The selection is very nice, but...I hate this location. The security guards make me so uncomfortable. I even tried to break the ice by smiling and asking how they are and they just stare at me and say nothing. Yesterday they caused a scene from accusing this poor guy of stealing when he clearly had a receipt. I go to the CVS now down the street for my pharmacy needs. My mom was in town for a visit and wanted to check out what Walgreens had done to her once upon a time favorite bookstore. No sooner had we stepped through the doors than we were surreptitiously followed by a security person. My mom realized right away and felt uncomfortable. This place is way over rated! It's huge yes! But huge for no good reason. There's not a big variety of items. There's more make up and fruit than anything else. This review is specifically for the sushi. I love their sushi at this Walgreens. I know what you are thinking gross, but NO, it is good. It is not fancy authentic sushi by any stretch of the imagination, but knowing that and setting you expectations accordingly you will be pleasantly surprised. The sushi chefs roll it in the window. The "crunch" on any of the crunch rolls is French's fried onions. One roll with crab is about $8 and keeps me full after lunch. Everything is worth trying at least once right? read more

Walgreens will not let you use the store card to receive the sale price on items. Other large pharmacy chains will. I would recommend that if you are purchasing a good amount of merchandise, it would be worth it to go to other pharmacies if you don't have a membership to Walgreens. I don't know about everybody else, but I am tired of having to belong to all these little memberships, and receiving mail from pharmacies such as Walgreens and any other company that requires I give them my information. Just how many membership cards can I fit on my key ring? I don't want to find out. And what's the dealllll...... with those receipts? I mean these pharmacies are printing out receipts that are sometimes 3 feet long. This is absurd. I mean I can't leave the receipt there hanging, because I'll feel like a jerk, but I also feel like a jerk stuffing 3 feet of recipe into my pocket. After I leave the store, I want to throw the massive coupon receipt away, but it's so big, that I feel like some hug litterbug if I put it in the trash. So I search for a recycling bin, but to no avail. So here I am with pockets of receipts and no discounts, like a jerk. This is a new pharmacy to the area. Walgreens replaced an old bookstore near the State Street T stop and the Old South Meeting House. The location is nice and the store is large for the location. However, I noticed when shopping that many items indicate that there is a sale price. There is no indication on these items that you need a store card to purchase them at the given sale price. I purchase some cold medicine that was on sale and headed to the check-out counter, where you will find a security guard by the door. This Walgreens appears to be in a high crime area and they require a security guard at the front door to tackle shoplifters, I'm guessing. Anyway, I was checking out and noticed that the item rang in at a higher price. I mentioned that the item was on sale to the cashier, and I was instructed that I needed a store card to purchase the item at the sale price. I advised her that I saw no indication of that. She replied that the store card was free to enroll and suggested I register. read more

Probably the nicest convenience store I've ever been in! They have all the usual items, like snacks, fruit, candy, drinks, as well as a frozen yogurt station, sushi bar, bakery, and an entire section dedicated to beauty brands. I highly recommend the massive milk chocolate cookie at the bakery! The white chocolate cashew cookie was pretty delicious too. Considering many spots to satisfy a dessert craving close in Boston at 9 pm (Orange Leef, Sweets across the street), this is a great alternative. read more

This is a fantastic all in one store. 1. Convenient location right on Washington St by Downtown Crossing 2. Floor plan - open lay out that doesn't feel cramped even during busy times. This is because of the high ceilings from the old bookstore that once occupied the space 3. Selection - yes they have your convenience and drug store staples. But the juice and smoothie bar is great. Real fresh vegetables and fresh fruits the are pressed right before you into healthy juices. There aren't many places like this in the financial district. They also sell alcohol, sushi, frozen yogurt, extensive cosmetics, and of course your standard walgreens items. This is a great place, definitely worth trying a large juice for just $5. read more

Love this place. Since Summer 2013 (best summer lol) I restock the T-Shirt aisle with my sad. That was fun and earned me money. Anyway, they sell sandwiches, froyo, smoothies, sushi and more in addition to all the regular stuff. In Massachusetts, it's illegal for a non-dedicated store to sell alcohol-- unless they have a permit. Something this Walgreen's has. Even though I'm not old enough to drink, and I have no intention for when I am old enough, but this is a good thing for a lot of people. Nice store. read more

