I wish I didn't have to post this negative review. First on the positive side, I felt everyone at the Cary clinic was extremely welcoming and friendly. I really liked the doctor, which I'm not going to Name, very knowledgeable and great personality. Where things went wrong, went in for a C7 injection to treat a bulging disc, procedure seem to go normally, however, within 24 hours, I was dealing with a Dural puncture. Horrendous headache, dizziness, ears, muffled, all which were worse when sitting or standing. I understand there are risks associated with this type of procedure; however,, when I received a phone call from WAKE spine and told them of my symptoms, they were telling me that I must have a sinus infection. This was a nurse practitioner who had just reviewed my symptoms with the doctor on call and this is what they came up with. The fact that they had no idea that classic symptoms of a CSF leak is muffled ears or ringing in the ears, excruciating positional headache, dizziness, nausea, etc baffles me! I'm now on day six and feel like I am healing finally, but I could not with a good conscience recommend this clinic. read more

I recently received a bill for service from 6/19 of LAST YEAR from the Greenville office. Nothing for 9 months! Moreover, they are out of network (I'm in ECU Employee Plan, which everyone takes). I was referred from an ECU physician. Who knew? The bottom line is I get to pay more! Bottom line: you get I pay more. Watch your wallet. this doctors office was tasked with assisting putting injections in my lower back, they have failed for the last 3 weeks with zero guidance and no solution besides to pay out of pocket and pushed for us to pay out of pocket. While we were in the process to finding a insurance that fit with what we could work out. to them wasn't enough and essentially made their own policy for insurance after we ended up finding a new insurance that worked out, they texted the day before the appointment that we have to wait for insurance after they have the all clear everything was going to out before the appointment they still have yet to contact us to find faster solutions to get me out of pain and have little care that I am in pain besides taking pain medications that is running out. read more

However, this is the worst practice I have EVER encountered regarding reaching a person who can help you or to make an appointment. Front desk is a mess, can't get the practice manager on the phone. They canceled an appointment last week with two hours notice ( no worries, things happen) but when I had to cancel my 8am appointment due to vomiting all night, I was told I would be charged a $50 no show fee. I called and left a message on their voicemail at 3am. I love Dr. Hertzberg, but the rest of the office staff seems to be in chaos. The care was great HOWEVER if life happens and you have a death in the family and have to cancel and miss appointments you are released from the care of the practice with no consideration given to the circumstances and then are left with no care for whatever your situation is. Sending back to primary and starting all over again. I think some compassion and understanding would be beneficial in some situations. The staff at the front desk in the Greenville office were useless . I have attempted, on numerous occasions, to get information or assistance by phone. I have yet to receive a call back from the people I need to speak with and this is after a couple of weeks in making attempt. Beware of NP Princy Paul who simply does not know what she does not know and refuses to learn a 2 years out of her NP education. Dr Singh acts as a Medicare gate keeper by limiting care to his patients thus leaving me in pain Yet increasing clinic billing with too frequent visits Office manager; an LPN told me her job was to "protect her providers " when her license asks her to protect the public from bad providers. I couldn't imagine anyone being able to get an appointment at this organization since there is one phone number for all locations. If your phone call is not answered after a few rings, an automated message tells you to leave your private information and says you will receive a return phone call. Not a chance. I was referred to Wake Spine and Pain by my primary doctor after going to the emergency room in tremendous pain which left me unable to walk. The first problem was having to wait a week for the first available appointment. After five days, I could not endure anymore pain and tried to get an earlier appointment (see phone circus above). After playing the redial game for 30 minutes, a human answered and told me if I wanted an earlier appointment, I would have to go to a different location. Seriously? So what exactly does first available mean? I saw Dr. Hertzberg in Cary who came in from his track meet long enough to assess me from a distance. He recommended an MRI and prescribed serious drugs. He told me I most likely needed epidurals or steroid injections. I wanted a diagnosis, and refused the injections. The anti-seizure medication he prescribed sent me on a hallucinogenic trip where I was sure I was dying. Never touched those again! The pain medicine was something I learned was addictive, and I had to be on 3 times a day for several weeks before I could tell it's effectiveness. I stopped after two days. I tried calling Wake Spine again after waiting a week for them to send the order to get the MRI. Now in my 3rd week of unbearable pain, I had to play the redial game to get a human. When a woman finally answered, I told her their phone system was horrific, and I was unable to get a desperately needed MRI because their office had not sent the request. She tried to fault the radiology company, but I had already spoken to them. She tried to blame my insurance company, but I had spoken with them also. She said she would take care of it right away. Thankfully, I did get a call from the radiology office the same day. On my follow up appointment, I met with a PA and told her my reactions and concerns to the prescribed medications. She strongly encouraged me to go back on the pain pills and see how it went. I did not. She diagnosed me with significant disc degeneration, bulged discs, and narrowing of the spinal nerve. She recommended the same injections, and refused to believe what I thought the diagnosis was. When I asked why she did not agree with my diagnosis, she said because the MRI showed new damage. I asked if she had another MRI to compare it to and she said no. What she didn't know was I have X-rays that show the same disc degeneration and bulging discs from a year before. I would've told her about the X-rays but Wake Spine seems to believe in timed appointments. I don't know what the penalty is if they go over time, but it must be significant because it's very clear that you need to leave. I can't fathom how they stay and expand their business when they don't have time to answer the phone. My interactions with their staff made it very easy for me to never want to return. It has been 6 weeks of excruciating pain, but thanks to my chiropractor, I've made about an 80% recovery so far. read more

