) We also peeked at out the grooming salon and even took a peek at the kitty kennel options. That is one observation about Wag that I wanted to share -- from my initial outreach on the phone asking questions to the in person interactions -- all have been really pleasant exchanges with helpful information and nice people who genuinely seem to like what they do for a living. We've been driving by the Oakland location for years and were always curious. Glad we finally checked it out. They had a promo where your first day is free, so that was cool too. Then I was in need of a couple of hours the other day because they offered me two free days when I signed up so I used my second free day and they ended up charging me. First time at dog hotel ever! My dog is not spayed, but this place is accepting my dog. Also they offered me a "discovery stay" = free trial while day, prior to boarding to see how my dog does. Webcam is available to watch during the day (night at deluxe room) and it works. All staff were friendly and kind. My dog stayed 2 nights and she was very nervous and uneasy on the first day, but I think she calmed down the second day. They accept refrigerated food to be fed so I was able to leave my dog some cooked chicken, which she prefer over dry food. Although they didn't let me bring the dog bed from home, but I left my daughter's shirt so it has familiar smell. My dog barks and unfriendly, but this place accepted my dog and looks like my dog did okay. I was more nervous!! read more

I dropped my dog at daycare for 2 consecutive days. It's convenient how this is the only daycare in the bay that is open 24 hours! They watch your dog for a 12 hour time frame from the time you drop them off until you pick them up. The first night I brought him home, he seemed happy but reeked of urine. I should've seen that as a red flag, but still proceeded to send him back the next day. After I picked him up from the 2nd day, he had diarrhea all night long. Although the image of this facility looks pristine and professional, I'm sure they overcrowd their facility and keep the dogs in filthy conditions. Don't leave your dog here unless it's the last resort. This was based on my experience back in Aug 2022. read more

It's great for dogs but not so much for cats. I was in a bind for cat care for my 2 cats as construction unexpectedly began on our building the day we were to leave on vacation. We couldn't leave them with all the noise, worker entry (horrible timing we couldn't control), and a home cat sitter for just an hour or 2 per day. Got them boarded at Wag last minute. But the rooms are terrible, maybe ~8' x 4', no windows, very little air flow. Just a cat tree, the beds we brought and food. We paid extra for play time but my normally outgoing cats were miserable in a cramped, stinky space. Took them a while to return to themselves after getting home. Cats love space and windows to watch the world go by. The pics on the website for cats are misleading. Wag, if you are going to board cats and charge over $1k for 5 days (for 2 cats), do better research on cat behavior and needs to keep cats and owners happy. It really just looks like cat boarding (and minimal care) at Wag is an afterthought for revenue. The staff was great so 3 stars. read more

I've been bringing Ace here for grooming and boarding for about 4 years now, and I've always been happy with their service. Recently, I've noticed some positive changes that make the experience even better. The daily updates and pictures during boarding have become more consistent, and I really appreciate getting those, it's something I always look forward to when I'm away. The staff is incredibly patient and understanding with Ace, who can get anxious and easily overstimulated. They know how to handle him, which gives me peace of mind whenever I have leave him. I just had Ace groomed by Jen, and she did a great job! He came home looking so soft, fluffy, and perfectly trimmed. Jen was great at communicating throughout the process. read more

No warning, no email alerting me, nothing - just an unpleasant surprise that ruined my plans for the day. Needed a pet boarding since our last boarder stopped taking animals. Another issue is our dog is intact and many places do not accept intact dogs. So decided to give Wags a try. You pay more for having an intact dog but they had availability and we took it. Dropping off was super easy and staff were very helpful and friendly. Got a dog wash while he was there. They will send you pictures of your dog daily and that was cool because he looked happy. Pick up was a breeze and he smelled great after the wash. Will use again. read more

I would highly recommend this place to anyone who has a fur baby. We took our 5 month husky here and the staff was very friendly. The first time there was free which was amazing! She was there all day and we got to see her live on a webcam, all day. That was such a peace of mind. We have taken her to other places and we got no updates whatsoever from them. My standard Parti golden doodle is regularly groomed by Rachel. She is the best of the best. I love how she grooms my doodle and just how perfect he looks afterwards. What I love the most is her attention to detail and her love for dogs. It shows. My dog is a bit anxious but never around her. It's so nice to have a quality groomer. I was pretty surprised to find such a quality groomer at wag hotel as it is a business that specializes in boarding. But I have to say hands down Rachel is the best groomer you can find. Welcoming, professional, friendly staff were great over the course of a full week as I visited a friend of mine's dog there, taking him out each evening. These "soft departures" always went smoothly, and after a few visits, the staff would greet me with a friendly "We'll go get him." My friend's dog seemed happy there, and calm, over a long stay -- and I so appreciated being able to take the dog out every night for a week, as well as hang with him in the lobby for some cuddle time on the provided chairs or sofa. The ins/outs involve staff, and they make it so easy-- never made me feel like extra work was being created fro them. The lobby is always clean and smell-free, and I saw many other animals and their humans do smooth drop-offs and pickups. I especially appreciate the vibe of the staff, and I'm sure my friend's dog did too. read more

Most rude and obnoxious manager last night picking up my dog. They told us one price then we return from our trip and it's almost double the price they told . Unacceptable. I will be filing a complaint against this manager. Needs to be checked and this needs to be addressed cause this is no way to talk to anyone when u clearly can't remember what you told someone is insane. Claimed everything was thoroughly explained and we "misinterpreted" then when charges were broken down she was wrong. We love Wag Oakland! One of the most important things for my daughter and I is that Cocoa has the chance to socialize and exercise. With the themed activities, which we love, and daily activity plans, we know she is getting just that. The Wag staff is awesome, helpful, and always smiling. When I first got there I was just expecting a place that someone can just watch my dog(Koa). But the care that I actually got was more then I expected. First time adopted a dog. They were patient with me and Koa, with this high energy. Nate helped me every step of the way, to doggy supplements, dog trainers and other resources. Everytime I need to drop Koa, very early in the morning, the staffers are so reliable on answering the phone, opening the door, check in and greet Koa with a lot of love all in a timely manner like Ashley. When I pick Koa up before I even walk into the door most of the time, when they are not busy, Wanda, Ariana and others already radioed for Koa and asking about my day. Now this is the fun part. Koa has a reputation to be so overly excited that he looks like a tasmanian devil going through the lobby. So, the dog handlers in the back make me wait a little longer. Because they are trying their best to teach Koa to slow down and I know they don't have to do that, which I appreciate so much to the handlers like Jenny, Robert, and others. I know some people will find some discrepancies. To me, I have a genuine feeling that they're trying their best. And that was way more than I expected. read more
