Going to the E.R. is never fun. It can be scary, nerve-racking, and you can be there unbelievably/unrealistically/unconscionably long. With Covid19 running rampid throughout the country, this is the last place I want to be. However, after being sent to the hospital by the urgent care doctor, and seeing a practically empty E.R. parking lot, and waiting room, I was relieved. As I walked in, I was greeted like I had just entered a store. The lady at the front desk, got me checked in before I could sit down. And as I went to sit down, I got called to the back. Everyone was very nice, and hospitable. The phlebotomists is one of the people I dread seeing the most (for obvious reasons). However, Mrs. B was very gentle, fast, and somehow has managed the craft of sticking me undetectably with that ginormous ( ; needle. I honestly could not feel the needle entering my hypersensitive skin. The nurses, and Dr. Salisbury (Please forgive me if I misspelled his name) were uber-nice, helpful, and explanatory. They kept the mood light, and fun which kept me from being nervous, and anxious. They all worked together seamlessly, and rather quickly to figure out why I was having abdominal pain. I was checked in, and discharged within two-in-a half hours. It was the best ER visit I'd ever experienced. read more

literally everything is horrible. it takes hours to get in, almost all of the employees are rude and incompetent, its crazy expensive, and this hospital has never done any good for me. I was in the hospital hallucinating for 3 days after an overdose, and i didnt speak to a therapist for HOURS. The staff were all extremely rude and didnt take anything seriously. If I can give 0 stars I WOULD. Brought my daughter into emergency room due to tightness in chest and sat in lobby for over 2 hrs with symptoms getting worst. I know she has a respiratory infection and trying get medical assistance yet we are given an attitude from receptionist. Kept being asked if I was coming or going, I said very politely I was being discharged, tried to show my paperwork, wasn't sure if there was more I needed to do and was basically told "get out of here, there's the door." I had no ride I had nowhere to go they kicked me out on the street after I had almost died just hours before. Horrible. And it was 3am by the way. read more

My first encounter was an emergency so I came very late at night. When I arrived there were 3 of us, the guard, the front desk/intake person and me. I was in so much pain I was in tears but the intake person took her time, was having computer issues and made me wait standing through the process. I wish she'd exercised a different method and moved the exchange along so I could be seen sooner since, again, I was the only patient there. Once in a triage room, it was as if the staff didn't believe I was in the pain I was describing. Not sure if they get these complaints regularly or if I wasn't exhibiting the signs, facial reactions and/or body language that suggested I was being truthful. At any rate, they weren't moving too quickly. However, after a CT scan revealed that not only was I being honest that also it was far more severe than expected, they immediately became compassionate and sprang into action. I just wish that compassion met me at the door. read more

Spent 30 minutes at a Wake Med ER. They took my temperature and blood pressure, swapped for strep, looked at my throat, and sent me on my way. I paid a $300 copay for ER services then they billed my insurance for $3,500 with $3,100 being "ER facility" fees. That's $103.33 a minute for close to nothing. After my insurance coverage, I owe them close to $1,300. Stay away from this horror show unless you have a life threatening emergency or a trust fund. read more

Worst place ever do not come here unless you are ready to wait an hour to been put in a room another hour to see a doctor and 2 hours to wait on your results when really all of the staff are sitting around laughing at the desk. They make you stay for 5 hours then tell you to go to Duke. The so called nurses don't even know where to put the ekg stickers at so that tells you all you need to know. read more

I'm writing this for my daughter. Yesterday she went into the hospital suffering from severe back pain. She is two months pregnant. We never saw the ER Dr the entire time only the nurse PA. Sadly it turned out my daughter lost her baby. The nurse PA was as unsympathetic as possibly could be. My daughter's husband is a Marine on deployment. My daughter was so confused and upset not understanding what happened. It all appeared to be so matter of fact with them. If you can avoid this ER, do it. read more

