It's a pretty peaceful college bar next to a really nice coffee shop. Presentation - 10/10 Taste & Flavor - 10/10 When getting food here you can get a good variety of spicy and savory especially when it comes to their burgers their drinks are made with much care. Nothing is too overpowering Portion Size - 10/10 I have a very small stomach so things tend to fill me up regardless however my husband is an endless pit and the burger seemed to fill him up for the time being. Value for your money? I would say you get a good value and a full meal for the price you're going to pay You get good service especially on a Sunday when there's only a very few people in there and you're just trying to relax. ‍ Service - 10/10 The service in overall 10 out of 10 The bartender was extremely friendly kept a decent conversation going & greeted us when we entered, most of the staff is college students so you know they're working hard when it comes to both school and being servers. Service wasn't the best. The server took forever to grab our order because he was so busy talking to the other workers behind the bar. I added our total up and it should've been 42.98 based off of their menu prices but they add a 4% operating surcharge. Insane in my opinion. Lost our business for sure. Best burger I had in a while. Reason is that size is big, they don't skim on ingredients. Burger is not supposed to be tiny especially from a tavern. My burger has layers of cheese and meat and sauce. Mouth full of goodness. Also my "back forty" burger is only $13. Pretty good deal in 2024. Sides are extra though Sides are not so much, just taste like they are from the freezer and straight into the fryer. Burger is the main character anyway. Drinks are weak, you can probably down a couple mix drinks and still blow below limit. With that being said, this is still a better place to eat and watch a game than BWW. read more

Solid bar on campus at WMU... This place wasn't here back when I spent more time on campus, but it's a nice addition the bar scene. It's big, lots of TVs, they have food and the staff seems like they do a good job. read more

Showed up on a Sunday around 8pm, the place was not busy. We came in, made eye contact with two bartenders, stood for another minute then asked if we ordered at the bar or sat down, and we were told to find any seat and a server would be with us shortly. Five minutes later we had a server. The beer was cold, and the lemon "shot" was tasty although honestly quite weak. We got the fried spicy cheese curds to start, and they were tasty. We then ordered a burger with sauteed onions and mushrooms. The service was friendly, even if slow at first, but the thing that was NOT GOOD was the burger itself. The beef tasted like it had been purchased at GFS -- poor quality, poor texture, and bland taste -- neither of us were interested in finishing it. The fries were good though. read more

We've been to the Old Goat several times. It never disappoints! When my wife and I are craving a burger...this is the place! It's close to Western Michigan University so you can call it a campus bar but the food is fantastic. If you go early evening you avoid the "college rush". Service is always good! They have outdoor seating if the weather is cooperative. They have a lot of beer on tap and an extensive drink menu. If it gets crowded it can get a bit noisy. This is a new found favorite place in Kalamozoo! It is a sports bar but the food is absolutely fantastic and the staff are friendly and helpful. We have gone for dinner a few times and the atmosphere is aways clean and friendly. They are open late, and advertise great daily specials! (Can you say $3 Bloody Mary's and Mimosas for brunch!) This is right by Western Michigan University, and has the college bar vibe. They were very welcoming to us, and we have been out of college for many many years. In the last week I've had two people recommend going here, which I had never had happen - or even heard of this place before. That is the kind of thing that never happens. We always have great food and great drinks here. My margarita came in a small glass and it had sugar instead of salt and it was so sticky it was gross. The service was off today I ordered a margarita on the rocks and the server asked if I mind that it wasn't frozen? my friend explained to him that "on the rocks means not frozen" he spilled the margarita on the table (probably because the glass was too sticky) and didn't come back to clean that up, I cleaned it with my tiny napkins-coaster which was then destroyed, so I had nothing to clean my hands. Wanted a bite to eat after getting back from skiing on a Wednesday. Bouncer started yelling at us for entering through the back door. Explained to him that there's 6 inches of snow, sidewalks are not cleared and that my friend has a sprained knee. Bandage was clearly visible. He said it didn't matter. I told him to go clean the sidewalks and I'd come in from the front. Then he proceeds to try to fight me. I ask for the manager and this guy is still being rude, snatches my ID from my hand. I spoke to the manager and let it go because we were just looking for food and this was the only spot open. This manager was also rude and did not apologize for his bouncer's rude behavior. Clearly the bouncer kid was drunk. Asked the staff for food recs and they said, I don't eat here. Don't go here if you're not in college and living on mommy and daddy's dime. It was like entering an alternate world where children who can legally drink were pretending to be adults, completely unaware of the realities that await them after they graduate or drop out. Since it's WMU and it was a Wednesday night, my money is on these kids being drop outs. read more