I go here A LOT! They have like everything under the sun. Quite impressive! Their makeup/ beauty session is ridiculously cool. They have so many nice brands that you can't find in any other drugstore. If you're familiar with the selection that NYC's Duane Reeds carry in their bigger stores, it's a close comparison. All the makeup skin care workers are so helpful and friendly. I have gone in multiple times to just peruse and sample and they couldn't be more gracious i.e. they are there if you need them but not hovering over you. I like the pharmacy staff too. Very professional and friendly. The smoothie/ juice bar workers are hit or miss. There is one girl who is so sunny and friendly that you can't help but smile and be in a good mood after she rings you up. There's another girl who works her butt off and will help get you in and out quick. The other workers are a tad lazy or disgruntled. Especially a girl who works in the front registers. I asked about a pack of gum and she couldn't care less to help. The booze section upstairs has nice friendly help too. There's a guy who will pick out the right bottle of wine for you if you need help deciding.All in all I think 80% of the people that work there make it a better than expected experience. The security guards are a little aggressive and annoying. They follow you around the store which is a little unnerving but I think they do it to everyone and I can understand why as they get some characters from downtown stumbling into their store trying to probably lift this and that. If you're in the area and needing a drugstore with more bells and whistles than you know what to do with, go here. It is way more fun than the CVS next-door and often is a tad cheaper than them too. read more

I wish I could give this Walgreens more than 5 stars. I am addicted. It has everything I need or want. I have purchased alcohol here, decent selection of liquor wine and beer. I have purchased make up, beauty products and other feminine and hygiene products. This Walgreens is set apart from the rest by the food and snack options. There is a slurpy machine, froyo (unlimited toppiings), sushi, a bakery, fresh fruit sandwhich/salad options(although these are a tad overpriced). Do yourself a favor and do not get anything filled at this Walgreens. They are open Monday-Friday 9-7 and go on a meal break from 1:30-2. If you are a normal working person, leaves very little time to pick up a prescription. Not only that, sometimes they're just closed all day when they are supposed to be open. So definitely don't fill any important prescriptions here. The other day I needed a preauthorization so I called the pharmacy and told them exactly what my doctor said..."please give me the phone number for the preauthorization so I can give it to my dr." After asking if I was the doctor, they proceeded to tell me that's not how it worked and it needed to be faxed. I don't know how it works! I'm only telling you what my dr told me to tell you. My doctor ended up having to call them and she spent so long trying to get them to do whatever it is that she wanted that she charged me for a visit. Now I have to pay because they wouldn't listen and don't know that they are doing. They probably don't know what to do for a preauthorization because they are never there. read more

The store has a huge selection, convenient location, and great hours, but shopping here is a hellish experience. Pros: Open all night, big selection Cons: long lines, stupid rewards card, annoying ads So, the pluses first -- this store has dog supplies that I can't find anywhere else nearby (the housetraining pads.) Their freshly squeezed OJ is also pretty good. Also, the hours and location are very convenient. Shopping in this store is a horrible experience, though. First, they really push the rewards card on you. If anything's on sale, you must show your rewards card to get the discount. CVS has stopped doing this and just lets you use a "courtesy card" if you don't have your own. If you don't have a card, then the cashier pushes you to get one. Second, the lines are really long, despite having multiple registers. Checkout in this store takes forever. First, they go through the rewards card crap (and just hope that the person in front of you doesn't want to sign up for one.) Then, some items that are on sale require a coupon, not a rewards card, so you have to wait while the cashier finds the coupon. Finally you get to pay for your stuff and they hand you a foot long receipt with extra ads/coupons on it, and sometimes they print out more ads/coupons based on your buying patterns as tracked by your privacy-invading rewards card. Only after that do they give you your change and you get to leave. Also, they do NOT have self-checkout lines. Some other reviewer said they do. I would much prefer a self-checkout line to the current system. Third, the "Walgreens Radio" that plays in the store is really obnoxious. The muzak isn't the problem, it's the Walgreens ads that play in between songs. The ads are so loud that once I had to pause my conversation with the pharmacist until the ad was over because I couldn't hear her. Also, they use the speakers outside the store to blast ads in the courtyard. It's bad enough to listen to ads when you're shopping there, but subjecting people who are just walking by to them is going too far. Also, and really a minor point compared to the other stuff -- why do they hide some of the most useful items? All the kitchen and cleaning supplies are in a small room in the corner, while useless crap, like cheap children's toys, is easy to find. Overall, the store just feels like its trying too hard to create a "Walgreens Experience" instead of just letting you go in, find the stuff you need, and get out. I hope they mellow out with age, but I'm not counting on it. read more

