The other staff was wonderful but I can only give one star for the care I was given from the doctor. l messaged at 8:00 am this morning through my Portal for assistance with a UTI infection. As a client for 20 plus years you would think you could rely on your Dr to call in a prescription as I was out of town and in a very rural place. And I am pretty sure all women know what a UTI feels like. Anyway we went back and forth on the portal for 4 hours and then when they were getting ready to close at 12:15 on Friday they told me they couldn't help me. I then set up an appointment with CVS virtual care and within 1 minute of me finishing my paperwork they called me and I had 2 prescriptions sent in immediately. Bottom line Garner Internal should have told me at 8:00 this morning they weren't going to do anything instead of dragging me on for 4 hours. read more

Jim McCann is my P.A., and I am more than satisfied with him. He is direct and to the point, which I find helpful from a health professional. I don't go there to hear what I want, I want the truth. He always takes his time and explains things to me, and I never feel like he's rushing. Furthermore, I've never been upset with the decore of either of his exam rooms, but then again, I wasn't there to critique his taste. As far as the staff, I find them quite pleasant. What I find to be a general rule, if you are nice to them, they are nice to you. And as we all know, it's nice to be nice to the nice. read more

I just went for my new patient visit after my physician left the practice I had been attending. I was pleased with the wait time, nurses manner, and office staff. I saw PA Jim McGann and he was really friendly and knowledgeable. He is obviously well read and knowledgeable. I felt like he spent enough time with me to hear my concerns. I did not feel uncomfortable at all and he was warm and friendly. I am glad to have had a positive experience with a doctor who listens to me and makes sure he is through. It was also nice to visit an office that has appointments available at 3 pm. Being a teacher, sometimes it's necessary to come after work instead of having to take a half day to make an appointment. The office was clean and well organized, near White Oak, and easy to find. read more

I had a horrendous experience at this office. I recently moved to the area and saw a Mr. James J. McCann for my wellness visit. First off, the man is a PA, not an actual doctor. His office is filled to the brim with army and war photos, and an artistic depiction of Genghis Khan. Not exactly soothing. During the wellness visit, I advised him that I was in the process of losing weight and that I had had problems with eating disorders in the past, and had been diagnosed by my psychiatrist (a PhD) with an anxiety disorder, and that while I know I'm overweight according to the BMI I preferred not to discuss it due to those reasons. His response? "Oh no, we're going to talk about it". He then proceeded to chastise me for my weight, and told me I had to lose a minimum of 50 lbs, "and that's being generous". I used to weigh 300 lbs and am currently in the 180s, so he wanted me to get to 130lbs if not lower! This was despite the fact that all of my labs, blood pressure, sugar levels, you name it, all came back normal and there was nothing wrong with me. He upset me so much that I had a massive anxiety attack and had to be talked down by my therapist. We discussed reporting the man for malpractice and, at this time, I haven't decided whether to do so. For kickers, I brought him an MRI of my knee. I have chronic knee problems and an urgent care doctor ordered the MRI to see whether I might have a slipped or torn meniscus. McCann's response: "I don't look at MRIs. They don't show anything. They're just a scam." I'm sorry, but this not-even-an-MD doesn't belief in the efficacy of MRIs? What a quack. My guess is the guy is just your typical meathead who kept his military attitude in lieu of any bedside manner, and is furthering some sort of bodybuilding agenda (he also told me to drink no other beverage other than water). I find his actions despicable and would highly advise anyone looking for a doctor to find an actual MD and not this quack. read more

I read the other reviews and I hear and agree what they are saying about the front desk staff...If you don't like your job do something else! What makes the office the only place I would ever want to be treated is my Doctor. Jeffery J. Breiner, M.D. is great. He has been my doctor for about 6-7 years. He listens to me, and helps me, his referrals are spot on. Often with a doctor they are so busy that they only hear the beginning of what you say and then they are writing in your chart the whole diagnosis and suggested treatment. He listens very closely, he has never steered me wrong. after all, it called a doctors office not a front desk office. read more

