Probably, one of my fave hotels in Europe, WakeUp Copenhagen is large super clean, reasonably priced hotel. It's rated a 2 star, and to be honest a 4 star hotel in Copenhagen is not worth it. Most hotels in Copenhagen are needing revamp. So I picked this on rave review on Yelp and trip. It's your standard small space for a hotel room in Europe/Asia. If you want more room, there are larger family rooms with a bedroom. You're in Europe.... hotels are different. But there's inventiveness in design of this hotel: it's utilitarian, each thing in the room has a function. As you settle in, you realize it took the designers lots time to tie a function to any innovation to the room. It's space age-y and it works, almost Clockwork Orange-y and comfy. The layout here is also similar to hotels you'd find in Japan..... very ZEN! The breakfast is a typical Scandinavian/German spread: musli, cereal, yoghurt, 2 -3 charcuterie items, (the pate was super yummy on a seeded bread), cheese, Danish butter, nutella, fruit, boiled eggs, coffee, juice. WIFI was solid and encrypted. Visits: 1 (4 nights) Tip: Ask for a 12th floor, or high corner room, 2 windows (small fee) and look at the entire city. Skies are beautiful in København and love the top floor views here. To get to the metro/trains you walk 7-10 min. Theres a bus stop 2 blocks away. A block a way where the Tivoli Hotel is there are free shuttles and a real bus stop. There are 2 branches of this hotel, pick this one (Carsten Niebuhrs Gade) because it's close to the Tivoli Gardens, main train station and accessible to many attractions. There is no coffee-maker in room but go downstairs and they will make coffee/tea for you for cheap. You can also get snacks, sandwiches and a wine/champagne for a good price too. Bikes are everywhere in Copenhagen and you can rent bikes at this hotel for cheap too.

...but my sister and I slept widthwise in order to have more room. One benefit of being short :)

Wakeup Copenhagen is classified as a "budget hotel". Despite the lower pricing (we paid about $113 per night), it's not a low quality hotel, and it's really quite nice. It's a newer hotel (our location was built in 2009, the other location in 2014), clean, and has style. It's also a convenient 10 minute walk from Central Station (which itself is a quick train ride from the airport). The rooms are small, however they are clean and quiet, and the water in the shower is actually hot, which was much appreciated after just staying in a hostel in Iceland where the water never got quite hot enough (and this is from a country that has an abundance of geothermal energy and hot water). There is also free wi-fi throughout the hotel as well as desktop computers for guests to use in the lounge. Overall I was very satisfied with Wakeup Copenhagen, and would recommend this hotel. However, there are some minor inconveniences/things to note: 1. They will not provide an extra pillow. On my travels throughout Europe, I've discovered that hotel pillows are soft and mushy (even the thicker ones that appear to be firm) and inadequate for people who need a firmer pillow and some elevation (I'm definitely going to bring a small pillow the next time I travel!). Wakeup Copenhagen was no exception. However, hotels (even the hostel in Iceland) generally are willing to provide an extra pillow (even though a second pillow still doesn't cut it because they are so soft). But not Wakeup Copenhagen. I even asked if I could pay for a second pillow, but nope--they simply WON'T provide a second pillow. They did, however, give me some extra towels to fold underneath my pillow. 2. They do not have rooms with two single beds--you must share a bed with your travel companion. (My sister and I were aware of this when we booked the room--we did extensive research when booking accommodations in Europe.) While the bed wasn't a luxurious queen sized bed, it was perfectly adequate for a couple, but a little uncomfortable for two people who aren't on intimate terms (incest just ain't my thing--no Flowers in the Attic moment for us!). However, my sister had a good suggestion--to rotate our orientation 90 degrees and sleep widthwise instead of lengthwise. We are quite short (I'm five feet tall and she's just a shade shorter), so our feet barely hung over the edge of the bed when fully stretched out, and we had plenty of space between us. We were quite comfortable, save for the mushy pillows. 3. I do not recommend the breakfast. The breakfast consisted of an assortment of cold cuts, sliced cheese, bread, eggs, etc, similar to several of our other accommodations. However, the quality of the food just wasn't good (even the hostel in Iceland, which had a similar breakfast, was much better). Definitely save your money and go to Andersen Bakery for breakfast, which is across from Central Station.

Maybe one of the best price/performance/location values in the city. If you dont need all sorts of amenities and are looking for no frills this is it. Im not hosting any gatherings and my time here is sleep mostly. Clean, modern, and within walking distance of several bus lines/central train station. Staff are nice to boot!