We went in and told we can seat ourselves. Found a table and sat down. It wasn't that busy and the service was good and quick! I can't remember our waitress name, but she was very friendly and attentive. Our drinks came out quick and did our food. I ordered fried pickles as an appetizer because my son wanted some (they were actually not that bad). We definitely could not eat all of them! For our meals my son ordered a Bleu Cheese Buffalo Chicken Salad (not pictured, but it was a huge serving) and I ordered a Bleu Cheese Burger. When we got our meals I thought my burger was going to be one patty, but it was three! it was hard for me to bite the whole burger....I had to smash it down some to make it thinner. My son enjoyed his salad; had enough meat/salad ratio and the chicken had enough Buffalo sauce on it. The food was great & flavorful, but definitely could not eat it all! We needed to go boxes. The restaurant is more of a bar and has an open layout; they also have a little patio area to sit outside if you choose and bar seating if you want to sit there as well. This is near WMU Campus, so there is a college student vibe to the place, plus I believe it's more of a club at night time (they had security at the door when we left). One of the better burgers I've had in the Kalamazoo area. Ordered the Spicy Goat Burger and the Fried Pickle Burger. Both of which were excellent. Also ordered the Spicy Cheese Curds as an appetizer, and those did not disappoint. Great atmosphere, wonderful service, and two enormous portion sizes all for an extremely reasonable price. For well respected and established food critic like myself this establishment did not meet my standards. As an old timer, there were too many women dancing professionally provocatively on the dance floor by me. If my wife, a 42 years found out I was out there spending my time there, she'd have me living out back with the dog. While I thought the goat punch was reasonable in price and taste, this establishment seem to have too young of a crowd for someone like me. While I will still attend this place Thursday night, that shall be my last time there. They just opened right off the WMU campus. It's great to have a new place with great food and a nice decor. No dive bar! The food on my first time in was fantastic. I had the "Moo-Cluck-Oink". A burger with two patties with buffalo chicken boneless wings in the middle. The side of seasoned fries was great too. The service was great too. Plus the manager even added the bonus of a special discount for WMU faculty and staff. So why only four stars. On my second trip I and a friend were having a light snack talking over a school project. We split an order of fries and chicken strips. The fries were great again but the chicken strips were fast food joint worthy. And this time the service was just average. So I chalk up round two to training of new staff. So I highly recommend you give it a try. The Old Goat is easily the best restaurant on campus. Went in for round three yesterday. I had the spicy goat burger that has jalapeño peppers and peppered goat cheese and it was great. Friend had the breakfast burger with egg on it and said it was the best burger he ever had. I will have to try that one next time. So the verdict is Best Burger in town, but skip the chicken fingers. read more

So this is my second or third review for Old Goat, I can't really remember which. I'm writing just writing this one to add information to my previous one (so I'm not changing the rating). I ordered a special (I think it was the Friday special although I'm unsure...): Chicken tenders and fries for four dollars. While it was a killer deal, I still feel that Old Goat's specialty is burgers. There was just nothing special about the tenders. They were well cooked, but had a very thin dry coating. Nothing to write home about. The seasoned fries on the other hand are always a good choice. I always spring for them at Old Goat. Give them a shot if you haven't. And keep ordering burgers. The number 1 place to get a burger in kalamazoo, just off campus, great beer selection, but the reason you come here is the burgers. So this is the best burger and brew place that I've found so far in Kzoo. Lots of local beers and national brands on tap. Lots of sports on lots of TVs. Lots of burgers to choose from. Doesn't get better for me. I was there with some work friends last week to watch a MLB playoff game and had a double burger with cheese curds in between and beer cheese over top.