Dr. Mayer was absolutely miserable. She was extremely rude, insensitive, and frankly didn't seem like she wanted to be bothered by me. She insulted me, rolled her eyes at me, interrupted me several times, and was just all around rude! I was very pleased with my first visit to see Dr.McCann. He spent at least 30 minutes with me discussing my family history and sis not seem to be in a hurry to get to his next patient.This was unlike the previous Dr from another practice that I had seen a total of three times, and each time I was treated lime I was a waste of time and all he needed to do was get to the next payment come g unto his office. Dr.McCann was very caring and thorough, even his nurse that did the preliminary questionnaire boosted about how all his patients LOVE him. I will definitely be a return patIent of his. He " shot it STRAIGHT" with me and I appreciate that trust with a doctor. Doctors don't need to "sugar coat" anything with their patients, there is no good if you only hear what you want to,especially from so.eone that is one the outside looking in on your health issues!! The doctors are great, don't get me wrong, but the office staff is TERRIBLE. Trying to get blood test results and prescription refills is always a very difficult process with this staff... and these are very stressful things in the first place, but this staff makes it even more stressful. The office staff is rude, apathetic, and downright lazy. You have to be a very patient person to deal with the office staff and I am not patient enough to deal with them. I will repeat, the doctors are great... but I will be switching to a different doctor's office that hopefully has a better office staff than this one. Do yourself a favor and find a doctor's office that has good doctors AND a good office staff... This staff leaves a lot to be desired. read more

And there are a few ladies who are sweet but the girl at the front is just unpleasant period, always has been. I'm on 3 blood pressure medication ,(losartan, hydroclorizine and metoporol) and was feeling dizzy and faint for almost a year. Went to see PA Jim McCann a few times with my concern and the last 2 visits I felt rushed. The first time I mentioned it to his nurse and she apologized and said that he over books his patients. Then I referred my neighbor to McCann and he felt the same way that he doesn't have time to hear your concerns. He stated the he goes down a check list (for a phisical) and then moves you out like cattle. On my second visit I already on my own cut back on half on my losartan and htz 3 days before my appointment due to not wanting to pass out. Still feeling dizzy McCann said stay on that for a while and see how you feel. I said I cut back already and feel the same, He said give it time. The next day I went to a cardiologist and they took me off of 2 meds, the losartan and the htz and cut my motoporol in half. My cardiologist said with my blood pressure being that low, 84/58 it's not rocket science to stop the two and cut back on the other. He also realized when he looked back at my chart from last year that my cardiologist stated I lost 22 pounds and was on the same meds and your pa should have realized that. Since then my blood pressure is 118/74 and I am no longer dizzy. I called Garner internal medicine to let them know what happened and to let them know I will be going with another practice. Update, after I spoke with the nurse and explained what happened, she updated McCann in which I must have hurt his ego because they sent me a letter stating they are not going to provide me care anymore. I already have another physician my cardiologist recommended, and told McCann's nurse I was not going to let them provide care due to the improper treatment. Jim is a nice guy but he needs to go back to the way he was and slow down a bit, it's not about the dollar, it's about the care. I should have been with a Medical Doctor and not a PA. He lost myself, my neighbor and another friend as patients. read more

How hard is it to set an appointment and let the patient know? My husband is ill. Very ill. He needs a specialist for his liver. Both specialists he was referred to out of this office has ended horribly. The first gastro doctor would not return calls or call us with blood tests results. So we asked for a new specialist. They said they set the appointment and would send him the paperwork to complete before his appointment. No paperwork ever came. He then called the second specialist to find out where to go and they had no appointment record for him. I am so angry. This is my husbands' life. Get it together GIM. read more

My doctor there has always treated me very well. I have been seeing him for years for everything from yearly check-ups, high blood pressure, gout, etc. It's the little things however that are beginning to become a "large" inconvenience, but even that is a mixed bag. Until recently, I had rather slam my hand in a car door than try to get them on the phone. While that has improved the last two or three phone calls, other things have not improved. One thing that has not improved is quality and accuracy of communication. I have repeatedly asked that ALL my medications be on the 90 day refill plan. Somehow, that does not stay on their radar from one series of refills to the next...which causes an untold amount of backlash when I try to straighten it out each time with extended phone calls to all entities involved. The other thing that is a big problem for me is that they close early every Friday. When it's all said and done, I'm not as happy now as I have been in the past with the total picture. I have been with them long enough that I hate the thought of starting to look elsewhere for a replacement, but it can happen. read more
