I love this place when the food taste how it's supposed to. It's very inconsistent. We come here a lot during lunch and the service is horrible. When you have a job you can't wait 45 minutes just to get your lunch. They are constantly understaffed and say they aren't and blame it on random affairs. There's never anyone at the podium to seat you. It's not welcoming to come and wait for five minutes to get acknowledged. Hire a hostess for minimum wage to just at least get seated nice. It gets tiring giving a chance over and over and the same thing happening every time. We spend an hour and a half for lunch. So if you are in a hurry do not go here. Will update when service is better. I hope this get someone's attention to improve there stuff I do like this place and want it to succeed but it's getting ridiculous and not worth it waiting for. I hate giving a local business a poor review, but the service was absolutely terrible. :( From start to finish our small, mostly raw meal took 2 hours. We kept having to ask for essential items to be brought over, like food that we were missing or cocktail sauce and crackers for the oysters. Our drinks never got refilled even after asking. Our server also didn't clear our plates after we were done with the apps and first round of oysters so our table ended up piled high with dirty dishes. We witnessed multiple wrong orders being delivered to tables, patrons asking more than once for things, and discounts being doled out for poor service. The servers, manager, and kitchen don't seem to communicate and are forgetful. Every single table in our section was complaining about the service. The ambiance also feels dated, and not in a charming way. On the bright side, our calamari and fried green tomato appetizers were pretty good, though! We came on a Thursday for the $1 oyster special. The oysters were on the smaller side, but thats to be expected for $1. Wahoo could be a really great restaurant if they had better service and a facelift to the decor, but for now, we won't be coming back. :( read more

This was my dad's choice for lunch on our way to the airport. Reading some of the reviews in advance, I was a bit nervous, but, everything ended up being fine. The patio is very dog friendly, so that's where we sat with Princess Luna. Our super friendly server, Breanna, offered to bring a bowl of water over for her, but my dad and his wife travel prepared, so they didn't need it! Jim G. and I shared the Seared Ahi Tuna appetizer, the Boom Boom Shrimp, and the grilled fish tacos for Taco Tuesday. So we don't often remember to go here since it's not on the usual Newberry or Archer mainstream roads but Wahoo has always been good for us! Monday nights are $20 per lb crab legs with corn and red potatoes. That's one of our favorites. I've also had the shrimp and grits which was great, and family had the seared scallops and they looked perfectly cooked with a side of bacon brussel sprouts and my MIL loves their Mahi sandwich which is huge! Another favorite of ours is their margarita deal. $9.50 for any flavored Marg that they offer! We went on a holiday, so I expect slow service. But the service was awful. We had a reservation and were seated promptly. The person asked us for our drink orders and we requested water. Probably 20 minutes later we flagged down a server - people around us that came later had their beverages and orders were being taken. My mom had fish and shrimp and requested sauces. It was supposed to come with coleslaw and a side. I ordered a salad with my meal. They asked if I wanted it before or with the meal and I said before. My mom got no sauce and it took us 10-15 minutes to get a server. I asked for a spoon, which never came. My salad never came. No one ever came by the table to ask how our food or meal was. I don't know if it was a lack of servers, kitchen staff or both. Like I said, I expect slow service on a holiday, but not to this degree. The food was ok but not great. We tried this place thinking it would be a local Gainesville spot for good seafood and it was incredibly disappointing. We will definitely not be coming back. The food was horrible. They must dump an entire salt shaker on their food. I sent my meal back because it was overcooked and the taste was too salty to eat and they brought out more shrimp that were burned to a crisp. The sweet tea was a mix of sulphur and sugar, a lot of sugar. (Assuming to cover the sulfur) The Fish and Shrimp was soggy greasy. Enjoyed a crab bisque. a tasty libation and some bang bang shrimp tacos while hubby had a delightful mahi and salad. Service from Ethan was attentive without being intrusive, which brought the rating to a four. The food was average, as the bisque was delicious, hot, not too thick but creamy and dotted with crab and flavor. The bang bang shrimp needed a bit of sauce as the undressed cabbage was a bit overwhelming and I really didn't care too much for the shredded cheddar cheese; perhaps a scant amount of feta or another crumbled cheese would work better and a lime-esque dressing would enhance the texture and flavor of the cabbage slaw inside the tacos. They were certainly ample in size and a decent bang (play on words) for the buck! But I found myself wishing for a bit more in the flavor category. Hubby's salad was colorful, fresh and he enjoyed it as did he enjoy his Parmesan crusted fish. Since we're new to the area, we will likely return for another go around and try something different with high hopes for a bit better food experience especially since we always seek out mom and pop establishments rather than the corporate route for our restaurant choices. read more

