    Waldmann Schnitzel

As someone born and raised in Franconia in Bavaria, I was really excited to visit Waldmann Brewery and experience what I hoped would feel like a taste of home. While I can appreciate the effort and the atmosphere, the food just did not quite hit the mark for me personally. The dishes felt more American influenced than traditionally German, and overall they lacked some of the authenticity and flavors I associate with Bavarian and Franconian cuisine. Unfortunately, we did not really enjoy the food as much as we had hoped. [[HIGHLIGHT]]That said, the history and character of the building were genuinely impressive. The restoration work and historic atmosphere were easily the highlight of the visit and made the experience worthwhile from that perspective.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I think people looking for a local interpretation of German inspired food may enjoy it more than someone expecting a more traditional experience.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Such a fun brewery/gastropub in St Paul![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]You have to love the space. It's an old firehouse and the patio in the nice weather months is fire.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Parking can be tricky; there's not really a lot here, so you have to get lucky with the street. Staff are great here. They are always fun to chat with and will make recommendations if you need them. On our most recent venture here, I tried the spaetzle. Hubs had a burger and got the beer cheese soup. I had a bite of the soup and it was so good. The spaetzle was a little plain, but so tasty. You gotta try a beer here too. I had the hefeweizen, which I loved. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Definitely stop in the summer and enjoy the patio if you have the opportunity.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Beers and food combo. This is easily in the top 3 breweries I have ever been too! Let's start with the food Appetizers you must try are the Bavarian pretzel and bring a crowd so you can get the charcuterie board!! adding the beer cheese for three dollars is definitely worth it. It's pretzels, huge and they're made fresh and you definitely could tell. Most of the time I like to share so I like to do the wurst platter, please try the curry wurst. It's the best one ,the jalapeño cheddar is also a crowd favorite. Beers: every time you come in they have their classic he advising beers and they have a bunch of seasonal beers. Right now, I'm a big fan of the Dunkel, definitely a winter style beer. I'm a big fan of their milled wine. It's hot on tap in the winter. In summertime, I'm a big fan of the Kolsch! It's really hard to go wrong with anything! [[HIGHLIGHT]]I think it brings his brewery full circle is that you're in the historic house and it's a very cool setting. It's a great place to meet a bunch of people eat some food and have some beers. Have some great conversation.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The staff is very attentive and very knowledgeable. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a very simple. You get some food have a few beers and that's what woodburning stove in the winter. It's very cabin rustic vibes.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Overall, this is one of my favorite places to go if you haven't been there before you'll understand why when you try it.

    Love their tree!!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Are you looking for German food? A quaint little spot? A place that feels like you are being transported to somewhere other than Saint Paul? This is your place!![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It's nestled in between other houses, so if you don't pay attention, you could miss it! This is street parking and make sure you watch for signs so you don't get a ticket! There is no reservation option, so be prepared to possibly wait, as this is not a large place. With that being said, not plan on staying super long either. This is not the place to just sit after your meal and chat. There will be others waiting for your table! Plan on a max of 60-85mins. The service here was good. They treated you like you were a regular, which added to the cozy feeling of this place! We sat at the bar. My boyfriend got some beer and he loved it! The bread and butter was very simple but perfectly done! The sausages here are delish! The walleye tasted fresh and the veggies were perfectly cooked! Overall, this was a very fun little spot to find in Saint Paul and definitely with the trip!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Great service, amazing vibes, I love this place (except that I always spend a pretty penny when I go here).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I love the food here. The platter is great for trying a variety of things and I highly recommend sharing. Four brats doesn't seem like a lot of food but it really it. Definitely feeds 3-4 people. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Also a great spot to just have a beer, bring your pet (patio), and chill.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Great beer, good food, amazing patio, all with a little history to the building. First, it is a brewery so I feel like I should mention the beer. I love the German styled beers! The Dunkel is fantastic! Beautiful dark lager that is malty and toasty without being too heavy. I also tried the Waldmann Pilsner and it didn't disappoint. This Pilsner is full of flavor and delicious. Food was really good. Both the Tangy Beet Salad with chicken and the House Schnitzel was very good. Both plates were generous portions. The Greek Yogurt and Feta were a good touch to the salad. The Schnitzel sat on a generous portion of Spatzle. The Spetzle is so good that it is almost the star of this dish. I love the historic charm to this place. The patio is beautiful and check out their music schedule I would love to watch an artist perform out on the patio. All of this with great service too!

Fun, classic German beer spot with great service! [[HIGHLIGHT]]In a small, warm, cozy space, they do table service with classic German food and beers.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They have some wines as well, along with some non alcoholic options. The beer selection was a bit limited, and one beer was also tapped out. The food was super authentic, and our service was quick. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's got a dark bar vibe, so in the later evening probably not super family friendly, but we sat in a more private dining area and were offered a high chair, so we felt comfortable with a quiet baby.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] If she fussed, we likely would have stepped out to preserve the atmosphere - something to keep in mind! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Great spot if you're craving a cozy beer bar.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

[[HIGHLIGHT]]History, charm, ambiance - this place has it all.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We've been here many times and it is a local gem to say the least. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This particular visit was for the German New Years toast! The gorgeous tree, fire pits a-blazing, folks bundled up and enjoying the outdoors, all to bring in 2026 with a festive toast![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The chilled beers and mulled wine were flowing and the restaurant was also buzzing with good eats and warm seats! This crew is always friendly and welcoming.

