Mini mart style with goodies to sell avail inside. Always a line but usually quick. Located in a residential area with a small parking space or street parking! Takes CC and cash.
Located on Waiola Street in the heart of Honolulu is this gem. Famous for their delicious shaved jce. When ordering don't hesitate to get the ice creams and condensed milk. The service is great! The store is small and has lots of merch. Overall it's a must stop if you plan on staying on the south side of the island.
Waiola Shave Ice has been operating for at least 20 years now, and located in a residential neighborhood away from shopping centers and malls. I remember my father taking me when I was in Elementary School, and for nostalgia sake, I decided to return after work. Open everyday from 11a-6:30p, its rare to see a local mom and pop shave ice shop open that late. The shave ice was as good as I remembered it 20 years ago. Can't wait to get the azuki bean one next.
This is a spot I go to whenever I am in Honolulu. It's a great price with so much flavors! I love their tigers Blood with lychee, ice cream and condensed milk! I would give more but the people serving you are not very friendly. But hey, you're just there for some shaved ice so it's ok! Haha! They also have a little store in the back to get some li hing candies or other goodies! Super small location in a neighborhood. Parking is ok too it all depends how busy they are during the day but they do have street parking and parking to the right of their store if you're facing it. But definitely one of my go to spots! Must try!
I've been going to Waiola's the past 20 yrs and have tried other shaved ice places but...This is best shaved ice in town! The consistency and finely shaved ice makes it my the best. My go to is the rainbow shaved ice with vanilla ice cream. It can get packed at times but parking is super easy, and rarely is it hard to find a spot. Lastly, they have super cute merch. I would put this on top of the list of shaved ice spots to visit when in town in Oahu!
This is my favorite place to get shave ice in Hawaii! I usually get lililkoi and guava syrup which is always really fresh tasting! I always get ice cream on the bottom and li hing mui powder on top. If you're not local, you should give that a try. Its s popular crack seed in Hawaii from plum seed so it hint of bitterness with the sweetness of the fruit syrup. Delicious!!! Or ONO we say in the islands ! There are a couple benches out front so you can hang out and eat without making a mess in the car. Also check out the store which has lots of other snacks. The lady and keiki's that work there are always so nice, so be kind back to them!
I've had my fair share of shave ice on the Hawaiian islands, and this one was just so disappointing. Yes the ice is soft, but the syrup flavors all tasted the same and was just meh. Also, if you ask for mochi they put it on the bottom so you have to dig it up and save it for your last bites which makes no sense. The service was super strange too. The workers don't greet you they just stare at you and you just have to talk and say your order to them. Not a fan, go to Ululani's (the goat).
A fairly popular shaved ice place recommended to many. You can get an affordable shaved ice for $4-8 depending on the size and topping. As we wanted to get to another place quickly, we opted to pay a little more for DoorDash pickup which came by pretty fast, but you lose a lot on the presentation as it is like an ice plate instead of shaved ice pile on top. This won't be my first and last time trying shaved ice, but it is something worthwhile to consider if you want the presentation. As for the shaved ice, I wish the texture was more smooth. I bit several chunks of fairly large ice and the liquid syrup tasted a bit artificial. We got the Obama rainbow which had cherry, lemon-lime, and passionfruit, and the passionfruit was my favorite while the lemon-lime tasted like cleaning liquid.
I can see why this shave ice is so well loved and rated very high. Waiola is in a residential area but has a parking lot and some street parking. Theres also a cute store inside with tote bags, stickers, and tee shirts, and some other snacks too. As for the shave ice, the ice is really fine and soaks up all of the syrup. I got a small POG and lychee with condensed milk. My boyfriend and I ordered really quick and got our order within 5 minutes. Even though the ice is really good, I felt like their syrups were a bit lackluster and it tasted more artificial to me. My boyfriend really liked his, since he tried their melon and Thai tea flavors, which I thought were decent, but I couldn't help but notice the artificial taste for all of the syrups. I like how affordable this place is, and maybe I should've tried something else, but POG and lychee were one of their popular flavors.
This is a destination spot for Oahu. You must come here for their shaved ice and see their vintage store with home made signs. Hole in the wall, that's what they are. But famous, sooo famous for their shaved ice that everyone comes here to get a taste of this icy treat. They have a lot of different flavors to choose from. Our favorite is the large ice cream, liliko, lychee, & strawberry topped with condensed milk. I also like matcha green tea. It just tastes extra good because the Hawaiian warm weather makes you crave for icy sweet treat like Waiola's shaved ice. read more
Such a light, soft, and fluffy shaved iced. The best one I've tried so far. It melts quick. The Azuki bowl is very good. Reminds me of the Chinese red bean popsicles from the supermarkets. The lychee flavor and pineapple were also good. Lychee reminds me of the lychee jellos. Some of our cones had a bit too much syrup. The blue Hawaii reminded me of a blueberry flavor. We walked about 40 mins from our hotel to come to Waiola Shave Ice....for the pressed penny collector machine. Im a huge fan of getting the pressed penny as a souvenir so naturally, I needed to come here. And of course to eat the shaved ice! Kill two birds with one stone. Located at the corner of a residential area. I guess it's like a convenience store too? The shaved ice was a perfect snack since we walked about 2 miles. You order at the window and the bowl of shaved ice is huge! Plenty of flavors to chose from. There's a bench on the side so you can sit there and enjoy. read more
My daughter and I came here the other week after school one day. It's just been so hot and I just thought it would be such a treat for both of us to get some shaved ice. Waiola was on the way to her practice so we decided to stop by. We found it quickly and they have a pretty big lot for parking so we got a spot quick too. They have the perfect sizes for very reasonable prices. We decided to just share the cup size. It was $3.00. My daughter wanted rainbow flavor and we added ice cream and condensed milk on top. After we got it, we sat outside on the bench to eat it. My daughter loved it. She kept eating it and eating it. I think I squeezed in a few bites. That shave ice was gone in a matter of minutes. The shave ice was so smooth and soft it just melts in your mouth. I can't wait to go back again. I will definitely get my own next time. read more