This place used to be Borders Books until a few weeks ago. I came in here last week because Walgreen's web site said they stock refills of PEZ candy. They were right - but I also discovered that this is probably THE best drug store in the city of Boston. HUGE, and because of its size you'll probably find whatever you're lloking for. Not reliable at all for Passport Photos. The website promote they have a "photo lab" but in reality they put you in the middle of the pharmacy to pose for a low quality camera photo. Totally unprofessional, the cut was wrong and the personnel were not nice neither they account for their lack of good service. Had to go find another place. read more

The amount of security guards in this Walgreen is like a prison. They keep walking the isles to make sure you know they are there. I supposed they are just doing their job. There must be a lot of thefts at this location with all the homeless people. It does not make me want to go back to this place. The CVS next door has no visible security guards to watch me like a hawk. I guess I will go to that one instead. read more

I had been here numerous times in the past and I have to say I never really have a good customer service. Occasionally when I come here in the past, the front cashiers seem to be gossiping when it is less busy. I am not sure it is just the timing I come. I can understand you are standing not a lot of people in line, you talk to one another but if one of you is ringing a customer maybe you should continue your conversation another time. With that being said, the store is big but like other reviewers mentioned they got the security person that seem to have suspicious look when the customer walk into the store. I am here to buy thing. Could have more friendly vibe. However, the team manager at the store John was helpful when I was trying to look for a product. He even look up online for me and said if it is not the right item I can return it. The fact that I never met anyone that nice in this store in general I have to give him 5 plus stars for sure. Why only 2 stars? The cashier name "C" that rang me up could care less the price is higher than the sticker price show on the shelf... the product was near the cashier register and she doesn't want to move from register to verify the price. I am not even sure why the store bother putting a flyer by the front door stating, let their staff know if the price is not ringing up right. Their staff at this store clearly could careless from what I experienced. I never see that kind of experience at the CVS. She saw the price I mentioned was right and the same products I am trying to buy line up behind that price. After looking at the price sticker, she said the price marked there is wrong. Ok, you got the whole line of the same products line up at the wrong price? You are not even going to correct it. No apology.. She clearly seem to care less to inform someone to correct it or at least give the price they marked. This store front cashiers is completely different from the CVS down the street from them. It doesn't matter they carried the same items that is the reason why I always go to CVS to buy things. At least, the staff there would try to take step to correct them. Even at the busy hours I see more people at the CVS than at this store. I wonder why??? I know I should have walk a little bit further to CVS. The product I bought later have to be return and I was glad I saw John again. I am sure the cashiers there would have give me problem even with the receipt. I mentioned to John the items got the wrong price and at least he say he will fix it. There we go! at least someone at Walgreens is doing his job. read more

This is really an amazing store. The options for food and various products is great and hey, how can you hate a liquor store and sushi that is actually good surprisingly from a drug store? But the understaffing of the place makes the stars go down. At peak lunch break hour I am really unsure why they do not have more staff on hand to ring out customers. There are usually 4 empty registers and a very very long line. I get thay you cannot control if people are applying and if you are having trouble staffing but it is just very hard to get in an out on a lunch break like I usually need to. Also, I witnessed an employee rudely talk back to the manager when they asked them to take their break later and to help through the rush and she said to the manager, "Well I'm hungry now so I am going right now, deal with it." And the manager just allowed this to happen in front of various customers. Very poor. I will always come back because of the convenience to my workplace but needs a bit of work. read more

This review is for the sushi bar only. One of my co-workers was raving about it, so I figured I would give it a shot, but I don't know what I was thinking getting ordering from the sushi bar at a Walgreens! I could not finish my spicy tuna avocado rolls, had to toss them because the fish was too strong tasting for me. I normally have zero issue with eating strong tasting fish, so that should give you an idea of how very strong it was! Would not order sushi from them again, but would give their prepared foods another shot when I am looking to grab a quick lunch! read more
