Their menu board was calling my name and although I didn't need to buy anything, we love supporting local, yes? Yes. They had so many delicious options. My husband went in to buy a pork butt to smoke. He, admittedly, doesn't know how to select the best cuts of meat, so he wanted to go to a proper butcher to ensure he got a good cut. He came home with the meat in a paper bag and immediately put it in the refrigerator. I came into the kitchen shortly after and the whole room smelled like something rotten. We couldn't pinpoint where the smell was coming from immediately, but when I opened the refrigerator it almost knocked me over. We opened the paper bag (the same day of the purchase) and the meat was GREEN and had a smell of death. It took me days to get that smell out of my nose. My husband immediately took the meat back to Shields and the owner told him he knew the meat was close to being bad, but he didn't think it was "that far". No apology, no offer to refund the money. He was nasty to my husband and made some kind of comment like he might choose not to sell to him again since he returned a cut of meat. Never again!

Housesitting brought me to the neighborhood, and now I might have to make the trek regularly. I bought three sourdough bagels and a brown butter coconut cookie. My blood sugar was low and I absolutely could not resist eating the cookie on my way home. Wow.. It was so chewy and delicious. Both flavors come through really nicely. On to the bagels... These are, by far, the best bagels I've had in Atlanta. Honestly, they put the chain bagel spots to shame. The interior is really open and has that beautiful sourdough tang.
