For a Chinese takeout place, this is one of the better choices. I have not ordered from here in a couple of years and when I returned recently, I found out the owners are different. However, they kept the General Tso's fish in the menu and I was glad about that. Same good quality. Same good taste. One must not judge the place on ambience--there is no such thing. It is a busy takeout place. Although, I do wonder about the state of the kitchen...nevertheless, with faith, I ordered. Ah, so the food is good quality and the prices are cheaper than most other Chinese places. I am IN. I need to eat good food while getting great value and this place scores. The young lady and her mom who take orders are helpful enough. Don't expect big, warm smiles--that is not what this place is about. Thankful that they get my orders right and fast, too. I have to admit I'm super picky when it comes to Chinese food, it took me forever to find a place I want to go to more than once in Providence, but Waj Wai House did not disappoint. I have had their chicken and broccoli, general tsaos, dumplings, crab Rangoon...I have to stop because now I'm getting hungry lol. The food is great. Order was placed around 5pm and at 615pm we called and they said they tried to deliver but no one answered and no one called. Still waiting and they are only a 2 minute drive. While they have great food, the take orders on Grubhub, DoorDash, by phone and walk-in. They cannot keep things straight and it is only going to hurt the business in the end. read more

Stopped in this place to grab some take-out dinner for me and my husband and we were both surprised at many things. First, the food was very nicely seasoned and was prepared well. I had the Hunan Shrimp while he had the Beef with Broccoli. The food did not clump together as we have experienced in other Asian restaurants and so we were able to separate individual items while we ate. The only bad point was although Hunan Shrimp is supposed to be spicy, this one was not and so I had to add some spice of my own at home. I have been ordering from Wai Wai for years! My husband and I are disabled and order out often. Every other place we order from bring it right in to us. The drivers from Wai Wai had my blood pressure up. First he wanted me to come out to the parking lot, then he wanted to drop it by the front door, while I was begging him to just bring into the living room. OMG I don't need drama to get my dinner. OMG!! Then he left, AND WALKED BACK IN WITHOUT KNOCKING!!! He wanted a tip. I'm mad at myself for giving him $4 because we argued! Worst customer service ever! After taking my daughter to the park I drove bye and said hey why not try it. So glad we did staff was extremely friendly when ordering in person and over the phone. The chicken broccoli and white rice was extremely good my picky 2 year old even loved it. My husband ordered the chicken chow main with chicken fried rice. He absolutely loved it they even gave him extra bean sprouts like he asked. The egg rolls were cooked to perfection not greasy at all my husband and daughter loved them. My favorite thing was the chicken teriyaki omfg the best I have ever had. They are huge pieces of chicken with this amazing sticky teriyaki sauce. Highly recommend. What a wonderful find! When Chinese food is so risky if it will be good or bad this place really made my night. I placed my order over the phone when I was about 8 minutes away and they said it would be about 15 minutes. Arrived and it was being boxed up. The lady at the register was short and young and had an elf hat on and was very nice and offered me a really cool Chinese calendar which I took because why not. When I got home I ate the food which was amazing! I had orange chicken which had an awesome sauce with orange peels and a tiny bit of spice but my three year old and 1 year old can handle it so... I had some no mein noodles which were not over cooked and not too thin. I had a vegetarian tofu, broccoli, and carrot in a garlic sauce and that was sooo good! And last I had chicken teriyaki skewers which had a sweet teriyaki sauce and the chicken was huge and moist!! I will be back!! read more

The food is decent, but for the love of God.... could they speed up the service??? First time we ordered take out took over two hours and multiple phone calls. Second time ordering take out... same BS. They estimate an hour. Two hours later... no delivery. Again... multiple phone calls later and KIDS answering the phone, we're told... sorry you're delayed. UNACCEPTABLE! Learn how to run your business in a timely manner, don't have little kids answering your phones and stop bull shitting people about how long you're going to take. I have ordered from this establishment on a regular basis for over 10 years. It gets worse every year! Food does not have original quality, delivery time is shamefully slow (1 hour, 30 minutes for a simple $40 order). I called 3 times asking for my food and still got not results. Perhaps it has something to do with the young child who took the order - aren't there labor laws?! I want my money back... the food was COLD and DISGUSTING!!! However otherwise this place has little to recommend it. We had: - the steamed dumplings which were fine but not great - the sautéed broccoli which was tasty - the ma of tofu which was bland - the mooshi pork which was fine This is the kind of place to go if you are looking for cheap, Americanized Chinese food. Good food (not gourmet by any stretch but a good neighborhood place), family operated, fast delivery, extensive menu. But HORRIBLE website. I can't tell you how many times I've entered my credit card info just to have the delivery person expect cash. The first time it happened I went back and checked the order and even though I entered my credit card info the web site processed it as a cash order. My card was never charged. But now I always make sure I have enough cash to cover the order even if I attempt to use a credit card, and always check the email receipt to make sure. Unfortunately this means they lose out on orders if I don't happen to have cash handy. Wish I could go there more often. read more

Ok. It's simple. It's been exactly the same for 20+ years. It's Americanized Chinese. They deliver which is gold For me. There are hidden gems on this menu. The Sticky Wings are in my top 5 of all time. No batter. Crispy skin and the sauce is of the dark brown and not jet black variety. They are so close to perfect. I order one for me and a second for everyone else. If we order our for Asian and I have to go pick it up (like lemongrass) I will order these wings and grab them on the way back. Singapore Mei Fun. Happy thin rice noodles, heat, curry, shrimp, chicken and veggies. Solid. My old man swears by the roast pork egg foo young. Gets it every time without fail. Twenty years ago we moved into the neighborhood. After sampling the Cantonese take-out at about a half-dozen local restaurants, we elected Wai Wai House as our favorite. Lately, though, the place has undergone a change that has invited some disappointment. Flavors seem to change from order to order. Required sauces (ginger sauce for scallion pancakes, for example) are sometimes forgotten. There seems to be friction or confusion that results in shouting among the staff. It's not yet reached the point where we'll forsake them for another; however, the thought has entered our minds and we may well be tempted to look around once again.
