My doctor put in my prescription at 8:00 AM today and went in after class at 12:15 and they said it still wasn't ready and Id have to wait another ten minutes. I had to get lunch with my mom so I asked if I could pick it up later and she said yes. I just came back at 1:45 to see a sign that says they closed until 2:45... I drove from the other side of town and don't have time to wait because I have a paper due tomorrow. Why wouldn't the pharmacist tell me they were going to be closed and why doesn't it say anything about them being closed during lunch hours on the website? I know they're busy but your a pharmacy next to a college and need to show some amount of respect and effort for your student majority customers . Very disappointed and am planning on changing to CVS after I finally get to pick it up. All that business the students give to them and they can't even get their hours right on their website... thanks for stressing me out and ruining my day. read more

There is always a long line, as it does have ease and proximity to the campus, but the lines doe go by pretty quickly. Prices are whatever - it isn't cheaper than other places in the area, but again convenience. Service is less to be desired: - I've asked workers for directions only to be vaguely pointed in a general direction until I was able to find it myself - Ordered online for photos to be picked up at a certain time. I went there to be told that the printer was broken. When I asked when I could pick up my order, I was told, "there are other orders in front of you so I don't know" read more

Slow slow checkout which never seems to get fixed. Just today I was waiting and one of the 3 cashiers decided to leave the cashier station and start stocking. As soon as she left there were 10-11 people back in line. Average wait is 5 minutes or more to check out. Very unpleasant and frustrating. The workers in general are nice, though. read more

The place deserves 1 star for convenience, but everything else about this place is terrible. Everything is overpriced and most of the items on sale on their weekly ad doesn't get marked down here. Service is terrible, they could care less about you. A lot of items ring up higher than what their tag says (it's happened to me multiple times) and when you inquire about it, the cashier just looks at you like you're the criminal trying to rip them off. read more

Ugh. Yes, that's the first line of my review. And that about sums up every experience I've had at Walgreens, with a few exceptional bits. Always pretty crowded with a long line (at least the wait is only around 5 minutes, though), this branch really needs to learn the importance of widening aisles - you're constantly bumping elbows if you're in midday, when the busy hours are. I can't help but feel like the staff is always breathing down my neck when I'm here - one time I was browsing lipstick (yeah, I know, but I can't afford MAC right now) and peeling back one of those removable/resealable ingredients labels to check for an allergen I'm sensitive to. The lady restocking was a total b**** to me, told me I was "ruining" the stock and pulled a ravaged product a customer had left on the shelf as evidence of my tirade on her lipgloss display. She hassled me several times until I finally went to seek the manager. Food is surprisingly cheaper (usually) at Sam's next door, which I love and frequent often. Bottom line: Come here for drugstore bits and tacky holiday junk, but stay away if you're looking for school supplies (expensive) or snacks (expensive and pretty mediocre selection). read more

I personally think this store is very conveniently located. This is great for catching a late night DVD or other miscellaneous consumables. This store has a RedBox DVD juke box. Loading and unloading in front of the store is very easy. Pharmaceutical access seemed convenient so you should have no worries on campus if you forget something. Otherwise, parking is not recommended. read more

Don't shop here. This store is constantly overloaded with CAL students. Expect long lines and the store has an odd layout. Not to mention the staff doesn't know how to operate the registers. I think I'll stick with the Adeline and Ashby stores instead. read more

Can you say incompetence? Walgreens has most things you would need to pick up for everyday needs. However, their pharmacy department is a complete joke. I've been trying to acquire my prescription that I need to take daily and it's been everything but easy to do so. They have not given me my prescription for 2 days because they don't have my medicine in stock. Then, they buy me a 1/12 of my prescription to hold me for a couple days, but it wasn't enough to get me through tomorrow. They say if I want to get my prescription I need to go to another pharmacy in downtown Berkeley, which I don't have time for. Then I show up today and they only have half of my total prescription. To put it simply, I wish I could transfer somewhere else. read more

Busy students' "grocery" store. You won't find the variety of vegetables and fruits found at Berkeley Bowel here, but if you are too busy to go grocery shopping during the week (or even the weekend!), you will find enough here to get by. One item that's surprisingly cheap (unless it's changed since last I've bought it) here is eggs. They have Berkeley Farm eggs every now and then (along with deli stuff), and when they do, it's surprisingly cheap (last time I bought it, $2 for a dozen---this is comparable to the price at Berkeley Bowl, cheaper than at Andronico's, and, well, it's been too long since I've been to Safeway). The only problem, of course, is that they don't have this stocked too often. Anyways, I'm kinda lazy when it comes to cooking at home, so every now and then, I pick up a bottle of soda and California Pizza Kitchen pizza (they only seem to carry BBQ chicken, unfortunately) on the way home. read more

