My purchase was not any of the clearance items, it was on the back wall with just a discount. I've been a customer for over 10 years. Not anymore. There are more stores in :Springfield. Don't spend your money here. Supposed to be family owned, but obviously not customer friendly. I was shocked at the unwillingness to help. I'll be contacting State of Missouri on retail law. Our last visit to Ulta really opened our eyes to how sneaky this place actually is…read more First, while standing in line waiting to purchase our items, we noticed an employee destroying products over a cardboard box lined with plastic. She was squirting out products like liquids/gels and scratching up makeup palettes. When I asked her about it, she claimed Ulta didn't even permit employees to take home excess, and that the products included expired and returned items. This really hurt my environment-loving heart. I understand not wanting others to become infected by products used by a previous buyer, but it'd be so easy to only dispose of those, and then either put the expired or excess products on steep clearance, sell to places like TJ Maxx or resellers, donate, or simply let employees put them to good use! All the waste and refusal to even let dumpster divers benefit from Ulta's excess was painful to witness. I wasn't aware of these practices and wish these were more transparent for the prospective consumer. Then, when checking out, only AFTER we made the purchase did the employee disclose we had had $23 worth of rewards that could've been used during our $100 purchase. When we asked then and there if we could return and then re-purchase to use the points, the employee refused. She said that they'd "get in trouble" if they notified customers before they made their purchase about how many points/rewards dollars they could redeem. So corrupt.

I've spent many years working retail and I fully understand chain stores. But, where I worked, if we as employees made a mistake with sale signage, they stood by the sign. Yesterday's sale the sign read 40% off most items. 50% off $100 or more. This particular rack that had its own sale sign was holiday Mac gift sets. I took several to the register that added up over $100 and was told they weren't on sale! What?! The sign is ON that fixture, it says 50% off... I was told they'll be on sale "soon" but not then. I said, "If the sign says 40% off most items" it shouldn't then only read "50% off $100 or more". My point is, I tried to politely explain my thoughts. I even showed them the exact item on sale online at a different company. I was treated extremely rudely, and trust me. To them all I really had to say was, "then move your completely misleading sign off the rack that has nothing on sale". This felt like a con, they get you to buy several items and not notice these items didn't get a discount. The reason I'm giving them 3 stars instead of 1, this is new management since my last visit.
