Absolutely avoid if you want an honest assessment or technician willing to work. I confirmed in advance that we wanted our sewer line cleaned to comply with our inspection during our home sale. The technician came out and said he was going to scope it first, not the service we asked for, and then told my husband repeatedly it didn't need to be cleaned. I later got an email with a recommendation for a cleaning at $1400 and a bill for $154 for scoping the line. I already have an appointment to have the line scoped after the cleaning tomorrow by the original company who scoped it. Never asked for a scope, asked for a cleaning. I've attached the communication that they could do the cleaning while in site. Really challenging when the technician said no cleaning necessary, no repairs necessary and then sends an estimate for recommended cleaning and repair. Moving on to the next company who can maybe do the work we hire for and not waste hours of our time and now days.

After the fourth visit and two failed inspections, I asked to speak with the owner. He said he'd show up on the final day and didn't. Not showing up after committing to do so speaks volumes. On multiple occasions, employees attempted to -- or did -- walk through my home beyond where work was being completed with their shoes on. This is a basic courtesy that should not have needed to be addressed. On the final day, an employee complained about the time spent waiting for the inspector to arrive. After five+ weeks of doing exactly that myself, I couldn't help but laugh internally. Most importantly, Summit advertises a "100% Right or 100% Free" guarantee on their website. These are not complicated words -- 100% means 100%, and free means free. There is no secondary meaning to either. When I raised this, I was told it essentially means they will keep trying until the job is done correctly -- which is admirable in theory, but falls well short of what "100% Free" implies when a customer has invested THOUSANDS of dollars. After reading the other reviews, I'm hoping the problem with my AC wasn't just a leak somewhere that could have been fixed for much less. I would strongly encourage potential customers to clarify what that guarantee truly means before signing a contract, and to get everything in writing.

I had previously used HomeService for several small jobs and had been satisfied. Then I asked them to correct low hot-water pressure at a bathtub. Their initial quote was over $13,000. When I hesitated and said I wanted other estimates, the plumber went back and forth with his manager by phone and, within minutes, the price dropped to $7,000. After the work began, I was told another problem had been discovered and was asked for an additional $2,000. I objected but agreed to another $1,000, bringing the price to $8,000. One plumber ultimately spent approximately 8-10 hours on the project. When he finished, he called and insisted that I immediately authorize the final credit-card payment. I told him I would be at the property within 45 minutes and wanted to inspect the work first. He continued pressing me for immediate payment to the point that the conversation became extremely unpleasant. When I arrived, he had left. We found several aspects of the work that we considered sloppy. To the company's credit, the manager sent another plumber the following day who addressed our concerns, and we were satisfied with the corrected work. Management subsequently gave me a $500 credit, making my final cost $7,500. I appreciated the adjustment, but it did not change my overall impression of the experience. What troubles me most is the pricing: more than $13,000 initially, approximately $7,000 minutes later, followed by another requested $2,000 after the job began. I ultimately paid $7,500 for a project on which one plumber spent roughly 8-10 hours. I should have stopped and obtained competing bids. I didn't because I needed the plumbing problem fixed and didn't know what the work should reasonably cost. That's precisely why I'm writing this review. My advice: don't assume the first--or even the substantially reduced--price you're quoted reflects what the job should cost. Get two or three independent estimates be aware that Homeservice may ask to be paid an unconscionable amount. If you don't like to negotiate and don't want to run the risk of being ripped off, stay clear of Homeservice Plumbers.