It's really a shame that there is no alternative in the neighborhood to getting your drugs and cough medicine from this Walgreens. This company is one of the largest drug retailers in the country. I really don't thing they need more of our money. Plus, they don't treat their workers very well. A lot of the reviewers here have complained about the workers at this particular location. But honestly, I wouldn't be too friendly either if I was working for Walgreens Inc. for less than $10 an hour and was forced to work on holidays (even Christmas!). Unfortunately, there aren't many other options in the neighborhood. There's no excuse to buy food here, since you can find the same or better products next-door at the locally owned Sam's market, but for drugs, you're pretty much stuck. Elephant is now defunct (and they were too expensive for the average consumer anyway) and longs is currently being bought up by CVS, an even larger mega-company. This leaves, let's see, this walgreens, the one on shattuck, and oh yeah, the OTHER walgreens on shattuck. Yes, this store is small and crowded and the lines are long and I understand all the negative reviews. But I want to stress that the lead pharmacist is a saint. No matter how busy he is, he focuses on you and speaks with care. I have the impression he loves his job and he loves caring for people. So he created all the stars above. Also, if you are in a desperate hurry, you can skip the long line in front and buy your things at the pharmacy counter. read more

Unfortunately, this is the closest Walgreens to Berkeley campus, so it essentially has a monopoly for basic items needed by students who don't have cars. The organization and service in this store is terrible. I asked one of the women who works here if they carried something, and she brought me to a part of the store to show me that they had it--even though it was entirely the wrong product. I then asked her again if they had what I wanted, and she became angry at me, even though it was clearly her fault in the first place for mishearing me. Additionally, the products sold here are of the lowest quality, and everything is so messy and somewhat dirty in this store. The lines are also a mess. The line at the main cash registers is always impossibly long, and the people who work at the registers are all pretty slow and apathetic to the slow-moving lines. The other line in the front of the store isn't even supposed to technically be a place to pay, but because the lines in the front are so ridiculous, they've opened it up as well. But in any case, the service is abysmal. If you have a car, I suggest taking your money elsewhere or walk to the CVS on Shattuck. read more

This is the worst establishment in existence. Unfortunately, it has a ridiculously convenient location, and the next closest drugstore is the CVS on Shattuck, which is about 5 blocks away, in the opposite direction from the residence halls and frat row. This means that we're stuck with this horrible, horrible Walgreens, which has given me nothing but grief since I started school here. It doesn't have anything you need unless you intend to live solely on ramen, condoms, and cheap eyeliner (although to be fair, that probably takes up the bulk of their regular clientele's needs), so if you want anything even slightly more complex than that (like matches, or staples, or not-horrible shampoo), you're probably out of luck. And everything that IS there is marked up more than you would find even at another Walgreens, which is hugely aggravating if you're living on the college student budget (they also don't do the weekly sales that most Walgreens franchises do. Don't think we don't notice). The line, regardless of the time of day, is almost always at least a five-minute wait, and in the evening it usually stretches out to at least ten. For some reason, there are about 8 fully working registers, which is bizarre to me because I've never seen more than 3 of them being worked at the same time. Most of the employees are at best listless and unhelpful and at worst blatantly incompetent and cranky. Also, whenever they use carts or trolleys to restock, when they finish, they just leave them lying around the store. The only thing that I regularly buy here is 12-packs of Diet Coke, and literally every single time that I have ever come in to purchase this, there's a big fat trolley blocking my way, and half the time I can't even move it because there's ANOTHER trolley blocking THAT one. In short, the only thing that I hate more than this Walgreens is the fact that due to their ludicrously efficient location selection, I'm probably going to continue to go to this Walgreens. read more

This location is probably the worst Walgreens I've ever gone to. It's right off campus so they get a lot of business from UCB students and faculty, but they never have enough employees for checkout, even though there are plenty of open unstaffed registers. I go there a lot for milk and groceries and 50% of the time I walk down there, the milk is out of stock. This is a problem with a lot of items at this location. Someone in management needs to get replaced. It's ridiculous to sit in line for so long when it's obvious that this place will always be busy from all the students. The register operators say, "I see three" when there is more than three people in line and someone is supposed to come out and assist with checkout. Pretty soon I'm going to start getting on the intercom system and saying, "I see three" as soon as I enter the store just so I can check out by the time I get my groceries from the back. Bah. Ridiculous. I hope someone from the company reads these posts. Still, I'm glad that the Walgreens is there because I'm tired of all this garbage I hear about people in Berkeley not wanting large store chains in Berkeley. One of the worst factors of this city is that there are few large chains, and instead we have these lousy mom-and-pops places that sell useless overpriced junk. Took me twenty minutes to buy a gallon of milk because there was only one cashier, yet at least five other employees within my view in the line just stocking shelves and ignoring the fact that there was a line. I called three places for price of a medication I need to use and is not covered by my insurance. This place was even more expensive than CVS. Far more expensive than Target. I still went there because of convenience to my house. The line was so long and the clerk so confused and slow. I could have walked a mile to CVS and it would have been faster. Finally, I did just that. I'm not saying that CVS is great, but these folks need to realize that some people have a life and waiting in a crammed little pharmacy in line just to put up with inexperienced slow clerks is not the way we like to spend our weekends. read more
