Last week, the pharmacy drive-up window was closed, no one in the pharmacy would answer the phone, a medication refill I ordered was canceled without explanation (happened before). I had my doctor send my scripts to Amazon Pharmacy, and they were delivered to my door in TWO DAYS. This is not an ad for Amazon Pharmacy. I mention this because of the comparative efficiency. I have so many thoughts about this Walgreens. For context, I've been in and out of this place for at least 20 years. In recent years I've used it much more frequently due to a family member who has an increasing need for prescriptions. This place has always been a little messed up, but honestly, I always found it to be tolerable. I mostly kept coming back because I found the drive through to be convenient. However, even by this store's own messed up standards, something has gone catastrophically wrong here in recent weeks. The store itself is disheveled. Surfaces are worn, faded, torn and generally appear old. It's the kind of old that makes it difficult to know if things are actually dirty or just sort of worn out. The aisles are lined with boxes and stacked crates that never seem to move. Misaligned and water stained ceiling tiles, messy shelves, and customer-hostile locked merchandise abound in this place. It has the kind of unpleasant, neglected, liminal ambiance that as a child in the 80's, I always imagined was normal in the Soviet Union. None of that is a really new development as the store has been this way for a long time. What is new is the unbelievable dysfunction of the pharmacy itself. I've been getting refills here for my family member for months without major issues. Then, starting about two weeks ago things started changing. First, the drive through is closed. Okay. You go inside and there is a line for the pharmacy at least 15 people deep, ALL THE TIME. I've visited 8 times in the last week and I've never seen a line fewer than 10 people, in the morning, in the afternoon, in the evening. The line is ever present and barely moves. I have waited in this line and bailed after 30 minutes several times this week. Okay. When I do stick it out, I get to the counter and there is general confusion about which prescriptions are ready. Mind you, I already ordered the refills from Walgreens' website and was told that they were ready. No, the prescriptions aren't ready. I am told that if I return in "1 hour", or "2 hours", or "tonight", then I can pick them up. Nope. I've literally done this cycle with them FOUR times. I'm writing this review while sitting in the parking lot waiting for them to get the prescriptions ready for the fourth time. Mind you, I've already decided to have the prescriptions moved to another pharmacy. But, I have an immediate need, so I'm forced to deal with this pathetic pathetic store. In my experience all of the employees have been very nice. I have no animosity toward them. I don't know if the problem is management, or the corporation, or macroeconomic conditions. Whatever it is, this Walgreens is a blight in every sense. Please spare your own sanity and avoid this place. read more

This pharmacy should be sued for criminal neglect. A typical prescription order goes like this: 1. Doctor sends order 2. Pharmacy sends you a text saying they received the order and they are working on it 3. After 2-4 days, patient calls pharmacy and waits one hour and 42 minutes on hold. 4. Pharmacy employee answers and patient has to provide all the information again 6. Patient explains that the prescription is urgent because she needs it to recover from surgery and risks blindness without the prescription.. 7. Pharmacy employee says she'll have the prescription filled right away. 8. The pharmacy later sends a text saying they are out of stock and will work on getting it. 9. Patient tries to call a few more times but the wait is always well over an hour. 10. Pharmacy technician finally answers phone and says patient will be transferred to local pharmacy. 11. I've currently been on hold for more than 40 minutes... Recently, when I've gone in person to pick something up, there has been a line of 12-15 people All together, it can take you4-5 hours to get a prescription. When you complain, they tell you they are backed up and that they cannot find people to hire. I wonder, have they tried to pay people a living wage? The pharmacy personnel is adequate, but they are obviously under a lot of stress. I'm moving all my prescriptions to another pharmacy. read more