Answering machines and unsent prescriptions are what this place is known for. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME or MONEY! I have never written a google review but as a nurse for 15 years who has experience in the outpatient and acute setting I have to speak up as the mistreatment of patients has got to stop. The entitlement is disheartening as we are in this profession to help people. I am very frustrated because I see the issues and disparities from both sides. My time and my money has been wasted. I live 2 hours from Raleigh and decided to get a hotel to be close so there won't be any issues getting to my appointments. I made it to my appointment on time at 1055 for an 1100 appointment. I received a call at 1023 stating if I am not there by 1030 I MAY have to be canceled and reschedule. I told the front desk rep I was 20 minutes out and she said when I get there they can see IF I will still be able to be seen. For obvious reasons, that is not acceptable. I asked to speak to the office manager. I was on hold for 15 minutes with no answer so I hang up since I am driving. I received no call back. I make it to my appointment and the front desk rep looked at the clock and looked at me and condiscedingly told me I would have to be rescheduled. She did not attempt to call me back knowing my appointment was going to be canceled. I explained that I paid for a hotel and I do not live close and there was no resolution offered. I asked to speak with the office manager and a supervisor came out. Though pleasant, she offered no solution except to reschedule. I asked for the contact information for administration to escalate so that this does not happen to another patient. The request was refused and I was told someone would reach out. I have not worked since Thanksgiving due to spine pain and managing an autoimmune condition. This was money that I could have saved. No documentation I received stated that arriving 30 minutes prior was mandatory. I should have been told that the appointment time was actually 1030 and not 11 and the provider will see me at 1100. The incompetence of office staff should not fall on the patient and when the incompetence is acknowledged no resolution being offered is unacceptable. I wouldn't waste my time or money seeking care here though I'm sure Dr. Reis is great as he was specifically referred to me by my provider who previously worked with him but unfortunately you are only as good as your office staff and how they communicate and treat patients. We as patients encounter them before the MD and the trust is broken. Update: After reading more reviews, apparently their scheduling discrepancies are a KNOWN issue and they like to turn people away routinely. There obviously has been nothing done to remedy the issue and there have been multiple complaints about the front staff. Shame. read more

