I was physically harassed and attacked by the staff. Here's the story: I went there last night with my friends. We arrived at 8. I was there the whole night until about midnight when I went to use the bathroom. A staff member said that I wasn't allowed to use the bathroom and I calmly asked why. He said that it's because they have a right "not to serve everyone." I said that that didn't make any sense, I was a consistent paying customer all night. He then picked me up and carried me out into the parking lot where he threw me onto the asphalt. All this was quite unprompted so I knocked on the door and asked again kindly why I was being removed. Another staff member came and said again that they have the right to remove anyone they want without reason then they both picked me up and threw me to the ground violently. The physical assault was much undeserved and unlawful. Additionally my wrist was very severely sprained in the process. I will not be coming back and I advise anyone who doesn't like getting violently attacked by staff members on a power-trip to be wary of this location. read more

The beer is trash. The only beer I drink is PBR, and when I got a picture it was terrible I actually threw up cause of how bad it tasted. I have went 4-5 times now and it has always been bad every time and my friends agree. The manager said it taste like PBR but it taste like starlight booty cheeks. Fix it!!!! read more

Was served spoiled orange juice and told that's just how it tasted. Employees seem bothered to serve. Pool table by the window is not balanced. But good location by the field and good wings. As a Bronco Alum', in town for Homecoming and Parents weekend, clearly one of the busiest days of the year for all bars and restaurants in Kalamazoo, I want to return to Waldo's Tavern and reminisce on our time at Western Michigan University. To my surprise, this bar has gone to Sh*t. They have not cleaned the carpet since I was there 30 years ago. The establishment was mostly empty, except for the people at the bar, but every table was covered in empty bottles. We could not find a clean place to sit. There were only 2 people working the entire place and no servers. The bar tender and manager seemed more focused on cleaning glasses then trying to serve all the people that were their trying order. They have a bouncer at the door who was incredibly rude and would not allow my wife, that is over 50, to enter the bar without an ID and threatened to call the police if we didn't leave. Seriously!? WTF. Sadly, I will never return to Waldos and I will make sure all my friends know how Waldos was once THE place to be, and now its a rundown, dirty sh*t hole with bad management and horrible staff. Are you looking for a place that is dark and dingy where you are not quite sure what the floors look like or the last time they have been cleaned? Then this is the place for you! This is definitely a college bar and a mainstay in Kalamazoo. Just know you are coming here for the drink specials and not for the atmosphere. And get the wings! The mixed grill wings are the best wings in Kalamazoo. I was there recently on a Friday night and the wings were on special. Opened 1981, Waldo's is a huge multi-story tavern with an outdoor beer garden area. Fun college bar packed with Western Michigan University students. Its a pretty neat campus bar. Expect to experience sticky floors, scratched up tables and mismatch stools. I used to go to this place for their wings atleast once a month and then I stopped going for a while. I went back to this place for trivia which i was very excited about. I was more excited about the food and in the end I was dissapointed. We ordered wings and pulled pork tacos. Wings were too dry. Same was the case with tacos. It needed more sauce and I'm pretty sure it was missing something. Chips it came with was a little stale and salsa was really thick and was missing salt. We were very dissapointed about the food. Staff was very friendly and courtious. So full points there. read more

As my friend Allison said, we loved $6 pitcher night. It was cheap, and you always ran into people you knew. I have lots of fond memories of this place. I went back after graduation, and it just wasn't the same. It really is the people that make this place fun. Hopefully we will go in as group at reunions and it will be like old times. (Maybe we'll split the pitchers among a few people though). The last time I went back was for nostalgic reasons, and without having a pitcher in you, and friends everywhere you look, you can really see how crappy the place was. the place is too hot, the bartender ignores me for other customers that came after me, my orders keep being made wrong, the bathroom always smells like piss, and the place always looks run down. they seem to have zero control of the drunken college kids that frequently come in and cause trouble. the wings are good, but only half of the time as the other half of the time they are either overcooked or are clearly old wings made several days ago. the staff is condescending when you voice that youve been wrong, and it doesnt seem they can even keep a consistent staff. just better off going to a different bar read more

Well even though we're pushing the upper bounds of the age demographic, a cheap pitcher of long islands or any other well drink is sure to get a good time started. I am from a small town, so visiting here seemed like I was back home but in a whole new state. A friend grew up in the area and always wants to stop by the places that he knew when he was in his college years. These places included Waldo's. I've been to my share of "shit hole" bars so this was nothing compared to the local hometown bars. It just reminded me of a classic college bar that doesn't mind if you spill a few drinks here and there. The drinks were CHEAP, but then again I'm from Chicago so anything under $5 for anything is cheap. The food was why we went there, and I'd have to say that the menu was small but did good for a college/sports bar. The pizzas were good, the wings were awesome and the fried pickles... YUMMMM. It was a good way to remind myself why I moved away from home/college in the first place but was a good time for a night away from the big city. read more

We came here as a large group of ~40 people for our team dinner on a Friday night. They had us set up in the separate room on the deck, which worked out perfectly. Despite it snowing and being super cold outside, we stayed nice and toasty warm. We had full access to the menu, which was perfect as sometimes set menus blow. I ordered the cream of tomato soup and the steak wrap with bleu cheese. Our drinks and food arrived promptly with the exception of a few that were missed or presented incorrectly. The tomato soup is definitely something that I would recommend and order over and over again. It's nice and creamy and had tons of chunks of tomatoes. Veeeery good! My steak wrap wasn't bad. Everything was fresh and the steak was cooked to a medium. It was a bit sloppy with the dressing but overall, everything tasted good. I was quite jealous of the beef dips and burritos as those looked to be delicious! While overall we had a good visit and service was pleasant, my main issue was with other patrons. We clearly had the entire room booked out, and yet the entire time had people come in to the room to look for seats. At one point a man came in and took a phone call for about 10 minutes in the corner of our room. Literally had his nose pressed up to the wall and it looked like he was peeing. Not ideal. read more

Waldo's was the standby in college. It has a little older vibe downstairs in the pilsen club, complete with a round bar and a fireplace. They have any beer you could imagine down there and a cool club called the "Passport" where they track what you have tried and at the end you get a tshirt and your name on a plaque. Upstairs is a typical college bar with darts, pool tables and awesome bartenders. Thursdays is the only busy night where they run a cheap special on mixed drink PITCHERS. read more

Upstairs it's everything you expect out of a college bar -- sticky, loud, disgusting bathrooms, people drinking straight from the pitcher. I'm 43, but when I was 23 and hanging out with a big group of friends -- this was just the ticket. And yet, there's this little oasis downstairs, an extremely dimly lit lodge-like setting with its own small bar and a fantastic beer selection. We've enjoyed stopping here on the pub-crawl for Kalamazoo Beer Week and find it a charming spot, especially if you can grab seating near the fireplace. This place, top to bottom, is one of the biggest disappoinments of dive bars I have ever walked in to! I get I am 40 and not the target demographic but just wasn't in the mood for one of K'zoo's vaunted micro-breweries. I went there for the first time and there was a small like 15-20 people waiting some in the lobby area and some in the front of the building. The manager/owner came out and made everyone leave the lobby area (it was raining out). He then proceeded to tell people to just leave, because he wasn't letting anyone in anytime soon. It was $6 pitcher night so I got a pitcher with the mixer being coke, the bartender then told me that all the pop is flat because they had no carbonation.I was very displeased with the hospitality and the way the owner was handling a busy night. read more
