We are sharing this experience so other families understand the importance of proactive, early discussion of preventive options when GDV risk is present. 4/21/26 I am writing this with a heavy heart to provide a factual account of our recent experience at Stewart's Animal Hospital. My hope is that this honesty helps the clinic improve and assists other families in their decision-making. Over the last 18 months, we noticed a shift in the clinic's atmosphere. The front staff often appeared burdened by inquiries, and we faced significant challenges regarding insurance claims that were only resolved after repeated follow-ups. More concerningly, we experienced two instances where medical advocacy was required on our part. First, during a urinary emergency, I had to request the appropriate medication myself after the focus remained on a secondary muscle strain. Most recently, following an ER visit for bloat, we requested the preventative surgery recommended by specialists. We were advised by Dr. Stewart to 'wait and see.' Unfortunately, this led to a catastrophic 360-degree stomach torsion. Our pet is now fighting for his life with aspiration pneumonia and a 60% survival rate. When I spoke with Dr. Stewart, she apologized for not being more aggressive, though there was a misunderstanding regarding whether the procedure had been offered (it had not). I take my own share of responsibility for not seeking a second opinion, but I feel it is my duty to share that the conservative approach taken here resulted in a preventable life-threatening emergency. We bear no ill will, but we believe transparency is necessary for the wellbeing of other animals in our community.

(Our family all agrees, our dog's happiness/comfort is the most important thing.) My dog Molly is super relaxed with Ashley (or at least, as relaxed as a mini-poodle can be lol). Molly always looks great after a visit to Ashley, & she always seems very happy. Very reasonable prices, & she was finished in a reasonable amount of time.