I've been in there three times to pick up a prescription because their drive-through window is closed and the line is at least 20 people long each time moving at a snails pace with one person working. I ordered a poster print on the machine in the store and got a confirmation text message and it said it'd be ready in 30 minutes. So I went back like 40-45 minutes later but they didn't have it ready yet. And I went back again to pick it up 2 hours later but they said they hadn't even started printing it out, and I had to wait another 10 minutes until one of the staff finally finished printing right in front of me. 1-Star Review: Racially profiled at this Walgreens -- completely unacceptable. I've lived in El Cerrito for 5 years. I'm a regular at this Walgreens. Most of the staff and even the usual female security guard know me by face. But during a recent visit, a male security guard stared me down the moment I walked in followed me with his eyes like I was a criminal. I hadn't done anything suspicious. I picked up snacks and was heading to the register. But I felt so uncomfortable being watched like that, I put the items down and asked to speak with a manager. Instead, the guard came up and provoked me, saying "it's my job" -- as if racial profiling is part of the uniform. I started recording the interaction because it was escalating. This isn't just about me. This is about how Black customers are treated. I wasn't stealing. I wasn't aggressive. I was shopping and got treated like a suspect just for existing. Walgreens needs to hold its contracted security accountable. An apology isn't enough we need real consequences for racial profiling. Ordered some items from Ikea to be picked up here. Went to the fed ex counter as instructed in my email. Employee Joseph Simons was helping me. His first response was we are not a fed ex we are a walgreens. I pointed to the sign above his head that said fed ex. Then he said there were no deliveries today so we don't have your packages. I told them it came in a few days ago. And then he said we don't hold them long and it's not longer here. All while not even checking a thing. I then said ok, but asked him for his name and then he decided to ask me for my tracking number which isn't provided with Ikea. He then finally asked me name and said the package is here. Had I listened to him the first time I wouldn't have gotten my package. What's so hard about checking and trying to help a customer instead of just telling them it's not there? based on the reviews Walgreens probably doesn't care. Wish I could give 0 stars for the fiasco the passport lady made us go through. First she started complaining saying my almost 2 year old is too tiny for pictures and it's hard. And then after some convincing, she said she would take it, to not only NOT pressing flash. Then she put the sd card and said she remembered that the camera isn't working. Pharmacy is terrible. Hours say they should be open, but they are closed "due to staffing issues." Call the pharmacy on the phone, and they regularly just lift the receiver and drop it again to hang up on you. If you do get through, they sound thoroughly irritated with you from the get go. They notified my provider about a refill request; my provider told me there was still a refill left. The staff person was very kind courteous and professional but my passport photos were horrific. The spot where they take photos is so dark I look like a raccoon. He showed me the photo (I'm a professional photographer), and I suggested to pop on the flash, he said no flash allowed. If this is the case then how about turning on the lights in the store? I come into this store very often, it's the closest to me and I also get my my medication filled monthly. This review is for the Management in the front of store. The pharmacy is fine I have no issues. The night manager a older lady she is very racist. I always come in there and pay for my items and she still follows me and alert staff to pay attention. Don't get me wrong there is a lot of theft and unfortunately they are mostly my skin complexion. But it makes me very angry that she watches me as if I'm a criminal because of my race. I'm a black woman so I'm automatically on the watch list I've noticed she does not follow the Caucasian or Asian customers.. I do not know if this review will make a difference but I had to write anyway .. Criminals come in every nationality, and if there was another Walgreens close to me I would stop coming in that store for good. I hate going in that store because your automatically put in a category.. I spend a good amount of money in there weekly. I'm writing a review for the front desk service at the pharmacy. The lady at the front desk was super unprofessional, I came in for my shots with an appointment the day before, and she just left us waiting for an hour before I had a chance to even talk to a pharmacist. What is the point of having us make an appointment online if we're just getting an hour wasted? Any other pharmacy would have spared 10 seconds to give us a heads-up on how much time this process would take, so disappoint about this. In the other hand, the pharmacist who performed the shots today was pretty knowledgeable and helpful, he gave a thorough explanation on all that I needed to know about the vaccines. read more

I've come to this location a few times now for curbside pickup orders, and without fail, there are always lazy people who are parked in the curbside spots just so they don't have to walk the 10 extra steps to the store when parking in any of the other multitude of available spots. And even if you do happen to arrive at a time when one of the spots are available, noone in this store ever bothers to bring your order out to your car despite notifying them on the app that you've arrived. While everyone right now is touting curbside pickup and contactless options, this Walgreens will just ignore your order and still make you go inside to pickup regardless. I've sat in my car well-beyond the 5min wait time on two different occasions, and noone ever came out. Even after I called in to let them know that I was there. Also, forget about social distancing, because the store has blocked off one of the entrances so everyone entering and exiting all have to pass through the same door. There are also always some shady homeless characters hanging out in front of this store for whatever reason. And one time, my gf even witnessed some lady shove a bunch of cosmetic products into her purse, dash out the door past the security guard who did nothing to stop her, and take off in a car waiting outside. While some of the employees inside are friendly enough, this location reeks of mismanagement. I would highly suggest going a bit further out to another location for your shopping needs. read more

