I selected this business using Yelp and hired owner AJ for pet sitting based on the strength of the positive reviews here. I feel it would be irresponsible for me to not provide a review after we had problems. I would give zero stars if possible. AJ (the owner) was hired to feed our pet rabbit in our home and to watch our 7 pound young adult dog in his home (it was his request to take the dog to his home). Our dog is hearty, healthy (needs no medications or special care) and was freshly groomed prior to our leaving. We sent her along with her crate and favorite dog food and treats. AJ knew we would be out of the U.S. for seven nights. We have left our dog before (with others in their home and ours) without incident. AJ's packet requiring vet information with permissions, a contract with disclaimers (protecting him), etc., was more cumbersome than anything I had ever been asked to sign, but it all seemed "legit" and struck me as fairly professional. 2 days into our family vacation AJ sent me an e-mail saying that out dog was extremely ill with diarrhea and... he may not be able to keep her! The fourth day he wrote although the dog had a congenial personality and had been sweet with his kids, she appeared to be suffering from anxiety and with her diarrhea she had made more than one mess on his floor and so she could no longer stay with him and I needed to make alternative arrangements immediately!!! Never an offer to take her to the vet, etc, care for her back in our home (as I had originally requested) or any other suggestions ---and he knew we were out of the country. Obviously, I was unable to personally pick her up. Out of fear for my dog's safety (what was he going to do with her if I wasn't able to arrange any alternative?) I scrambled to find a solution. Thankfully, I was able to reach a friend who could help and our pet was retrieved from AJ's home immediately. My friend was shocked to find my dog shaking, in filthy and frail condition. I was charged for pro-rated care (reflecting the 4 days provided) and I paid in full. The rabbit received adequate care, but I also discontinued AJ's care of our rabbit after he refused to continue caring for our dog. Now back home, our dog has not needed a trip to the vet and has resumed to her previously healthy condition. This caused incredible stress and worry during a greatly anticipated vacation. read more

I feel AJ and Wagabout did not get a fair shake (representation) by Yelp by the cumbersome way the website is formatted. Yelp gives the reviewer a short paragraph easily located, seen and scanned followed by the word "more" in light blue located below to expand the text. However, only the word "more" in light blue and "was..." is for the owner, and it's not that evident that that small potion will contain the the business owner's account of events. The light blue "more" has to be clIcked on to see the owner's extensive, well detailed, and professional recounting of the events. I've learned to read Yelp a little more critically. I read through all the extensive, glowing reviews on Yelp for the business Wagabout and with one exception they were 100% positive. I'm very satisfied that AJ the owner gave such a detailed accounting of the events. Additionally, I would like to add my own very satisfied experiences. He and his business came to me with very high recommendations in 2017 and he did dog walking for us many times while we were out of town. He had detailed daily reports for us and we worked together extremely well for several years before my dog passed. I have been using Wagabout since February when I started working 30 minutes from home and knew my little poodle needed some TLC and a short walk in the middle of the day. Kelly leaves a little note every day with the time she arrived and what they did during her 15 minute visit. She is also very understanding and accommodating when I need him walked longer (30 minutes) or at a different time of day. In order to not be charged for a cancelled visit, you need to provide at least 24 hours notice, which is sometimes impossible because, hey, life happens. I understand they have a schedule to work around, but I wish there were 1 or 2 "freebies" for cancelling with less than 24 hours notice (or at least only charge half for 12 hours notice). That being said, I know my dog is in great hands while I am at work, which is extremely comforting. We left our beloved doggies Bimmer (a Beagle, Jack Russel Terrier, Australian Cattle Dog mix) and Chloe (pure Jack Russell Terrier) with AJ and Kelly over the Christmas through New Year's holiday when my wife and I traveled out of state. In this situation we normally leave the doggies with our trusted local veterinarian. But we felt that -- especially over the holidays -- that the doggies would be left alone at the vet, whereas with AJ and Kelly they would be in a more familial environment receiving the greater attention that we feel our doggies deserve. AJ and Kelly delivered for us. To be honest, we were really surprised (and impressed) that AJ and Kelly had a checklist of everything that they did with the dogs (play, walk several times per day, food, etc.) They did so much with our doggies that I actually felt a little negligent as their parents since AJ and Kelly walked the dogs more per day than we do. Bimmer actually seemed a little sad when he left AJ and Kelly's custody after the week. I know he had a lot of fun. Chloe was her normal quiet self, and was content to be back with us, but showed none of the signs of trauma that she normally does when out of our custody; that was much more significant to us than it sounds like on paper, and it means that AJ and Kelly treated her, and she accepted them, like family.