My wife and I had come to Gainesville for a medical procedure and brought our small dog with us. Everything went well and on our last night decided to go out to dinner and bring our puppy with us. Looked online for restaurants that were dog friendly and found Wahoo Seafood Grill. We were seated outside on a nice covered front porch. The restaurant was busy and it took a few minutes for the waitress to take our drink order. After 15 minutes still no drinks I flagged our waitress down and she checked with the bar and within a few minutes we received our beer and wine. We received our food, (mix and match boil which included snow crab, shrimp, andouille sausage, potatoes, corn, and hush puppies) soon after the drinks. The food was delicious, everything was done to perfection. The shrimp was tender and juicy, crab legs had plenty of meat on them, sausage had good flavor and a nice kick to it. The hush puppies were the best I have ever had, lots of flavor and very moist. The waitress was very apologetic for our wait, we told her it was no problem it worked out, the dinner was great. During dinner the manager came out and apologized and delivered us two free drinks to make up for the delay. All businesses have issues and problems and its how they handle the problems that matter. The manager and staff handled this to perfection I have nothing but praise for this restaurant. We came to dinner stressed out with our travels and medical issues and left calm and relaxed. A big shout out to our waitress and manager for making this a wonderful and memorable experience. Next time we are in Gainesville we will be returning for another fantastic dinner. read more

Went for all you can eat crab legs on Monday night. Only received one "refill" of crab legs due to inattentive server, Ethan, only because we were able to get the attention of someone else's server. Ethan and the young man he was training completely disappeared, No refills on beverages offered. All the guests around us were getting "refills" as soon as their plates were emptied. I counted the table next to us getting at least 8-10 refills of crab legs. I think if we had had a better server, the experience would have been much better. This was supposed to be a birthday treat for my sister who had been craving crab legs for quite some time and she also loves bread pudding, which they were out of. I have been to Wahoo Seafood Grill twice now and every time it is difficult to choose from the menu because everything sounds so tasty. On my first trip the special of the night was bacon-wrapped scollop skewers covered in crab meat sitting on top of jambalaya with andouille sausage, drizzled with their chipotle aioli sauce. Phenomenal is a word to describe it. Such an interesting combination, so savory and succulent. Their fried green tomatoes were okay, a little over-priced but flavorful. The crab bisque was rich and chocked full of crab, while the Boom Boom shrimp tacos were crispy, crunchy, and had fresh cut red onions and tomatoes over the top. Even the Mexican street corn was sprinkled with cheese and Sriracha sauce. Another time I went on a Thursday night and it was their pasta night special, where any pasta dish is $10. I ordered the cavatappi pasta with shrimp tossed in sun-dried tomato, basil, and bacon. It was creamy and they the didn't skimp on the shrimp. The service was about average for both trips to Wahoo. Their bar area looks fun and I want to try that out some night. Overall, I've been impressed with Wahoo Seafood Grill and I look forward to going back soon. read more

The restaurant smell like dirty socks and rats popping, the service was TERRIBLE (Emma the food was as BAD CAN BE, was cool, not taste and cheap food quality! My skinny margarita was TERRIBLE taste I had to sent it back and get another TERRIBLE "WATERY" drink! However I will state to the inexperienced that the amount of meat compared to the amount of toil involved is meager indeed. The potatoes, corn and shrimp included in my order was worthwhile! This is what I'm leaving on my plate... and I'm someone who would've ordered a second round. The legs were the worst I've ever eaten. The seasoning was on point but the meat was mealy and I couldn't pull any of it out in full pieces as it just fell apart to touch. By the time I gave up, the corn and potatoes were cold so I just didn't bother. I didn't say anything because I didn't want to be "that" guest. Our food was so overcooked. When we mentioned it to the server, he was very nonchalant about it. The manager never came out to the table. I took the wine glass inside and asked for the manager. It took about 15 minutes, and a reminder, and seeing a table across from us that had guests that came 19 minutes or so AFTER we put in our beer order, GET THEIRS FIRST. And we had to remind the server again! Even their food came before ours in the order of table first in should have gotten (ours) after waiting at least 30 minutes from order to table. We won't be back for the service. And not sure for any reason due to the distance we live. Again, great food. But training young servers needs to improve. read more