Im writing this review at 5am. My day starts with pain levels about 7-10 every single day. If i am lucky it will be a 7. I wrote a review a month ago but it disappeared? I saw Dr Hertzberg about a month ago. First his assistant came in ask me all the questions and was very sympathetic and made it seem like she cared. She told me he was already familiar with my case and already looked into my files. I was impressed. I felt relief that it seemed a doctor cared enough to start planning on how he was going to help me. Doctor came in and asked me what my history was with what has helped me. Since ive tried over at least 10 different pain relief from shots etc and most of them didnt work at all and some very temporary and slightly- I told him that over the years the only thing that really helped me was pain medication. I have tried many types of nerve and pain meds. This was the truth and not me asking for it just explaining. The last thing I want is to be on pain medication for my entire life but if i had to- i would take that over being in never ending severe pain. This doctor immediately told me he wasn't going to help me. "I don't give pain meds for headaches" was not said in a nice way- I let him talk and didn't interrupt but when he was finished over explaining without asking me other questions like what my pain ACTUALLY is - i respectfully told him "my headaches are not the problem its my severe neck pain" my headaches are not alllllllll daaaaay like my neck. I cannot even sleep because i have to sit up most of the might because i cannot put any pressure on my neck. I had a failed brain and neck surgery (it says this in my medical file from other surgeons) that really messed with my nerves in my neck and I have a titanium plate which I am allergic to giving me hell and it's tangled in scar tissue. It's a very risky surgery so I just live in pain. It's gotten progressively worse in the past two years but I've been dealing with it for six almost. He then proceeds to tell me that he can't do any type of injections because I'm missing part of my skull. Didn't want to offer me anything else and told me I should go back to Duke or move back to New York! Told me "you should just go back to NY" He is a complete jerk and i never wish bad on anyone but i pray doctors like this know whqt true pain is like even for a day. There is a saying "I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy" but my enemy is people who take my rights away and treat me inhumane. I went to this practice in the hope that they would help me with my debilitating pain that I am experiencing through out my spine. In my opinion The doctor had a condescending and mocking attitud toward my issue to the point I had to get up and leave. He tried to assure me to stay in which I did just to hear what he wanted to say. He did give a treatment plan but I do not feel comfortable staying with this practice after the first impression I had. Very unprofessional in my opinion.Now I still have to deal with this debilitating pain until I find a more sympathetic and compassionate practice. I will not return. read more

My family doc referred me here. I visited the location on Wake Forest Road The staff was friendly. Even though I filled out the registration form at home for some reason it did not transfer to the facility so we had to redo it. I was seen by a nurse practitioner but paid the full co pay required to see a doctor. I was surprised I was not seeing a doctor. The nurse was through and sent me off for x rays. My experience was average so my score is average. Once further treatment occurs I will come back and update this rating. read more

Disclaimer: This is a review for the Durant Road location. I arrived early prior to the office being open. As soon as someone came into the office and saw me standing outside the door, I was let in. I was seen about 15-20 minutes later. I saw the Physician Assistant, Anthony Robinson. He was so nice and actually listened to everything I had to say. He listed all of my options and explained which of those options would not be covered by my insurance. He was able to offer an immediate form of treatment which worked so well. While it hurt, I woke up the next day completely without pain. It was amazing! I didn't even realize how much chronic pain I had been living with until it was gone. He gave me a couple prescriptions as maintenance. Anthony was thorough and compassionate. I appreciate him so much. The only reason why I did not follow-up was because I left my job--the main cause of my pain. read more

Wake Spine and Pain I have decided to share my whole experience - hope it isn't too long - hopefully, it will help others. I was sent to Wake Spine and Pain back in January 2018 and saw Dr. Mark Reznik, I took an MRI with me for him to review and was informed that I would find relief through a course of 3 spinal injections, 5 further appointments were scheduled at this time (for injection dates and follow up appointments). Dr. Mark Reznik did not perform the injections as I had expected, instead, it was Dr.Timothy Reis who I had not met before - he did the injection without giving me anything beforehand. I have a phobia of needles and was placed in a wheelchair to compose myself after receiving the spinal injection at which time Dr.Timothy Reis came, stood over me and informed me that all future appointments had been cancelled because my insurance would not cover any future injections (this also included the follow up appointment for this visit so they were sending me away after receiving a spinal injection with no intention of having any follow up at all. After calling my insurance company to find out if this was indeed the case, I was informed that the doctor's office should be familiar with insurance protocol - insurance would have covered the injections, the doctor cannot get coverage for more than one at a time (obviously, in case no extras are needed) the request would normally be submitted after the follow up visit when the patient has been assessed to see if additional injections would be required - that is when the doctor's office would apply to insurance for approval of said procedure. By this time, I was in absolute agony, I called and asked to see a doctor because of my extreme pain. Again, it was someone new only this time I don't think it was an actual doctor - he seemed really unsure and just said he couldn't do anything. I asked for some pain medicine and was made to feel like a drug addict, this person also said he couldn't give me anything without permission from the doctor - He left the office and came back saying I couldn't have anything. I sat in my car crying, I have never been treated in such a disgusting way. I went back into the office - not to be rude, just to let them know that I didn't appreciate being treated that way. After wasting months with Wake Spine and Pain I went to Duke in April and saw Dr. Scott Lawrence Runyon who took the time to review the actual MRI images and returned to his office accompanied by a surgeon. They both said I needed surgery as soon as possible and couldn't believe I had been advised to have injections as it was obvious, they would not give relief. My MRI described L3-4 disc had separated and that a piece as large as 10 x 7 mm and spanning the length of the L4 had lodged into my nerve. I had my first of two operations two days later but because so much time had passed the disc tissue was not soft anymore, instead it was encrusted and hard to remove, also the amount of time wasted dealing with Wake Spine and Pain meant my nerve was pinched for so long it caused numbness and drop foot on my right leg which looks like it is going to be permanent - also, I am still in pain. My whole experience with them was a disaster and I would not recommend them to anyone. read more

