As a beginner guitarist, i knew nothing about guitar. However now i know a plethora of chords and tabs. Coire is very patient and he taught me everything i know about guitars. He also helped me pick put a sick as guitar. He always explains everything in detail and is very accommodating will all types of schedules. I'm usually really busy and so i cant practice a lot but he has planned a plan for me--for people who are busy. I love playing guitar thanks to him. I was a beginner a few months ago, but thanks to Coire, I am now a master guitarist of multiple chords and tabs. Coire is patient, knowledgeable, and friendly- he was even willing to help me pick out my perfect guitar. His explanations are easy to understand and he is very accommodating with all types of schedules. I have been taking guitar lessons from Coire for ~ two months through virtual, and this is working well. I feel as if he is in the room. He is in tune with the individuals needs, and I needed that objectiveness for new ways of approaching the guitar, and sparking my motivation. We are working on bringing out the musician that is inside of me. Coire is very knowledgeable about theory, and has methods that are "right on" to help you achieve your goals. I've been seeing Coire for about 2-3 months now, and thought a review might be in order to help those looking for guitar lessons. First off I'm an intermediate player, who has successfully avoided theory since I started playing. Coming to Coire for some help to hit the next level, he's cunningly introduced theory into the curriculum, but made it fun to do so with creative exercises I can take home and work on. For the last month I've seen my understanding of playing the guitar improve, and he's also helped with the creative side using the tools I have at my disposal. I just started talking lessons with Coire and already I've learned SO much. As others have mentioned, he tries to get a sense of your musical interests and playing style in order to know you better and how you want to grow as a player. He knows his music theory and has a great ear, which helps as he explains not only how a song goes, but the fundamental behind it. Coire's a great guitar teacher. I liked the fact that he started me at the level I was at and didn't make me go backwards. He also tailored his teaching to exactly what I wanted to learn which was alternate tunings and picking. And he inspired me to play, which is totally awesome. I've been taking lessons with Coire since July 2014. When I started, I was an absolute beginner having just taken a few guitar classes in high school. Now getting my Master's, I've been around A LOT of teachers and it's always clear early on whether you are lucky enough to have a great teacher. Some teachers, although they have excellent credentials, don't have the ability to convey their knowledge to their students in positive and effective ways. In 6 months I've learned over two dozen chords, chord progression, strumming and playing in rhythm. I've learned my favorite songs from the Foo Fighters to Jenny Lewis. I definitely wouldn't be at this performance level without him. I've gone weeks without practicing and he would still be encouraging, adjusting his pedagogical approach so I can learn better or he would have suggestions for making my practice time more productive. Coire has such enthusiasm for music and teaching and it shows in his playing (SoundCloud) and instruction. It's really inspiring as it's been a huge motivation for me to keep practicing to become confident enough to create my own music one day I think whether you are a beginner or more experienced, Coire has a good intuition of what a student needs to help them progress. The pacing for me is perfect, as I never feel like I have too little or too much to practice each week. Lessons are always light hearted but focused and educational. I joined Yelp just to write this - I haven't taken many lessons yet, but I can already tell this is exactly the kind of teacher I've been looking for. I bought a guitar seven years ago thinking I could teach myself how to play (I played other instruments as a kid and figured, how hard could it be?). After several false starts, I never really made any progress until starting to take lessons this year. Coire is a terrific teacher - patient and encouraging, but also challenging you to do the things that seem difficult. He really listens to where you're at and what you want to accomplish and develops lessons around that. I already feel like I've made more progress in a few weeks than I had in seven (granted, largely not focused on guitar) years and am really excited to practice and learn more.