I'm writing on behalf of the women's obgyn center here. The visit went well. BUT, little did I know that a month later I was going to be charged all these extra charges for tests that I did not consent to. I went in for a simple test and was charged for 5 different tests that were sent off to a lab. Make sure you know what tests are being ran on you and dont let them sneak these extra "tests" into your appointment. The healthcare system is a complete joke, no one is out to truly help anyone anymore, its all about the damn dollar. Stay smart and tell them to test the bare minimum, don't be fooled like I was. Now I have to set up a payment schedule because I had no idea it was going to end up costing as much as it did. read more

I came to WakeMed via ambulance on February 13th, around 2am. I am currently 12 weeks pregnant, after throwing up blood most of the day, I started to have severe lower back pains. I have had minimal experience in the medical field, but I was certain it was my kidneys causing the problems. Let me be clear - I've never experienced so much pain in my entire life and although I do not particular enjoy hospital visits, I was extremely fearful for my health and my child's. I was absolutely shocked and disgusted with the way the nurses treated me. They treated me as if I was a burden, and my pain was not severe enough to warrant a hospital visit. Because the pain was so intense, I found myself vomiting off the side of the bed, when the male nurse heard me, he came over and slammed the waste basket down and stormed out. Not only was I incredibly apologetic for throwing up on their floor, I was embarrassed as well. Because I am pregnant, they felt it necessary to do a pelvic examine. The female nurse thought it was appropriate to raise her voice and give me attitude, when I did not follow her instructions to the T. Again, I apologized. I was on morphine and in an incredible amount of pain, I was literally focusing all of my energy on just functioning. I did not mean to disrupt anyone's evening or cause them extra work. I went to the hospital because I was fearful and in pain, not because I wanted to be a burden on the overworked nurses and doctors. As I mentioned previously, I have experience in the medical field, and that is NOT how you treat your patients. We are humans; we're scared and we're hurting, if you lack the ability to respect that, choose a different career field. I will say that my doctor was very good. In the few moments I spent with him, he was informative and kind. Unfortunately, he was the only redeeming factor in my 7 hour stay. read more

Quick intake is the only positive from this visit. As an RN I was completely disgusted at how disengaged and nonchalant the nurses involved in my care were. I have no complaints related to the PA. He did a full exam and tried to respond as best he could given his assessment and my subjective data. I had gone to be seen post accident at this facility as I had heard they work pretty quickly. I had begun to experience some after effects and wanted to get ahead of any complications. My back and its health is a big part of my livelihood. In my opinion, I feel like I was treated like a drug seeker....pretty sure drug tests were run on the blood samples as well as urine. I would never recommend this location as an ER solution regarding anything beyond broken bones or needing stitches. Clean and modern facility with comfortable waiting area(s). Went in in November - the place was empty and got right in and the nursing staff was great. The ER doctor however was incompetent at BEST and if I could remember his name I'd file a formal complaint regarding his competency. I had been ill for about 7 days with a stomach issue and GI distress. It got to the point that I had chest pains and started vomiting. Being a woman the symptoms of a heart attack are different than in men and I was concerned with my new symptoms. My blood pressure and heart rate were elevated which is to be expected and my potassium levels were low but that was also to be expected given I had started to vomit. My EKG was also a bit abnormal but nothing that wasn't expected with how I felt. The nursing staff stated my issue was probably not cardiac related but may be gall bladder related. They gave me an anti-nausea drug which worked great within a few minutes and my chest pains stopped very shortly thereafter. Enough said right? WRONG! The ER "doctor" continued to run tests - all my labs were normal, my abdominal ultrasound was normal, my heart rate and BP reached "normal" ranges and yet this "doctor" claimed i was setting up "for the BIG one" based on a slightly abnormal EKG and that I might not survive if I went home. He actually said "I'm afraid if you go home you'll DIE". After 6 hours of this continued nonsensical conversation I had to insist that I be checked out, paid $250 for my ER deductible, saw a cardiologist the next morning who proceeded to roll her eyes when I told her about his statements based on what she reviewed on my medical charts. At her suggestion, I did go through tests including eco-cardio gram, nuclear stress test, further EKG's and a CT scan as a precaution. I just got the results of my last test which was a CT scan versus a traditional heart cath this morning and everything was normal with NO concerns of any heart issues. Guy should be reprimanded or fired! AND I'M STILL GETTING BILLS FROM THEM. read more

