We found Avance Primary Care while searching online. Their staff and care reviews were excellent and appt days and times seemed very easily accessible so we called. That very first phone conversation with the receptionist (unfortunately I didn't write down her name :/ it may have been Victoria??) was extremely warm and patient and helpful as I explained mom's needs. She listened carefully and asked thoughtful questions and recommended Dr. Lam. (Mom had definitely not been exactly keen on this whole new doctor plan and had been dragging her feet for a very long time.) Upon entering the office we were immediately greeted cheerfully and warmly by Anthony and Shirley at the front desk. They definitely put mom at ease throughout the check in process with their easy lighthearted banter and professionalism. Anthony directed us to a private computer cubby and very patiently explained how to fill out all the new patient forms electronically. Medical Assistant, Cierra, brought us back to the exam room and completed the initial assessment and vitals with just as easy and welcoming and professional manner. She was also very caring and thoughtful and concerned as I expressed some thoughts about mom with her privately. Dr. Lam came in and from the moment she stepped into the room she worked some magic and absolutely engaged mom from the get go! She was smart, insightful, caring, respectful, and gently got right to the heart of mom's needs while addressing and calming her fears and concerns. We made follow up appts with Dr. Lam and two of their other on site health care practitioners to additionally address mom's varied needs. She also set up referrals to two other outside practitioners in the area for more specialized health care needs. We feel we definitely made the right choice! Mom expressed that she would feel very comfortable going to see them on her own for any care she may need!! Thank you to the whole staff for a wonderful first experience! I'm sure mom will talk about this positively with her friends at The Gardens and I would without hesitation recommend this practice! Elaine Elbeery (for Barbara Poole) Winterville NC

Never examined my rash or felt around my stomach to figure out where exactly the pain was coming from. We did agree to do blood work, but she would not let me know which blood tests she wanted to order and the cost for each. She just wanted me to show up and have blood vials taken--could be 1-5 vials. Who knows! I said this was not acceptable and that I wanted to know what tests were going to be performed and the cost. They said they could only tell that to me the morning of the blood draw. I said, nope...I would like to know ahead of time so I have time to research each test and decide which ones make sense to me. They finally agreed they would call me in a few days with this information. They NEVER did!! They called, but it was to schedule my follow-up appointment for a few months from then. They also ordered some kind of sleep test for me without my approval, which of course I would then have to pay out-of-pocket. I immediately cancelled the sleep test with the company. This is a money-making racket! They clearly don't care about patient care and cost to the patient. I will NEVER return!! Lastly, the front desk people are grumpy and unfriendly, and the place is dirty. Yuck!

The physicians were good, the rest of the staff leaves something to be desired. After my 1 year old…read moresuffered what seemed to be an allergic reaction to peanuts we took him to WF Peds (Our primary care at the time) to draw blood for allergy testing. They drew blood but warned us that they may not have gotten enough. They said they should know the next day of the lab needed more blood. A couple days passed and we never heard anything so we assumed they got enough blood and were running the tests. A week later we call to see if they got the test results back and we are told "We didn't get enough blood". We were told that the lab would know right away if we didnt have enough blood, why did it take us calling a week later to find out instead of someone calling us? So we go to WakeMed to get someone who knows what they're doing to redraw the blood for allergy testing. Told it will take 1-2 weeks for results, and they will send them to Wake Forest Peds. We get a call 2 weeks later saying my son does have a peanut allergy, so we set up an appointment with an allergist. The next day, they call my wife to say "Hey sorry, we didnt get enough blood for testing, we need to redraw". Confused she tells me about the phone call so I call back into Wake Forest Peds, ask if he as an allergy or not since they just told us 2 different things. The nurse I talked to says "yes he does have a peanut allergy". At this point, they have now flip flopped multiple times on whether or not my kid is allergic to peanuts or not so I ask for a physical copy of the test results. I go into the office to pick up the paperwork, which shows there is a peanut allergy. What frustrates me the most is that not a single person took any responsibility and just simply said "Hey, sorry about the miscommunication". After this we decide that were done and so move to a different primary care provider. Our Allergist appointment finally comes up, my wife takes my son and the Allergist tells us, WF Peds never sent his results over. The allergists, calls WF Peds, who set this appointment up for us, and they tell them 1) that they never told us he's allergic to peanuts, and 2) that they can't send them the paperwork because it's against policy. Luckily, I kept the paper copy they gave me and was able to scan it over to the Allergist. Even the Allergist said "I see why you left that place." This place is unorganized and unprofessional. Do not take your kids here. TLDR: Son had allergic reaction to peanuts, was told he didn't have an allergy then told he did have an allergy, WF Peds flip flopped multiple times.