The presentation of the procedure via laptop was a new experience. I feel very confident that I picked the correct place to do a procedure on my neck. I had a terrible experience in this office. They kept canceling my appointments,,they kept saying the haven't received my X-rays from WakeMed while I was struggling with back pain. It seems to me they didn't want me back there because I when I called WakeMed asking why they did not send the X-Rays, they said they did ... When I confronted Wake Spine & Pain (Cary office), they finally said that my X-Rays were there all the time! . I'm still in pain, looking for another doctor office where I can be treated with respect. Besides all this sad story they are billing me (37,00), for the appointment they asked me do not go because they did not have the X-Rays. In the back alley.Kept pressing me to do Rf ablations and nerve blocks in back of my head and neck. All made me worse. I started going to Wake Pain and Spine last November. I saw Dr Himanshu. I have issues with Sciatica. He suggested I have Cortisone injections. It was my right side first. I had 2 injections. I haven't had any pain since November 2016 with the right side. A few weeks ago, my left side became inflamed. I had 1 injection and am pain free. Dr Himashu is such a caring Dr. I'm thankful I was referred to him. You don't find a lot of Dr's who really care these days. So thank you Dr Himanshu for helping me have a better quality of life. read more

I have been to many doctors before Wake Spine and Pain. No one took me seriously until Laurence Holman. He listened, did required testing, offered sound options for me. My pain is likely chronic, but I never fear being left to suffer with an acute pain episode. I feel completely comfortable that they will take care of me. I have become so much more aware of how great he is/and the rest of the staff in the last few months, due to a recent move. I'm back talking to people who think I'm just a whiny middle-aged women who needs to be given drugs and shoved on for the next patient. The staff is also kind and responsive. I visited the office after Knee surgery. I had a horrific car accident that left me with disc L1 and L2 rupture. Knee cap dislodgement and multiple tear meniscus. The nurse not DR. looked my MRI before the surgery and prescribed PT and pain patches to ween me off hydrocodone; she said in fear of possible addiction. My ortho was only subscribing 1 10mg 3 times a day. She also prescribed colonodine which clearly states in the information packet it has adverse effects on patients taking Almodipine (blood pressure medicine). The pain patch as I discovered is highly addictive and is funded by the Federal Govt on the fight against opiates. However, there should have been extensive study to determine if patient would benefit. Nevertheless since offices receive tax bonuses for subscribing...... read more

I have no doubt that the team of medical professionals can assist, but getting past the front desk and bureaucracy is painful. My wife went for an appointment and wasted 2 hrs...never seeing a Dr! At first they said her deductible was $x, then they said there was a co-pay (our insurance doesn't have one), then they said we will bill insurance but came back after almost 2 hrs to say "If you don't pay the 25% then we just won't see you.". Seriously!!? My wife offered to pay but their confusion turns into an attitude towards my wife!? It was so bad, one lady at the desk said "Another option is to get a full refund and you can go to someone else" ...recognizing this is not how she would want to be treated as a patient. I am pretty sure this is not what Dr. Gwinn had in mind when he started the practice. Patients leaving the office in tears because of the office staff. Cigna has since confirmed that Wake is out of line with the process. In network....no bill up front at all. We would be happy to give it another shot, as the Dr's are the key, but something has got to be done about the office staff! read more

Very friendly staff & the Dr. was knowledgeable and easy to talk to. The only thing I would suggest as improvement would be when scheduling the first appointment, you should be upfront about the insurance policies you are in and out of network with. Okay I'm sitting here waiting on a friend to see the doctor and the receptionist is at the desk blowing her nose while a patient is scheduling an appointment with her how rude. I mean she has been sneezing and blowing her nose the whole time I've been sitting here with no sanitizer in sight. I have a problem with this because if you are sick stay home you come in here sneezing and blowing your nose in patients face and you hand them a clipboard to update information I wouldn't want to touch that after you sat there blowing your nose and sneezing all over everything.
