This is a French Language school within JCPS. Today is Tiger Trot Day! One of the biggest fundraisers for the school. St. Matthew's has several teachers that have won teacher of the year. There is an excellent music/drama department!! We are looking forward to the next 5 years here!!!

My daughter in 2nd grade had a matching assignment (attached) where it indicates when she grows up the best thing she could do is "support her husband." What is this year, 1950? Other assignment attached is from my 6th grader and could give anyone religious anxiety. -Volunteer input is minimally considered, and unless you're good friends with principal/AD or a big donor, I felt that they don't care much about the regular parents other than frequent emails asking for more donations and fundraising. -Extracurriculars are severely lacking compared to other PK-8 private schools. Also multiple grades are taught in the same class by the same teacher. -Zero daily hot lunch option.

My son went on to be a Steinhauser scholarship winner at Trinity High School. With us being the working class of the world he was able to go there tuition free with his great grades. An opportunity that was greatly appreciated and earned. I always had good interactions with the staff and they were readily available to me. I would highly recommend this school to those wanting to avoid sending their children to public school. The cost wasn't high and was worth it.

Tuition fraud such as this sets a poor example for students and increases costs for parents who do not engage in deceitful behavior. I encourage anyone who does not wish to financially subsidize this behavior to vote with their checkbook and enroll their children elsewhere.

As a former student here, I have a unique perspective that outsiders may not be aware of. While the…read moreschool claims to promote "individual excellence," in reality, I was punished and relegated to the back of the room whenever I hiccuped or tapped my feet. I recall being loud and talkative in the past, but now I barely speak due to the way the teachers and several students treated me. The effects of that bullying still linger to this day. The bullies were once my friends, but they turned on me, and the teachers failed to intervene or hold them accountable. The group was led by one student whose parent worked at the school, creating a toxic environment where the teacher selectively disciplined the class. I was sent to the principal's office or the back of the room multiple times a day for things other students were doing without consequence. Notably, the teacher acted differently whenever another adult was in the classroom, showing she was aware her behavior was inappropriate. I attended this school for two years when I was 10 and 11; I am now about to turn 15, and hopefully, that puts into perspective how long this has affected me. This school silenced me. I was bullied almost every single day, and even after I left, some students continued the harassment. Another review mentions that the founder/principal knows everyone by name, but knowing a name is not the same as knowing a student's heart or ensuring their safety. Leadership failed to act when I was drowning in a toxic environment. I could say a lot more, but I've already given this school enough of my time and my silence. I am sharing this because I don't want anyone else to feel this way. Do not waste your money on this school; protect your child's mental health. The tuition does not provide safety in this 'Christian' environment."

This event was full of great vendors wonderful artists and some of the best wine and burton vendors of Kentucky! Everything was free bc of our donation for the ticket purchase! I recorded friendly hellos,, warmed welcomes, and wonderful generosity tonight! All of the bodies were very willing to share information about their business and tell me about great events by have coming up! Some of the more memorable ones include BBC, elk creek vineyards winery, and atria senior living catering. I will be posting booth details in photos taken and information about each vendor on their specific yelp site soon! The school offers academics that are challenging, but there is no homework in the lower grades! Waldorf emphasizes spending time with family and friends after school, not doing busy work. We like the traditional approach to class work, with students using paper and pencil, rather than learning on a screen. The small class sizes and student/teacher relationships are important to us as well. Overall, this is a great school option!

There is no doubt that the teaching philosophy at Virginia Chance School is exceptional. However,…read moreparents need to be aware that the school will not accept siblings of enrolled students unless you commit in writing to sending your children through the entire 9 year program. Having a child already enrolled in Chance does not secure your other children a place at the school. In our situation, our second child was denied a place at the school because we wouldn't explicitly commit to staying through the entire elementary program. I have also been told that we're not the first family to experience this. I know of no other school with this policy and in my opinion it reflects a desperate attempt to corner parents into keeping their children in a school that is struggling to keep kids enrolled.

This is a different kind of school. The students get a say in what/how they learn by picking…read morethemes, being able to move around in class, having the ability to think outside the box, and they learn how to think critically and solve problems with direction rather than being taught to sit down, be quiet, and do exactly as told. They have some choice in how things go and learn in a slightly off-beat way, making this great for kids with attention issues, kids who do not fit into a cookie-cutter mold, and parents who want a less traditional experience. The school has a "whole-child" approach meaning they do not focus solely on academics but also on things like kindness, diversity, proper health, etc. There is no cafeteria so students must bring their own lunch and those lunches are expected to be healthy. Many of the lessons are hands-on, especially in science. The preschool program is really top-notch and results in students learning reading skills and math in a quicker and more efficient way. Class sizes are small and the school itself is quite little. The big downsides are the price and location. Its not conveniently located by much of anything but this allows for a huge lot to play on, learn on, and use for gardening/greenhouses, and cross country running. The school has large windows and does not cover them with blinds so kids cannot see outside--there is more freedom than that here. The tuition is HIGH and this is not a place most can afford which is very unfortunate as so many kids could benefit from it. Of course, much of that tuition goes to the "higher ups" and results in huge salaries and you do get quite a lot of the private/independent school politics here.