I thought it was me until I read the other reviews. That place needs a makeover. From the time I walked it in the negativity began. The front desk personnel ladies(the black lady with blond hair and the other lady) were rude. Very condescending and as they were doing me a favor for coming there. The nurse and nurse aides are not at all courteous. They all need customer service training. It was not that they were busy because I was the only one there. U would think they could have been more accommodating. Lastly, when I left the lady up front said that my co pay was 90.00. I said why didn't u say what my copay was upfront. Was able to take my BlueSelect insurance and get scheduled for initial consult within a few weeks. Dr. Messer has been great to work with and i like the fact that they have multiple doctors on site as well as an ER attached to the doctors complex. Referrals were easy and after your initial appointment their online system for setting up appointments is VERY user friendly and you can see if appointments open up through out the day in case of emergencies. read more

I actually thought I was in the wrong place when I walked in! The waiting area is so modern and CLEAN! The admission staff at the front desk were super friendly. I was greeted as soon as I walked in. I literally only sat for 3 minutes before I was taken back to my room. The nurses and doctors were so professional and nice. My visit was very pleasant. I would not recommend the WakeMed Brier Creek ER. The ER staff seemed disinterested and bored. The fees were, in my opinion, excessive for the procedures performed, especially considering that the procedures did not fix the issue I came in for. I was given an estimated fee by the hospital representative who checked me out, but my final out of pocket costs, after insurance, were approximately 4 times the estimate provided. After speaking to a hospital representative about my experience, nothing was done, and I was more or less just given a lecture about the way health care is these days. I understand that others may have had a different experience, but mine was not positive, and I would not return to WakeMed. read more

If I could give this place a zero star I would. I have been here multiple times thinking that things might get better. I have had constant chest pains and each time I have come in they treat you as if you are lying and the doctor was very condescending. The nurse actually told me that I should have waited to come in and should have gone to my stress test the following day. They were very irritated and left the room without giving a call bell. I have been told that this is an emergency room and not the cardiologist. I have sat in my room and listened to alot of laughing and it seemed more of a party than a hospital. I have also gone in with Covid symptoms and the doctor actually stood in the door way...would not come in and said that he is not going to listen to my chest because I was getting an xray. He also said that they cant do anything for me ...they only provide oxygen. They act as if you are an inconvenience and they do not say to come back if the pain is getting worse. There needs to be an internal review of this hospital. I will never go back. Oh and the front desk...the girl was talking with her boyfriend before acknowledging me. Probably a great place to work if you want to work in a hospital but not be busy with any of those annoying patients! This place was virtually empty and you could tell they prefer it that way. I would only visit this ER again if I was unlucky enough to be hit by a bus directly on their doorstep. Who knew this many uncaring people could be gathered in one place? I was sent here by another doctor, solely on the basis that it was close by. With the exception of ONE of the ER nurses and the front desk staff, EVERY staff member treated me like I was an inconvenience to them. I should add that I was the ONLY patient in the ER for most of the day. I was checked in around 10:30 a.m. and checked out at 4:00 p.m. During that time I was mostly left alone in an ER room, given next to NO information about my condition or treatment (luckily, the PA at the Urgent Care who sent me to Wake Med had filled me in ahead of time on what they'd probably do), the main nurse in charge of my care was the coldest person I think I've ever met. The best word I can use to describe her attitude toward me, the patient, was contempt. When the doctor ordered an xray, the technician who came to get me had an attitude like I'd just interupted something very, very important and she was annoyed to have to come get me. (Doubly annoyed was she when I had the gall to ask if I might stop at the bathroom on the way there- the ER staff at Wake Med Brier Creek must not realize patients can't stay in a hospital room for 5+ hours without food, water or a bathroom break. I had to go out into the lobby to track someone down each time I had one of these basic, human needs and the nurse or doctor seemed genuinely suprised by my request.) Bottom line- I would never send a loved one to this hospital and I personally would have to be bleeding on their door step before I'd ever consider going here. read more

