I've read about the highly unusual staff here (I am a longtime customer) but I didn't see any of them on a recent visit. The staff is friendly and helpful (though short-staffed). I sent over 100 photos to print (photos? I know!) and though no one was at the photo counter when I arrived, I rang the bell and someone came to help me. It took a little time to find my order (not unusual I find this happens) but they did locate it and I was pleased with the results.

Big boss was neither polite, helpful, or the least bit courteous. He asked if I had a receipt. I had the bag the shampoo came in but there was no receipt in the bag. I told him we picked this up from you this morning and it's the wrong product. Can you not manage your website? Do you not have it people? It's conveniently located at the very front of the Garrity Square shopping plaza, which has just enough parking for most times of the day. When you walk in, you'll see a good selection of snacks - chips, popcorn, candy, instant foods, cookies, nuts, jerky, meat sticks, and more - in the first aisles. They feature a variety of my favorite snack, Slim Kim Popcorn by local company Highland Pop. They have a sensibly modest selection of grocery items one might expect from a decent convenience store, at reasonable prices. In the back are coolers with a number of sodas, sparkling water, juice, milk, and other refreshing drinks. They even have a slushie machine running in the back. At the counter they also have a selection of phone accessories, mints, gum, and other odds & ends at the checkout counter. Where HP Food & Beverages shines brighter than the other convenience stores in the immediate area is the huge selection of alcoholic beverages. They have a number of popular and less-common canned and bottled beers in the fridges along the back wall, and in bigger cases in the aisles. I'm particularly happy that they have cold 16 fl. oz. tallboy 6-packs of Hamm's, which is one of my favorite American macro lagers. In the middle they have a nice selection of bottled and a few boxed wines. Behind the counter they have an impressive selection of liquor and liqueurs. I noticed several of my favorite whiskey varieties, and at very reasonable prices. I chatted with the guy behind the counter for a little bit, and he recommended several new single malt scotch and a blended whiskey that I might like. He definitely knew his products, suggesting that much of the selection is carefully curated. Between their convenient location, good selection, reasonable prices, and friendly service; HP Food & Beverages is a welcome addition to the neighborhood. Unlike BP down the street, the pumps actually work here! If you're about to run out of gas on your way to Highwood or on the way to high school, Shell's Pop 'n' Place is your stop. Conveniently located right on the outskirts of Downtown Highland Park, there is even a donation box for clothes and shoes. The gas is priced accordingly and there is no price gouging from what I can tell. Pop in if you get the chance!

Some officious and racist girl at the attendant stand tells me I can't use it because it's expired. She tells me she doesn't have the code buttons to put in (her first excuse) then tells me she can't let me thru bcoz it's expired and she can't do anything about (causing a long line behind me while she argues with me and then says I should pay the difference) her second excuse. Then she says she needs to call her supervisor who tells her to take all my expired receipts (all paid car washes mind you) and take my license down so as to not let me get future car washes. This is the racist comment that Just put me over so I tell her to F off. After all the weird weather, back and forth with snow and rain, and soooo much dirt, I celebrated the first warm day of the year and treated our car to a bath. It was time. It was a simple bath, with no bells and whistles, but now I can drive around with dignity in the school drop off line. If you didn't know, there's a car wash in the back of Shell. It's hidden, unless you see the sign at the pump. The great thing is if you plan to use the car wash, you have two options. Pay at the pump and receive $.10 off each gallon of gas, or if you don't want gas you can head to the attendant at the car wash and pay for one of the following three options: * Regular wash $5 * Plus wash adds sealer wax and under carriage rust inhibitor $6 * Premium will get you wheel brightener and polish wax for $7 I take the cheap seats for $5 and haven't tried the upgrade services, but there is no extra tip to pay, so maybe next time. You are on your own here, and they do have interior vacuums available right around the corner from the wash. There is a yearly car wash plan available. They gave us an optional punch pass. After a few washes the next one is free!

I have been using an awesome mechanic over in Highland Park named Mike and I goota tell you, he's as honest as the day is long....no b.s. I just went thru my annual dilemma of dumping $ into my car or getting a newer car and was nervous that "old yeller" might have to be brought out to pasture. He diagnosed my issues and was able to give me a prognosis of what I might have problems with down the line and their inherent cost and what needed attention right now. For less than $400 I'm going to have a car (which is paid off) running for at least another year thanks to Mike and his honest staff. I have had a few occassions which I thought I was going to have a big problem and literally had bills less than $100 more than once now. No less than 4 of my friends have used him in this same fashion of investing into one's car for preventive mntce or buying a newer car and he has done all of them right. He won't try and sell you something if you don't need it and he'll be real with you if your car isn't worth investing into (which was the case for one of my firends). An honest mechanic...go figure...I highly reccomend them!
