How can you mess up fish and chips? First the food quality was poor. The fish was mushy, French fries were greasy. Hush puppies were dense and greasy. So the real question is want is important to you? Is it food, value, atmosphere or location? To be 100% honest I thought this was a different location when we decided to go. It said Gainesville but it is no where near UF or Downtown. It is right off 75 two exits north of Archer. So that being said, I liked it. It is a bit of a dive but I don't care. The food was good the prices were good and the staff nice. I think four stars is more than fair. More of a three star, but did I say I liked it? The drinks were good and I liked the food. It was a little out of the way for us but I would go back again. There was live music outside and if you just want s place to grab a drink and a bite, this fills the bill. read more

This place was awful! When we walked in we were told their special was lobster Mac and cheese for $35. We didn't want that. We were craving oysters and this was one of the few places that had oysters in Gainesville. The one dozen lightly steamed oysters we had smelled so gross and the coloring of the oyster made my stomach cringe. I didn't eat them. My husband at some and said they were not good and had to drown them in sauce. He did get the fish tacos and they were ok. They were three small fish tacos with a slaw, nothing spectacular. The calamari had no flavor, the batter was just basically flower. I should have known when they brought me my glass of water and it's smelled like dirty dishwater we should have just left. My husband has 3 beers. $77! The most disgusting one ONE dozen oysters was $36!?!? I have never paid that much for a dozen and we have ordered at high end restaurants. The only word to start out with is WOW!!! We stopped here after noticing the billboards along I- 75 on our way to Orlando and are we ever glad we decided to give it a try for lunch The wife had the shrimp tacos and I had the crawfish ettoufee. The tacos were perfectly cooked with a sweet seasoning and the cabbage had a perfect flavor to compliment, but not hide the taste of the shrimp. The crawfish ettoufee was cooked perfectly with the crawfish being tender in a subtle spicy roue over white rice that wasn't over or under cooked. I could have eaten a couple of bowls of in one sitting. The service was outstanding as well. We sat on the porch and our server had several tables, but juggled everyone perfectly to where no table was waiting on anything. Do yourself a favor and stop in if you are around Gainesville. Met up with a friend here and I'm not usually into seafood like that, I'm very basic(like shrimp and salmon) but their grilled salmon is always a HIT everytime! I didn't get a chance to take a pic because I was starving when my food came and quickly started eating it as as the plate came on the table! Great place for delivery or sit down food. Always fresh seafood with different specials. The service is pretty good I don't think ever had a empty glass. They have live music that actually pretty good. The servings are nice and big but I still go for apps, drinks, entree and desert. Even if I need to take some home. The only thing is sometimes no parking left in parking lot. But I guess there is a reason for that. read more

I'd give Wahoo 2.5 stars. This place has been my families go to restaurant for several years. Recently we've been disappointed with the food quality and attention to detail. Since the start of the pandemic we've been avoiding in person dining. We've ordered takeout numerous times and have been disappointed in general. The portions for take out are typically much smaller than in house dining. This is not acceptable. The meals are often missing sauces and side orders that take away from the overall satisfaction with the meal. The portion sizes for the chicken fingers is ridiculous. You get 4 small chicken fingers for 10 dollars. The service is normally very good but the cutting corners with the takeout food is unacceptable. I'll probably go back and give them another chance because I like the vibe of the place and their menu but they better step their game up. read more