I have been coming to this Walgreens Pharmacy for almost 10 years and while it's never been my favorite location, it's the only one with a drive thru pharmacy near my house. I have stage 4 metastatic breast cancer and I had called to check on the status of a drug that my oncologist had just called in. I asked when I'd be able to pick it up, asked a couple of questions, and within about 90 seconds this male pharmacist (and his arrogant, dismissive, and arguably misogynistic attitude) brought me to tears. Sir, I'm dying of cancer and am on roughly 27 different prescription medications. A little empathy goes a long way. Walgreens, is this one bad apple? Or is it your policy to make metastatic breast cancer patients cry. read more

I switched from CVS to Walgreens two years ago, and have been satisfied ever since. Each of the pharmacists and techs are very professional, courteous, and they greet me with a smile and remember my name before pulling up my chart. Anytime there has been a problem with a prescription or a medication is out of stock, the pharmacist has notified me immediately and worked quickly to rectify it. When you are dealing with a chronic illness, little things like that make a difference, and it helps to make a trip to the pharmacy into a more pleasant experience. My sole complaint is that they are a little bit slow. I have had numerous experiences where I've waited 3+ hours for one prescription, and had to wait from morning until evening for 3 prescriptions. I hope that this may change in the future, but I still do recommend this pharmacy. read more

Let me first make clear that this is not the entire staff's fault. There are some who clearly are trying their best...and then there are those who are not. Also, management seems to think they work best on a skeleton crew. Believe me, they DON'T. To management - Guys, you're right off the freeway and across the street from BART. You're at a major location. YOU. NEED. MORE. STAFF. It's constantly filthy, there's always garbage littered right outside, and the floors look like someone went mud skating around the whole store. The lines are constantly piling up all the way across the front of the store, and there's usually only one register open. The pharmacy? Forget about it, they usually only have one person working the register - for both the customers inside, AND the drive through, so whichever poor sap is on shift has to go back and forth between the line inside and the drivers outside. Also, there's often a language barrier with customers. I don't speak any Spanish myself, but then again, I don't work there. This is a heavily Latino area guys, you've got to have someone available who can translate. Also, just when things couldn't get any more embarrassing, there was an incident for me where I got off of work (I work all the way in San Francisco, this location is the closest to my house), and came in to pick up my prescriptions and get some medicines, and the security guard came up and yelled at me that I PERSONALLY wasn't allowed in that location, because I had been thrown out by the manager, earlier that day. I asked him if this was some sort of joke - I work in San Francisco, and had been in the city all day. I even showed him my work badge. He glared at me, and took a picture of me with his phone (I did not consent to that), and said "If you're lying..." No offense but I have a pretty unique hairstyle and was wearing a business suit. I find it very difficult to believe that anyone else in that area looks THAT similar to me, and would have been in there that very day. Bottom line? That store needs to get itself together, because this is just awful business. read more

This Walgreens is busy and sketchy at times. The lines get crazy and the employees are obviously stressed out. I would be too, there's a staffing issue here. There's often problems at the register with the debit/credit card machines. They offer beer, wine, and cigarettes at this location. If you're looking for smokes, be sure to ask them to check the back for cartons. They don't keep them in the front and some employees are quick to say they don't have any. read more

Don't come here to drop off your FedEx package unless you want to stand in line for 10 minutes and then be told that you can't. They are listed as a "print-free" FedEx drop off location but they don't have a printer to print your return label LOL. They can't do anything with a QR code so better print your label elsewhere. Coming from the city, I'm used to being a frequent shopper at Walgreens but not this one. I rarely come here, only if I've exhausted all other options. I came here recently for some over the counter medicine when I was sick. They were completely out of Theraflu and the Walgreens brand as well. The clerk who helped me wasn't even sure when they last had it in stock. I left without buying anything and had to go to another store where I found exactly what I needed.