My shave ice was too good that I forgot to take a picture when I first got it. This mom and pop is an oldie but a goodie. They have their system down on how to order, so take a look at the signs next to the register when you get there. Their shave ice is some of the softest around. By far the BEST shaved Ice in OAHU!!! This store is located on the corner of the street and has a small parking lot right next to the building. I ended up getting regular shaved ice with mochi balls and condensed milk and it was by far the best-shaved ice ever. The ice is so soft and melts in your mouth like butter. The mochi was also really soft and chewy. There are so many flavors you will not know which ones to choose. The service was okay, but they did not seem friendly when taking orders. They also have a tiny market in the back for groceries as well. Great local spot that I highly recommend. Will not disappoint at all. read more

The best shaved ice in Hawaii! Favorite flavors are mango, green tea, haupia , the red beans, ube drizzle, passionfruit, black sugar drizzle , condensed milk. They have more variety on the wall then the menus. Parking lot next door. Every time I visit Hawaii I come here twice. read more
Mirror mirror on the wall who's the smoothest of them all? Hands down, Waiola. We've had our share of shaved ice on all the islands. This one has the softest shaved ice and truest flavors. Honestly a little pricey for the size, esp the small (so go big) but worth it for the quality. Lines were ok both times we went. And they have a parking lot. read more

Simply my favorite shave ice that I've had on the island! Ordered the Ice Cream Bowl with the Rainbow flavors. Service was super fast, price was unbeatable at $7 for a large. Ice was so smooth & loved this summer dessert. Great atmosphere, family owned, and they have lots of goodies for purchase besides the shave ice. There's not a lot of seating here, so definitely plan for a grab and go, or enjoy on the outdoor benches. I think I would fly all the way back to Hawaii, just for this Shave Ice... read more