Driving to Tampa and stopped here for dinner. The first thing that hit us as we enter is the smell of stale wet cloths that have been used too many times to clean the tables. Utoh. The food however turned out to be very good. Generous portions of fish that was tasty and melted in your mouth. The sides were mixed. I had rice and roasted corn which was good. My companion had the Brussels sprouts which were burnt. Service was solid but nothing special. The place appears to be more bar than restaurant. Shows some wear and tear. Place seems popular, parking lot was a zoo. The dinner menu is a little limited. Lots of bar snack food on the menu. I am writing this while I wait for dessert. Dessert was impressive. Where do I even start. First of all I wanna say that i never go on to leave a review but the food was so bad that I had to write this review. I called to make an order for pickup. At most places when I call and order they get the order RIGHT. I told the person my order, they READ THE ORDER BACK to me perfectly... and they still got it wrong. With our entrees,I ordered two grits, and 1 rice with beans. They gave me TWO rice and beans and ONE grits. The grits weren't even that good. both my mother and my grandmother described the grits as "weird tasting, and nothing like they have ever had" We ordered a sirloin, it was so fatty and so raw and chewy that my grandmother threw her meal away. My boyfriend and I got wings. I specifically said sauce on the wings and a side of sauce as well. I even told the person who took my order over the phone to read it back to me. My boyfriend is as unpicky as it gets. If he gets food he basically eats all of it. He only had five out of 10 and said "All I tasted was grease " with his fried BBQ chicken wings. As for my Jerk wings, I asked for mine with sauce on the wings and on the side as well.. Let me tell you, I have had authentic Jerk wings before and THIS monstrosity of a sauce was melted butter with spices. So without looking i dumped a pile of MELTED BUTTER on my wings with clumped up spices. which was disgusting. I wiped off the butter. Let me tell you, I read the reviews before and i wanted to give the place a benefit of the doubt.... Everything I read makes sense now. If you want mediocre food go right ahead. For all i know, the seafood boil is better than our meal but I am NOT going back to find out. read more

This is some of the best flavors i've had! i got the fried calamari. It came with a white sauce that paired perfectly! I also had the steak medium rare- perfectly cooked, with mac and cheese (some of the best i've had with a slight seafood flavor) and mashed potatoes. If a restaurant doesn't wow me the first time, I try to go back a few times because maybe they had a bad night or were just too busy. I've been to Wahoo's on about three occasions and i decided on my last trip that there food sucks. There is no flavor and everything is really bland. When you get your order you spend more time trying to add flavor or find the right sauce to make it taste decent and still leave unsatisfied. The last time I noticed that most of their target market is older, which may mean that they have a lot of health issues, which could explain why the food is so bland. Personally I do not see myself going back here unless a friend begs me to. read more

My boyfriend and I go here at least a couple times a month, we have probably been here a total of at least 10 times and have never been disappointed. They have an amazing happy hour deal (every day 4-7pm) and I personally love their tequila Thursdays! They have amazing margaritas for a great price! Their margaritas are delicious!! They have many different flavors with the option of salt or sugar and they are all soooo good. I would say my favorite is the watermelon margarita with a salt rim! Sometimes it takes a little while to get our drink orders, but it's not all that bad, and definitely worth it in the end. When it comes to food here are my favorites: Appetizers: Crab Cakes, Wahoo Roll, and Oysters Main meal: Shrimp and Grits!!! Those food options are legit to die for. The shrimp and grits have a sauce with so much flavoring! I always love shrimp and grits at pretty much any restaurant but my favorite is the one at Wahoo! The sauce just makes it over the top amazing! Now I would say the gator po boy isn't as amazing I was hoping, but it wasn't bad. The service here is definitely top notch! They are very kind, attentive, and helpful. Trevor (I believe is his name) is usually the server we get and he's legit one of the best servers of all time. He always helps us make decisions when we are stuck and he is on top of getting our second and third drink rounds placed and received. All the servers here are great, but we definitely appreciate when we are placed in Trevor's section. You can't go wrong with the service at Wahoo! read more

No wait for a table which was nice however no waitress to be found. The hostess kept trying to cover for her and deserves the tip more then our waitress. We saw our actual waitress maybe twice.The wait for service and food was over an hour. This place is top notch! I took the recommendation of another yelper and had the blackened salmon with Tasso sauce and cheese grits and it was AMAZING! My husband had the swordfish blackened and he enjoyed it very much. My son had grouper, fried which was delicious and sis had a pound of crab legs which she devoured and enjoyed very much!