Loved visiting here! Their lager is one of my favorites -- super crisp and refreshing. The food is good but pretty basic -- more like beer-friendly snacks (sausages, chips, etc.) rather than full meals. The vibe is so cute, especially in the winter! Cozy, inviting, and definitely a great spot for a casual date night. I'll be back for the beer and atmosphere for sure!

I've been to Waldmann twice now and had great experiences both times! Although the indoor seating is somewhat small, we were able to get tables for 3-5 people right away both times. The indoor seating is quaint and showcases its history. The outdoor patio is beautiful and quiet, with large picnic tables and smaller tables. The beer is good and the food is great! We recently got "Amos's Lunch" and added a pretzel. It was a great charcuterie spread. They didn't skimp on the meats and cheeses- it was enough for 5 to share! I am not usually a fish person, but I LOVED the smoked trout that came with it. The staff were super friendly. The one down side is it's mainly street parking, but that won't stop me from coming back!

The second floor, like the rest of the building is so cozy!

If you like beer you have to go here! One of the oldest buildings in St. Paul let alone one of the oldest breweries. These people really know beer. So well crafted, so unique. You might as well be in Germany The food is good too and the ambience is just so unique. A real treasure!!

    Good beer, great food.

Hubby and I were visiting from California and our friends took us there to explore a different cuisine and wow we love it all, my favorite was the wurst platter with the cabbage so good. The beer was very tasty. The place has so much history was constructed in 1857. The Waldmann stay true to their traditions if you are in Minnesota you must try. The service was wonderful, a very polite gentleman explaining every question we had and always with a smile on his face. The ambiance is perfect we were outside, they have a nice patio with cute flowers to look around. The only thing has no parking you need to look for one or paid for parking closer to the restaurant. But it's worth it..

Looking at the picture we knew we had to give it try. What cool comfortable place with lots of history behind the building. The owner served us lunch and provided a history behind the restaurant, the recipes and where they get their food products. Their bread is local and their meat is from Usinger's in Milwaukee, WI. I love that place and their products. Well let's get onto the food. I was brave and had the Smoked Liverwurst. Hadn't had it for 30 years. Since I went fishing with my grandfather. Boy it was awesome and brought back some memories. The owner gave me large slices of bread so I could make a sandwich. The mustard and fresh onions made it! My two colleagues were craving hot dogs, so they went with the Yoerg Sandwich. It's the flagship sandwich. A quartier pound dog with German cheese and a pickle spear. It was huge and tasty to say the least. It was only $9.95. Great price for lunch these days. We also had to share a pretzel that came with cheese and mustard. This has earned a spot on our lunch rotation.

Yet, the Black Forest Inn's menu tickles my taste buds. I love German and Austrian food. Despite those countries' rejection of my origins, my great-grandparents ate the food of Germany and Austria as proud members of the Austrian-Hungary Empire. That might explain my atavistic enjoyment of schnitzel, liver, spaetzle, and dumplings. While the kitchen at the Black Forest Inn isn't going to earn a Michelin Star, I liked my veal liver and Wiener Schnitzel enough to return often to try other delicacies on their menu unavailable at other restaurants around town. The place has its own parking lot on Nicollet, which makes traveling there a breeze. While you might feel more comfortable with the ambiance wearing lederhosen, as I imagined myself dressed in striped pajamas and a little hat, the interior and beer garden meet the needs of the classicists who find joy in that part of The Sound of Music. I'm more partial to Cabaret. The neighborhood wears the scars of social and political confrontation that can be depressing, and who knows when it will recover, but Eat Street is integral to Minneapolis, so try to support the hood. Service was well-meaning, relaxed, and jolly, providing echoes of an Oktoberfest in Munchen. Lots of deep oak woodwork, a beautiful bar with gorgeous stain glass windows at the back of the bar by the register. The lights glistened off of the giant hanging glass pitchers and beer steins. The bartender and waitress that both helped me were dolls. Had great suggestions on the menu, attentive, and talkative. I started with a potato pancake. It was delicious. Served with sour cream and applesauce like God intended. It was 5.50 for 1. Initially I thought that was pricey BUT it was worth it and I'd shell out the $9 for 3 next time. Then I had the sausage sampler. It came with two pieces of warm rye bread (tasted homemade), 3 different sausage links; chicken curry, bratwurst, and polish kielbasa...made in house. Lastly a small scoop of warm German potato salad. It was all good! I'll be back. No ranch used here so no rating.