When I was looking for hotels in Copenhagen, most of them were pretty expensive. I found this place since it was in the back of the train station so it's not very close to restaurants/cafes but it's quiet at least. It is only a 10 minute walk to the front entrance of the train station. The room itself is pretty spacious for a hotel room in Europe. There were actually 2 chairs and a desk which was nice. The bathroom was interesting - the floor was heated and it reminded me of a space pod. Breakfast is not included but there are plenty of good bakeries in Copenhagen. You can head to the train station to get breakfast at Meyers Bageri for cheap.

The breakfast buffet was delicious as well and had a variety of options. The room was nicely decorated, bed was comfy, heater worked well during the winter, and there were amenities that we weren't expecting (toothbrush, toothpaste tablet, etc). I'd definitely stay at a Guldsmeden hotel again!

They give you a code and place it in a locked and video-monitored closet down in the basement. It was easy to do and safe for your belongings. After some exploring, I returned to the hotel around 4 PM and finally checked in. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that my single room had been upgraded to a larger room for free. I was stoked to hear that and loved the room and location they gave me. The room was beautifully furnished and was very clean! The only downside is the no AC. The temperature that day was in the low 60s (60-63 degrees). This may sound nice, but it was rather toasty in my room. They had a standing fan that, unfortunately, did not rotate, but it helped somewhat. And a shout out to my yelpie Bridget W. and my trippy Mette for both cluing me onto this veritable hostel paradise! THE SETUP So what happened is on my flight out of Stockholm, Sweden, I ended up with a one (1) day layover in Copenhagen before going on to San Francisco. Now, this was PLANNED - I knew I had the layover: it was either this or pay $400 more for the next least expensive round trip between San Francisco and Stockholm (and back). As it turned out, I was already spending 10 days in the Baltic States with friends, hitting Sweden, Estonia, Russia and Finland. Unfortunately, there was no time in that itinerary to hit Denmark (nor Norway, for that matter, though technically, although also part of "Scandinavia", Norway is not a Baltic state). So an extra stop on the return leg in Copenhagen for a full day presented itself to me and I was happy to take it. DOWNTOWN DISTRICT AND CLOSE TO AIRPORT As soon as I jetted back into Copenhagen Airport (my 2nd time here in addition to my 1st two (2) hour layover in this airport on way to Stockholm), I jumped into the rail-car at the adjacent train station. Not more than 12 mins, I was at the downtown Central Train Station, and only a block and a half from Urban House! URBAN HOUSE It's right on the corner, with the front door in the middle of the block (just a block and a half up from one of the train station's entrances). https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/urban-house-k%C3%B8benhavn-2?select=JZdnyOCkTnIibGTVoHJ-bA&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w The fees are very reasonable: at the time I was making my reservation for the middle of July, it was $35 a night in a dorm room. I pulled the trigger on a SINGLE room with a bathroom for only $94.71/night. Easily just a third of the cost of even the more "moderately" priced hotels in Downtown Copenhagen, near the airport. And most of the time I would be on a walk-a-bout and not in the room anyways, so I didn't want to waste my money there. The room didn't have a TV anyways - entertainment was outside of the room. ENTERTAINMENT! ..and speaking of entertainment, Urban House had a full-on bar / cafe / "Student Union"-feel open area at street level. In fact, the guy serving beers, took a quick break so he could check me in. The gal that was serving breakfast the next day was the one who checked me out: as it turns out, a good consolidation of tasks combined in their multi-talented staff. I ventured out in the afternoon and evening (twice actually) to grab some excellent Thai food back in the Train Station. And then again to a bar a few blocks away that was hosting a Jazz festival. There was plenty to do, places to eat, immerse oneself into the night life, all within blocks of Urban House. No car needed. THE ROOM As mentioned no TV, but that was not missed. There was a desk and chair which was nice since this is where I spent any of my waking-time while in the room. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/urban-house-k%C3%B8benhavn-2?select=NuynCk7VfBPS6-Fn4XhFuQ&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w The bathroom was a fascinating engineered piece of configuration, especially when it came to the adjacent proximity of the toilet and shower: a good economy of space! https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/urban-house-k%C3%B8benhavn-2?select=AJLhvC82t2aCaZBooEwbAw&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w There are never enough pillows wherever I go (hotel, motel, etc.), and unfortunately, this went doubly so for this. It's rare when I have to dip into my travel gear and find a jacket and extra pair of pants and fold/roll them up just so I can get a bit more height on the shallow pillow they give you. It is what it is. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/urban-house-k%C3%B8benhavn-2?select=T9RWvTNb8ZgaFlkcvFW5uw&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w THE LOWDOWN A reasonably affordable stop when touring through Copenhagen. Should I find myself traveling alone in this fair city once more, I totally would consider staying here again.