Decisions decisions decisions! So many flavors to choose from but I ended up going with a large passion orange guava (pog) with mochi and condensed milk! The shave ice here is really soft and the mochi is definitely a must! Perfect for the heat read more
Was quite worried because we came 15 minutes before 6pm closing time and previous reviews indicated they sometimes stop serving early...alas that was NOT the case!! We got there and there was still quite a line but it moved very quickly. Here's how it works: 1) tell them how many you're getting 2) what size for each 3) any toppings 4) what base flavor (max 2 per cup unless you're getting the rainbow) Again very fast service. They were unfortunately out of mochi when we got there but we got condensed milk and red beans as toppings (red bean comes hidden INSIDE the shaved ice fyi). Lychee flavor was my favorite - not too sweet. Then mango, passion fruit/POG in that order. The ice was so soft and blended well not crunchy at all!! read more
This shaved ice shop is super cute and fun. It's a colorful shop outside with shaved ice on one side and another side that has snacks and other groceries. They offer a lot of different syrup flavors and toppings to choose from. They don't give enough condensed milk so you probably will need to ask for extra. Wasn't my favorite shaved ice spot in Honolulu but definitely had to visit and try it once. read more
A great shaved ice place to try when in Oahu. Ice was super flight and fluffy the syrups were natural and not too sweet. I also like how they put a good amount of syrup so it reaches the bottom. Waiola was recommended by several friends so it was definitely hyped when we stood in line to order. I ordered 3 flavors with ice cream: strawberry cream, coconut, and orange cream. The gal making my shaved ice was pouring super liquid-y syrups onto my shaved ice which made me doubt the end result. As I had expected, the shaved ice had a texture that ended up hurting my tongue. It gave me Slurpee vibes but worse. For me, Waiola was ranked the lowest out of all of the shaved ice we tried in the area. The shop itself was cute but packed with overpriced knick knacks. read more
This little shop is open until 5 pm every day so stop by for a sweet treat after your time on the beach or if you are in the neighborhood. They have several toppings like Kochi, condense milk, chocolate sauce, or have it plain with 2 of your favorite flavors / one of their rainbow mixes or for a small fee extra flavors. My favorite shave ice in Hawaii! The shave ice is perfectly light and fluffy! It felt like you were eating "recently fallen snow." The flavor options may be overwhelming, but go with what you like at that moment. That is the lesson I learned from my first shave ice experience trying to go with what flavor combo was popular. My boyfriend's family is from Oahu, so we came for Christmas and New Year's. Waiola Shave Ice was high on the bucket list, not only because of Hawaii Five-O, but because of the amazing texture! They have so many flavors and combinations are endless. Truly an amazing, melt-in-your-mouth experience! This location is in a quiet residential area, and the light blue building definitely stands out. All of our orders came out quickly, and each flavor was perfect on its own but also mixed well (we got POG, mango, and pineapple). The texture of the ice is probably the most perfect out of all of the places we visited. They also have combos picked out that are super interesting and a huge variety of toppings. Would definitely recommend swinging by! read more
Waiola was a perfect treat during these hot Hawaiian days. I got the Obama Rainbow which features cherry, lemon-lime, and passion fruit. I also added condensed milk. The ice is freshly shaven from a large block and was amazing in texture. The snow was nice and fluffy. The condensed milk mixed with the flavored syrups were also really good. Waiola probably serves some of the best shave ice I've had on the island. I'd definitely come back. read more
Staff: The lady was moderately friendly but could turn up the nice notch a tad Quality/Quantity; Wow, this shave ice is AMAZING! It is silky smooth, soft, flavorful, and refreshing. Forgot what flavors we chose but it was oh so yummy. Value: Fair Location: I'd personally visit during the day vs night. Not to say it is a bad area as I don't know it, but just my personal thoughts. It is on a corner inside of a neighborhood and attached to an actual house, I think. Overall: Huge fan of this place. I love the hawaii five-o for both its taste and the fact its from the show! - One of the oldest shave ice stands so they know what they're doing and has always been consistent - Friendly staff that work hard and you never wait too long to get your shave ice even if there's a line Cons: - Street Parking only so could be rough finding parking - Only two benches so you might need to eat it in the car Overall - Will definitely come back as it is a Oahu staple for me! read more
Totally in love with this shave ice, if that's even a thing! Hawaii 5-O and melona are my two favorite flavors. You can get 3 flavors if you select one of the rainbow options. Otherwise you can select two flavors. The texture of the shave ice is so thin and soft that it melts in your mouth. The syrup that they use is very flavorful with just the right amount of sweetness to it. The two pairs perfectly together! The parking can be a challenge. There is a small parking lot on the side or street parking. The line is usually long but if you go on an off hour it's fine. Either way, it's worth the wait. I would say this is the BEST shave ice on the island and I've tried a few different places. One other thing, it's cash only! read more

