We discovered last year (yeah...took us a while) that they have an ice cream parlour inside of it, serving hand-scooped Thrifty-brand ice cream for a really, really value price. Well...due to a plumbing issue, it's been closed for months now...but we stopped by yesterday, and it's baaack. The counter is located right in front, left of the registers. Since there is usually nobody there and it's no different at Rite-Aid to find someone to help you, the right move is to stand-in line at the register and pay first. They will then call somebody over to help. It's $1.99 for one scoop in a cake or sugar cone, and they have a great selection of interesting flavors. I get the mocha almond fudge or rocky road, while other interesting flavors are coconut pinapple, medieval madness. It's scooped using a unique cylinder ice cream scoop, and they are very generous with the portion (one scoop is plenty...some staff will choose to give 2 smaller scoops to make the one 'scoop'). The ice cream is probably a bit below average in terms of taste and creaminess for a gourmet ice cream (reminded me of the ice cream you can serve yourself in a chinese buffet), but it's $1.99, folks. One can't beat the experience of walking back to your home on a hot, sunny SoCal afternoon, trying to lick the ice cream in the right places at the right times so it doesn't melt all over your hands. Ice cream trucks/carts don't seem to serve hand-dipped ice cream anymore, so this experience really reminds me of an earlier time. Now only if I could find a walkable Rite-Aid near one of our favorite beaches...

If you stop in here, be sure to continue walking through the apartment complex, down the stairs and you'll see signs directing you to Warped Tour. Sunshine is a life saver because if I didn't get the Gatorade I would've walked in with no electrolyte drink in my system and it was VERY hot that day. Cost was $3 and inside Warped Tour for a Ghost electrolyte drink I think it was $7 and much smaller.