My wife came here when we had a scare early in her pregnancy due to spotting. They took an ultrasound but hardly gave us any information. At a check up at a different hospital, we later learned that they could have told us in a lot more detail what condition the baby was in. It's like they wanted us to be afraid. Then, when it came time to leave, we had to sit down with a payment officer, but wouldn't let us pay at the time of service. Instead, they had multiple parties bill us independently via snail mail without any real detail. You have to call an automated messaging system if you'd like to request that an itemized bill be mailed to you. read more

One of the rudest receptionist I have ever encountered. I went here for the first time due to a nasty cold/flu. I have insurance but at the time I couldn't pay the co-pay. The lady told me I signed a contract with my insurance company to pay a co-pay whenever I needed medical care. She then looked me up and down as if i needed to figure something out or leave. I was stunned but i asked if there was anything she could do. She huffed with a sigh and said there were no managers on duty and she would have to get the approval. Mind you I am sick. I would like to start with their online system they have which is ridiculous, I could never access it nor find someone who could help me, I kept getting transferred department to department and it never got solved, part of the reason I stopped going. Then today... 7 months after my last visit I am now getting called by debt collectors for a $35 payment that I never received in the mail, email or a phone call, how am I supposed to pay a bill that I could never access the system to pay and couldn't find anyone to help me access... I called today to get records of it and I was hung up on. That's just today, another reason I stopped going there is because the doctors are pushy, they just try to push you out of their as fast as possible and don't really give a crap, he was trying to put me on multiple different medicines without a true diagnosis, when I went there for an emergency room visit and I got the bill, I noticed to not by surprise... they fluff their expenses on everything. I would not recommend this place ever I have had a bullet in my foot for 7 days and Doctor Curtis gave me the worst service I could imagine first I thought I scheduled this appointment to get my fragment removed but it turns out they just wanted to "look at it" and Doctor Curtis scheduled me an appointment to get it removed 7days from Today so I have to remain with a bullet in my foot for two weeks prior to is getting removed so I'm upset but I hold my tongue , she leave and then MD Mark Walked in to wrap my foot in gauze , I proceed to ask him if he has anymore gauze I can use to wrap my foot and he says "no she told me to give you band-AIDS" then I asked "so why are you wrapping it right now" and he said "because I'm being kind" so then I said " Id rather do it my self if you don't mind" and he said "Why Can't You Just Accept My Kindness" I Said Nothing So he repeated his self and raised his voice so I looked at him and said Nothing. He left the room .. When he left the room he slammed the door and Said the rudest thing , he called me a "Piece of shit" talking to another nurse, the nurse said "what he do" I didn't hear the rest of what he said but my mother and my girlfriend did , so another nurse came in idk why I guess to see what the problem was but she left after being in the room 10 seconds read more

I went to this so-called "ER" today because of an ulcer that formed on the inside of my cheek due to an impacted wisdom tooth rubbing against it. I should've trusted my intuition and just went to a dentist but I listened to my family. They thought that it was an infection/abscess that I would need antibiotics for but my cheek was just irritated from the tooth. Anyway, the only redeeming qualities about this "ER" is the fact that it stays empty (I wonder why *rolls eyes*) and you get seen extremely fast. Oh, and there were 3 people that were actually pleasant to deal with. One guy who came in to restock some gowns, another guy that does registration, and then the nurse I signed out with before being discharged. The receptionist "Melody" was curt and rushing as if she was so busy with incoming patients when there was literally no one in the waiting room. Matter of fact, she was the ONLY receptionist there so that goes to show you how empty this location normally is. She needs to work on her people skills. Moving on to the nurse, she was very cold and once again acted as though she was sooooooooooooo busy - again, I reiterate, the place was EMPTY. The PA then came in and didn't do any better. She seemed disinterested and irritated. She didn't even really look in my mouth. Just flashed a light in there and said that she didn't see an abscess. She warmed up a tad bit once she sat down and I explained further about what was going on. This experience definitely left a bad taste in my mouth. Close to everyone needs to work on their social skills/demeanor. If you're not from the area, don't come thinking that because it's Raleigh Wake Med (Brier Creek) is so upscale and better than other hospitals because it's not. Peace. read more