This little shave ice shop hidden in a neighborhood in a store is our favorite! Not only is the price fair but the ice is so soft and delicate. It's not icy like Matsumoto nor does it harden over time when it melts. The syrups are not too sweet and taste pretty natural. We love coming here whenever we are in town. Perk also is that they don't get syrup everywhere either so it's a relatively clean eat! Service was fast and speedy. read more
STILL not a fan of Waiola...gave them a second try, but this was after having Shave Ice on Maui for 7 DAYS STRAIGHT at Ululani's. Still don't see the big deal about this place...their ice melts super quick and their syrups have a fake imitation taste. It was a hot day and this is the perfect place to hit the spot. I was very much surprised that the shave ice was smooth. Not crunchy like some shaved ice places. It wasn't overly sweet and the vanilla ice cream was a nice touch. The line wasn't too long and service was fast. Seating is limited to benches. Parking is limited as well. There's a small parking lot with stall that are at an angle. Good luck backing out. My kids want to go again. So we'll probably come by again. read more

Small kid time- not really but Waiola Shave Ice is perfect for pretending you're a kid again, minus the rubber slippers. After working out or a swim at Ala Moana, check out Waiola to remember the good times. Strawberry, coconut or passion fruit "lilikoi" (lots of other flavors), add red bean (an) and ice cream for a delightful summer treat! The only sad part is not eating it quickly enough before some of it melts. Try the rainbow flavor or the Obama (cherry, lemon lime and passion fruit). Add some li hi mui as a nice dessert! read more
The reviews do not lie! Best shave ice! My bf was insistent on coming to Waiola shave ice after a disappointing trip to Uncle Clay's. I'll give credit when credit is due. He made a good call. The shave ice is so amazingly fluffy! We shared a small passionfruit, coconut and guava with a condensed milk topping. This tiny little shop is located in the middle of a residential area. There's a small parking lot on the side and a few benches set up in front and on the sides so you can enjoy your shave ice before it melts! Cash preferred, but credit cards accepted with a 4% surcharge. I can see what the shave ice hype is about after a visit here! read more

Whenever I'm home in Hawaii, I always try to eat shaved ice at least once. Waiola is one of the shaved ice places I often enjoy. They have so many flavor choices and options, it is hard to decide. I got the Azuki bowl which has Mochi pieces and condensed milk on top. Tried the ube and li hing flavors this time. The li hing flavor was not super strong and was really mild. The ube flavor was good. Some of the Azuki beans were still on the crunchy side and could have been cooked longer. The shaved ice itself was super smooth and melts in your mouth. Ive lived on the island all my life and have never heard of here or seen it. Such a cute little mom and pop shop for shaved ice! I also liked how they sold other cracked seeds and snacks inside. The service was quick! The workers were nice. Parking was easy to find (it was also like 3pm on a Tuesday) but there is additional parking in the front and side and next building on the left. read more
