Going to eye therapy at Walesby vision center was absolutely life changing. I've never yelped anything before and I just created this account. I truly felt an obligation to the thousands of high school students who are confused, frustrated and not understanding why they can't excel at school. Walesby vision center has made me the man I am today. When I first walked in I was a struggling student at Jesuit High School. I barley was able to stay at the school because my grades were so low. No matter how hard I tried to study or work I just couldn't. I was taking adhd medicines to try and cope with my undiagnosed eye problems. This left me depressed, lost in a world that I felt that I generally didn't belong in. I felt like my school was too hard or I'm not smart enough. Anyone dealing with these thoughts I beg you to please come in and get your eyes checked out. I have 20/20 vision so when I first heard of the idea I thought another waste of time. I had gone to Johns Hopkins medical school to meet with a specialist on why I couldn't perform in school. He had no idea and just said more adhd which only made me sadder and work harder with no results. After getting my eyes checked in a quick 15 minutes Walesby vision center had diagnosed me with a muscle disorder in my eyes. It sounds complicated because it is, I explain what I have all the time and even I have trouble explaining it. But this problem in my eyes made it nearly impossible for my eyes to focus while I read. So as I read I would get tired and not learn anything because my eyes were so distracted. I embarked on therapy from around September of my junior year until May when school got out. It takes dedication to come 3 times a week. It may seem like a waste of time at one point or even just too great of a burden. Towards the end of my session these doubts were in my head. Would I really make that much of an improvement? Would I finally have normal eyes or was I forever cursed? I can promise you everything is worth it times a million. I have returned to eye therapy my senior year now to finish off what I started. It has been the most rewarding thing in my life ever. I'm a new man with new eyes. My confidence has gone up tremendously. I don't feel normal, I feel smarter then the average person now. My tests scores and gpa drastically changed. I went from failing out to having scholarships from top Jesuit schools like Marquette, Loyola Chicago and St. Louis. These colleges saw how hard I worked to get to where I was and how I overcame such a disability. This wowed every admission office I ever went to. Now that I've talked about myself enough I have to talk about the amazing people that work at Walesby vision center. Since I came in day one they could not have been more sincere, caring and nice people. Every single person from the front office to the assistants to the doctors cares and what to see you succeed more then I've ever seen before. There is a general passion for helping the disabled at Walesby vision center that I've never seen at any doctors office. I couldn't be happier with my time at Walesby vision center I'm truly humbled and blessed to have been placed in such an amazing environment with amazing hardworking people. Dr. Nicholas Thomas was hands down the best eye doctor we could have found for our son Gabriel. He worked so hard with him and made our entire experience with vision therapy an unbelievable one. Our son will always wear glasses, but he now is able to see things he couldn't see before. Our son did not show any of the typical signs of having vision problems. And by the time we found out he was having issues I was told by 5 other doctors that nothing could be done and eventually he would lose sight completely in his right eye. Dr. Thomas was able to work with Gabriel through vision therapy and Gabriel can now has 20/20 vision with his glasses on, and is able to use both of his eyes together and before he was only using one eye. Our insurance did not cover any of this process although most insurances to cover some or all of it. However, for our family it was worth all of the sacrifices we needed to make in order to pay for the therapy. Gabriel can see, and no longer has the issues he used to have. Dr. Thomas and staff were very helpful, professional and caring. I truly appreciate all they did for our family. read more

Where do i begin? Can I give negative stars?? Front desk Katelyn rude, incompetent. Dr Thomas is down right the rudest most dry and uncaring individual. Took my child for an exam, paid a fortune only to be told her pay another 400 bucks to do more exam, asked why "we'll explain with further testing" ok so you can't tell me anything about why you want 400 dollars worth of testing?? Worst of all is the scary clown who sells glasses, I have never heard someone talk on such a trashy unprofessional manner. All I can say is run!!! Take your child over to bright eyes with Dr. Bonilla-Warford, he is a sweet man with a caring sweet natured staff with a clean officer. Dr Bonilla-Warford took his time with us explained everything in DETAIL and why testing may be needed. No scary clowns or rude Drs with dry personality. Oh Dr Bonilla-Warford doesn't cost and arm and a leg either. Hes not trying to break your pockets or sacrifice your first born in order to pay. Anyone is better than Dr. Thomas. My 5th grader struggled in school for years, never making the gains of his peers. He is a smart kid but reading just never "clicked." We spent many nights in tears with him telling me he was hot and his head hurt after just a couple of pages of reading. He would often fall asleep shortly after reading as well. The school never could find out what was "wrong." He was just labeled as a lazy kid with behavioral outbursts. Finally after 4 years, someone suggested I consider getting him a binocular vision test and my wish was answered! Dr. Walesby identified several vision disorders which are often overlooked by schools in screenings and not caught in sight eye tests. I am happy to say I have my old kid back. After 7 months of vision therapy, his symptoms are gone, he is passing standardized testing and he is more confident in his reading each and every day. FANTASTIC. Seriously, who gets excited or even pleased by the eye doctor? It ain't common. But, after digging through local, homegrown eye doctors, Walesby stuck out to me. I called to make an appointment for an eye exam, and Carla--Walesby's wonderful Receptionist/Optical Assistant--greeted me with kindness and genuine interest. My barometer for determining if a doctor is worth pursuing is based on initial interactions with their staff, and Carla shocked me with her down-to-earth tone and quick, helpful correspondence both over phone and via email. Then, the actual eye exam with Dr. Thomas was...dare I say...easy and a bit fun? No grueling wait times, no condescension, no sales pitches. Just a quick and helpful exam. Finding a really good doctor can be like finding a needle in a haystack, but rest assured that Dr. Thomas, Carla and the rest of the Walesby Vision Center staff are exceptional. I have gone to Dr. Walesby for a number of years after my son-in-law suggested I try him as my eye doctor. I have been pleased every time! Their recommendation for special "Office Glasses" which allow me to read and work on a computer had me try a pair several years ago. I love them! Not only can I read without difficulty but I can also see the computer screen. The next big step was prescription sunglasses! What a joy!! I can see everything and yet my eyes are protected. This year it was a pair of progressive lenses... and they are also wonderful No problem getting used to them after years with the office glasses and a year with the sunglasses. Dr. Nick and Dr. Walesby are amazing. I have seen personally what these doctors can do for children with vision and learning disabilities. I can't begin to put in this small review how truly thankful I am to them for helping my daughter and my grandson to overcome vision issues and see both of them excel to the top of their classes. Dr. Walesby has been my eye doctor since I was a kid and even as an adult I have zero intentions of switching from his care. He and Dr. Nick are very thorough and knowledgeable about all things related to the eye. Dr. Walesby takes the time to explain any confusion and breaks it down to be easily understood. My daughter went thru eye therapy with Dr. Walesby for 3 years when she was younger. Dr. Walesby really liked Sarah and told her when she turned 18 he wanted her to come and work for her. 3 weeks ago she was hired and Sarah was really excited about her new career opportunity. On Wednesday Sarah told the office manager that she was pregnant and the next day she was FIRED. So if you want to do business with a Doctor that discriminates against pregnant women then the Walesby Vision Center is the place to go. read more

We love Dr. Walesby and his team. We discovered at the age of 6 that our son had dyslexia as well two other vision disorders. Learning to read was a huge challenge to say the least. Through combinations of vision therapies the Walesby team not only improved his vision effectiveness, but gave him the coping tools he needed to enable him to excel.
